Baseball focus issue was user error. You used the wide area in combination with face detect, so the camera is going to try to find a face/eyes anywhere in the frame, if closer better, and focus on them, and that's exactly what it did. The batter didn't have his eyes visible enough. You could simply have changed the focus area in that instance and it would have worked great.
I picked up the A7C II at my camera shop. Going in, I thought I wanted the A7CR instead. I already have the A7C, so I was leaning towards more megapixels this time, granted it is $600 more expensive. As long as your hands fit nicely with the smaller grip, the A7C II is a very compelling hybrid camera - only a few minor missing features from the big brother A7IV - plus it includes AI tracking. The guy at the camera shop seemed convinced that anyone considering the A7CR should just get the A7RV instead - granted, that's another $500-900 (depending on sales and timing). But, I see it like the same value prop as the A7C II - a travel-friendly version that is cheaper (better value) than the larger body. I think I would agree, the A7C II is the better camera for general, hybrid use and the one I would automatically consider if I didn't already have the previous gen. Decisions, decisions. I know, this is a very first world problem. LOL
I’m surprised they don’t put high resolution LCD panels on these compact bodies. I imagine most folks will shoot these off the LCD rather than the EVF.
How the 4k 60p in crop factor mode on the a7cII compare to 4k 60p on a FX30/a6700 when regarding low light? are they virtually the same or a FF sensor is still better even in crop mode?
Great camera... and sometime next year it will drop $300 and be an absolutely amazing deal.... have to wonder if Sony has a A7V in the wings ready to go... not sure there is much reason to go with the A7VI right now unless you are a pro and need the dual card slots to protect your work.
Difference is you can buy an A7IV used as low as 1900, so it’s just a matter of what features are more important. Both are great, but coming from a Fuji XT4 (with a fantastic EVF) I couldn’t deal with a smaller lower resolution Evf. Also the 1/8000 shutter speed has actually come in handy a few times or me, as well as all the customizable buttons.
Main difference compared to A7IV is: mech shutter halved to 1/4000, no mech front/first curtain(or what is it called) which causes bokeh imperfections, no closed shutter to protect sensor when swapping lens, burst shooting limit due to 1 card slot. What's better: 7stop IS(up to 2s with wide sony lens), cheaper, not a brick - small&light,... Slow shutter and imperfections on super bright lens can be countered with ND filter. Basically a7cII is better in low light or handheld shooting. For those recording videos there are obviously bigger heat limits, but I don't.
@ashley-paul On other side, I read and see that it can record for a longer time till it hits the heat limit compared to c line since there is more space to dissipate heat. I d9 not care about that stat either way, since my videos are about 16s in length 😂 So if you care and you found a difference in IV to be worse, then c is better for you. Tho, I think IV limit shouldn't be so bad, maybe it depends on settings and card used?
I could get the A7 IV to overheat indoors every single time within about an hour in 4K24/30 by using USB-C power. The A7C never overheated with those settings. Neither did the A7R V when I tested it. I have a feeling that's because the A7 IV does a full pixel readout of 33 megapixels, whereas the A7R V does pixel binning and A7C only has 24 megapixels. I personally don't have the A7C II so I can't test its overheating, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if it was better thermally than the A7 IV. The A7 IV is like 2 years old at this point and A7C II actually has newer chips and processing, so it could be more thermally efficient. I wouldn't know. I just wouldn't automatically assume that the A7C II overheats more, that's all. A7C was better for longer videos than the A7 III was, after all.
@ashley-paul considering that, it can be different when in crop mode also when on usbc power. That to say, I got no idea if those cameras can work purely on usbc without battery, that would make cooling better, did not try it as I have no reason to. Battery create heat, so it could also cool better if that space was opened or some cooling used in it instead of battery. Sony cameras definitely need that kind of add-on to record without any issues. I hear PlayStation got heat problems, My sony amp in car got too, they should up their game finally, why everything overheats 😂
Around the 5:10 mark in this video, seeing the view you had, it looked like the camera was intent on finding an eye, and since the batter had his back to you, it ignored him for the eyes it saw in the dugout. That doesn't help soothe the aggravation over the missed shots, but that might be something for you or someone else to watch for in the future.
I don't do much video...but...a pair of A7c (mark 1) bodies and an even older A7s (also mark 1) do all my street work...I am an American retired here in Bangkok...Used cameras and lenses are plentiful with every brand present...Cheers...Note: I am soon to buy the Sony 200-600/5.6-6.3 lens (for street/airplanes/boats/etc).
