Hi Miss Chris ... I have never cooked squash before I'm from New Orleans and I do cook quite a bit but I've just never cooked that particular vegetable I ran across your recipe I modified it a little bit I fried some bacon and then sauteed my onions in that bacon grease but I followed everything else just as you instructed.. it was absolutely amazing my husband was quiet and all I could hear was the fork scraping the plate ... he complimented me later for a great meal ..I thank you so much for your direction and helping me add another item to my menus I enjoy your channel thank you so much for being you... you are an amazing cook
I don’t eat squash and have never cooked them UNTIL now. My mom’s not feeling well and she had hopes of cooking squash. I’ve done that for her thanks to you, Ms. Chris!
I had some summer squash and was looking for a simple way to cook it. That's how I came across your channel. Thank you very much you helped me throw together a quick and successful Easter dinner!
Chris this is the first time I have commented but I love your receipes. I have been watching for 4 years. I can always come to you when I remember a dishes my grandmother cooked but can't quite remember all of the ingredients. Thanks so much for this channel. Please don't stop cooking.
I feel the same way as this. Tried to remember and tried it on my own, didn’t work out quite like I’d like so I looked it up and found this video and my brother just told me “good job! That tastes like Grandma use to make.” So I’m very thankful for this video!!😁😀
Thank you for sharing your videos. My mother taught about cooking but so stuff I don't catch b4 she passed away. You and my mom have similar style and I love it. Be encouraged.
I have loved! your channel from the first time I found you. You cook VERY! Similar to how I and my family generation has grew up eating. Makes ya wanna cry, and rock yourself to sleep, cause you're full! happy! and know you just ate some love. Thank you and Stay blessed sweetheart.
Wow, what a great teacher you are. That looks delicious. The only thing I’d do differently is add my minced garlic later in the process as some of the healthy compounds in garlic can be destroyed by heat and also I’ve heard the high heat can make garlic a little bitter. Making this tonight! Thank you. 😀
Newby gardener here-(with bumper yellow squash crop!) I was a bit leary about starting a 14min. long video on cooking squash but it was the most interesting and entertaining vid. I’ve watched in quite a while. Awesome -Thanks you so much!👍-my research is done-time to prep😀
My mother whose gone to be with the Lord use to make this dish. I loved it but forgot how to make it until now. Thank you Chris for bring this back to me.
Hello, Sister Chris 😊 I don't know if I 've commented before, but I just love You and Your cooking tutorials. You cook a lot like my Dear Mom, Violar cooked (rest her Soul) Mother of 12 and I am the baby at 68 yrs old myself now. I come to You for guidance and reminders on how to prepare those Down home Staple dishes such as this one. Because even though I paid attention and watched Mama prepare those delicious dishes, I now wish I had paid Greater attention. So I thank You so very much for being here for us. God Bless You and All those You Hold Dear. And Happy Blessed 2023🙏💖
While getting my car serviced recently, I met a young pregnant lady who just happened to ask me for down home cooking tips. She wanted to surprise her hubby with a home cooked meal. I gave her some tips and since I'll probably never see her again, I told her that your channel is the best. She pulled your channel up on her phone as we waited and was so excited. She said after talking to me and watching you,she felt more confident in her ability to cook the dishes that her hubby likes.
Okay, this video is 2yrs old but I wanted to comment on this one. I grew up eating this dish. It's a very delicious dish but I must differ on it being called a saute. It is a stewed squash dish. My folks always used the grease rendered from fried salt cured bacon or fat back. They would never have used garlic in it at all. I love this dish but rarely get it because I can't physically cook anymore and no one else eats this in my house. Chris,I love you honey. Keep up the good work and may our Heavenly Father watch over you and yours.
I love love squash. I learn to love it because my grandmother always had some when we visited her in North Carolina. I miss her she went to the lord in 1994 at age 95.
LOL - I was about to say the same thing. So many people don't like squash (or don't THINK they like squash). It was my grandmother who developed my love for squash - and all vegetables - when I was very young. This is a great recipe here. Thanks for sharing.
I LOVE your video and cooking style. There is something about your advice that really worked/improved how I usually do things- cutting the onions (leaving them long) as you did, sauteing the onions with oil AND BUTTER, then putting it over the yellow squash, & seasoning with pepper. Since I have trouble with salt, I used parmasan cheese instead. Anyway, I found your video inspirational and look forward to checking out your other recipes and the way you prepare things.

