    A Quick Message From Blizzard:
We want to start by saying we hear you.
We are awesome at Blizzard, we're award winners. Everything we do is what award winners do, because we have won awards.
Since the moment we stepped into the office on Monday, we have been discussing mobile gaming non-stop. Mobile gaming is amazing.
We love mobile games, we play them all the time. Whether driving, taking a dump, walking along roadways on the way home from school, cooking, babysitting, hanging out with relatives over the holidays, mobile games are perfect for escaping our real world situations. Why do any of those things without simultaneously slaying demons?? Please laugh. hahaha, ok thanks.
So please, all we want is to bring the full Diablo experience to mobile. Those who actually tried the game filled out a questionnaire, and they all answered the only question with the only answer: "YES ITS AWESOME"
So judging by these numbers, we can guarantee it will be well received. It's going to make us a lot of money which is proof your opinions suck.
Please go away now. We hate you.
    Sincerely,
    Blizzard Entertainment

Referencing the original post that meme was made out of: They have updated D3 with major content two times in six years. They haven't even done so much as a balance patch to shake up the meta in over a full year. Then they post "we hear you" and it's supposed to mean something? Hollow words from an obvious PR post. Sorry if that comes off negative, but it's the truth.

      Nice parody!
They are either lying through their teeth, or they are desperately divided internally. The problem with their statement is that when you start too many projects, the quality of said projects suffers greatly or goes into “development hell” with an extremely long wait time. Look at what’s happening with Square Enix and the FF7 remake - they outsourced their projects and it went into development hell. Will they ever learn?

You have to understand, this took years and years to fester and slowly grow. Just like in ALL the rest of gaming, it was mostly a slow and gradual process. I haven't played WoW for over 6 years, but I still remember how torn i was about the Celestial Steed back in the days. I must've gone back and forth on wether or not to buy it a dozen times, especially because it was priced so ridiculously high at 25$. But i was HUGELY into the game back then, and since it was the only thing extra they offered at that point i caved and got it in the end.
That's how it started for most people i suppose. And slowly, but surely, we got to where we are now.

ThesuperRetroBros, 2 things that can help to answer to your question:
    1) Moving the studios from San Francisco to Los Angeles is not an innocent decision. A city influence the way people live, the way to look at things and your vision of ascetics. It impacted the shift from authenticity to something more artificial and marketing-based. SInce 2005, Blizzard has lost their most talented employees. When you don't have the right human resources and environment, you can't hire the right talents with a unique and background and culture. They only hire marketing people or 3d/IT experts.
    2) Since 2000, globalism and multiculturalism increased puritanism and political correctness, thus complying to family-friendly content. Look what became the d2 christian cross on the paladin shield in d3. Where is the blood bath D2 harem in d3? Blood and nudity being removed from Diablo:Immortal for the chinese market.
    3) The drop in quality and authenticity is not confined the United states or video games. Globalism spreads and killed the sense of community, and increased the selfishness and greed. This increased the seek for short-time opportunities, and short term business plans(Let me be clear about this, I appreciate many aspects of globalism, I'm only trying to have a objective view on it)
You can not separate the collapse in artstyle and the greed of Blizzard. Both problems are interlocking. Thank you very much for your videos, pleasant to hear and well structured.

@@newchaoticorder5372 I would like to stress that I'm atheist myself. To me the Diablo franchise is based on something compatible with historical facts. It's a fact that back in the days, religion played a central role in everyday's life. The most basics fears and emotions were felt through the spectrum of religion. What maes Diablo 1 and 2 beautiful is that it's open's up the players to gothic architecture, arabic culture, maya/aztec culture, Medieval weaponry and arts, and to the relation deep religion and christianism in the western civilisation. I find it beautiful but again, I am atheist. The problem with D3 is that artistic quality is just very low. It's not a religion/atheist problem.

I'll leave an actual comment too.. haha, blizzard was absorbed by Activision, being a large public traded company, they will always chase growth and profit. The people making big decisions don't play video games or care what we think, they just use data to drive change. The revenue generated from mobile is more than pc and console combined, that is all they care about. It is sad, but we will have smaller studios swoop in to provide what blizzard will inevitably leave behind, like path of exile for example. Blizzard now is only blizzard in name, they do not make the same products as they did.

