And he could probably keep going after that, too. You can tell how much he loves her just by the way he looks at her, and (maybe I'm being too cheesy) it's so cute!
Cristine: podcasts are so easy there’s barely any editing Also cristine: *multiple camera angles including cat cam, adding screenshots from resume/cover letter/tweets etc., adding time stamps, related videos and articles in the description*
Victoria Ball I know I admire her so much for it! These side projects like holo taco and the podcast really seem to make her happy :) cristine got an insane work ethic
I was told a great way to respond to sexist “jokes” is to play dumb and ask them to explain the joke. Then watch them spiral when they try to explain themselves 😈
That is rather brilliant. Let them toungue twist on that. I hope to remember that when needed. Cause like Cristine said, I have the greatest comebacks 20 min after the fact. Sigh...
"Oh you're asking me if I'm going to college in order to find a husband? Why would I pay thousands of dollars to do that?" Lmao I'd like to see some dick try to explain themselves. I love this method!
This isn't about a job but on the subject of degrading sexism; When I was literally eleven years old I had a soar throat and went to the doctor for it. The doctor(who was a male) had to give me a throat swab and when I didn't gag he said something along the lines of, "Your future boyfriend is gonna be real happy." I had no idea what he meant and my mum was so upset. Looking back, it's so humiliating that no matter how professional a situation is people are still horrible enough to think of remarks like that.
I would like to hear from Ben how/why he went from being like “can I go now” whenever he was on camera to appearing regularly and now being part of a podcast lol maybe it was just natural but idk, I always wondered
@@simplypodlogical I know this isn't directed to me, but perhaps it would be interesting for you both to talk about your journies to becoming more comfortable in front of the camera? I would be very interested in seeing how you've both gained confidence since the beginning of your UA-cam channels, and how it differs from what you thought you may end up doing in life or how it differs from the careers and lives you had before fame? Whatever you choose to talk about, I will be very interested! -A loyal Holosexual 💿
@@simplypodlogical I'm curious about Ben's whole role in the Simply empire--it seems like he's pretty essential to the "business" aspects, and he's become more visible in videos. How did you both make the decision to involve him more, what were your feelings (including fears?) about working together, etc.
SimplyPodLogical how you feel about being on camera or maybe the motivation behind it and your other projects or for other youtubers? Like obviously it’s a hobby but when you sit and talk about serious issues, it feels like there’s an educational motivation behind it (as in my subscribers are young and surrounded by bad influence, I should try to be the voice of reason) and I always thought that maybe that’s one of the reasons why he became more comfortable with it? Or what you talked about with Philip defranco about people using UA-cam as a stepping stone for “bigger things” (as an example of motivation for other youtubers)
I had a chemistry teacher that told me "at least you'll be a good wife". I'm a Chemist and now a I give advice to the pharmaceutical industry. But he will always be an idiot
Once I was at an industry function and someone asked my boss if I was his wife (I work in a very male dominated field)... why yes of course there’s NO OTHER logical reason I would be here!? 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄
Being a good wife is so much harder than being a phD, and it's coming from me who has one. So, looking back you can take it as a compliment, because being a good spouse and maybe later a good parent is a difficult job that shouldn't be taken for granted :)
@@kath_erinelara Oh, no , I am not proud for being a good wife! I am a terrible one :) I feel much more comfortable in academia and in science. And that is my problem, because in real life you need all kinds of skills, has nothing to do with a view on the gender roles.
When I worked as a hostess at a restaurant, one day I had my hair in low pigtails. One of the male cooks gestured *revving* saying they were handle bars. I was so shocked and disgusted. I had told my female manager and next week when I came back to work he had been fired. Dont be afraid to tell someone incharge of an employee harassing you.
Im in thatvsituation currently and im not even at school anymore. I just graduated but i need this shitty job to have the money AND experience so i can move to a bigger city and work on what i want. And i can not complain :-)
I worked in a golf pro shop and the number of older males who would mock me, A- for not being interested in watching or playing golf, and B- for still aiming to get my BSc in Occupational Therapy which was such a foreign career and concept to then, pissed me off.
Bad news for Ben: Sexism is still alive and well. I work in a predominantly male field and am often overlooked because they assume I am "just the secretary".
Meneer Koekenpeer you’d be surprised. Just last year I had a boss who mocked my skin color and ethnicity. He also complained about the amount of women who worked in our department. I was told to grow thicker skin and leave if I couldn’t handle it. I did end up transferring out of pressure, only to hear about two months later that he was let go.
Same! I only like the option of having audio only podcasts through an app for when I’m trying to sleep or just need background noise but also so i can still be on my phone or when I’m driving and don’t want to watch something but def want to listen. I want all the things 😂
As a woman in the finance industry, I totally relate to Cristine’s story on the sexist lawyer. I worked on the phones for over a year and I would get talked down to by men on a regular basis. They would flirt with me, call me “sweetheart,” or sometimes ask to speak with a man. Even in my current position, a lot of my clients will email in using “greetings Gentlemen” as the introduction. Mind you, both men and women have done that! But at the end of the day, most of my colleagues and superiors are women, which is super empowering. And I’m treated well by my male counterparts. At the end of the day, that’s all I can ask for: to be an equal.
Sarah Boice i work in agriculture. THE AMOUNT OF OLD WHITE DUDES CALLING ME DARL. Stop it. Immediately. Plus none of them take me seriously as someone who has a brain and knows what I’m talking about ever. It’s so frustrating.
I've had similar experiences, sadly on more than one occasion. Assuming I'll do certain tasks because I'm a woman. Been "given the eye" in my very first interview age 18 while alone with a man old enough to be my grandfather. Told to go back to the kitchen and addressed indirectly (but in front of me) as a sweet thing with a horrible slimy wink following it 🤢 lucky I now work in a very inclusive company who doesn't stand for any form of sexist behaviour ☺️
I used to run the library in the municipality where I lived, which at 28 I would say is a pretty big deal. But because I am female the mayor would still call me "girl". It wasn't a conscious thing on his behalf, and when I told him I didn't appreciate it he made an effort to stop, though not because he understood why it wasn't okay. It was a small thing, but it was just one more thing that made me feel like I was climbing an uphill battle to prove my competence - simply because of my gender.
💯 Can relate! I get emails using "Hello Sir" as the greeting all of the time. It drives me crazy. When I used to be client facing I always got "Where's my smile?" or "What's a pretty girl like you doing in a place like this?" in addition to the nausea-inducing pet names. I would always correct them and somehow I looked like the a** for standing up for myself.
emilyh12 that’s the worst part! Somehow you’re the bitch because you don’t want to be belittled and treated like you’re an incompetent moron because you’re a woman.
TW When Cristine started to talk about her work ex with the lawyer, I instantly thought, "oh no, sexual harassment" and then she told that he was being sexist, and I thought, "oh, he was just being sexist". I think that goes to tell that as individuals, especially women, we face so many degrading and threatening incidents all the time, that we're just grateful that our problem is "smaller", or "not life threatening". When in reality, being mocked, undervalued, ignored or not taken seriously is not a small or acceptable behavior. We have not progressed as much as we'd like, tbh.
In regards to your relationship for next podcast: -What did your parents think of Ben/Cristine when they first met them? -How do you deal with the annoying marriage and kids questions not just from viewers but from people around you at work or family? -What were your first impressions of each other? -Where was your first date? -What annoys you most about each other and what is your favorite thing about each other?
