Trout Fishing and Dale Hollow Hatchery Walk Thru
Вставка
- Опубліковано 8 гру 2020
- took a walk thru the Dale Hollow National Hatchery and also fished in the Obey River below the dam. There seemed to be a lot of activity with fish hitting the surface but only managed a handful of trout on spinners. tried with a few other lures but no more fish.

Fish hatchery tour was very cool!
So awesome. Beautiful trout
I’m studying night before fishing dale hollow tailwaters. Thank you for the pointers.
I really enjoyed the hatchery!
All good!
I love a Blue Fox spinner for trout!
herring paradise
Sometimes you catch a lot , and sometimes you don't ...lol.. Great videos ... Keep them coming ...
Great to watch you catch trout
I hope to go after Steelhead in a few days
Just another type of Rainbow Tout
But I will hope to hook 1 or 2 in a day of fishing
Interesting video!
The dam connecting that to Melton hill lake has some monster stripers below it, I always go to dale hollow, it’s my #1 choice.
When trout are rolling on top like that and I'm using spinning tackle. I will use a clear floater with a small black hair jig or beadhead nymph about 4 to 6 feet below the floater and reel it very slow. It usually produces fish after fish.
Wednesday evening trout fishing with the Creek Master.
Living the dream
A nice great video i been watching this since the pandemic here u keep going wt nice adventures at times i feel like there fishing myself god bless u keep it brother
I wanna move to TN....❤️❤️
Blue Fox gold or silver spinners have always produced the trout for me. Best spinners in my opinion.
When I was 16 my brother, nephews and I went trout fishing in Hiwassee River in Reliance, TN. It was December and school had not been closed but a few days. We waded out into the river and I think all of us caught our limit. My brother developed pneumonia and was very sick. I remember when we got out of the water our legs were blue. The things we do when we're young. That was about 45 years ago.
Good video
#237👍🎣👀
Trout fishing is my thing. Natural lunkers preferably.
Nice!
Awesome 💪
Always nice to see new material
Lake trout can get huge. I'm in south east Ohio. there are a lot of native brook trout in the hills close. the lakes have to be really deep to hold them in the summer. We have a reservoir not to far away for the village on Barnseville and Woodsfield area called slope Creek. It's 45 foot deep through the deep channel. It's rare to catch a trout in the creeks here but right across the river in PA and WV there are a lot of native Monroe lake is also close by and they are stocked and do hold them. I'm surprised they even stock them that far south but those mountain streams are loaded.
I've been fly fishing the Obey for a couple years now and the fish hitting top water near the dam were eating emerging midges. With a fly rod and the right midge pattern, 100 fish a day is well within the realm of possibilities.
I’m studying night before fishing trout dale hallow… are they hitting this late? Any pointers? I live in Cookeville now but from Colorado. I’m looking for more trout fishing waters near here. Can you help?
@@NorthwesternColorado I actually just got back from there today. They are a little off right now due to the rain and snow but I still did pretty decent. Since it is a tailwater midges are pretty much a year round guarantee.
@@NorthwesternColorado Also, make sure you are checking the generation schedule and fishing it when they haven't got any generators running, unless you are going to drift it with a drift boat.
Never a boring video with Creek Adventures!
Nice Trout fishing show, when they stop they stop. I still say you should have a cook and eat, if you don't like fish give them away to someone. You would be good at it!!! GOD BLESS!
Great trout video brother. If you have not been, you need to go to the Wolf Creek Hatchery in KY. Similar to the Dale Hollow one it's awesome to visit. Of course with trout fishing near by.
yeah i want to check that out
Loved the video and I don’t want u kicked out of Clay County and Dale Hollow. We are from Cookeville but Celina is pronounced Se-LI-na. Long I. Lol. Keep up the good work
Meant to say wouldn't you have liked to hook into one of those large rainbows at the hatchery was so impressed couldn't express myself correctly lol.
Can you do a video of your trout tackle. And keep up the good work l. Love watching your videos.