I'm have stopped getting surprised, angry or disappointed with AAA/big budget publisher and feel mostly indifference these days. There are some expetions to the pattern of AAA games but I have discovered that I return more often to my older PC games and play more on my PS2 and Xbox 360 again if I want to enjoy big budget titles. I enjoy many of those games more since I feel like they are complete experiences from the start and doesen't require 10 DLCs or microtransactions too feel whole and offer more depth, variation and detail. I can simply play and enjoy the game from start to finnish, having a good time and not spend time feeling cheated of my money because I bought a clearly unfinished product of the same game I have bought 3 years in a row with a slightly different coat of paint. If I want new games which offers actual content and new experiences, Indie or smaller than AAA but still quite big developers and publisher like CD Project red is the way to go.

      @TheSuperRetroBros  5 років тому +3

It's a shame we have no trust in AAA companies as they should be the pinnacles of greatness. The most time and resources available, yet they choose to water down a lot of their games in order to appeal to a casual audience and fill games with DLC. I would think that casuals are going to play whatever game is popular regardless of the difficulty curves and learning process within the game... maybe I'm wrong?

    • @gentlesirpancakebottoms6692
      @gentlesirpancakebottoms6692 5 років тому +1

TheSuperRetroBros I think so too. A good product can appeal to core fan bases and people wanting more as well as casuals while the tripe the so called "pinnacle of greatness" so often puts out today is more about the hype and fast sales than the actual product and it's longlevity. casuals will pick it up and play it for a while then move over to something else and dont look back or return for more. While games like Morrowind, Oblivion, the original Thief games, Half-Life 2, Bioshock, Kotor 2 etc are still played, revered and remembered today And are excellent examples that games made for entertainment can be art on the same level as movies or books. Farcry 5, AC odessey, and whatever Bioware is doing these days will probably be forgotten within a year and nobody cares. Casuals aren't loyal, doesen't care about the brand or the people working on it and its disrespectful and sickening when publishers are so full of themselves that they market towards those people but expect the long time fans wanting a better product to just pay, accept and fall in line. It didn't work for the shitty Thief reboot, Star Wars Battlefront and it looks like it wont work for Diablo.

It was just being something very simple, a good game:)

I can only speak for myself, but Blizzards transparent mobile cash grab would not have been so bad were it no so utterly tone-death. I mean we can't blame them for chasing a market that has such low overheads but such high returns. But the implications of how they went about doing it demonstrates a company that at best is no longer in touch with it's core audience and at worst is treating them with utter contempt. This was the very definition of a bait and switch. Take a huge fan base made primarily of PC (and console) gamers, along with one of their most iconic franchises, and then launch it to them exclusively on Mobile, as if the very fact that switching to a platform that targets a completely different demographic would somehow go unnoticed, and even be applauded, simply blows my mind.

"How do you feel about the full throttle shift to mobile?"
It basically confirms my suspicions that the Blizzard I knew and loved is dead. The devs have all changed, the executives rule, and the company ethos has shifted. As an entity, Blizzard does not consider the players or games their top priority. I still remember back in the day when Blizzard would delay the release of games by years, or cancel games altogether because they weren't up to snuff (RIP SC:Ghost and Lord of Clans). I remember when it was a common joke among my friends that Blizzard games had no hard release date, just "When it's ready." They had a commitment to quality over profit that was really admirable, and earned them the love of millions.
But nowadays, even if I enjoy some of their game features and more modern releases, the company that I respected no longer exists. This mobile shift basically confirms suspicions I've fostered for years. The Blizzard I admired is dead. I agree with your points regarding microtransactions. But I personally like the reduced need to interact with people. Squabbling over loot for example was always something I hated. Also the need for scheduled raid times is also something I can't commit to. If anything, I'd like it if they made it even easier to help me find like-minded individuals with the closer goals and skills as myself. I've been putting off mythic Island expeditions this week for a few days now because I don't feel like talking. It would be great if they added systems for party coordination other than using voice.

Great job breaking down the problems and helping the company understand the issues. I think Blizzard didn't realize the corporate backlash our entire generation feels when profits overrule quality and customer input. When a customer tolerates the changes, but gets pushed over the edge, there will be major backlash because we already felt disenfranchised for a long time. The only reason Diablo 3 survived was because they were forced to change the game based on customer input or the entire franchise would have died away. The auction house was a complete failure.
Blizzard has been allowed to tread a fine line of customer frustration because of the care they put into their customer base. The mobile game felt like a slap in the face when the customer base already feels that the company evolution has damaged their games and reputation. We are passionate about our PC games. We are passionate about challenging and immersive experiences. We don't want the games to be easy or to be pandered to or to be micro transactions. We are people, not bank accounts to be drained.