When Ben talked about how being a “good worker” could lead to extra responsibility and a heavier workload I could relate. It feels like when you put in extra effort, your “reward” is more responsibility. When you can handle it, management will give you even more to see how you’ll cope. The expectations for your work ethic is now higher than others and if you don’t perform at your usual standard (which is still higher than others) then you’re slacking. :/
I hate this kinda, because it teaches you that if you work well you will be punished with more work (not a promotion), my work ethic is that I will do my job and I used to love helping others but now I'm certainly more hesitant and I give some kick back if I think I'm doing someone else's work
My former boss told me that he gave me more work because he knows I can handle it. I suck it up and completed each tasks he gave me. But in the end, he didn’t promote me, reason being: he didn’t promote me because he knows I can handle the disappointment better. I replied: Fuck you. Then reported to the HR, and quit. The one month notice period before my last day was amazing, I only did the minimum work and took day offs for job interviews as well. They were and still in trouble because all the good ones were mistreated and left the company.
I've been working for a grocery store chain for a bit over two years now, and even though I have been promoted to management, the scheme Ben was talking about definitely still exists. I have a second manager at night and one other part-timer to close the whole department, but since they have two managers they expect higher sales and a lot of work done by the end of the day. So the nights management gets yelled at, but we close out eyes on people just leaning on counters for hours during day shifts...now we're both reaching a point of not giving a sh*t anymore
I recently quit a job I loved due to the fact that I just couldn't tolerate this kind of stuff anymore. I worked harder and had more responsibilities than anyone else but they were hiring new people (that I had to train) who were getting paid $1.50/hr more than I was... I've heard it said, "people don't quit jobs, they quit their management."
We have a saying in Hungary when you give more work to someone who is already working hard: They always beat the horse who pull hard. How do you say it in English?
It's so frustrating man. All my co-workers are female but we got a new male co-worker a couple of weeks ago (not important to the story but he looks exactly like the 2019 Joker, so there's that lol) and he made it more than clear that he had a problem with women. Like, we would kindly ask him to do things or try to explain things to him and he'd get offended because we were "just young girls, telling him, a man what to do". (we're all 21 up to 40 years old??) It's gotten to a point where there have been multiple complaints to our boss about him throughout the few weeks and now guess what our MALE boss did... ...he didn't fire him for his sexism or incompetence. He didn't put him in his place and protected us. Instead, he told us to be more cooperative and then he put him in charge of us. The man who has only been there for a few weeks. In charge. Of us. What do you even do in a situation like this
That reminds me of a new manager we got at my first job at a movie theater. He was a hotel manager who'd never worked in a theatre, wanted to change all our methods without bothering to learn what works and was very sexist towards 14-20 year old girls. Fortunately he got enough complaints to "move to other projects" but i can't imagine how hellish it would have been if he'd stayed.
this frustrated me so much!! like have your opinions, do whatever you want i’m not gonna hold you back, but if you know it’s something people won’t agree with don’t share it. if you don’t like woman fine, but don’t basically tell them to their faces in a company where all the workers there are women. oh my god-
I'd be really interested in hearing about Cristine's and Ben's past relationships (both platonic and romantic). Not in a sense of spilling the tea about exfriend or exes in general, but more about what they have learned from them and what advice they might give since they seem to have one of the healthiest and most wholesome relationships I have ever seen
okay but Ben saying "i'd need three hours for that" when Cristine said they would need an hour of him talking about how much he loves her is just so sweet. i'm excited for a relationship episode. i'd also like to hear your guys' opinions on toxic relationship behaviours
Ugh... The Mrs comment. I was at a club with friends, getting some drinks. I was at the bar, waiting for my drink and this older guy comes up offering to buy me a drink. I politely refuse, so he tries to chat. trying to be polite but show that I'm not interested I gave him short answers. Then he asked about my job and I start telling him that I'm a sales manager at a company that deals with aircraft parts. He seemed genuinely interested so I kept telling him about it and explaining interesting things from the industry because I was very passionate about it at the time (I no longer work there) so he listens and then says "you're too pretty to work such a job". It was so disappointing. At perfect timing, the bartender placed out my shot of tequila. I replied "I'm also too smart not to", downed the shot and walked away. It was perfect.
thank u so much Cristine for seeing my comment. this was the highlight of my day because i havent been getting a lot of sleep lately and two of my friends went behind my back today and it made me really sad and upset. you made my day so much better and thank you for that 💕🥺
me, working on my third degree (second undergrad)n and planning on a PhD...... so far the letters after my name look like this BSc (hons) MSc (hons) MBChB (pending)
elizabethparsons4 I recently passed my PhD viva, just last month. I remember being in the hell that is thesis writing, so just know that you’ve almost reached the light at the end of the tunnel 😁
Oh, I can SO relate to the lawyer story. My first job was as a receptionist at a lawyer's office. During my interview, he asked me what I want to do one day. I told him I really want to work in media or advertising because I am very creative. His response was, "So you want to draw pictures for a living?" and laughed at me. Guess what I said the day I quit because of a job offer at a marketing agency... PS. I have my own business now and work in marketing.
These creative things are really hard and you have to pay a lot of attention and you can actually get a lot of money for that. The people ( * coughs* males) who laugh at females or people for that are the real idiots. And they’re not actually that smart.
I don't know what this comment section is but congratulations! That's amazing! Way to go. Loving the not so subtle professional success graph that you shoved at the toxic misogynist's face :)
Me too sadly. I have people asking me if I'm getting my MRS. Since I'm in a serious relationship. Like no I'm getting my BS in Mortuary Science and then we might get married. We will see. Let's hope I don't find you on my table someday.
At around 13:00-14:30 Ben's talking about a child actor who starred in many movies named Jackie Coogan he reportedly earned over a million dollars in total but his parents stole most of it. He sued his parents of course, but he was only able to recover a small portion of the money. This sparked public outrage, thus a law called the "Coogans Act" was issued. More about this: ua-cam.com/video/dbpHbgf5_aU/v-deo.html
Ben is a genuinely excellent interviewer. Thoroughly enjoyed this and as a 28 year old woman it is always interesting to hear other people's experiences and perspectives of sexism in the workplace. I have a first class degree in Media Arts and did a double credit module in Online Broadcasting (amongst other things). In 2018 at work I helped to turn a meeting room into a TV studio, and set up multiple cameras, mics and a lighting rig so we could film a Q&A with the CEO and broadcast it live to every single employee around the world. A man in the senior management team who had never met me before and knew nothing about me approached me afterwards and congratulated me on being a really good roadie for my (male) boss. I'm still furious about it.
While in HS, a supervisor at Nautica asked me to open my mouth for a second. I was not understanding what he was asking but I did it, and then he mentioned me going into the backroom. Im still pissed but I was 17 maybe? I was so upset, he begged me not to complain about it, because he already had a strike on his record. I wanted to be okay with the joke, so I said it was fine. Hated that fucking job. Wishing now even at 39 years old that I had complained then. Me as an almost 40 year old versus me as a child, two totally different people. Now I'm a Mama Bear with two little girls. God help the person that fucks with my girls. My girls will handle it I'm sure, but not before I have my say.

