Your rockers are the exact same as my 69 Nova even the internal brace at the front is the same ..... Yes lots of spot weld removal and thinking on which way to go with it .... well you have it braced up big time so no worries on anything moving on you .... I started with the inside first and left the top structural part of the outer on until inner was fully in place and now I am into bracing my inside all up ...... Good luck with it Roger and I am sure you will get it all figured out and back together ...... I am just suprized on how Camaro and Nova are so similar in so many ways Cheers from Canada
I had the same situation when I did the Rockers in the chevelle up front. I just used a cold chisel and on my back whacked the heck out of it. I welded from inside the kick panels. This is a labor of love guy lol I wouldn't splice and dice up front though the rocker base is a major support for the door. I just welded on one side at the pillar on the bottom and after a couple years that weld cracked. I had to put a steel piece on it to strengthen it. Your doing an amazing job ;) keep it up
Roger, your journey is very fascinating to follow. We have a 1970 Camaro that we are in the initial phase of restoring. Been watching Russ over at RR Restorations and he gave you a shout out, so have been watching you also. Both of you have provided a wealth of information about these Camaros and I've purchased the Body by Fisher assembly book, in addition to the actual Chevy assembly manual that was used on the plant floor. Am looking forward to part 2 on the rocker surgery. Thanks, Bob

rindress measurements are for sissies, I just wing it , lol , no I scribe lines where the original parts were and with all the bracing I shouldn't have any issues , part will either fit or I will make it fit ;)

On that front part, there are also welds from the kick panel on the inside of the car. I drilled those from the inside of the car straight through the rocker and re-welded the new one from the inside of the car. Those 3 welds you see looking up into the front weld to the door hinge support. To get to that area, I had to cut out the door frame just below where the hinge bolts up, install the rocker and then weld the piece I cut out back over top. If I can dig up some pictures I try to send them to you.

Yup, thats the stiffener I was telling you about in a previous video. They don't reproduce that to my knowledge, but there is a guy that manufactures them and sells on ebay. My first question would be how did they weld those three tabs for the rocker, did they go through the inside of the kick panel? Did they use little kids to get their tiny hands in there? Your best bet might be just to cut that little tab off and weld it to the one in place, nobody would be none the wiser, only you would know as well as nearly 2000 subscribers that you used the tried and true "short cut" to get your rocker panel in. Am I saying that is wrong, no, not at all, you are the one who has to live with knowing you weren't able to get that extra 6-7 inches of old material off the car (guilt tripping you) and just welded your new sheet metal to the old cut off stuff you were looking to get rid of. I guess you have to ask yourself the question, what would Double R do? If it were me, I would study the problem and find the solution that aligns best with my objective, which would be getting that old metal off and stabbing in the new stuff! They welded it in there in 1967, has to be a way for you to do it too.
MrFireman164 You guys made me laugh. Great vid Roger. I'm sure you will figure out the best solution. I agree, I would rather have the spot welds vs a welded seam inside the rocker. I bet some grinding and an air hammer that front piece would come out. As for welding the new one in, if needed you could always cut an access place from inside and seam seal from the kick panel hole. At least the weld area would be on an interior panel. Btw nothing wrong with another project overkill. Lol

Those scraps of metal inside the rear of the rocker are the remnants of about a 12" support brace that gets sandwitched between the 2 rockers.