    5 things that ruined wow:
    1. Flying in azeroth.
-No real pvp or random encounters in the world anymore.
    2. You can solo pretty much everything today.
-Before quests and zones were so hard that the game forced you to socialize and find friends. Thats how I've learned english as a kid, because the game forced me to learn it so I could play the content with other people. There was no way you could go to Western or Eastern Plaguelands and just solo throughout the zone.
This was the beginning of many new friendships and even marriages that still last to this day.
    3. Microtransactions.
-Not much to say about this, everything is already said.
    4. Lazy writing.
-With every expansion the writing seems more and more poor with many beloved characters being ruined or thrown in trash for nothing, such as infamous green jesus situatuion or killing of Vol'jin for example, a character that was being developed throughout the exapnsions just to be killed in cinematic by a random felguard.
Pointless moves by Blizzard just to bring some drama to the moment, giving it no real meaning in the long run.
Cheezy lines and dialogues making it really cringey to watch sometimes.
    5. Toxic community.
-Expected when you push your game to become more mainstream. Before the game mainly focused on its fans and now it focuses heavily on new players, killing all the magic the game had along the way and what it was really all about back then.
I've also heard that the atmosphere at workplace in Blizzard is just as toxic as it is its community these days.
All in all the Blizzard has lost its touch with the fans, and doesn't give a crap what the fans want. Another great company fallen because of the corporations, greed, money and more money. Such a shame Blizzard, such a fking shame..

There is something to be said about getting a group of friends (that you know through gaming together), heading to a dungeon for a raid, accomplishing a feat or being defeated. Everything was much more special back then, you worked for things. Loot was handed out based on what could serve the group the best for the next raid, not "I can change my spec in a second to become a healer from a melee dps'r, give me the loot!"
I don't know what state of things are now because I haven't played since Cat, but I saw what was coming. I can imagine it's much worse than Cat. Really too bad as it's probably the only recent game outside of NES/SNES/PS one FFVII, and Amiga games I loved to play.

FINALLY, a youtuber calls out Blizzard on server and faction transfers where not even Jim Sterling would. It is the worst non-mobile monetization scheme in the gaming industry today. Worse than pay to win, loot boxes, pre-order bonuses, subscriptions, or any other kind of micro transaction. On top of buying expansions and paying a sub, you need to pay a third time to play with other people in an mmo. Instead of fixing dead servers and the snowballing exodus of Alliance players going Horde, they've decided to profit off of it under the guise of "maintaining server communities."

I don’t see anything wrong with trying to enter the mobile gaming industry, but they did it on the worst way possible. If diablo 4 was the main part of the diablo segment at blizzcon, no one would have reacted negatively to a mobile game that expands the lore/world of diablo. However, they introduced it as a full fledged game and then tried to shove the “entitled” tag onto us for not wanting to play on our phones. Look at what gears of war and fallout did for mobile games and announcements.. There’s obviously a right way to do it and blizzard just found the wrong way.

  • @mimiblabla
    @mimiblabla 5 років тому

Blizzard learned they could get good money from little effort with World of Warcraft. Every 5 months you would pay the full price of a brand new game and all you got was one or another form of grind in WoW, instead. They started focusing on making games/content that kept the players busy, rather than entertained. It is far easier to create activities that keep the players busy than to create interesting, meaningful content. Just make people farm for an item with low drop rates, get reputations through repetitive content and increase the items power constantly so the players always have to work in order to keep up. The items power offered the illusion of becoming stronger than the other players, but when everyone is getting stronger, no one is.. players were actually working hard to keep up with the flow. When item level became something visible it got even worse.. people would have troubles finding groups for various activities if their item level was not on par with the flow.. and they needed those groups because even the story was meant to be finished in a group environment. MMOs are designed to keep players busy in maybe the worst way possible. Consider how long it takes to get anything (not everything.. just one of the items you want) in an MMO and how long it takes to get something similar in a good non-MMO. Even in games like Dark Souls, which usually require a decent amount of effort, you get the items you want so much faster. It is ok to have stuff to do in an MMO, and understandable, it is hard to fill all that with new, meaningful stories, but even without that, there are at least 2 other opposite approaches: LEGO vs MMO. An MMO gives you chores to keep you busy.. LEGO gives you tools or building blocks to empower your imagination. One reason I liked vanilla (although it had quite a few nasty sides as well) was that at some point you reached a ceiling in your progression (if you weren't raising alts). After reaching that ceiling, people were starting to have fun in game without feeling that they wasted precious time that could've been invested in grinding for a chance of better gear. Remember the amount of videos created in WoW back then. I for once participated in some cute RP adventures and battles. What we wanted then were not daylies, titanforged items and mythic+ dungeons.. we were missing tools to help us create our own adventures and to make our impact on the world. We wanted to destroy or rebuild cities. We were organizing various incursions and wars, we were spending half a day in various PvP encounters and we had people join us because they were not busy farming for the chance of a small increase in their ilevel. Anyways.. apart from that easy money, they decided to add the microtransactions. Full price + monthly fee and you still didn't have all in the game.. if you wanted all, you had to pay extra. And this is visible in all their recent games. Grind vs tools or meaningful content, direct microtransactions or even timed limited offers through in-game or real world events. You want to have all the skins in a game? Pay to get chests during certain periods of time, buy digital collector edition of some other game you might not like, buy Blizzcon ticket, get twitch prime and who knows what else. As for Blizzcon, it's one interesting scam.. they want us to basically pay them so they will advertise their games to us.. it's almost like paying to receive ads.