Whenever I put on a “listen only” podcast, I find myself glancing at the screen for context or to see facial expressions. so I prefer UA-cam for pod casts
Per the MRS degree comment, I think the way you reacted at the time (or lack there of) was the best situation. He didn't get the satisfaction of getting under your skin.
Oh my gosh, when you talked about the MRS degree, that hit me! I’m a senior in engineering and I CONSTANTLY get asked if I’m in engineering to find a husband.... like no I’m here to make bank and be your boss goodbye.
Autumn Richards I just started uni this year as an engineering student and I haven’t had any bad experiences as of now but I can’t wait to experience it for myself you know?
Lol engineering is in the running with chemistry and medical school for most expensive and difficult degrees to choose only for the purpose of finding a husband. Lol... so stupid
37:00 my own ex- boyfriend’s mom told my ex at the time that she believed I was going to elite college to find myself a husband. Like no, Karen, I’m going to college to get a degree and better my life, not to immediately marry your freeloading son????
IKR? I went to a 'meh' university (mostly bc I feel more comfortable in that uni's environment and the learning speed is what I'm Okay with) and when my mom tell a neighbor about this the FIRST thing she said was, 'be careful, a bad environment brings you a bad husband' im like, what? You really think I work my ass off for the entrance exam just to find SOME BOY? 😭
i was always told not to have boyfriends while in school, definitely shouldn't in high school because education first. my mom said she preferred i didn't have a relationship until after college even, but she doesn't expect it. fast forward to now where i'll be in my 30s soon... i really feel my dad expected me to be married (to a guy met in university, no doubt) by like age 22-24 with kids by 27 because 30 is too old, says him. my younger sister got married more than a year ago. she did not ask him to walk her down the aisle. and promptly set up life thousands of miles away out of state. that speaks volumes. because i am unmarried, my father blames my mom for not "training" me well and that it's her fault i turned out this way. as if his incompetence, idiocy, egoism, power trips, anger issues and lack of fatherhood didn't have an effect. he treats it like he was perfect and didn't negatively affect all us siblings. he reiterates that i'm not his daughter; i'm my mom's daughter so it was her job to "educate" me. for me, i just haven't yet met a guy who can commit to marriage or even long-term serious relationship. it just hasn't happened for me and that's fine if life doesn't work out that way. i don't really mind if i don't get married and don't have kids as a result. don't want to rush into a marriage for the sake of some arbitrary timeline. even if i don't have kids of my own, it doesn't mean that i can't be nurturing or mothering in some other way. my aunt (dad's eldest sister) was unmarried without kids. life goes on. it's gonna be interesting with my younger brother how the marriage situation will be dealt with around him if he's unmarried for much longer. i expect, no issue- because he's a guy and can be single for longer so he has more available time to find a wife, and wouldn't matter what age he becomes a father
I don’t really understand how people can even think that way. I suppose there MAY be some people, men or women, that do this. But realistically in WHAT WORLD would you pay thousands of dollars to find a husband????????????? It just doesn’t make sense in my mind. And I can’t believe his mom would say something like that 🤦🏻♀️
Gi L Gi L Gi L I’m sorry you had a dad who’s priorities were so screwed up. He should have pride in you for focusing on your education. Everything happens at a different timeline for different people. I’m actually happy to hear your mom was the type of woman to say that finding a man is not a top priority. Plus everyone should be able to wait until they find the right person for them as well. I hope I don’t sound disrespectful towards your dad cause I don’t intend that, but it just makes me angry to hear that from you! And a mom’s job isn’t to “train” her daughter to find a man. I’m glad you didn’t listen to him and did what was best for yourself! To me getting married at 22-24 sounds pretty young anyways, not that there’s anything wrong with getting married then. 30 is still young imo anyways, you’ve got plenty of time to find the right man for you 😉. And it’s disappointing to hear about the (probable) double standard when it comes to your brother. Ok sorry my rant is over now 😭
I must insist that a kitty podcast be made! Cat stories, cat personalities, owning cats (the joy, the struggles, the cost), childhood pets, cats vs dogs, and any plans for more pets? Also oats. I said this last time, but it must be heard.
Damn, that lawyer story... The weirdest one I have was once I told a man I was getting a master's degree in aerospace engineering and he asked me if that was because I wanted to be a stewardess. 🤷♀️
Maria Cheira omg lol. That is horrible! We have a huge Boeing company hq where I live and there are so many incredible women engineers that I meet. Smh at that guy!
Yikes. Could you imagine if that was necessary though - to be a steward/ess to have an aerospace engineering degree? There wouldn't be enough people to cover all the flights. That's not a simple degree to take. My boyfriend has had uneducated questions about his degree - acoustical engineering - like asking if that's for making music. But that's down to people not knowing what acoustical engineering actually covers. Rather than that man who obviously knew enough to be demeaning because you're female (or appear to him as such, don't want to presume your gender). Technically the work he does now fits more into aero anyway (and his PhD was more on that) so I get to see a lot second hand stuff of what goes into that kind of degree and to be disrespected like that is just awful. How is/did your degree go by the way? Did/are you enjoying it?
Relationship question: I am in my late 20s and I feel like everyone around me is married or has kids, starting the "traditional family" in some sense. Can you address what it's like not being married and not having kids compared to people around you? Hope that makes sense and I REALLY hope you address this in some way!
