      Yes when you look at yourself in the mirror your brain pays attention moretto the flows and when you look at other people it pays attention to strong parts. For example if you look at a dude with big traps but not that big of a chest you are going to be paying attention tot he big traps and that dude looks big to you and you are impressed by hes physiqe. If you are that dude however and look at yourself in the mirror you are going to pay attention to the not as big of a chest and see yourself as not that big and wont be that very happy with your physiqe. Dom Mazzeti said it best the day you start lifting is the day you will never be big enough.

    I've been working out for about 6 years and I agree with you on that point in particular: you reach a point where your motivation & goals change, it's so true. The progression tapers off - and you have to re-evaluate in order to keep on track. Those jumps you do - are seriously impressive. Most people with heaps of mass just wouldn't be able to make any of those - me included. So I totally get you and I think this is a great vid with really good measured advice. And from personal experience, as much as it feels mentally good to have a physique that I desired to have - it's never good enough in my own mind, and to be honest it's never made me happier as such. The things that have brought me happiness are simpler things like doing the things, the challenges that scare me.

    I used to be able to clean and jerk 315lbs and was really explosive I hit my legs hard like 4-5 times a week until I sprained my ankle pretty bad during soccer. After that, I now work on strengthening, mobilizing, bulletproofing, and explosiveness for my lower body and all the small muscles, joints, and ligaments most people tend to look over. You don't need crazy strong legs to have a good lower body. I'm now playing division 1 soccer for a really good school without killing my legs weekly.

    I officially hit 400 lbs on the seated leg press. I was able to manage one rep after 5 sets. 1st set was 300x6 reps, 2nd was 320x7, 3rd was 340x7, 4th was 350x7 and 5th was 370x6. Don't know if that's strong or not, but I'm 6'1" 200 pounds. My legs are perfectly proportional to my frame, but don't look like a body builder's. So I know the struggle. No matter how strong I get or how much I lift, my legs stay the same size. It sucks.
    He is wrong on one point. Hanging strength. Hanging strength comes from grip strength. Locking the bar and preventing it from rotating while doing a preacher curl will test your grip strength like no other. I currently preacher curl 125-135lbs inverted grip at 6 reps 5 sets depending on how good I'm feeling that day. I never let the bar rotate. So now my grip strength is god mode. I can hang almost indefinitely. Not one single man has been able to pry something from my grip. Learned this trick from old bodybuilder champion back in the 80's. Now I have to use straps or else the weight will rip the skin from my hands. Try it. Watch your grip get insanely strong.

    • @BenEcho
      @BenEcho  Рік тому +2

      I think you missed the point. This is a video teaching men that they don’t have to do weights to get big legs just because of the social pressure to have muscular legs. I explain that your leg training should align with your goals, not align with someone else’s expectations of body image. I stopped lifting and my legs shrunk but they also became more athletic because of the side effect of ninja warrior training, they aligned with my goals.

    • @vincent4778
      @vincent4778 Рік тому

      I understand what you’re saying, but if you for example train like an athlete for ninja warrior most of the time (4-5 days a week) and besides that you train legs ones a week with weights… i think that would be only beneficial. Ones a week is not much. I don’t think you need to be afraid of growing to big legs and it is also possible to train different. You could do powerlifting instead of doing many reps. That way, you purely focus on strength, not size. If you get stronger legs: you can jump higher and run faster. I think this would only help you in your ninja warrior training. Stronger, but not necessarily bigger… perfect for athletes, right?

First they have to balance and carry you around, but also support a good healthy alignment throught your body when walking and running. I dont get the fascination with chest
    Don't get me wrong a huge chest is cool
    But not to the detriment of a flabby stomach
    Weak legs
    Weak delts

    I've always said train to optimize your bodies natural athletic archetype. Acknowledging and accepting that is the first step. It took me eons to realize this but since I'm shorter with broad shoulders and a mid center of gravity I focus on working out like a shifty running back / pekaboo style boxer since that's my player build that the devs gave me. I've grown to get obsessed with explosive strength + fast twitch movements, momentum shifting, and mobility. I always think of it as how to maximize strength and conditioning. Certain workouts make more sense depending on your player build like for me excercise like trap bar dead lifts, neutral grip bench press, ladder drills and jump rope help optimize my body archytpe. Sure you can force it, but someone built for it will always have the edge. If we had a choice we'd all be built like young or old Kratos depending on your preference lol but life's a dice a game and you're assigned your character build from the beginning.

    That makes a lot of sense. You were going for functional strength. I would imagine you did a bunch of explosion exercises for your legs, so they were still very strong.

    You don’t have to lift legs if you sprint up hills as a workout for 30 min 2-3 times a week. I prefer this cause it’s both a leg & cardio workout

    I personaly cant really skip my leg days as I have naturaly small legs but pretty wide shoulders, arms, and neck so it just look odd. I know it cause when I was in my late teen/early 20's (first time I got in shape) I would purely focus on the upper body and ended up looking like I stole the legs from a dude 100lbs lighter than me when I ''peaked''.
    Then I started again about 6 months ago after after 5-6 years off the gym and even tho im not as in shape as I once used to be I really prefer the balanced look of everything growing at the same rate. Still even tho you did skip for 5 years keep in mind that despite not lifting heavy charges thus not constantly getting bigger your ''ninja warrior'' training CLEARLY kept your legs in very sharp shapes. You would most likely be able to make them bigger again MUCH faster than the average guy with small legs if you wished it.

    Lifetime 60 year old natty here. The secret is not heavy weights. Its multiple medium to light sets of 20 reps. For maintenance you can do heavy 1rms. The squats I’m talking about are from AtG to just before lockout. And the only rest is in the bottom position not at the top. They will grow. 20 is the magic number.

      Idk man I dont think performance in a niche sport is truly worth skipping training a significant amount of your body, avoiding being a well rounded athlete & having a horribly disproportionate body over. But thats just my opinion ig 🤷‍♂️
