It is no wonder that during much of history when villages were apt to come under siege at most any time frightening the general populous, the Blacksmith was really worried about a 'takeover' of the village or town....first, whoever owned or took possession of the town HAD to have weapons and, secondly, no one wanted to 'mess with' the person who worked with Earth, Fire, Water and Air!

When I first learned modern arc welding, my first thought upon completing a project was that there is something god-like about making something so strong that no man can take it apart. That feeling has never left me. And now, as a blacksmith, welding white hot metal with blows of a hammer, the realization that it is a god-like process is even stronger. And I had to smile along with you, when you said the first talisman people acquire is often Thor's Hammer. Yes, a tiny hammer was my first too..

There are a lot of similarities between these two cultures. Nobody knows much about the norse culture that much but hindu culture is still out there. It's just very little information is available about our culture most of it are destroyed or lost in time.
It was actually the Native American Indians that Hitler was infatuated with and seen a symbol on an animal skin that one tribe had. That is where it is supposed to have come from. If you have any knowledge of the Native American people you will find that symbol fairly easily in old history books.
Swastika was stolen from the Indians cause indo Europeans are essentially Indian gypsies moving westward. The oldest swastikas are on Indian rock carvings that predate the ice age.

There is at least 1record of the battle hummers used during the Viking age times known to me. The English Fyrd (farmers'militia) during the Battle of Hastings was massively equipt with stone hammers, (maces, wooden clubs, and even hey-forks too).
As it would have been due to vikings being farmers. Vikings used there tools as weapons as did many other cultures. I will research the battle you shared and thanks you... I would like to suggest another tool for the hammer shape - the Adze - for shaping wood - and a sudden thought of the hammer as a tool for building things like houses so that you can survive the great white north - as to bring order out of chaos.

They have never converted to Christianity, and one that I know, their family protects sacred lands that are entirely covered in burial mounds that are untouched. I have always called "The Helm of Awe" "The Yarrow Rune". Yarrow was carried by soldiers to treat wounds going back to the Mycenaeans at least, it was mentioned in the Iliad. It is also native to all of temperate Eurasia and was an herb for flavoring beer before hops became popular. It is also favored by bees who make mead possible. Additionally, it looks like yarrow which has not yet flowered as viewed from above.

I'm not sure what the research suggests, but it seems much more likely that the fylfot/swastika symbol does not represent the sun (at least not ours). As a peoples full of explorers and seafarers, it seems much more likely that the symbol represents the north star (and the other stars rotating around it); a constant necessity for navigation and safe passage that would likely be held in very high regard. After all, our people didn't end up in Scandinavia by following the southern cross! Though, I don't know if there are records where it is explicitly stated that the symbol represents the sun. It just always seemed strange to me. Thanks for the videos.

In this video you mentioned that Jormungandr (sorry if I type it wrong) is more of a protector of humanity rather than one of the Aesir's greatest enemie as it's mentioned in the Edda. I also know that the poem is a little bit inaccurate because wrote by a Christian so there are some misconceptions. With that being said, what's Ragnarok exactly?
A question; in witchcraft we are taught deosil (clockwise, sunwise) and widdershins (counter clockwise) are important in craft work. Does that belief apply to the Norse ways, too? Too, the sun symbols you showed looked to spiral counter clockwise is that the norm for this tradition?
In pre-Christian Scandinavian we don't know if that was important in the actual magical work. However, during late medieval and modern magic of Iceland that appears and it's quite specific, but that's because magic in Iceland is the product of the consolidation of Western and Eastern Magic of the Renaissance period. In terms of the basic rules and superstitions, very much based on Mediterranean Magic and that's exactly where the clockwise and counter clockwise craft work comes from. Nowadays, Neo-pagan left-hand paths of Norse paganism use the counter clockwise, such as Thursatrú, while paths such as Vanatrú prefer clockwise. But I doubt in pre-Christian Scandinavian magical traditions that was a thing, since it seems to have been much more important to southern European countries.
So nice it makes me want to be there. A thing not often known. Is the way a crystal was used to navigate in dense ocean fog. I have seen a crystal found in a viking grave directly used at sea in the thick fog to precisely maintain their course. Now, the image in the crystal and created by it, is an equal sided cross (of light of course). The appearance of the illuminated cross was the difference between a successful voyage and total ruin. This is why the Viking symbol for a safe voyage is covered by a cross. These rock illustrations shown in red can not be men, but perhaps are the gods or spirits that protect the expeditions as they have as a primary symbol the cross in a circle. Your navigation crystal in action. Why this figure is swinging an axe and has a wanger can be debated. I love the video.