As a 30 year old woman in a de facto relationship (Australian version of a civil partnership) I'd love to hear about Cristine's experience with this! I get so frustrated sometimes at family and friends prodding at our decision not to get married or have children. ♡
This. We need this. I'm single and struggling with the pressure from my grandparents and parents about getting married and starting a family, but I don't see myself there yet. Maybe in a few years(I'm not against having a family at some point),but right now no. And they are very rude about it sometimes, which is both annoying and hurtful and it's getting more and more difficult dealing with them
i mean i was born in 2004 and grown men have been sexualizing me and undermining my abilities since i was 12 so no, things haven’t really changed since then.
2006 and it do still be like that. The other day I sent an email to my business teacher, labelled the subject as important in all caps because he told us to do that, 2 days later I still didn't have a response but my male friend sent an email and *didn't* specify it as important and he got a response almost immediately. I've even mentioned it in class but he said he had to get through more important stuff first. Can't say for sure its because I'm female but I'm pretty sure its because I'm female.
Personally, I really appreciate her and her positive attitude. She has cheered me up when I had a bad day and I just want to say thank you for being here for me.
Just an idea: I think it would be fun if you announced at the end of each episode what the subject of the next one is going to be and we could submit questions for a 'flash Q&A' for it! Maybe with a #, so you could easily find them Edit: Ok I just saw the last few minutes where you talk about this, great thanks :) + the cat cam is a definite STAY PLEASE
The fact she was almost Emma on Degrassi blows my mind as a Canadian. I love her and Ben commenting on Canadian things since I live only an hour from Ottawa and have relatives that live there so watching/listening to you guys is so much more realistic than other big youtubers in LA lol
I need to read this like 10 times just to understand it :v like, use spacebar in the right place ;;; Simplynailogical - Chaotic Neutral Simplynotlogical - Chaotic Evil Holo Taco - Lawful Good Simplypodlogical - Lawful Neutral :v
i felt it when ben talked about his job giving him more responsibility because he was a good employee. this is so common and i hate it. a similar thing happened to me where the company i worked for (also in retail) started taking advantage of me, and when i asked one of my managers why i had more to do than others on the same pay, i was told "because you're competent". that's not an excuse to take advantage of someones work ethic and overwork them.
It reminded me of when I was working as a barmaid in festivals, they would put me on whatever bar had a rush that day and I ended up getting sick from the heatwave and literally went down on my knees after finishing my day to a full mental breakdown, crying and stuff ✌️🤡
Relationship question: I'm interested to know if you had relationships before each other and what they taught you, possibly how they prepared you for your partnership with each other.
My cousin was asked about the MRS degree as well and she responded with “nope I’m getting my MISS degree” ,said that the guy went bright red and ran away😂
this podcast is only 2 episodes deep and i already enjoy it more than 99% of the other podcasts on youtube! also id love to hear relationship-centric content. im wondering: how do you handle working together (day job and youtube) and living together? do you find you need to take breaks from each other at all?
right!? i wonder the same thing, like how they spend pretty much 24/7 together and not get “sick” of each other. i kinda love that about them, they seem to genuinely enjoy spending all their time together and i think that’s super sweet
Since you are doing themed podcasts, I would love to hear you talk about books and movies and music sometime. Perhaps recommending us stuff that we may ignore so we can discover what you like and get to know you more based on your tastes. I very much enjoy getting recommendations from people I find interesting or share a point of view with...Does that make sense?
When Cristine said "Who wants to hear Ben talk about how much he loves me for an hour?!" and then Ben replied "Oh we'd need 3 hours for that!" 😭 MY HEART!! Also I'd love to hear you both talk about long distance relationships and any experience you might have with them.
I have worked in two different factories and every room is decorated with SEVERAL calendars with naked porn stars for each month. I don't think they had more calendars for being up to date lol. Made me feel extremely uncomfortable. Also, I was told not to ever bend down, cause someone might grab me from behind.. I too thought most of it was fun and jokes, and I got along very well with most of them, because my mom worked there as well and I had known most if them since being born. However, thinking back it is quite unsettling.
Okay but that's exactly what I'm doing. I'm listening to this one on Spotify and Cristine said to watch at least one of them so here I am but I fully intend to go back to listening in a minute so I can fall asleep
"You're not going to be in school for the rest of your life." -Cristine "I'm a teacher get me out of hereeeeee!" -Me I think the problem with working harder being rewarded with more work is true for so many types of jobs. My dad works in a factory and is really good at what he does. He's getting a bit old for the physical work but he keeps being passed up for promotion to the offices because "we need you on the floor". He's been working there for 20 years now. :S
i think it’s insane how hard cristine works. she works full time (i think), and does all the youtube videos, has a podcast, updates on her social medias, has her own business, interacts with her fans, and a bunch more. she’s literally awesome and i have no idea how she does it 💖
I would just like to commend Cristine and Ben for proving that you can have a thought provoking and hot-button conversation while remaining respectful.