Big boy from Texas says: thank you, sweetie! Loved your squash. Fed it to my family, they loved it.
i was so glad when you came back and said this is how you cut the squash because i am one of those people who didn’t know lol 😂 thank you so much for sharing !
Ms Chris! This is why I love you and your cooking so much! You make everything quick, simple and so easy to understand. I feel as though you and I are joined at the hip! Take care, and God bless!🙏🏾❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you for coming back to show how to cut it! I’m 48 years old and cooking(cutting) squash for the first time. (My dad was allergic to squash, I was never exposed to it.)
I just finished cooking my squash and I wanted to check out youtube for other ways of cooking yellow squash. You cooked it exactly the way I did except for one thing. I didn’t add garlic. I like garlic but it doesn’t like me. But still I really don’t understand why you wanna change the flavor with the garlic. I enjoyed watching you cook it the way you did. So many young women today have either forgotten or never knew how to cook squash. Thank you for showing everyone how simple it truly is. Mines fresh from our garden. Cooking some okra to go with it. Yummy 😋 👍😊👍
During these unimaginable times with no visitors and food wasting in the fields I looked for comfort food and of course there you were! Love the way your squash looks. Looks like Mama's. He safe and God bless.
Thank you for keeping this recipe simple/ This is exactly ;how my mom use to make it, but I could not remember how. It's delicious just like this. Thank you
you are a wonderful cook you have kept my family well satisfied with your dishes thank your time we appreciate you greatly, your biggest fan and God bless.
Nice, just picking my squash now, maybe a little late. But, I appreciate you doing this tutorial. I like growing things but don't always know what to do with them. Please keep up the good work. God Bless.
Thank you Chris I really enjoy all your videos you've helped me a great deal anytime I'm at a loss of how to fix something I automatically think of you
Guess what! I tried your recipe today, and it came out wonderfully, thank you. I made squash, cornbread, and three type of party wings, hot, fried, and baked. Thank you so much it was delicious
Great recipe. As a child I had a squash dish was made like a sweet creamed corn casserole 🥘 and I had no idea it was squash. Let’s see you develop that concept madam Master Chef.
I love how you showed everything you did. Your videos are awesome and the food is good. Bless you and thank you. Looking forward to more of your recipes. Thank you
Oh, I hv 2 find me a jar of minced garlic. Thanks 4 the tutorial. My Mom use 2 fry crook neck squash. I never liked it as a kid but since I'm much older now I'm WILLING 2 try ur recipe. And you said this side dish compliments grilled chicken & chicken rice. THANKS so MUCH.
Thank you for all your videos, and thank you for this instructional, easy-to-follow one! My sauteed squash turned out very delicious, so I appreciate it 🙏
Hi, I just came across this video, i was looking for a way to cook my squash from my garden. I cooked the same way as you showed, but i didnt use water. Thank you, it was incredibly delicious. :)
It Looks delicious!!! I cook mine the same way I fry some chopped up bacon pieces with it and add about a tablespoon of sugar while its cooking. The sugar takes the bitterness out.
Good cooking video Chris. I always like the squash and onions dish when I was down south. Now I can make it myself. Also liked the 1 onion for 3 squash , that was very helpful. Keep up the good work.
I bought some squash not knowing how to cook it or what it would taste like. This was the perfect side dish. Great video and easy to follow. Thank you ma'am.
I use sweet onions and the natural sugars of squash and onions is all the sweetness you need when you add the richness of the butter its absolute perfection. The the extra dose of sugar is overkill. The water ruims the natural flavors. Sometimes less is more.
Thank God You,,I always want to eat different vegetables other than what I eat all the time,,Your squash looks so delicious,,I will try it,,It is very easy to grow too and fast time,,,Thanks to you so much 😀,,Much Blessing and success to you...

I feel like mama is teaching me how to cook and it’s just the best thing ever, awesome video 💕

I cook my squash and onions the same, without adding the water. I've never added garlic before, but now I'm tempted. Thanks for sharing.