The day blizzard fixes WoW is the day hell freezes over.
Also would be really cool if garrisons were like the following instead of just a mobile game:
Either 1. A PvP base that's capturable through a wintergrasp style battle, giving bonuses in the zone to the faction and guild that owns it, and there's also outposts and small bases as well, which could be captured to make an assault on the enemy garrison much easier. it would be an awesome world pvp thing.
    or
    2. Like normal but less of a mobile game and feels more like a garrison and no phasing, you can join your followers in their quest to help them, and some may die in the process, and other players can help your followers or end them (of course, you can only kill someone's followers if the user is not in pvp mode, and if the follower is not in a contested zone or zone of the opposing faction, however safer zones means less rewards)
And followers of each players may band up together just like real players.
It would be fucking sick to have your own npcs which act like actual followers.
And some followers may have their own set of skills and class you could train them in, So they could become a miner or a warrior, or a healer, or a pvp warrior to fend off enemy players.
And the reward for progressing your garrison like that? maybe some unique crafting recipes, or a cool item with vanilla style chance on hit effect (like stuns target for 1 second) or some other fun stuff
also your followers may request help from other players, other players getting experience, a little bit of silver, and maybe a blue or green out of the quest.
and you can send followers in groups.
However followers wont do your quests and raids and dungeons for you obviously.
This would have made WoD way more fun to play

I still fail to see the major problem with what everyone is complaining about, Is it microtransactions? is it the games themselves? the direction?
Cosmetic only microtransactions are 100% completely fine, it has 0 impacts on gameplay. I get people want to be pretty and have colorful ways to express yourself and your characters. But there are grinds to also achieve that.
With regards, to the games themselves, they are run by game designers and general lead developers. Those and maybe the people above them will help guide the general direction of games. Sure the money side of things may come into play with how can we maximize profit. But ultimately everyone knows if a game sells poorly and is a bad game.. Then there is no repeat business and thus no microtransactions to profit from. So making a good game is important to everyone for that reason. Look at overwatch, it sold massively, is considered one of the best games ever. but the microtransactions impact gameplay 0, once you've brought the game that's it, done unless you want to buy a skin,
I get people are pissed off I do, But I also think people are focusing too much on the negatives, Blizzard has changed hands since its IPO a few times and its never stopped them from producing good games and good content. Sure some things are bad and awkward but clearly, everyone here has had major enjoyment out of this company to be this passionate. Remember the good times and hope for better ones tomorrow.

I play both mobile and PC games. Here are some facts: I pay approximately $50-100/mo for my mobile gaming, whereas my PC gaming expenditure is close to $0 after I made the initial purchase. Think about it as a game developing company. Of course any sane person will tell you should immediate switch to the new business model that is the future: mobile gaming with micro-transaction, if you want to thrive. The profit margin of this new business model is 100 times more than the traditional 1-off sale model and it brings in non-stop future revenue + more accessible to a broader audience. I will say it is madness as a company if you don't see it and don't switch to this new business model asap and leverage the most out of it. Sorry, as much as some of us older folks who didn't grow up with mobile gaming, this is progress, and the world changes from era to the next, just like in the past 100 years and more.