Ben is so right about employers knowing who the good employees are to take advantage of them. I always have to work important holidays because everyone else will call in and I'm handed more responsibilities.
I really hope Ben keeps up the Jimmy Kimmel-esque bit of “apologies to ....., we were supposed to have them on but ran out of time” I just wanna see him cycle through irrelevant names 😂
If you’re someone who wants to work in a leadership position, you really can learn something from every boss you have along the way, even if the only thing you learn from them is how NOT to act in a leadership position
Cristine: “I really hope things have changed by now” Me: porn on the walls in a work place? Check. Men saying I’m attending an elite college to snag myself a rich husband? Check.
Sara S. Small family businesses are the Wild West lol. There is no HR! And don’t feel bad for me, the the nudies did bother me all that much cuz the ladies also had their “sexy” calendar full of shirtless men (equality I guess?), and thankfully the husband comments never happened to me in a work environment or by a superior.
Sara S. Thanks! I will say though I was privileged at this job because my S/O worked there as well. A couple of the managers were known to be inappropriate with young female employees and it wasn’t taken seriously. However I was left alone because they worked alongside my boyfriend.
@@ollybygolly9326 It sucks that harassment is still a big thing in the workplace. It's still a big thing in general. There is this one road near where I used to live where you could be in a bin bag walking down it and STILL get catcalled and harassed. Once this guy walked past me, looked at my crotch area and said 'nice p*ssy' he was so gross it will haunt me forever.
surprising and sad. coming from a girl from india... we have so much sexism, but i have never heard anything close to what cristine and you say. sorry and hope it gets better for you soon
I worked in car sales from 2015 to 2019. As a female I can say without a shadow of a doubt, there absolutely still is that pervasive level of misogyny. The guys at one shop I worked at had an internal signal (Literally shouting CA-CAW) for when a "hot" woman would walk by. I've always said that there are only two ways women survive in the car industry. Either they become one of the boys, or they become the shop bicycle. It's the only way we can protect ourselves. (So glad I went back to college.)
I know exactly what Ben is talking about when you're a good employee they pretty much take advantage of you and people that slack off aren't expected much of and unfortunately it's pretty much been the same at all my jobs.
I honestly think that’s why people steal. Not everyone, of course, some people are just thrives. But I know one girl at work takes one can of cat food from their job every day just because they overwork her so much. They overwork her because she is a hard worker. Basically people take things that they feel like they are owed.
I totally relate when Ben says that the emloyers are "using" the good employees. During one of my summer job, the assistant manager wasn't reliable, always calling sick etc. So when the manager wasn't there, she was giving me the responsabilities. Like, I was the one training the new employees and beeing responsible for opening and closing, but I was paid the same as than the new ones I was training.
yup. i've been offered 2 promotions to which i'm not qualified for, all because i do my job well and they'd rather dump the responsibility on someone that'll try to do the job they have no skill to do, than someone that knows how to do the job but can't be bothered
Yep. I’ve been there too. To be fair, it was a local coffee shop and the owner probably didn’t have a lot of money to begin with. But now that I’m out of that job, I just realized how many child labor laws he violated with me. I was working about... 8 hour shifts without a break after school sometimes (in my state you’re required a 30 min break every 4 hours if a minor) and I would close the cash drawer (again illegal if you’re a minor) as well as other things. I never got a pay increase because of it even though I was technically the manager of the store at like.. 16. I was making minimum wage just like the rest of the baristas.
i feel that. i was working fast food about 30 hours a week for months and they were having me train new employees but they refused to promote me to the official title and get me a raise. one of the many reasons i quit
Same when I worked at Sally's I took over manager duties for several months when they were between PICKING A MANAGER... LIIIKEEE..???!? Anyways when the 6 month rolled around I got a 30cent raise, which I'm told was good. I deserved much more and I didn't even get healthcare
Where I work currently they get us to train new employees, with no extra pay. I keep getting given more responsibilities with of course no extra money, I feel like I'm constantly doing more than what I'm actually being paid for. I hope to be leaving soon though.
I wish every man has the sensibility that Ben has to women life issues. I've found depressing the part of the Mrs. degree. I live in Brazil and things are like that yet! I'm loving these podcasts. I believe in this channel there will be less views compared to simply and notlogical channels because you will have the fans that are interested in your adult life perspectives! I believe that most 25's and up will relate more. Please keep doing this. 🙏🏼
I recently met a friend from online and we went out to a ramen place for dinner, we had a pretty nice server, and my friend noted that every time the server came to ask questions or take orders or bring food, I basically flipped on a switch to be super friendly and warm even though he was aware I was mega tired and had a massive headache, which I guess I just do because I've been a server at a pizza place before and I know how I would like to be treated so I automatically treat someone exactly how I'd like to be if I were in their place, especially because who knows how many crappy people they may have had to deal with today or how long they've been working. Servers are superheroes
Hearing how much christine talk about how much she worked makes me feel like im not crazy. I work a full time job and two part time jobs. Sometimes i wont get a full day off for a week or so. But i like being able to be self sufficient and depend on myself

