Hands down this is the best squash recipe 💯💯💯. Please don't hesitate to try it. I have had some squash growing up my great grandma use to cook it all the time but this is definitely my go to recipe. Thank you Ray Mack. Keep the videos coming. Blessings to you and your family 🙏🏾.
@@RayMacksKitchenandGrill You're Welcome. I have been following your cooking videos since your cube steak video with the Campbell's Soup Beefy Mushroom. My husband and kids love it.
My go to recipe. I cooked this about 5 times already. I ran out of grease and substituted with Olive oil and it still tasted great! The sugar is optional, but it does give it an even better unique taste. 10/10
Y’all I did this followed exactly what he said & it came out so good. Like me & family are addicted. They never liked it until I made this for them. Y’all please make it. Thank you so much for sharing this
I wish I would of seen your comment at he grocery store today. I should of go/en zucchini. I'm editing this recipe since I'm Vegan. I forgot the parsley now that I'm watching this. But I ran out money because I went grocery SHOPPING, my back hurts carrying in all the grocery by myself (not waiting for my boyfriend to go there passed 8pm, I went at 9am this morning but got home around 12:30 because I was not crossing the street off the bus with all the reusable bags, 2 Gallons of soy milk and so much heavy stuff while high risk pregnant...I feel like a super hero today, I know you do not care about my ramblings
Mainstay of any southern kitchen! I love this dish so much I watch others cook it. A dash of nutmeg was the addition my generation added. And we were more likely to stir in some cornbread crumbs, (pepperidge farm's fine) an egg, cream, stir, into casserole and top with more crumbs before baking till lightly brown. Previous generations canned it, making it available to eat at dinners year round. Thanks so much for making this. I sure will be eating a bunch soon as the garden starts putting out the squash. We ate it all summer fresh with other garden crops, corn on cob, cukes with onions and tomatoes (like your recipe), okra, purple hull peas, green beans, and watermelon. It didn't matter if we had fried chicken, gumbo, etc. We always had a rotation of those veggies in summer. Our eggplant went into the casserole with shrimp and cheddar. Cantaloupe were for breakfast. That used up our whole garden! I have seen you cook so many of the same things we do, I think we are cousins! LOL Love to your family! Stay safe everyone!...and keep praying up! 🙏🏻
YES! My mom used to fix this and I've TRIED, but I just can't master it! Thanks SO much for this recipe. When I saw you add the sugar, I KNEW this is the one to try! Much Love!
This looks so good! I made something similar in my cast iron skillet last night. All of the spices are the same but I did asparagus and onion instead of squash. Put on top some grilled porterhouses. ❤️ It was 🔥
Looks really good. I am not a cook but started dabbling a little in the kitchen. Love soul food. I inhabit the South. We shall rise again through food and tradition. Life is about this stuff.
I've been doing it all wrong. But it was still good. I would boil it first then fry it with eggs. Since I saw how you prepared it. This is my go to recipe from now on my family loves the way it taste. Thanks for sharing. I appreciate you. Stay safe stay blessed💖☺
Wow those squash and onions really look delicious and I am not going to leave those pork chops out my lord thanks for sharing love yall have a bless week stay safe💙✌
Gonna try your recipe. Just got some beautiful squash from a friend. The seasoning you put in there looks like it definitely makes the difference. Thank you for posting
Luv the use of bacon grease! Mom always kept it near the stove. - Great squash!! I make it like that but now am going to add those spices you used. Thanks! Great vid!
Chef Ray another awesome, easy to prepare recipe. Your channel is great thank you for all your hard work preparing. Such awesome meals. I have tried several of your recipes, each one was a home run. Oh one more quick note, adding a little sugar was definitely a level up. Thank again. G.Singleton
Oooo...This is one of my all time favorite recipes to cook & eat. My mama, born, raised in Amory MS and could cook and feed you until your belly hurt. YUMMIEST EVER! Please try!
That squash is some good old southern-made veggies, mix with some zucchini for some added color too. I could eat squash and onions every day. Thank you, Ray.
That looks good! My favorite sides are definitely Mac & Cheese, Grits & Cheese, Fried Okra, Dressing, and Collard Greens. Sometimes Baked Beans when there's a bunch of smoked meat in there. We always made fried/roasted squash here in NY but we never stewed it down for the liquid to come out like that and rarely added onions, and I'm definitely gonna give this one a shot!
I used this recipe last night and they were so good!!!! I couldn't make squash right for anything. I see I added water when I shouldn't have and cooked them too long. THANK YOU!!!!!!!
Wow. I just picked some yellow squash from my garden yesterday...guess what I'm going to make tonight...lol. Thanks for the recipe. Can't wait to try it.

Thanks for showing us your take on squash and onions. I am sure that using leftover oil from frying chicken would add a ton of flavor to this, along with the other spices. I have a sweet tooth as I am sure you know, so I would definitely add the bit of sugar, haha. It looks like they were the perfect addition to an already great meal. Thanks for sharing!
