  • In this video, we fitted the Des Sol under body Protection combo and the Radial Cup Protectors. These are the most vulnerable parts that we think must be protected on the Jimny.

Radius arm cup guards, yes. Diff's, no. They are so solid your'd really have to be careless to damage them, and as the are so low you make it worth adding anything to them. Transfer case guard, definitely, but not a guard that mounts on the transfer case supports, this defeats the whole purpose of protecting it. The best option is the style that goes from one side of the chassis to the other. Like the Jimny Bits one or ACFab Jimny transfer case guard here in NZ, which is modeled off the Jimny Bits one. Fuel tank guard, yes. Rocksliders, definately, but they must protect the door sills and not just be glorified side steps, and chassis mount, do not use the body mount points. My 2 cents worth. Cheers

Thanks for the Advice. I bought the under body protection to support a Local company called Des Sol. I still need to get a fuel tank guard

The radius arm pivot protectors are good ones, I was thinking of a roller wheel on the bolt. These seem to be solid and are they made steel or alloy? What metal is the diff guards made of? A sensible addition and should be the first mod on Jimmy! Have fun and thankyou for the insight!

I will check with the manufacturers and let you know. Maybe if they see this comment, they might respond.

It's important to remember your gvm, you don't have lots to play with.
When modifying a vehicle especially in this case a jimny you need to compromise wants versus needs, every kilo added matters.
Just an observation, I can see the radial protectors moving every modest hit they take, a very ordinary or should say poor design.
Do you feel a fuel tank protector is warranted versus say those pumpkins getting protectors?

Howsit going, Des Sol radial cup protectors are solid, best I’ve seen so far and tried and tested properly by many on this side of the world. Stay tuned to see the build in it’s entirety. Dumping unnecessary weight, doing necessary add on’s all coming. What we need in this build will stay, what we don’t need will go depending on the terrain we will cross.

Upgrading the suspension is also a (unofficial) GVM upgrade that is then offset by upgrading underbody protection and adding a roof-rack. Also factor in that if you are going to add weight, the bottom of the vehicle, at or between the axles is the optimal place to do so and this might marginally benefit the overall stability of the Jimny, especially when fully loaded. I suspect that the worst places to add extra weight will be at the highest points and at the very front and very rear of the vehicle - those replacement bumpers adds significant weight exactly where you don't want it.