Yeah, would love to hear the more technical parts of the nail polish selection. Cristine did you have to learn a lot of stuff about nail polish formulas and chemistry?

I really enjoy the podcast as you're both two slightly older adults whose opinions I trust. I'm really enjoying hearing you discuss these topics. Also i think it's Ben's cadence or timbre that is really comforting/relaxing
It is called the Coogan Act. This forces parents to save money earned through child acting, because the parents were spending money on themselves instead of the child.
Yes, Jackie Coogan was an adorable 4 year old child actor with Charlie Chaplin in his hit movie "The Kid". He later went on to become Uncle Fester in The Addams Family. He once told the somewhat bratty child actor for Pugsley, "Cheer up, kid, I did a law for you!"
Living in Pakistan and becoming a doctor and every male teacher has mentioned (if not more than once) that most of us female students won’t practice or even teach. Like according to them I’m wasting 5 years of my life to immense stress to just become someone’s wife.
Being from the same country and a medical student as well, hearing you went in this field to get good proposals to get married gets to my nerves every single time!
oh jeez I am 20 years old (21 in about 4 months!) and I have a 3 year old brother and when I'm out with him without my mom I feel like I'm being watched and it's so sad because there is a stereotype on young ladies. I had a friend who was adopted from china with her brother who was young she would go out to the store with him and people would ask if he was hers!? Like we're not all the same. Maybe considerably easier than her usual videos

