Love the annual showdowns ! Great explanations as always ! Loved the selections too! ... video editing on point 👌🏻 cheers to 2019
This was a fantastic video. Lots of great content and amazing editing. I know that took a lot o time :-) Great work you two! Looking forward to the new show?
Thanks, guys! We appreciate it!
Excellent video. Start to finish. Also, crazy flight. I am pretty sure any one of those would have been my Bourbon of the year had I owned a bottle. Great work!
Great top bourbons list and loved the way you accomplished it! Cheers to 2019!!!
Loved this format! I like the more detailed review. Sara(h) nice dress. Chad, looking like a school Marm. I expect to see some shoulder on the next video sir. Great job you two!
Great job guys! Keep up the good work. My favorite is Old Forester birthday bourbon.
I wasn't going to drink today, but damn! If I knew drinking bourbon and getting buzzed on video was a career choice I could have saved so many years of school.
Best produced video from you guys by far. Nicely done. Glad I snagged a bottle of the 30 yr anniversary
Thanks y’all so much for all y’all do!!!
God-Speed for a Beautiful future together for you BOTH
🥃Cheers/Salud🥃
Great work!. Happy New Year!
Sara and Chad, Great way to close out 2018 and select your Top Bourbon. And a couple of the contenders are available to many. "Tingly" and "goose bumps" say it all!!
Hope 2019 is even better for ALL. Cheers!
Great vid, y'all. I'm happy to say I have two of the top four in my cabinet. I really hope I get a chance to snag a bottle of that 30th Anniversary some day. Cheers.
I'm doing a wee bit of research for Bourbon Month, taking notes from your videos... making a shopping list... I may need more than a month to try everything I want to buy!
Finally got to try Booker's 2018-04 - Oh my! I think you guys have spoiled me now! I have heard many describe it but never had it before. Last night we watched this video and today the Mash and Drum top 5, it was in both. So, we had to try it and it did not disappoint. What would you suggest as something similar yet more obtainable?
Great Job Chad and Sara !! btw, i have received my package and it was Perfect. Very well packaged ... very professional....Keep up the great work . Yall Rock !!
Hooray! I was able to score 2 bottles of the #1. Love that your tastes are so in line with mine on bourbon. Now you just need a show called "It's Ardbeg Night" and all will be right in the world.
Imagining the Stagg Jr. marketing campaign taking a page out of the Laphroaig playbook and pitching it as tasting like “a mysterious lumberjack.” 😂😂😂
Love the channel!
Great notes, great whittling down to a Bourbon of the Year! Sara looking lovely. Cheers Chad and Sara!
These episodes get better the more y'all drink. Good work.
Great video. how do you find all that good liquor?
Awesome flight fight! This is probably my favorite one you guys have ever done! Keep up the great work
Scored two bottles of Booker's 2018-04 tonight! One day after finally tasting it I got two bottles of my own! Whoo Hoo!
This was a really cool format. Surprising results! As always this should encourage everyone to try blind flights, you never know what will happen.
I rank EHTBP higher than Stagg Jr every time. There is an addicting tobacco flavor that keeps me coming back for more! I’m curious if you find it on a revisit...or would even like that flavor.
I need some Booker’s to compare, I’m seeing ‘18-04 everywhere now too.
Sara: "Mysterious lumberjack?" Go home. You're drunk. Oh, you are home. Nevermind.
Drinking game for this episode:
1 drink for every innuendo 😉
Not at ALL surprised by Stagg Jr. placing so high! Great pour AND available at a nice price. I am eagerly waiting on the 30th to come available in NY but at over $200 I am going to have to swallow hard before buying :) Love you guys! Here's to a great year!
I have every bottle in this tasting except that damn bookers 30th lol. Hasn’t hit TN yet but might get lucky. How is it compared to the bookers rye ?
All barrel proof, I love it!!!
Which magazine is better, bourbon Review or whiskey advocate? Just curious on you’re opinions
Quick question that just came to mind:
Have you ever done any episodes based on your favorite bourbons/ryes for cocktail use?
Not exactly. We have a series called "Drink More Bourbon Cocktails" where we recommend what bourbon to use in that particular cocktail, but we haven't done an episode on best bourbons or ryes for cocktail use.
Happy New Years, guys. Am I seeing Sara(h) for this review? So happy for you both this coming this year.
Great video! I can't see where it says a batch number on my bottle of Stagg Jr. How do you know what batch it is?
@@davidwilliard1724 Thanks David! I checked it out. Just got a bottle and it is batch 11.
What were the 21 contenders?
Great show. I'm surprised the the bookers was not the top 2 spots. Keep up the good work. Cheers
Hey, Guys, especially Chad,
I have never tasted flannel, although I love the feel and the look, what does it taste like? You're stretching, but it's o.k...I'm sampling all 4 now.
You wrote a book about the Larceny but didn’t include it? Just curious as to why/how?
Thanks. Sara.good for you...
Come in Chad... We expect better sir! Sara in her little black dress and all looking amazing for the new year with her hair done and everything.... And you in a t-shirt and zip up ... Lol definitely agree with the we need shoulder next video! Hahahaha another great video guys, Happy New year! And here is to a great 2019 to you both.