Nice Preview. Looks like a great camera. I like the form factor. As an A7IV user, I am somewhat envious of the improved AF and stabilization, but it's been a couple of years and one would hope / expect advancements in these areas. Disappointed that there is no improvement in the EVF and LCD. Hoping to see an upgraded EVF and LCD in the upcoming A7V.
Tend to buy a camera from one of the a7cii and the a7iv. Mainly shoot family photos and for travelling, maybe 30% of videos. Which one should I go for? I mean the latest a7cii is really neat, but the dual card slot and evf is really good. SOMEBODY HELPS ME?
Despite being one of the largest LCD manufacturers, Sony still puts in 2005 quality LCDs in their mirrorless cams. This is one big reason I stuck with Canon. That and the fact that the Sonys still have cropped 4K60 and no full frame like the R6 II (best full frame 4k60 you can get) and the R8.
@@yugan6559 - Given your use case, you could save some money and get the original a7c plus a nice walkaround lens and still come under the cost of the mark ii. I don't believe you need dual slots or the most advanced autofocus for that?
@yugan6559 I have an a7c and never had issues with one card slot...having better auto focus and stabilization is more valuable to me than an extra card slot and evf.
I'm thinking of buying a Sony A6700 or A7C ii camera, and after seeing your videos of both cameras,I like the image quality of the Sony A7C2 a lot more. I've found both the photos and videos of the Sony A6700 noisier than expected while the photos and videos of the Sony A7C II looked great for my taste. I haven't seen your video of the Sony A7C, so I"m going to take a look at it before making a decision. Finally, I'd like to say that I've found very useful your videos because you mix theory and practice in a very interesting way!👌
One thing no one talks about is that a camera with a big EVF bump in the center can’t be worn with a strap as easily. With the A7C and A6000 bodies you can put the top of the camera flush against your back which allows the lens to hang down parallel to your back. Much more comfy than having the lens stick out perpendicular to your hip or back.
I currently have a canon 5D mark III, I am looking to get a newer camera. I am now photographing basketball photos for my son’s basketball team, both photos and videos. What is a great camera you could recommend that will be better than my current camera? I need something great in low light for the gym. That’s under $2300. I appreciate your help
You're onto something. Having a big heavy camera often limits your desire to use it, as good as the quality might be. Particularly when juggling kids and travel. I found getting a smaller camera helped me use it more. Easier to strap around your neck when you pair it with a prime. Id rather lose a tiny bit of image quality or function than lose the desire to take the shot. 👍
Watched again for the second time, thank you.. If video and cost are not considered is there a reason to get the CII over the CR version? Really trying to decide on which to get. I’m wondering if it didn’t hit the focus on the batter because they were mostly wearing white? That would be my guess, after watching the rest of the video. Still really good. I think I’m going to jump from canon to Sony. I’ve held out because I have so much canon stuff.
My question is that if I buy A7Cmark 2, will I be able to rely on the view finder to the point where I would not need to use LCD screen to make changes? I have hard time reading fine print from that close. If I need to use LCD, than I rather get ZVE1.
Yes, the view finder is fine. I’ve been shooting with it for a week now. I had the same concern. I don’t shoot with the LCD, unless I’m shooting video.
canon did this with r6ii and r8 for $1500. sony is overpricing this a7cii and makes it not worth it for the extras you get from the a7iv. a very bad move from sony.
Outstanding review as always, hey jared i am a travel and sport photographer and i want to upgrade my gear, currently i am using the sony a7ii with the 28-70 kit lens, viltrox 85mm and tamron 70-300. My main problem with my a7ii is i can't focus at low light and the burst shooting is only 5 fps, based on your review the sony a7cii have a good auto focus but it only shoot up to 10fps, i am also considering the canon r6 paired with the EF 24-70 F2.8 and the EF 70-200 f2.8 ii which one do you think is better? Should i go sony or canon???
Considering I did a side by side comparison of the X-H2S vs the A7 IV - it had better be loads more better than the A7C II. This is all marketing hype - reality does not line up with the UA-cam reviews.
I'm so honestly it's still have a blackout like my DSLR I thought they got rid of the blackout to where it could take pictures and not blackout I see that one doesn't and I'm trying to think what was Sony thinking

The biggest drawback for this camera for me is no true mechanical shutter. Why sell all these great lenses like the 24/35/50 f1.4 GM with incredible bokeh if it is compromised using the first curtain shutter? So lame.
Software features that can be added to A7m4 without any issues.(Even "AI" AF) But no... Typical Sony In near future there will be shutter release by subscription. 60$ per month with count limit
That is weird that they make 7m4 so outdated and don't want to update it. In 2024-25 they will release 7m5 with AI AF and 7stop IBIS when every one around have it. That will be meh release.
