    I've got to admit that I'm pretty fatigued from building Star Wars kits, but seeing this build you've convinced me that I need to find this kit :) I think that the comic book store still has one? It was really cool to see what the differences were between this limited edition and the standard kit, as I've been pretty curious about that. I really loved the chipping effect that you added to this model, I really love how fine it looks for the scale and certainly adds some realism to the model. I've been messing around with chipping and Mr Hobby Masking Sol NEO, but it's pretty hard for me to get the chipping proper in 72nd scale so I'll have to gove this a try.

      Blissmonkey thanks for the compliment. I use a Badger Patriot 105 airbrush for most of my work. Other supplies I’d recommend; mig Ammo’s Starship wash and odorless thinner. Mr Hobby’s glosscoat spray and Qtips. Let me know if you have any other questions.

  • @EvilKiwiFruits
    @EvilKiwiFruits 5 років тому

    Looks great! I’m about to weather mine and was wondering if I can use a tamia flat coat after using the pigments for scorch marks or will that smudge the powder? I know I should paint and gloss coat, then decals and panel line. How should I finish it off?

    • @InterstellarModeler
      @InterstellarModeler  5 років тому

      You can use a flat coat, in fact I'd recommend it in order to keep the pigments in place. The trick is to apply light coats and don't hold the airbrush (or spray can) too close. If you're applying with an airbrush I would try Vallejo's matte medium. The stuff can be thick so make sure you thin it with acrylic thinner. Also make sure you clean out your airbrush immediately after using it because it can goop things up a bit if left to stand inside the airbrush. One other suggestion, think about using a Tamyia Weathering kit for the scorch marks. It can be a little easier to apply, more control and tend to be less affected when applying the dull coat. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching and for your compliment.

      @@iteachvader You might be able to. The nice thing about the battery/LED they provide is that it fits right into the back very easily. One would be able to wire into the model but it's nice that battery/LED allows the model to be unattached to any switch. One thing you could do is apply Tamyia's clear orange paint to the bulb and to the clear plastic rods the light feeds through to make them look more orange. I'm sure you'd do fine putting the kit together. If you want to experiment first, try one of the other Bandai kits like the Snowspeeder. Not sure how long you've been building models, but you really should assemble as much as possible before priming/painting the exterior so you don't have to deal seams after paint. This can really turn into a pretty deal especially if you are mixing custom colors. Other than that, it turned out pretty good. After seeing this video it makes me want to get one just to figure out how to do a full light up.
    For the "Q-Tips", you can find pointed cotton swabs in the makeup section at Walmart, Walgreens, CVS, Dollar General, pretty much any store that has a makeup section

      He's been in the hobby for at least 6 years based off this channel, painting before sealing really is a matter of opinion. I prefer to do my painting before because there are times when you have sandwitched pieces which would be a pain in the ass to mask off once you seal them in. This kit has pieces like that which are that sand blue color

    • @GryphonArmorer
      @GryphonArmorer 5 років тому

      John Spradley. It's kind of hard to tell how long someone has been building models judging by how long they've been posting model building content. I've been building models off & on for the better part of thirty years, yet I have no content on my channel yet (not of my work anyway). I do however plan on posting some soon.
      And I did say, "should..... assemble as much as possible". Key phrase, as possible, to avoid having to fill a seam, sand all that work off an try to match colors. Obviously there are times where not fun masking will have to be done or even sanding and re-painting. Been there, done that and often sat back and looked at it later & reflected to realize I could have done that totally different/better. I've watched many of his videos and generally enjoyed them. Sometimes I learn different/better ways of doing something, and sometimes offer, what is intended to be constructive criticism.
      Well, I guess I'll leave it at this. Hopefully sooner than later (by the end of this month) I'll finally have a video or two of one of my upcoming builds. Feel free to check it out and commence to ripping me a new one on all that I could have done differently. 😉😜🤣. If you like, or don't like.

    Dont abandon the idea! Your over complicating it (it happens) ,save the Fiber optic cable for external ship lights. Simple Solution :
    Just tone down the Smd led brightness reduce its voltage if possible by a resistor OR Go the easy rout, a drop of "stick glue" in front of the LED or on it. Airbrush very lightly Dont "coat it " mist it.

    • @InterstellarModeler
      @InterstellarModeler  4 роки тому +1

      Both can work....I like the look of the salt technique especially if you grind the salt to a finer consistency, the chips can turn out smaller. Something that can look more in scale with these smaller model kits.

    • @InterstellarModeler
      @InterstellarModeler  4 роки тому +1

      Hi, no worries...you'll find that glue isn't really necessary for most of this build. That's one cool thing about Bandai kits, they fit tightly together and rarely require adhesive. I would recommend getting a hold of some plastic model cement if you want to have some glue on hand. The problem with using crazy glue is if by chance you make a mistake, it will be difficult to undo since it adheres so quickly. Hope that helps and feel free to ask any other questions. Thanks for watching.

      Ah I see & yeah I ordered Tamiya cement glue but that’s coming in towards the end of the month -__-

    • @InterstellarModeler
      @InterstellarModeler  4 роки тому +1

      @@Zhinister You can definitely start and just see how you feel as you put the smaller pieces together. I don't remember using any glue on this model although it has been a while. I think you'll be fine. One other note about Krazy glue. I prefer using the gel formula if I do use it. It does have its uses from time to time. The gel formula won't run as quickly, you'll have more control with application.