Great review. You two would honestly be my favorite channel if I only " drank more bourbon "😂
That's something you should remedy my friend!!
@@marlinbrown69 I would but the only one I've found that I really enjoy is wyoming and it's a 70 mile drive to the nearest store I can get it at. And yes I will get another bottle of it👍 As for now I am in love with scotch 👍👍
Woww No Elijah Craig Barrel Proof? Even blind this immediately blows my mind with its rich flavor profile ! I just looked for Bookers 30th and cheapest I found was $550.....so I guess I will not be tasting this one. Love your videos ...........cheers!
good job guys!!!
I found a couple of Kitchen Table batches today gathering dust on the shelf of my favorite store today. I rescued them from their situation.
Great job as always! A flight of damn fine bourbon! Cheers! 🥃👍
Wow Sara! You are looking very lovely this evening. ;) Great video you two!
where do you get those shelves . I want to have same set up at my house
Me too
Awesome stuff guys! Gonna have to try my luck on the secondary for that 30th.. Cheers!
its like 900 bucks US,,no thanks..lol
@@chrisb48907 I see it for about $550 regularly
@@SippersSocialClub ok..i stand corrected Jeremy..haha 550..no thanks,,cheers bud !
@@chrisb48907 haha! Still crazy, but maybe worth taking a shot in a raffle.
That Stagg jr. At 63.2 percent was fantastic
Best video of "2018"
love the vid
Good picks I agree Good taste but there all good for they get the job done
Elijah Craig is my favorite regular drinking bourbon. Imo the best value.
Great review... I thoroughly enjoyed this video.
Are you guys up for helping me with a whisky conundrum...? I have a modest collection of various Bourbon, Single Malt, Rye, etc., and lately when I sample Bourbon they taste more and more harsh as time rolls on (like tongue burn and bitter, unpleasant taste), and the Single Malts taste better and better in comparison. I have not drawn any conclusions... I'm just a bit perplexed. Any thoughts?
Cheers!
Man it's funny Stagg Jr batch 10 was such a miss for me, batch 9 was a home run but 10 was so flat tasting for me. E.H. Taylor BP was my fav 2018 bourbon so seeing it in last kinda sucks but each pallet is different and your videos are still the greatest, looking forward to 2019!
I feel like 4th of all the Bourbons released in 2018 is a win? 🤷♂️
If you guys can get your hands on it, a good bourbon is blood oath. It has different pacts for the different years and they are all pretty damn good.
when are you guys adding Kentucky Owl to the mix?
Because of this I am going to buy and try some bookers 30th. Thank you for the introduction, I have a lady whose acquaintance I must meet. Her name is Booker.
Please review Bob Dylan's new Bourbon from Heavens Door.
You should make a shirt with Bill O'Reily that says "F@$& it, we'll do it blind!"
I have a bottle of the runner up!!!
You are both adorable, especially Sara. You don't sound like you're from Eastern Kentucky, you sound like you're from westren New York. Where are you from?? I'm a new fan.
Not sure I agree about the Bookers in general. Can't seem the justify it when you compare it to the price and flavor of Knob Creek single barrel at 120 proof.
I bought myself of Knob Creek single barrel, and I can't stay out of it. Yum. It really is like Knob Creek turned up to 12. I love Knob Creek, but as long as I can find single barrel, I won't go back.
I still have a bottle of the age statement 9 years old 100 proof... unopened.. and about 1/4 bottle opened and kept gassed... I like this bourbon more than any other...
Im new to whiskey but im partial to scotch, i have had a few bourbons like elijah craig, basil haydens and buffalo trace. For a newbie to bourbon what would you recommend? (This is a question for everyone) thank you in advance for helping me broaden my whiskey horizon.
Hey Ian, I made the move from scotch to bourbon a few years back, the first bourbon I bought was Eagle Rare 10 Year Old Kentucky Straight Bourbon ... I have tried many since, but always go back to the Eagle Rare for my every-day bourbon!
Hey Ian. True on the Eagle Rare. But for me Knob Creek the 100 proof is one of my very favorite. It is easy to find and very reasonably priced. If you want to splurge, Widow Jane is great but pretty expensive at 70ish.. Your tastes will vary so try as many as you can, you may find what someone else loves, you may not... GOOD LUCK.
@@tommyg5095 thank you for both the recommendations and the words of wisdom.
@@alexmahon3878 alex thanks for the recommendation i will look out for it next time im out and about for a bottle
@@ianbroadwater7008
If you are willing to accept that good flavor con be found just by exploring some unknowns, I highly recommend trying some rye whiskies.. Again, Knob Creek rye is great, and a great place to start in trying a new flavor profile.. This rye is a little more spicy, kinda peppery, but that peppery is not really the best description of flavor. You gotta try it though, I am sure you will like it... If you are like me, then exploring all the flavors offered by different bottlings by different distillers, then I would suggest you order from Amazon a can or four(four pack) of Private Preserve Gas. This way, the opened bottle of liquor can be kept from oxidation. Oxidation will change the flavor, usually not for the better. This is a great investment if you are planning on trying as many flavors as affordable,,, Myself, I gas my opened bottles with Private Preserve Gas. I do not worry about flavor changes with my opened bottles, my opened bottles total over 100, so it is conceivable I will never finish most of those in my lifetime.... but they will remain fresh..