It is indeed, thank the gods :p well.. there are a couple of books out there now, new stuff about the magic of the Magical Staves but so far I find them a little bit... far fetched and too much fantasy. I still rely on the old ones which aren't easily aquired, obviously, some are in secred and will never be opened to the public, so I can only imagine the amount of knowledge we can't have access to. I still like the works of Stephen E. Flowers though, still useful and he puts how a lot of Magical staves.
Flowers is a satanist and his understanding of staves is way the fuck off his power stave for your own soul is really a horse fast syave in iceland keeps you on your horse do to this i got rid of all his books

Maybe, it's quite possible, since the North Star (Polaris) was a reference point for navegation and to better find it in the sky during different seasons, the best way is to find Ursa Major and Ursa Minor, so people were constnatly searching for those and it might have helped in the creation of certain symbols. It certainly helped in the creation of myths.

Maybe it is rare for us, but in the olden days, especially during the last glacial or general colder periods of time since that would have been more common, is my guess.. I have never seen these halos, except of the sundog phenomenon. There are several formations possible, all very beautiful. The swastika as a symbol for navigation by means of the polar configuration is certainly one of the likely explanations. As you say, there are several explanations though. The ancient slavs connected it to Perun, the ancient indians to Agni. Most remain in the realm of Fire one way or another. :)

Indeed I have changed my mind upon further research. This video was made in 2018, but the research is older, and many things change in 4-5 years. This happens all the time, things being debunked and even we ending up debunking our own past conclusions, because new evidences are always surfacing. In the meantime I and other researchers no longer see a concrete connection between Thor and the Swastika. The Swastika in Northern Europe came to replace other solar symbols such as the spiral and the triskelion, among others, just the same way the Christian cross came to replace those symbols and the Swastika itself incorporated into Christian religious iconography. The hypothesis of the Swastika having been linked to Odin in Scandinavia is still strong though. The Swastika in Sami drums may have nothing to do with Thor after all, and was a later symbol introduced through the contact with Old Norse people or through Nordic Christians and remained a representation of the Sun/Solar symbol. In this video I have stated that it is possible that the Swastika was associated with Thor based also in the evidences of the Swastika in Sami-Finnish drums, as we find swastikas in such objects, I say that this symbol is found in Lapland (I no longer refer to this geographical area as "Lapland" as upon further contact with Sami people I've come to realise that "Lapland" and "laps" is highly derogatory, so I now refer to the area as Sapmi), so there could be a connection here in the cult of Horagalles, also known as Thora Galles, the Sami-Finnish “version” of the thunder god. However, upon further investigation, the Swastika in Sami drums doesn’t appear alongside any figure and it is in fact inserted in Christian religious symbology as well as depictions of Christian churches. The Swastika in a Sami drum can be found in the example of the XVIII century drum, from Porsanger, in Norway. Horagalles is found depicted in Sami drums, the earliest ever found is from the XVII century, but never with a Swastika. On the other hand, the Swastika is also found in Sami drums, but alongside depictions of Christian symbols and Christian Churches, which indicates that the Swastika was probably introduced to the Sami by Nordic Christians, probably between the XIII and XVIII centuries CE. The Swastika in Northern Europe became a strong Christian symbol after the XI century, and was found in many Christian Churches as well as in Rune Stones and Picture Stones of Christian Era and with Christian religious iconography, so it became a strong solar symbol associated with the resurrection of Christ. So in Sami Drums the Swastika is actually a sign of Christianization of the Sami people, and not an introduction in Heathen periods that might have made a connection between Thor and Horagalles. This happens all the time. Upon further research we end up finding new and better evidences that will eventually counter and contradict our own past research. That's how it works. As long as we keep things updated and let the public know of our new research and evidences, it's a good sign. There’s no point in keeping up with obsolete ideas, even if they made sense at the time, after finding new and better evidences. So 4-5 years after the research I did for this video (back in early 2017-2018), I've come to the conclusion (and other researchers as well) that the Swastika isn't after all connected to Thor, as I have expressed on my latest video on February 2022 you can see here: ua-cam.com/video/N22fVT9wjyY/v-deo.html

