Have you ever made an outdoors video when someone wasn't making a ton of noise off camera? LOL! Great video anyways! This is very practical advice. I think what happens a lot of times is when we, as coaches, see kids practicing this in the field we look at it as goofing around because it's practicing something unconventional that doesn't come up super duper often. But when it does, and you've practiced and gained the skills to make the play, you look like a superhero! Also, I think it's a difficult thing to practice correctly. Is there any way you could go a little more in depth on how to do it or is it more of a feel thing?

Is there ever a time when you would throw on the run off of your normal glove side leg? Let’s say you’re playing third and you charge a ball on the run grounded past the pitcher’s right side, but fairly near the mound, so your momentum is heading toward your target of first base. If you had time, would you take an extra step and throw off your normal leg? Or is that always a bad idea when on the run. If so, why?

Yes only time is usually on like a Jeter type throw from a backhand or moving away from a base. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Antonelli Baseball Thanks for the reply Matt. If it’s true that nearly every throw on the run in the infield (except very rare plays) should be off of the “wrong” foot, that makes this an extremely important aspect of infield play. If you find time to do it, please make one of your excellent mlb analysis videos and/or a video of exactly how this is done. The current video focuses on encouraging players to not neglect practicing this type of throw, but another video going in depth on “how to” would take you to Jedi status. Thx man.

Matt, why do some players hop before making a long throw?

To create momentum and get behind the ball with the body in support vice just the arm.

In one of his other videos he discusses skill vs talent. This is a skill. You develop it. So yes, regardless of how good you are, you drill yourself with it no matter how you've 'mastered' it. Kobe Bryant practiced his jump shot every single day. He's one of the greatest to play and still practice the jump shot every day, though most would consider him a master at it.