I love it!! So true! "Cat Cam" Rocks!
Sigh...
genius!
This works for racist comments really well too! :)
"Oh you're asking me if I'm going to college in order to find a husband? Why would I pay thousands of dollars to do that?" Lmao I'd like to see some dick try to explain themselves. I love this method!
Oh this is one of my favourites. It's the fucking best. Just interview them and force them to shame themselves 😂
You were an actual child! What the fuck?!

i like this one!! what would the podcast topic theme be, how feel about being on camera??
SimplyPodLogical maybe about personal growth from child/teen/young adult to where you are now? Idk but rooting for you guys to talk about that!!

@@shidsonzja if you're proud of being a good wife, good for you. But not every woman wants to be that and it's not my teachers problem.
Can this video be sponsored by Menchie
Same! I only like the option of having audio only podcasts through an app for when I’m trying to sleep or just need background noise but also so i can still be on my phone or when I’m driving and don’t want to watch something but def want to listen. I want all the things 😂

I love to aswell but I don’t have enough time, I have to keep doing things as I listen
I can’t pay attention when I’m not looking at it so I prefer to watch

When Cristine started to talk about her work ex with the lawyer, I instantly thought, "oh no, sexual harassment" and then she told that he was being sexist, and I thought, "oh, he was just being sexist".
I was thinking this too

Hello i just wanna push ur question up
i wanna see these answered, just here to boost 👍👍
This!!
👍
(we're all 21 up to 40 years old??)
It's gotten to a point where there have been multiple complaints to our boss about him throughout the few weeks and now guess what our MALE boss did...
...he didn't fire him for his sexism or incompetence.
Fortunately he got enough complaints to "move to other projects" but i can't imagine how hellish it would have been if he'd stayed.
this frustrated me so much!! like have your opinions, do whatever you want i’m not gonna hold you back, but if you know it’s something people won’t agree with don’t share it. if you don’t like woman fine, but don’t basically tell them to their faces in a company where all the workers there are women. oh my god-
Oh man thats awful. Maybe try and send off your complaint higher up in the company?
@Me Too men aren't funny
Go to corporate! Don't let them get away with it!

Omg this made me so angry reading!!! Sending hugs to both OP and reply!!