Creeky 👍 kool love the trout spot and the hatchery is so kool pumps you up to go fishing I seen the glint in your eye you wanted to make just one cast in there 👍🎣 🍻
That looks so wintery and a beautiful looking fishing day. Have you ever been to Pheasant Fields Fish Hatchery in Tellico yet? Always enjoy looking it over. I have not fished for trout since I was about 8 years old and I was horrible. My Dad would catch them like crazy and get the limit for both of us .
Not yet!
We fished the Obey River back in '13 where the west and east forks merge. I'm eager to get back there soon. Thanks for sharing. 👍🐟
Those are golden trout
Palomino, not golden.
You need a Polarized lens, lol... One of my favorite spots is the fish hatchery in Walhalla SC... There's lots of good fishing in that area..... I believe they said the big ones are their brood fish for good genetics.
Such beautiful fish, thanks for uploading this
Next time you fish for trout try using 3 inch plus jerk baits with a slow twitching approach it would be awesome to see you catch a brood stock rainbow and give you a crazy fight
We have some nice hatcheries in West Virginia and good trout fishing. I've only caught one but going to work on that. Hope you got my Christmas card. Merry Christmas God Bless.
yes i did, thanks so much
I saw two comments calling them golden or yellow, both are wrong. They’re Palomino trout, goldens are native to the west like Colorado.
You didn't do to bad hooking into those trout wouldn't like to have caught one of those large trout at the hatcherie I didn't know they got that big other than steel head awesome footage.
I have a lot of happy memories of fishing that river below the dam.
I saw you Tuesday I guess getting some local BBQ! Didn't have time to stop and chat unfortunately. You did wave though I guess it was the kayak in the bed of the truck that made you wave. I've got a secret spot that's local that has huge browns and smallies if your interested.
Do you have a polarizing filter for your camera? Would help at the hatchery. Another great vid!
Did that kind of walk through at Lebanon Missouri Bennett springs absolutely beautiful place great trout fishery
Sa-line-a, Celina great place, good video.. Burkesville and below has better fishing.
Edit: At least you know about the blue fox.
I cant believe you are standing in that cold water with out waders! You are the man! I live on the Ocoee and know how cold it is right now.
i was wearing waders
There was a issue there at the dale hollow hatchery back in march.a kill, they aint talkin, they DID NOT stock the DH lake this year..i think the winter stocking will be down and the fish will be smaller.update monterey: ucp, meadow creek lake,as best as i can see will not be stocked this winter.deep lake, old quarry,no gas motors,no houses no docks.126 acres...very quiet .no clue why,?guessin short on fish.caught trout there in june...past 2 yrs they dont hold past early june though.
.... if you want to do a kayak vid there this spring " say yes" beautiful quiet lake, shoreline is just 1 downed tree after another.good gravel parking and easy launch.big crappie, yellow perch, bass.i personally dont do facebook or instagram ,my wife does FB ,i guess short on up a email adress( pretty much a bad idea, get it) i,d send you some pics of that pretty little lake and stringer pics.love to have you here ,spare bedroom..lakes 10 minutes from the house....just a thought.really like your vids.
Nice. The hatchery was interesting, never seen one on the inside. Thanks for the video!
I have toured both cold and warm water hatcheries in NJ when i lives there. It is so cool seeing all the Big Breeders!
I know in CT they periodically release the brood stock and lucky anglers catch some monsters!
Well Mr Terrible that underwater release was pretty damn good!!! Lol
Haha nice one Sir John! I was looking forward for this!
Love me some trout fishing 🎣
I been too a couple of hatcheries here in Ontario ,these places are always so cool.
Great release of the trout.
I'm at work but I might have to take a "bathroom break" , this has to be a great video! The obey is on my list of spots to try!!
😂😂 I’m sitting here in Anchorage Alaska with 2 feet of snow on my yard and just finished running the snow blower while you talk about “cold” ... it’s mid twenties here and feels warm and nice.
Have you ever tried Joe's flies royal Coachman I catch alot of fish on this lure different species also but they are hard to find this time of year
i dont think i have
Great video! Thanks for doing a trout one. My favorite kind of fishing. Maybe you'll have the time to do a few videos of trout fishing in North Georgia.
Cool video! I think those yellow rainbows are common at hatcheries. I’ve seen them at the Rock Creek hatchery near Blue Ridge, Ga.