I was surprised that your flight were all high proof. Is that a personal bias? I'm a Whiskey Vault fan, but listening to Sara make those taste notes is sexy!
I'm not surprised no BTAC. And Stagg Jnr has been a hit for me recently.
[assorted expletives] ... dammit, kids! I was hoping against hope that you wouldn't pick the Bookers 30th for 1st place, since I have less than zero chance of getting it where I live :-(
The difference between Batch 9 and 10 is night and day. 10 is so much smoother. I get like a dark chocolate covered cherry with that outdoorsy damp musty barn kinda feel. I really like Batch 10
That would be LUMBERJILL
A- totally called this result during the uncorking of Booker’s 30th live show
B- Chad, where’s the tux? No love for the best of video anymore?
C- Great dress Sara!
D- Stagg Jr over ECBP? I know taste is subjective, but c’mon. Also Batch 11 was better than 10.
E- Another great job guys! All the best to you 2 in this new year.
Stagg Jr. is definitely not as good as ECBP
4 great bourbons and some of my favorites for sure.
All barrel proof!
A lumberjane?
Chad! No flannel or T-shirt! Looking sharp! Engagement looks good on you! 😂
It's easy to pick a great bourbon if price is no object.
So I have the last 3 and not a chance in hell of getting #1, oh well I'll live.
no elijah craig barrel proof. mmmm.
THIS^^^^^^
laplantski true
So good. Found a bottle in DC for $60!
EC barrel proof and Makers cask strength beat Stagg Jr this last year in my opinion
Even blind this immediately blows my mind with its rich flavor profile !
Ok tried a combo drink. Don’t knock it till you try. Approximately 2 tablespoons Oban 14 to coat the glass. Then your preferred amount of Turkey Rare Breed then finish with Dr Pepper. Sooo yummy 😋
So who didn't coordinate the dress code? 😅
Sounds like some spicy lovers.
Sipping on some 4RSB right now. Going in for pour #2
Whats everyone else sipping on tonight?
@@shankins07 haven't started yet
Still at work :(
@@charlesashworth6805 Bro, you are behind. Catch up!
I miss the old nothing working bad wifi jokes lol
2018 Stagg Jr. better than the 2018 BTAC George T Stagg??? Whaaaa??
The usual suspects in Bookers but surprised by the 2 BT entries for you both. You cannot go past any of the top 6 though
I WISH I had time to taste ALL of them, but I have tasted a bunch, and for sipping, I still have not found any better that Wild Turkey:) ...and it's cheap:)
If the winner is 150ish over the other three... Did it really win?
Wonderfully done and very informative. (Warren)
Is that an engagement ring that Sara is wearing?
Yup. Happened about a month ago. Join their Patreon and get the full scoop. (Hint! Hint!)
It is a little known fact that Chad played Varys the Eunuch on Game of Thrones. Sara wears a strapless dress and was flirty the entire time. Chad's breathing doesn't even accelerate.
Love your videos and know taste is suggestive the only downside is that your preferences ALWAY are high proof bourbons which is your obvious preference Whereas many lower proof bourbons have much better flavor profile without the intense BURN If only you could find a bourbon that puts undiluted clear spirit in barrel like ever-clear @ 190 proof to age for 8 -10 years and see if you will meet your match for high proof bourbon And don’t forget to take a week long break each quarter year to make sure you can Stay happy and healthy and keep up the great work Ps nice dress 👗
I really love your videos. Great photography! Sara: Looking fine! Chad: Marry her before she figures out that she's to hot for you. Rock On!
Ive never actually seen stagg jr for sale in a store before
Me either...that being said a lot of things they say are rare I have readily available.
It’s almost like you guys smoked a joint before you did your tasting
Damn, Sara!
The 30th Anniversary Booker’s is $200+ a bottle.
For meeeee...
Interesting that in a wheated bourbon you tasted rye...
No Elijah Craig? What? Who? How and, Why? How did it not make the final cut??
One thing to keep in mind... Price... and if you can even find these at all...
Colonel E.H. Taylor... $150+... I've never seen it here in Michigan...
Booker's 30th... $200+... Again, never seen it...
Stagg Jr.... $150+... I'm pretty sure I saw this one a while ago but now that I'm specifically looking for it... Nope...
Booker's 2018-04... $80... This one I have actually bought (not opened it yet though) and have seen other variants at multiple locations near me...
There is a 12% "sin" tax on spirits in Michigan so I assume that discourages many distributors of high-end stuff to sell here... Those states that don't have this... consider yourselves lucky!
JS Krawz Stagg Jr. in Michigan is $50. I think you are thinking of Stagg BTAC for $150. I have three of the Jrs and paid a slight markup of $55 each.
