Years ago, after reading something about Lindley's joke about the All Rubber Revue (musicians onstage in masks and flippers, if I recall). I sent him an e-mail and mentioned it, and he actually responded. We got to meet him once and took a picture. What a great guy, and what a great musician. RIP, Mr. Lindley.
Yeah, I miss David a lot. I got to meet and talk with him at a gig once, where I had a pair of teenagers with me who were budding musicians and so David and Wally gave the kids drumsticks and snare brushes and guitar picks and autographed their shirts. Kind and generous people, the both of them. Otis Gibbs posted a heartfelt tribute to David when he died; And Lindley's good friend Henry Kaiser posted a wonderful memorial to him featuring never before seen home movies of their trip to Madagascar to record with the local indigenous musicians. Both videos are on UA-cam.
They were second cousins. Linda said about him in an interview, " but, god, he's brilliant; I can come to him with any idea, no matter how strange and weird, and he will know exactly how to embellish it".
