Great episode! I did the connoisseur tour last year at HH and me personally I preferred the ECBP C918 over the WHH 12. Glad because of the price tag! To be fair it wasn't blind though. Cheers!

Of all the bourbon y'all had in this episode I can only get my hands on the rebel yell 100 and Elijah Craig barrel proof B519. I love my ECBP haven't opened the RY100 yet.
I picked this one up without hesitation. My buddy that I was traveling with, while in Kentucky swore by it. Sadly you can only buy one per year. But delicious it is. Congrats to William Heaven Hill!

Obviously super late to this one, but I gotta say that I’m always impressed that Chad & Sara remain sharp and insightful throughout all these videos, especially considering some of the proof they’re dealing with during these flight fights. I was watching another WhiskyTuber pair this afternoon and at one point I started to get a little concerned I was just watching one of the dudes get drunk while he kind of rambled through his review. In contrast, C+S seem to always keep it fairly composed even while they provide comedy during these “exceptional” videos.
I know it would be a lot of work, but could a "Top 5 Best Generally Available Bourbons and Ryes of 2019" video be something you guys do in the near future? I love seeing exclusive bottles, but without really being able to taste any of these (except maybe the ECBP), it's hard to get excited or relate. Not really a critique of this video but more of a suggestion :) If not, no biggie. Keep up the great content, guys.

The exact thought I had going into this video...I'm Never going to find any of these and even if I somehow stumbled upon one, it would probably be way out of my price range to buy a bottle or more than one of these. Maybe a taste at a whiskey bar where they will again jack up the price. I miss the 2000's when I could find Pappy at MSRP at the corner store in a college town and nobody gave a care in the world about good bourbon.
Agree with all of you! I found a bottle of Taylor single barrel for $90. Limited release doesn't help most of us trying to spend $25-$60 for the ones we can actually find. A $10 pour it's hard to take without some chest pains. No one likes a bourbon hipster and most of us don't live in Kentucky.
One of my 2019 tops under 50 is Early Times Old Style BiB. 25 at Total wine. Not in every state, actually bought it in SC on vacation.
Another one for 2019 was Rare Breed under 50 and Bookers 2019-3 this was 80 dollars in MD. Others were store picks of Four Roses/Makers Mark Selects above 75.00
We hear ya, Jeff, and everyone else in this thread. We are super lucky and feel honored to get to try some of stuff we have in our collection, and I guess we just thought "why not celebrate that?" We also have other series like our "64 Bourbons Under $30" that deal with available and affordable whiskey. That series in itself is a Best Of. We also start our Best Of The Year process with a large hand full of whiskeys and rank our way through them until we get to the final five. That hand full had some available whiskey in it, it just didn't advance. Two years ago a Booker's took the top prize and that's pretty available. The crazy thing is, with all the hype and money being spent on BTAC and Pappy, here's an "under the radar" label in William Heavenhill that is still for sale at retail price in their gift shop. Albeit a very pricy bottle and only sold in their gift shop, but it's far and away the best tasting thing we've had all year and it still sits on a shelf. I've kind of gone off on a tangent here, but I think that's really interesting. Anyway, thank you for suggestion and maybe next year we can do something more "available friendly" along with our Best Of. Cheers!
Chad and Sara this was a great video and a lot of fun to watch. I think EDBP is the best bourbon out there for the money. The William Heavenhill 12 is up to $800 on the secondary market... out of my range. This took me over the edge-- I subscribed.

I love you guys (so cute). Watch you often. Have the EC b519 and really like it. Just got the EC C919, but have not opened, yet. I'm drinking some OF 1920, and it is great. The William Heavenhill. sounds nice, but I guess I need to take a trip to get that. Might have to enjoy the EC barrel proofs.

Having tasting on things are hard to find is no point and makes no sense plus makes you look like snobs , dont mean to hurt anyone feelings , I could order all van winkle line and do a tasting also . van winkle is available every where online this days compare to past years , it was hard to find because the price was still reasonable now its because its way over priced making ts very easy to find , china is buying everything over the price point so USA company's stop carrying about us the Americans , its all about the big buck . happy thoughts lol
That why we do things like our “64 Bourbons Under $30” Flight Fights. Best of the year is for just that, the very best we’ve had. We won’t deny that we’re very lucky with some of the things we get to try, but none of it is just handed to us, we put in the foot work, so why not celebrate it. But anyway, this episode is all about the best of the best, the rest of the year is about everything from the bottom to top shelf and anything in between.
It's Bourbon Night I appreciate that you do both style of flights and include the greats of the year. Even BTAC and Van Winkle have their down releases and the objective comparison is helpful. I am very surprised SmbLE didn’t crack top 5 though.

I took the cheek thing from Chad and yes it helps. And I actually got a good amount of these this year and also passed on a few but had the chance to get them.
Dang. I have 3 bottles of ECBP that are already open and I had to crack a B519 to taste along. Worth it.

The power couple of Whiskey.
Suggestion: do a blind single barrel vs non single barrel. For example pick Weller Special Reserve iterations: several different single barrels (months apart) and WSR standard blend. I'm an old Treasury Man and in my time in distilleries the art of blending was touted and consistancy was paramount. And now I've seen a review of Henry McKenna Single, that was disappointing. The (surprised) reviewer attributed it to "maybe this was a bad barrel".
I'm curious.
Every single one of the ECBP releases was great this year. My favorite batch was the A119 and then the C919. I found the B519 to be a little bitter for my palate, but it was still great. My favorite this year was the Stagg Jr. Batch 12 - so tasty. Cheers! 🥃
Stagg jr batch 13 has won it for me. Also you guys can find of these if you look hard enough. Some places even sell them online 😉

Top two are both Heaven Hill, both 12yo, both barrel proof, same mashbill so...is honey barrels and price the only difference?

New to the channel (subbed!) so I've been rewatching some old videos. Have you ever done a pairings video of bourbon with food? I saw one where you were eating chocolate chips, so that made me wonder what other food would pair well.

I work at Bevmo and we have had Elijah Craig Barrel Proof the one you are talking about from before Christmas. I believe we still have one bottle left out of the six original bottles we started with. I bought a bottle for my son on law. Now i want to buy the last bottle for me
I am extremely new to the world of Bourbonology, but there does seem to be a theme from the several bourbon channels that I follow, in that they all seem to be as you say "proof hounds". Hmmmmmm very interesting and I think my bottle of Knob Creek small batch has a kick. Guess palates change over time. By the looks of it for the STRONGER!

I have tried old forester rye, wt101,eagle rare, buffalo trace, makers mark and benchmark they all taste about the same except benchmark that taste very light

If you’re coming to KY, shoot us an email and let us know what you’re looking for and maybe we can help. Don’t know why you’re getting “not bourbon drinker” vibes from us, we have our fair share of bottle kills.

I mean Im not stupid I know why . The bottles are just collecting dust . Well I made it to 2:40 into the video, I realize all your candidates are either (1) bourbons not available to me here or (2) bourbons that I would never buy for certain reasons. So ... maybe next year. My top 5 in no particular order, Elijah Craig Small Batch, Weller SR, Old Grand Dad 114, Wild Turkey 101, and Eagle Rare.

I lucked into a bottle of B519 on my beach vacation in Destin, FL back in October. I found it for about $70 in the liquor store attached to the Publix right off of the Mid Bay Bridge. I darn near finished the bottle myself on vacation it was so good. I only have a few pours left that I intend on savoring.