Arith Härger, I´ve got a question (or better a hypothese) regarding the Thor´s Hammer, Mjolnir. As far as I know most archeological samples where found in graves of women. Could it possible be that the hammer is actually an anchor symbolising that the man (husbands) of those women where away (meaning at sea) and this is more or less a symbol for already married women off-limits for other men? Just wondering.
Is the popular depection of Thor having a strap on his hammer old or new? The hammer on a rope is an interesting idea. I used to play with such things when I was young, tying a heavy steel bolt to a 1-1.5m string and flinging it easily and accurately up to 200-300 meters. A very good self defense weapon is also a heavy weight on a strap the length of your forearm, which can be handled very much like a nunchacu. The Chinese and Japanese have some weapons of the type "Hammer on a rope". I am sure a blacksmiths hammer on a rope could break down doors or break shields and skulls in the hands of a Viking God. (Coat the hammer face with gunpowder and you'd have the thunder too. LOL) BTW. Throwing stones were a common Viking weapon.
North Portugal was Celt in prehistoric ages. Later there was a migration by Greeks and Phoenicians that peacefully settled in the region. They originally spoke Lusitanian (interesting article here: herminiusmons.wordpress.com/2019/02/18/the-lusitanian-language/ ) or Gallaecian.
I’ve seen some of these symbols in Native American sites in central Virginia. It seems to me that the Norse may have had contact through trade or settled with some of the native tribes in the area.
I’ve seen a lot of spiraling symbols and trigram type things. I found an iron snake that was interlinked with 3 loops that don’t have a beginning or end where it’s eating its own tail.
They have possibly found a new megalithic structure in Ireland due to the recent heat wave. I'm not sure if you have spoken about it, but it would be cool if you would......❄🐺
I know that recently they found some traces of Late Bronze Age and Iron Age settlements do to the heat wave, not the actual structures but the negative printed on the ground where the structures were. Circular settlements, really cool, but not much as come out of that study yet.
I have a swastika tattoo, but the arms are hidden in the branches of an oak tree. That is how I get away with it in a society where people think that I would be endorsing things such as genocide or totalitarian government. I actually do mean it as a solar symbol among other things. I actually draw a association between it and Thor. So that is the most significant meaning of it for me. But it means a whole bunch of things to me personally.

There is at least 1record of the battle hummers used during the Viking age times known to me. The English Fyrd (farmers'militia) during the Battle of Hastings was massively equipt with stone hammers, (maces, wooden clubs, and even hey-forks too).
As it would have been due to vikings being farmers. Vikings used there tools as weapons as did many other cultures. I will research the battle you shared and thanks you... They have never converted to Christianity, and one that I know, their family protects sacred lands that are entirely covered in burial mounds that are untouched. Really interesting stories they tell that go way back. Love your channel

I have always called "The Helm of Awe" "The Yarrow Rune". Yarrow was carried by soldiers to treat wounds going back to the Mycenaeans at least, it was mentioned in the Iliad. It is also native to all of temperate Eurasia and was an herb for flavoring beer before hops became popular. It is also favored by bees who make mead possible. Additionally, it looks like yarrow which has not yet flowered as viewed from above.