Speaking in more of a general situation, i think the big problems for games in general started when DLC's for games was introduced. DLCs might be a result of companys looking at the desire and possitive feedback of expantions for games and people payed for it. For example Starcraft was a big game of its on, then the expantion Brood Wars were just as big of a game added on top of it. Companys were starting as a result to produce incomplete games for full price and then adding DLC packs for the player to complete the game for extra money. It is a very dirty buisness model, but it does not seem like most players are looking at it from that angle. I have however and it annoys me greatly. The time when companys offered us a complete game for a one time payment is almost completly gone and now replaced with broken games, full of DLCs and microtransactions in order to get the full playing experience. To return to my favorite game Starcraft. Starcraft was a fully developed game and so was Brood Wars. Starcraft 2 however was a game broken into 3 different games to get 3 times as much money for the game.

True. I didn't know how much detail I could go into without boring my audience to death. I could definitely expand on a lot of ideas that were implemented - that pointed towards a casual audience shift.

@@TheSuperRetroBros thats fair, i could see it getting boring. Honestly I thought your presentation was top notch I just think more could be said as to why these changes were made and not just "blizzard made these changes and the game is bad" which I dont think you did but I think putting these changes in a bigger context might help in the future. Or maybe I'm just talking out my ass. Good luck regardless

I've been wanting to make WoW videos for a long time. Most of my subs have come to my channel for Diablo news. It's hard to segue into other subject matters. Maybe I can delve into this kind of stuff at some point in the future if I get some more viewers that are interested!

For a long time united states has been number 1 consumer spending country in gaming market. But starting from 2016 it shifted to china.
Blizzard and Netease has been partners for a long time, like 10 years. This is all because Blizzard wanted to get into chinese market. Xi Jinping has been stopping game companies from developing internaly and externaly for a long time. It is impossible for a foreign company outside of china to get a hold of chinese market without the help of chinese company. So Diablo Mobile didn't just happen. It was planned for a long long time.
The real question is "Why now?". Well there has been rumors that Xi Jinping will releive some regulations for gaming companies. So for Blizzard, now is the chance.

Really good points that I never even thought about. To this day I have never not been pissed about microtransactions being added to WoW while it is a subscription based game. It has ONLY gotten worse over the years. I am still fond of WoW and I still actively play it but it is nowhere good as it used to be.
For me, this game mostly died with the Pandaria expansion. The content is cool and fun but it's also unrewarding.

No, actually activision was working with com2us on mobile games, and ended up making diablo immortal within the time line. Making billion of dollars, and activision just saw dollar signs within their eyes. I am not sure if they released it, but skylanders had a phone game running. Not sure if they releaseed it, or not. If that game had success they also came with diablo immortal. It is just activision doing some cash grab tactics. Don't blame the gamers when the game was made by gamers for hardcore gamers. Not made by non gamers for casual gamers.

I tried hearthstone on mobile for the first time and although it works well and still looks great, the controls where very clunky and I would sometimes make a mistake because my fingers touched the wrong card. It was also hard to read all the info on all the cards from the screen being so small as well as taking so much battery power on my phone. Tetris and way simpler games are perfect for mobile where you dont need to concentrate too much and can pause/stop at any time. Not sure how a game like Diablo is going to work with so much emphasis on multiplayer and power scaling through microtransactions but the small screen is already enough to put me off.

I whole heartly disagree that player specific drops are bad. Imho, its the best thing implemented into any games so far. Playing hours to no end and only then to be screwed over by RNG based dice roll on item you want or need (and you want it, else you would not even bother to play the dungeon/raid/alert in any game), no never again! I dont have time to repeat the same exact thing and expect different result anymore. If im screwed on drops ok, happens. But to compete with market farmers for one single item, nah ill pass. Instanced loot or im not interested in your product.

Stoped playing Midway wrath. Came back to try bfa. I want to play it so bad but can't get into it. To eazy miss the days mobs needed to be thought about now u just pull huge groups and elrun thought everything. I know it will never be the same most of the creaters are probably gone. Mobile is the future and I guess I just don't fit into that dream.

Blizzard as far as Diablo was concerned died after Blizzard North disbanded, and Max and Erich Schaefer left the company. Fortunately, Blizzard North has been reborn as Echtra Games, and are making a MMO ARPG called Torchlight Frontiers (rumored to be why they left Blizzard initially, as Bliz didn't want competition against WoW). Ironically, Diablo Immortal looks like they tried to steal the Torchlight Frontiers idea... Then ruin it by making it not playable on PC lol.
