Oh Man I just can not believe that crap! It is really good that you found that! Can you just imagine the damage and injuries that could have happened if someone hit that car head on? That tunnel would have done a lot of damage! Great work by the way and enjoying your videos!

That's why you need to watch out who you send your car to and good on you for telling the owner that it was tacked together I would send my car to you for some fabrication work 👍

I'm glad you saw it. Just think, if you all didn't suggest smoothing the firewall, you'd have never found it and then if the new owner had a problem, he'd have thought YOU were the Hack....Whew!
Have to remember back in the day there was no aftermarket full floor pans. these cars were daily drivers & even the equipment wasn't available. Nobody ever figured these cars would be worth anything 50 years later. That's just the way they fixed them to keep driving till they broke. Same goes for aftermarket radios, speakers,etc. they all got hacked in some way or another.
True, but these were aftermarket panels. Not refitted originals. This car was sold to me with all new sheet metal installed. I had to redo all of it. The guy that did it was just trying to make a buck off of a quick turn hack job.

So you turn up the heat a bit and do what we call Plug welds to get the floor pan welded to the hearty Sub frame material correctly I like to have another guy around so he can apply down force with a screw driver or something when I'm going heavy plug welds

Sad part is how unsafe it would have been in an accident.

I think if I'm ever in the position to have a car Restored I'll be giving you a CALL !! Most body shops & Mechanic shops I've used in the past had varying degrees of B.S. they were trying to pull from being dishonest to down right incompetent!

Have a question - I see the oval holes in the floor of the car.... I'm frame off restoring my 72 Cutlass Supreme Convertible and after sanding, media blasting and painting the body in primer I'm now applying seam filler on the body. In the floor are 7 oval holes and 2 small round holes and I'm about to install the small pans that were in there. Just don't know for sure which way should go up or down. Can you show a picture maybe of such a small pan installed the right way? Thanks!! Louis
I don't have a picture, sorry. But if memory serves, I believe the dished part goes down. They did this to help make the bottom of the car more even, and it also helped to keep water out. I would apply a sealer, and installthem like that. Then from underneath, you can reseal, and/or undercoat if that's the plan.

How hard would it be to remove the cowl? Will I have to do the firewall too?
You should be able to leave the firewall in place. The hard part is separating the welds.

+hedw30 Hello, I would say my first choice is AMD if it's available. Then Dynacorn. Not a fan of goodmark. I've bought AMD panels that turned out to be Dynacorn, but that is okay.

I've had my 69 for 30 yrs getting ready to repair guarter panel watching videos. Retired , lot of time to fix now.

Car was going to kill somebody! Even a few tucker pops would of been stronger! If you don't know then you really ought to get somebody who does. Some food and beer will secure good advice from a car guy, it's even sometimes harder to keep them away!

I am a forty plus year veteran of collision and restoration and I too did a remake or should I say take over / redo on a 1968 Camaro nightmare.... I feel bad for you

Everyone has different ideas of fixing/reparing vehicle instead bashing previous owner in every video you should educate the rest how to do right job
64impalaSS I only bash when it's deserved. This car was butchered, and many things were hidden in an effort to get rid of it and turn a quick buck. The reality is this happens far too often, and in the case of the floor pans/mount structure, it could have lead to certain death. I actually try to go out of my way to show what I feel is the right way. I appreciate your comment.
