Sorry for the wait! (Been playing Fallout New Vegas lately after the show came out) Hope you all enjoy, and definitely go try STABmons if you haven't it's super fun :)
While on principle I agree that move bans should be rare and that ability to use unique moves is part of what makes stabmons unique, I am glad that last respects was banned. Nobody needs to deal with that move, it's just dumb. If it's too good for ubers it's def too good for any OM save for maybe BH.
I entirely agree with this, Rage Fist is unique as it encourages a whole other style of play for many Pokemon, you'd never play Decidueye in mind as a defensive offensive sweeper, but due to Rage Fist, it's a very potent option. Last Respects doesn't make anything more interesting, it's simply just the ability to have a base 250 powered STAB move that encourages your team dying lol
@@strawzulusansundertalehorr7624 Grafaiai is the only normal/poison type that I know of and steel/normal is an unused combo. I don't know what you are accomplishing here
I used to use a similar strategy in generation 7 monotype STABmons, but with Alolan Muk running Power Trip instead of Rage Fist, since the latter didn't exist yet. Some of the most fun I had playing OMs was using my all dark squad to beat on people using the flying sample team trying to abuse Tail Glow Yanmega for free wins XD
It is, especially given the interesting landscapes many of the tiers have for what's good, like Sylveon being one of the most defining pokemon for generations in STABmons or The Losers Metagame where you literally just try and lose the fastest (Explosion and Self Destruct are banned) and avoid your enemy losing by healing them up, it's surprising the lack of coverage these Metagames get, especially during droughts for competitive pokemon where new things aren't coming for a long time
As someone who's played BH since Water Bubble got banned in that tier, I gotta ask why was Water Bubble ever allowed in Stabmons? If a user has any good options it is one of the dumbest abilities ever released
So it was rather quickly banned, reason it wasn't banned off spawn was mostly cause people thought that with Ogerpon Wellspring and Volcanion around, water absorb would make it harder to abuse the water moves. Turns out having 2 pokemon in a whole Metagame counter 1, isn't really that healthy lol, as such it was banned shortly after it's return. Also didn't help that as mentioned in the video, Ogerpon Wellspring really did not appreciate being first impressioned into oblivion lol
@@EvelynIsBased really only 1 counter in volc tbh since no move of Waterpon's can KO Araquanid with HP investment and needless to say stab +3 bug buzz KOs
How the fuck did the ghost/poison pokemon with the best poison move and best ghost move get banned from stabmons Edit: why the fuck is rage fist allowed
Every ghost pokemon gets those moves, same as how so many Pokemon get so many powerful things, like Ogerpon Wellspring with Jet Punch, or Volcanion with Water Shuriken. You have to remember with a Metagame like this that the power level is much higher than OU. Hence why I also talked about how very similar pokemon to Pecharunt, like Skeledirge, do not thrive as it does, even alongside Tera and Curse support to mimic Coil, making it an interesting case of how a pretty bad Pokemon marks out an overwhelming niche in this Metagame Also to answer your question Rage Fist is allowed as there are not many supporters for it that work well. Dragapult being banned limits one of the few physical ghost attackers. And not many Pokemon can tank the powerful moves inside of STABmons, as I described in the video. Also as I described in the video as why it's not banned but Last Respects is.
I hope someone at Game Freak is looking at STABmons when putting together gen x learnsets. There are lots of cool combos that just can't exist on any current Pokemon. A Pokemon doesn't need a new ability or type combination to feel unique if it pairs preexisting options in a way that's never existed before. Also, the day Dusknoir gets a better recovery option than Pain Split, we're all doomed.
Unless Dusclops also gets said Recovery move, then Dusknoir will likely be overshadowed by it's own pre-evo (again). Though maybe an argument could be made if they let Dusknoir regain Duskull's Levitate instead of retaining Dusclops' Pressure.
I don't play STABmons, so I'll keep my thoughts vaguer. If there are other viable Pokémon that can viably run Rage fist without being broken, then I have no issue with banning Pecharunt. However, if Pecharunt was the only Pokémon that used the move to any reasonable level of viability, then I think it would have been better to ban Rage Fist as it overall allows for more options when playing the format.
Why is Rage fist allowed in stabmons at all? If it's not as bad as Triaga being allowed for god knows how long in AAA, but still, it's one busted aah move
There just isn't many abusers for it, I mean there really isn't that many physical ghost types in general, and most of them abused another thing too and got banned for that. There's especially a lack of tanky and strong physical ghost types, to give an example of just how limited there is for options, Decidueye is the current "best" Rage Fist user, but it still isn't that good lol
I mean, just watch around minute 6 of the video, he explains it pretty well. OMs like this lose the fun if you ban the reasons people would even come to play them
Glacial Lance isn't banned, not a lot of too powerful abusers for it that specifically would want it over some other potential options. Astral Barrage isn't banned either, powerful on Gholdengo and has been debated but is yet to be banned now. Mostly cause there isn't a whole lot of Ghost attackers other than Ghold to abuse it
@@EvelynIsBasedBut now that opens up the question of what metagame would ever ban final gambit Maybe the metagame where you're meant to porpusefully lose to win?
There is the Losers Metagame where you need to lose before you opponent does, I'm pretty sure most recoil moves (including final gambit) are banned, so you'd be right :)
@@EvelynIsBased I understand kamikaze moves being banned but recoil being banned sounds odd, it seems like it'd be a cool risk vs reward sorta deal where your move deals a lot of damage but it also damages you quite a bit
@@InsertFunnyThingHere recoil moves aren’t banned, it’s just all self KOs and magic room (coz it completely shuts down barb/black sludge/item based strats without interesting counterplay)
...correct me if I'm wrong, but couldn't they just ban the move on Pecharunt specifically? That way the vast majority still get access to the move, and the problem is dealt with without removing Pecharunt.
Besides, I'm pretty sure with the way Showdown works, anything more complicated than a blanket ban would need to be listed as a Clause - like Gen 4's "one setup baton passer" clause, or the Mega Rayquaza clause
The current best abuser is Decidueye, which is typically the best due to a good defensive stat spread, access to Strength Sap and Cotton Guard, and obviously Rage Fist, even with this though, Decidueye is still not very good at all lol
