STABmons is such an interesting format, because AAA is never really going to happen but move pool changes happen all the time and there are some major problems with the standard distributions as it is. Lots of stuff just straight up don’t get good STAB moves and lots of interesting signature moves are stuck on bad mons or Pokémon that don’t really want to use them, so it asks some fascinating questions as a format.
Honestly I feel like Pory-Z becoming broken when given anything is well-known now. I had to look up why Latios is banned given I wouldn't have said its moveset was bad before, but the answer is the new move options are too good (Dragon Energy & Clanging Scales for stronger dragon attacks, Lumina Crash/Esper Wing & Psycho Boost for more versatile & powerful psychic attacks, and Take Heart is an improved calm mind)
stabmons just makes me sad aerodactyl doesn’t get brave bird or head smash, but has the ability rock head. In fact the only recoil moves it learns regularly is double edge and take down.
I remember the very beginnings of STABmons being introduced. Porygon-Z has always been the single most broken mon in the format, even with constant bans to certain moves. Early STABmons Porygon-Z at its full potential with Shell Smash, Boomburst, Judgement with Fist Plate, and Shadow Ball is one of the most horrifying Pokemon in existence.
Zoroark-H is pretty fun to run off of a Lucario. Both of them can run extremely similar Nasty Plot movesets, as well as knowing a ton of the same moves, and you could even mix physical and special moves on said Lucario to (at the cost of its offenses) make your opponent never know what the hell you're planning to unleash next. This is why my casual friend doesn't like battling me.

If possible, could we get pictures of move descriptions in future videos? Me who is new to gen 9 and 8 stuff is confused. Plus idk how helpful it is to see that every move is or isn't effected by kings rock and mirror move under its PP stats.
I'm so used to seeing Ogerpon-Wellspring,png and TingLu,png because Showdown hasn't updated 95% of the gen 9 roster, and seeing those mons actually moving caught me seriously off-guard 😭
Is there a reason Zoroark H used shadow ball over Moongeist beam!? Is it literally just PP or am I missing something, I would expect you don’t even click the ghost move that often so just seemed odd
I like to think that zoroark became a dark type because zoroark hisui was always just hit with dark type moves so at some point it decided to illusion itself into one
I'd like to call into question when you said that Phantom Force can't miss at around the three minute mark. I could be wrong but I thought Phantom Force could miss, but it broke through Protecting moves instead?
I don't play stabmons but another thing to note is how h-zoroark normally doesn't have access to encore, unlike regular zoroark. So imagine the enemy using normal/fighting/ghost move, use encore, force them to leave while you set up
Have you considered including the text of a move when you put the card on screen? As it stands, if you don't already know what status moves like Victory Dance do, the graphic you use only really shows pp/accuracy, not an effect. Same thing with secondary effects of regular moves, such that moves like Water Shuriken aren't immediately obvious that they're a multi-hit, etc.
Just based on the name I thought that Mons in this mode could ONLY use stab moves, that would be quite interesting but could make ground, normal, ghost, fighting, poison and dragon types really bad. I dont remember if you said this but is it truly EVERY move of that type or every normal move? Like can all ground types use thousand arrows?
It is every move of that type that is in the game, an important distinction as Thousand Arrows is a part of Zygarde, and as such is unobtainable in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet since Zygarde isn't in it
Komala is honestly the only one i didn't understand the second i saw it. Porygon-Z is one of the easiest to understand. Like, it's always going to be good. It has some versatility, but its lack of reliable STAB offense keeps it from being GREAT. Letting it get Boomburst immediately makes it busted
Every Pokemon with a Form change in game keeps STABs between forms, this rarely effects most Pokemon as they prefer to keep their STABs, but with Rotom it helps it in being very strong with Torch Song, Water Shuriken, Roost (Rotom Fly), and Freeze Dry (Rotom Refrigerator), hope this explained, and thank you for watching :)
@@EvelynIsBased no way, that's crazy! This video is literally my first ever experience with this tier so I had no idea, thanks for explaining :) explains why Arceus is banned lmao

Otherwise, does Ogerpon just know all the moves of every STAB of all its forms?
Yes Ogerpon does, it was tested in Gen 8 to have Rotom not keep STABs between forms, it mostly just made it suck, as such, council members have let Rotom keep it's STABs as otherwise it's just an uninteresting unimpactful Pokemon.
The idea behind type changers getting other types is that you "teach" them out of battle. An in game example where type out of battle and type in battle is what determines a Pokemon being able to learn a move are Mega Sceptile and Ampharos not getting access to Draco Meteor as they are not dragon types out of battle, which the tutor requires. For STABMons that means Silvally gets every move in the game, Rotom gets 7 types for a movepool, etc. For mons that change type only in battle however they don't get the access to the extra type, e.g. Meloetta wouldn't get access to all fighting moves. Another thing to consider is that pre evolution types contribute to the evolution's movepool for similar logic, thus Tyranitar gets access to Shore Up, a Ground move, thanks to Larvitar being Rock/Ground. The logic is entirely consistent.
Technically but A.) You can't reliably get these Pokemon in, as force swapping will just get them roared out and B.) This removes entire archetypes from being played such as stall that lack fast Breakers.

As I kind of show in the beginning, it gets access to Dragon Dance, which alongside Shore up can allow it to boost heal up, boost it's damage and speed, block Sucker Punch with Shore up, and punish attackers with Rough Skin. Oh and the most common defensive check, Landorus Therian, can't even block it via burns with Beak Blast, as thanks to it's Dragon typing, it also gains access to Dragon Darts, which also luckily fixes Garchomps major issue of no good Dragon STAB.