Cristine: Do you guys wanna hear how much Ben loves me for one hour straight?
Ben: We'll need 3 hours for that!
Me: YOU TWO ARE ADORABLE.
"bags of milk" That is the most Canadian thing I've ever heard.
Vince Pale glad I’m not the only one who thought this lol
I was wondering if anyone else would notice! Bahahaha!
@@thenightbus9121 I love your studious Jigglypuff profile pic!
I live in Venezuela. In the last year bags of milk have come into the market.
we still have "normal" milk.....i think
Roots is actually sponsoring in secret.
Per the MRS degree comment, I think the way you reacted at the time (or lack there of) was the best situation. He didn't get the satisfaction of getting under your skin.
iMoco13 yes you‘re right!
so true!
@@YuLingZeng313 Why? So you can tell them they are assholes?
Lol engineering is in the running with chemistry and medical school for most expensive and difficult degrees to choose only for the purpose of finding a husband. Lol... so stupid
37:00 my own ex- boyfriend’s mom told my ex at the time that she believed I was going to elite college to find myself a husband.
Like no, Karen, I’m going to college to get a degree and better my life, not to immediately marry your freeloading son????
IKR? I went to a 'meh' university (mostly bc I feel more comfortable in that uni's environment and the learning speed is what I'm Okay with)
and when my mom tell a neighbor about this the FIRST thing she said was, 'be careful, a bad environment brings you a bad husband' im like, what?
@@GenieGin13 I'm so sorry that you had a father who is so immature and reactionary...plz really live your life with the pace you want
Oh my bloody goodness!
Lmfao 😂😂😂 sorry but it's so funny.😂
That was so stupid of him😆
Relationship question:
I am in my late 20s and I feel like everyone around me is married or has kids, starting the "traditional family" in some sense. Can you address what it's like not being married and not having kids compared to people around you?
Hope that makes sense and I REALLY hope you address this in some way!
Would love this!
I am also very curious about how others treat them bc they don't have and don't want any kids.
I love the idea too. Next topic maybe. :)
WOW that's so toxic! They shouldn't do that to you especially when you were so young!
2003 baby here, can I hug you?
i was born in 2004 too
2005 and oh my gosh that’s awful, I hope you prove them wrong that you’re worth so much more than that!
The set is actually beautiful. Just... _chef's kiss_
Just an idea: I think it would be fun if you announced at the end of each episode what the subject of the next one is going to be and we could submit questions for a 'flash Q&A' for it! Maybe with a #, so you could easily find them
Edit: Ok I just saw the last few minutes where you talk about this, great thanks :) + the cat cam is a definite STAY PLEASE

i felt it when ben talked about his job giving him more responsibility because he was a good employee. this is so common and i hate it. a similar thing happened to me where the company i worked for (also in retail) started taking advantage of me, and when i asked one of my managers why i had more to do than others on the same pay, i was told "because you're competent". that's not an excuse to take advantage of someones work ethic and overwork them.
It reminded me of when I was working as a barmaid in festivals, they would put me on whatever bar had a rush that day and I ended up getting sick from the heatwave and literally went down on my knees after finishing my day to a full mental breakdown, crying and stuff ✌️🤡

this podcast is only 2 episodes deep and i already enjoy it more than 99% of the other podcasts on youtube! also id love to hear relationship-centric content. im wondering: how do you handle working together (day job and youtube) and living together? do you find you need to take breaks from each other at all?
right!? i wonder the same thing, like how they spend pretty much 24/7 together and not get “sick” of each other. i kinda love that about them, they seem to genuinely enjoy spending all their time together and i think that’s super sweet
All the dislikes are just people falling asleep from Beyn’s soothing voice
no hate
Okay but that's exactly what I'm doing. I'm listening to this one on Spotify and Cristine said to watch at least one of them so here I am but I fully intend to go back to listening in a minute so I can fall asleep
😂 i totally fall asleep to his voice. I had to rewatch the first episode twice. Doesnt help i listen to this when i cant sleep
Yea, ben has a nice voice! I love simply and beyyyyyyyn ❤️
Chelsey Abbott wow are they on Spotify already XD no one mind me heh
I just woke up from a nap half way through lol can confirm minus the dislike lol
"You're not going to be in school for the rest of your life." -Cristine
"I'm a teacher get me out of hereeeeee!" -Me
I think the problem with working harder being rewarded with more work is true for so many types of jobs. My dad works in a factory and is really good at what he does. He's getting a bit old for the physical work but he keeps being passed up for promotion to the offices because "we need you on the floor". He's been working there for 20 years now. :S
They need to give him some rest. Train new people to be as good as him
Let him train people, pass on his knowledge and give him a break from physical labor. Vote head of training!!!!
i think it’s insane how hard cristine works. she works full time (i think), and does all the youtube videos, has a podcast, updates on her social medias, has her own business, interacts with her fans, and a bunch more. she’s literally awesome and i have no idea how she does it 💖

Relationship question:
When did you guys discuss that you didn't want to get married?
When Christine steeped herself in her bathtub.
Baibhab Chakraborty I love how this is an actual answer to the question. 🤣 ❤️❤️
Tara Harrison or a Stephen Colbert-esque “Meanwhile...”
If you’re someone who wants to work in a leadership position, you really can learn something from every boss you have along the way, even if the only thing you learn from them is how NOT to act in a leadership position
Cristine: “I really hope things have changed by now”

Once this guy walked past me, looked at my crotch area and said 'nice p*ssy' he was so gross it will haunt me forever.

The shop bicycle?
I could listen to a whole episode of them ripping on mlms.

I need a t-shirt than just says “are we qualified for that?”

I love the “Menchie Cam” under the table. 😄
Cristine says, "I've been working for 16 years..." And I'm here like, "I've been alive for 16 years."

He once told the somewhat bratty child actor for Pugsley, "Cheer up, kid, I did a law for you!"
yea when i was a child model most of the money i made went into a coogan account that i can only access when i turn 18