I'm not sure what the research suggests, but it seems much more likely that the fylfot/swastika symbol does not represent the sun (at least not ours). As a peoples full of explorers and seafarers, it seems much more likely that the symbol represents the north star (and the other stars rotating around it); a constant necessity for navigation and safe passage that would likely be held in very high regard. After all, our people didn't end up in Scandinavia by following the southern cross! Though, I don't know if there are records where it is explicitly stated that the symbol represents the sun. It just always seemed strange to me. Thanks for the videos.

A question; in witchcraft we are taught deosil (clockwise, sunwise) and widdershins (counter clockwise) are important in craft work. Does that belief apply to the Norse ways, too? Too, the sun symbols you showed looked to spiral counter clockwise is that the norm for this tradition?
In pre-Christian Scandinavian we don't know if that was important in the actual magical work. However, during late medieval and modern magic of Iceland that appears and it's quite specific, but that's because magic in Iceland is the product of the consolidation of Western and Eastern Magic of the Renaissance period. In terms of the basic rules and superstitions, very much based on Mediterranean Magic and that's exactly where the clockwise and counter clockwise craft work comes from. Nowadays, Neo-pagan left-hand paths of Norse paganism use the counter clockwise, such as Thursatrú, while paths such as Vanatrú prefer clockwise. But I doubt in pre-Christian Scandinavian magical traditions that was a thing, since it seems to have been much more important to southern European countries.

So nice it makes me want to be there. A thing not often known. Is the way a crystal was used to navigate in dense ocean fog. I have seen a crystal found in a viking grave directly used at sea in the thick fog to precisely maintain their course. Now, the image in the crystal and created by it, is an equal sided cross (of light of course). The appearance of the illuminated cross was the difference between a successful voyage and total ruin. This is why the Viking symbol for a safe voyage is covered by a cross. These rock illustrations shown in red can not be men, but perhaps are the gods or spirits that protect the expeditions as they have as a primary symbol the cross in a circle. Your navigation crystal in action. Why this figure is swinging an axe and has a wanger can be debated. I love the video.

It is indeed, thank the gods :p well.. there are a couple of books out there now, new stuff about the magic of the Magical Staves but so far I find them a little bit... far fetched and too much fantasy. I still rely on the old ones which aren't easily aquired, obviously, some are in secred and will never be opened to the public, so I can only imagine the amount of knowledge we can't have access to. I still like the works of Stephen E. Flowers though, still useful and he puts how a lot of Magical staves.
Flowers is a satanist and his understanding of staves is way the fuck off his power stave for your own soul is really a horse fast syave in iceland keeps you on your horse do to this i got rid of all his books

Maybe, it's quite possible, since the North Star (Polaris) was a reference point for navegation and to better find it in the sky during different seasons, the best way is to find Ursa Major and Ursa Minor, so people were constnatly searching for those and it might have helped in the creation of certain symbols. It certainly helped in the creation of myths.

The swastika as a symbol for navigation by means of the polar configuration is certainly one of the likely explanations. As you say, there are several explanations though. The ancient slavs connected it to Perun, the ancient indians to Agni. Most remain in the realm of Fire one way or another. :)