What needs to be fixed: eye cup option for evf, fully articulating screen (a7v), dual card slots, ( even microSD like Jared suggested). Also wtf is going on with those abysmal e-shutter speeds? Cmon Sony .

Do a shoot out with the R8
Yes, Sony (and also Panasonic) makes Tv's but they don't make panels that are used in those Tv's. They buy them from LG.
No link provided to the A7CR review as he promised to do. Nothing in the description.
canon did this with r6ii and r8 for $1500. sony is overpricing this a7cii and makes it not worth it for the extras you get from the a7iv. a very bad move from sony.
Sony can put AI Tech in this smaller body but not the AIV?
yes, sounds like what Sony does. They dont care about customers :>
Just get a Sony a7iii in the meantime and rock out w that bro🤙🏾
@@yessum6477 thanks for the advice i appreciate it
r8 has the same focus system as r6ii which is slightly better than r6.
Considering I did a side by side comparison of the X-H2S vs the A7 IV - it had better be loads more better than the A7C II. This is all marketing hype - reality does not line up with the UA-cam reviews.
I like the potential micro sd card slot hint for a different camera about to come out
I guess that a7cii does not have ”pixel shift multi shot”?
Because the first dozen videos of this camera does not say that it doesn’t have it…
I'm so honestly it's still have a blackout like my DSLR I thought they got rid of the blackout to where it could take pictures and not blackout I see that one doesn't and I'm trying to think what was Sony thinking
Why did you take pics of Ohtanii?
I don’t understand the price is the same than the Alpha 7IV with (more or) less advantages…
I was looking for a second camera for street photography but the price stops me…
The only camera I see myself upgrading to at all is either a Sony a7v or a Sony a1 or the next version of the A1
May I ask the reason why?
@@berlyn_people are all fucked up with the AI and focus points shit. I’m still using the original A7R and I took outstanding photos here in China, although my camera is slow af and doesn’t have Eye AF
@@berlyn_I’m going to buy the A7R IV this summer since it’s now costing 1880€ at Fnac. But I’d never waste 3000€ on the A7RV just because of a few useless features and AI that will make me lose very few less shots.
I’d get the original A7C instead, considering how cheap they are at the moment.
I have the original and this new camera adds MANY upgrades. Will cost you more yes. Just the addition of front dial and 10 bit 422 is huge never mind the better autofocus and new AI chip!
New lens coming.. Its bino electronic lens BEL. 5 MM 1200MM LENGTH IS 6 INCHES ONLY. F 2 UPTO FULL ZOOM..WEIGHT ONLY 600GRAMS MFD BY SONY...40mm filter thread
So conclusion is, if you really don't have a camera of this quality at the moment... go for the A7C ii?
The lack of dual card slots holds me back.
🤓
I used a 7C professionally for a year and never lost an image.
@@riparianlife97701i never lost an image in 5 years but still domt want to take the risk
@@riparianlife97701 ... it won't happen...until it does and loses you your memories from a wonderful day of shooting on a trip or a client's images... not worth the risk in my opinion. ... and I think it's artificial (as is the LCD/EVF quality), done to keep these bodies from encroaching too much into the sales of the A7VI and A7R5.
@@riparianlife97701 that’s lucky.
The Sony a7cii 7k downsampled 4k as well? The Sony a7CR has worse autofocus I thought they would add the lates 759 area detect. 😢
Really? Both cameras have millions of autofoucus pixels! 759 or 653, are just the selectible points to manage the autofocus. Both cameras have class-leading autofocus.
@@wordlv the new canons have the class leading autofocus with full sensor autofocus.
@@truthseeker6804 autofocus is stills and video Sony is the class leader
@@wordlv search for a6700 vs canon r7 by tony northrup, the canon r7 autofocus was better and had more images in focus.

The price makes it a hard sell imo, the Canon r6m2 is about the same refurbished and is better
right. the r6ii was already a better camera than the a7iv. this a7cii shouldve been competition with the r8.
@@truthseeker6804 100% I would consider it at that price, but lack of duel card slot for the same price as a better camera makes it just a bad but unless your locked in don't ecosystem and even then just wait till the a7v comes
You buy lens system. Not a camera.
Camera brand that BLOCK third party lens brands and use monopoly to overprice their products is not an option.
@@severgun you buy both a camera and a lens. Most people only need 2-4 lenses, there's RF and EF lenses. But I can agree Canon should either allow third party or make more lenses.
I wouldn't buy third party even if it existed as you get less capabilities, example with sony you don't get the highest fps for photos.