John,
Nice hatchery. There are a couple near me and I too enjoy going to see the extra large rainbows in the tanks. One of the albino’s looks like it had a big hump on it’s back. Makes me think someday it too will be a big one. At my favorite trout stream the bite turns on when they release water from the dam and shuts down when the flow stops.
Never been to hatchery looks like a lot of fish pretty neat to see great video
Wonder how they keep the birds away?
you should have put the camera under the water to see all of them
Makes me want to go to South Holston River and catch some trout myself.
i havent tried there but plan to soon
Im from PA, so fly fishing for trout is 2nd nature here 👍...what were the wading boots you were wearing?
chota boots
Great looking hatchery. You need to come up by the Ohio, Pennsylvania boarder. Linesville spillway is EPIC.
I believe it is a federal hatchery but tn moves the fish where and when.
.....did you see the resident vultures?
@@keithknechg3217 you can fish one side of Linesville. I just can't remember what side it is.
@@keithknechg3217 not Tennessee. Ohio.
@@SCUMDOGFISHING got ya,understood....i,m geographically challenged on ocasion..
Looks like a good video ..time to find out
Nice video Man! Stay on em
Do they say anything if they see you walking through the hatchery carrying a fishing pole ?
Hahahahaha! I was thinking same thing, robert! Nice video
The big ones are held for eggs. When the fishes are ripe, you can strip the eggs and the milk into a pot, take a feather and mix. If you want them to grow up wild (which is better, cause they attach better to the ecosystem) you can take hatching boxes with openings and put them into the stream, best near some gravel beds, where the youg ones find places to hide after hatching.
👍👍👍
Why not one day film your getting on and off your Kayak. I recently purchased one but haven't used it yet. So many have told me it would dump me but I see how stable you are on yours.
Once the trout holdover, fishing current breaks along the bank in higher water can be great. Often you can get 4 or 5 fish off each eddy.
John have you ever checked out the hatchery out past Bald River Falls?
solid trout fishing - good timing - fish were very active - would have tried some trout pattern crankbaits
Like to cast rod in there lol
How do you rig your helgramite lure ?
It's pronounced sa line a lol clay county TN home of the smallmouth lol
Some of those trout will end up in Alabama.
Those aren't albinos. They're a special strain of rainbow trout called golden rainbow. It also looked like they had another color variation known as a blue trout. Rainbow trout have a lot of color variation.
Greens..
What rod and reel are you using
Beans
It has been a while since I have heard someone else say , ¨ big ´uns ¨ . They must´ve been ¨mama and daddy trout . Thanks for sharing .
What was the tempature that day
outdoor was 35
I will say it’s not a bad idea to pinch the barbs down on your hooks when fishing for trout. They are really weak and fragile and can’t handle it like bass and other hearty fish.
I went there for the first time two weeks ago, it was absolutely beautiful! They weren't running any generators when I was there so the water was much lower. How many were they running in this video? Also you should check out hatchery creek there next time you go!
i dont think any generators were running
What was that big one at the hatchery??
John your feet got to be cold
Moving to Tennessee-Dale hollow area next year from Illinois. When was this shot?
In this episode: The Open Area is Open!
Were those golden trout?
They r yellow trout, the real golden trout is not even close to resemble the ones in this video. Yellow trout have been made by man for consumer wants.. that bluish trout is a genetic altered trout before it hatched, from the egg.
yeah i realized after i called them albino
@@jasonkohl5497 thanks, I'm still learning the different variations of the basic trout species.
@@WoodsGhost no problem. I went to college in fishery biology. I'm from buhl idaho and we are known as the trout capital of the world.
@@jasonkohl5497 lol, there are a couple places that claim that title huh? I just went to Cotter Arkansas after Thanksgiving and they seem to believe that's their title lol. I wouldn't know, I've never been to Buhl. But maybe one day I'll get up there and form my own opinion on who is the rightful king of trout
Yeah, those brooders are good size, but for a real hatchery experience, come to Oregon or Washington and tour a salmon or steelhead hatchery. They DWARF your trout!
I promise u nobody who lives near celina pronounces it that way
ok
Early
It's surprising they don't have more visitors at every hatchery. I know Oregon & Washington have really strong hatcheries for Salmon & trout.