Indeed I have changed my mind upon further research. This video was made in 2018, but the research is older, and many things change in 4-5 years. This happens all the time, things being debunked and even we ending up debunking our own past conclusions, because new evidences are always surfacing. In the meantime I and other researchers no longer see a concrete connection between Thor and the Swastika. The Swastika in Northern Europe came to replace other solar symbols such as the spiral and the triskelion, among others, just the same way the Christian cross came to replace those symbols and the Swastika itself incorporated into Christian religious iconography. The hypothesis of the Swastika having been linked to Odin in Scandinavia is still strong though. The Swastika in Sami drums may have nothing to do with Thor after all, and was a later symbol introduced through the contact with Old Norse people or through Nordic Christians and remained a representation of the Sun/Solar symbol. In this video I have stated that it is possible that the Swastika was associated with Thor based also in the evidences of the Swastika in Sami-Finnish drums, as we find swastikas in such objects, I say that this symbol is found in Lapland (I no longer refer to this geographical area as "Lapland" as upon further contact with Sami people I've come to realise that "Lapland" and "laps" is highly derogatory, so I now refer to the area as Sapmi), so there could be a connection here in the cult of Horagalles, also known as Thora Galles, the Sami-Finnish “version” of the thunder god. However, upon further investigation, the Swastika in Sami drums doesn’t appear alongside any figure and it is in fact inserted in Christian religious symbology as well as depictions of Christian churches. The Swastika in a Sami drum can be found in the example of the XVIII century drum, from Porsanger, in Norway. Horagalles is found depicted in Sami drums, the earliest ever found is from the XVII century, but never with a Swastika. On the other hand, the Swastika is also found in Sami drums, but alongside depictions of Christian symbols and Christian Churches, which indicates that the Swastika was probably introduced to the Sami by Nordic Christians, probably between the XIII and XVIII centuries CE. The Swastika in Northern Europe became a strong Christian symbol after the XI century, and was found in many Christian Churches as well as in Rune Stones and Picture Stones of Christian Era and with Christian religious iconography, so it became a strong solar symbol associated with the resurrection of Christ. So in Sami Drums the Swastika is actually a sign of Christianization of the Sami people, and not an introduction in Heathen periods that might have made a connection between Thor and Horagalles. This happens all the time. Upon further research we end up finding new and better evidences that will eventually counter and contradict our own past research. That's how it works. As long as we keep things updated and let the public know of our new research and evidences, it's a good sign. There’s no point in keeping up with obsolete ideas, even if they made sense at the time, after finding new and better evidences. So 4-5 years after the research I did for this video (back in early 2017-2018), I've come to the conclusion (and other researchers as well) that the Swastika isn't after all connected to Thor, as I have expressed on my latest video on February 2022 you can see here: ua-cam.com/video/N22fVT9wjyY/v-deo.html

Arith Härger, I´ve got a question (or better a hypothese) regarding the Thor´s Hammer, Mjolnir. As far as I know most archeological samples where found in graves of women. Could it possible be that the hammer is actually an anchor symbolising that the man (husbands) of those women where away (meaning at sea) and this is more or less a symbol for already married women off-limits for other men? Just wondering.
Do you know if there was any religious symbols for the moon ? Since they were some for the sun.

The hammer on a rope is an interesting idea. I used to play with such things when I was young, tying a heavy steel bolt to a 1-1.5m string and flinging it easily and accurately up to 200-300 meters. A very good self defense weapon is also a heavy weight on a strap the length of your forearm, which can be handled very much like a nunchacu. The Chinese and Japanese have some weapons of the type "Hammer on a rope". I am sure a blacksmiths hammer on a rope could break down doors or break shields and skulls in the hands of a Viking God.
(Coat the hammer face with gunpowder and you'd have the thunder too. LOL)
BTW. Throwing stones were a common Viking weapon.

I’ve seen some of these symbols in Native American sites in central Virginia. It seems to me that the Norse may have had contact through trade or settled with some of the native tribes in the area.
I’ve seen a lot of spiraling symbols and trigram type things. I found an iron snake that was interlinked with 3 loops that don’t have a beginning or end where it’s eating its own tail.
I’ve seen stone Thor’s hammer symbols and axe heads in these same areas
They have possibly found a new megalithic structure in Ireland due to the recent heat wave. I'm not sure if you have spoken about it, but it would be cool if you would......❄🐺
I know that recently they found some traces of Late Bronze Age and Iron Age settlements do to the heat wave, not the actual structures but the negative printed on the ground where the structures were. Circular settlements, really cool, but not much as come out of that study yet.

I have a swastika tattoo, but the arms are hidden in the branches of an oak tree. That is how I get away with it in a society where people think that I would be endorsing things such as genocide or totalitarian government. I actually do mean it as a solar symbol among other things. I actually draw a association between it and Thor. So that is the most significant meaning of it for me. But it means a whole bunch of things to me personally.