@@truthseeker6804 'Money is not a promblem' people are not participants in this discussion. Buy Canon. Pay x3 price.
man you got a nice monitor
You know what annesley I've been watching your reviews for a long time and I honestly had to say you don't have no chill when a camera is crappy but it's just funny cuz it seem like they put all that technology in that camera and it's still miss the homerun I'm disappointed you know what I did a couple of shoots with my 80D at a football game. And even in low-light I didn't miss a shot placing my autofocus points where I needed them with perfect and did you know that the 80d separate is focus points from vertical to horizontal but the good news is I love it when you do these reviews to the cameras because eventually I'll be able to afford that 90d because the more they come out with cameras and more than 90 D is going on sale and then I'll have two of the awesome last DSL ours in the world and I'll be legendary keep going with your reviews I like them
I'm waitting for this 😂
I think this is overpriced, it should be $2k usd. I have the a7c and want to upgrade but I think the a7CR is priced more fairly.
Both are not worth the upgrade to be honest! these youtubers keep saying the new model is better because they get free stuff etc
a7iv still better bro
Not bad, but I still love Canon.
Tell me why. I’ve never used them
@@themondoshow autofocus is better, locks on your subject quicker
Touch screen focus though
Make a soup with that autofocus and drink that. But remember there is nothing else on that soup
The biggest drawback for this camera for me is no true mechanical shutter. Why sell all these great lenses like the 24/35/50 f1.4 GM with incredible bokeh if it is compromised using the first curtain shutter? So lame.
Mind you, no pro will take this camera to shoot sports.
After looking this video i'm glad that I shoot nowadays with Canon.
Software features that can be added to A7m4 without any issues.(Even "AI" AF) But no...
Typical Sony
In near future there will be shutter release by subscription. 60$ per month with count limit
Now have to decide if we get one of these A7C''s or wait for the A7 mark 5 that will probably come out in 2024 with all the advanced features.
Or wait even more for A7VI 😁
That is weird that they make 7m4 so outdated and don't want to update it.
In 2024-25 they will release 7m5 with AI AF and 7stop IBIS when every one around have it. That will be meh release.
This camera should have been cheaper! 1200 dollars tops...
Noooo not the AI FOCUS 😊
What needs to be fixed: eye cup option for evf, fully articulating screen (a7v), dual card slots, ( even microSD like Jared suggested). Also wtf is going on with those abysmal e-shutter speeds? Cmon Sony .
Nice, but too pricey.
Sounds to me like I'm switching to Canon and buying a Canon R8... only waiting for the autofocus comparison between the Sony A7cII and the Canon R8 to confirm
Damn! I'm considering the opposite due to the lack of third party lens : I'd be so happy to buy one or two of the fantastic compact Sigma or Tamron 2.8 lens around 1000 EUR / USD, or the Tamron 35-150 f2-2.8 whereas on Canon, you have to pay 2500 or more! You're lucky to be on Sony... Even if I perfer Canon bodies.
@@pierre3077 same, I was on canon M mount with my old EF glass and was gonna buy an R8, but picked up a used a7c because of their locked mount...now planning on selling that and getting the A7c mark II, No way am going back to canon.
The poor evf and lcd are are a dealbreaker for me. This aint acceptable in 2023
I’ve been shooting it for a week. They are both fine.
@@bobdrawbaugh4207 Nah unacceptable. sony fucked up
Max shutter speed 1/4000 and worst flash sync speed definitely not worth it for photography.
Would the a7c ii be good for shooting semi professional porn? I want it to look like a “home video” but with really good quality.
Still the crappy LCD screen , do better Sony, time to catch up with Canon etc when it comes to the back LCD screen
Not a fan of the form either but that is just my taste , rather have the dslr form Canon etc does but for people that want a ff camera thag is really small this is a golf chpice
And sony manufacture lcd tv's, pity they don't plonk in a high res screen.
❤🎉
hello mr fro
How can it be better than the a7 series? The c does not replace it. You should do more research.
Ok. The c doesn't replace it but ADDS to what the a7 IV has. It's the same exact specs but now includes the a7rV's AI processor. The body is more limiting, but the internals are a step up from the a7 IV...
@@froknowsphoto Nope. You've fallen for the Sony marketing and buzzwords. Stop hyping things up just because they are "new". Any minor difference is negligible. They are the same generation. a7c for smaller body, a7 for no compromise full size. Simple as.

Evf and lcd is crap and no 4k@60 in FF and 10fps 💩? I would rather just buy canon r8 or r6
If a person want a premium compact full frame camera. What canon model would they buy? Canon doesn’t have anything for these people to buy. It’s not the R8!
