So does that mean the 2 engines are similar brought to directly swap? For context I have a Camaro roller (Everything but engine and trans) and my cousin is willing to sell me his LS2 out of a G8. From my understanding everything should be mostly plug and play besides a few things but, any insight?
@@user-hg4hz1lx2hThat’s right, the G8 LS2 will bolt in place of an LS3/L99 in a 5th Gen Camaro, everything transfers over except the intake manifold since it’s going from rectangle port to cathedral port(not to be confused with the L76)..but since you have no stuff to transfer over, the throttle body for the same year camaro might be needed to work properly but will bolt right up to the LS2 intake. The injectors are EV6 between the two, and if you need an accessory drive, the 4th Gen Camaro accessories will most likely work. People have used 5th Gen accessories in 4th gens and they’re basically the same. The GTO also use the same accessory drive if I’m not mistaken..couple of options there. Pretty much plug and play just will need a tune..whether factory G8 LS2 tune or custom. If it had an L99, make sure to disable the VVT & AFM if you have the same harness/ecu.
@@channelnotinuse-u7d You’re the goat, and yeah it’s a L76!! I’m new to all this, I got all the accessories but a power steering pump, intake/throttle, and the front timing cover, for the Vvt thing do I just buy the kit? Or is it something a tuner just removes?
@@silverbullet_2ss bet I got a clapped out 6.0 ready to drop in mine. Only bc I wanna go nitrous with a strong block. But I been procrastinating waiting for somebody with something similar. Appreciate you fam 🙏🏾
Negative, unless you gut all wires out of it, rewire and run a stand alone ECU for engine control, and get transmission to match, but something like that wouldn't make sense money/time wise.
I’m new and trying to get into the car stuff, I have a 5th Gen Camaro Shell and been researching other more affordable options than the L99. Do you think a 6.0 Ls2 a good option to put instead?

Not an expert but in the same boat frl, from what I’ve researched for litterally months now, a guy on the Camaro forms did this same thing and from my understanding using a Gen 4 LS block will bolt right in, you will need the LS3/L99 intake and injectors, and a tune for the changes in displacement displacement. If I find the link or if you find a better one lmk!!
Stock harness assuming you are a V8 car already. Need a gen4 6.0 block, LQ4,LQ9, LY6. As long as the block has knock sensors on the side instead of under the valley cover. They all will bolt up to stock manual Tr-6060 6-speed transmission and 6L80 auto transmission. You can reuse stock intake manifold, cylinder heads, valley cover, injectors, and all other front-end drive accessories. Some things will vary depending on if you are auto or manual but after you line that out you will need a tune for new displacement.
The gen 4 6.0 I pulled out of a 2500 work truck and the original 6.2 out of my camaro are identical. All my parts from my 6.2 swapped right over to the 6.0. I replaced the cam, lifters, timing cover and valley cover to get rid of VVT but other than that the engine was a direct swap.
There are a lot of guys who inquire about putting a v8 into their v6. Honestly it's not impossible and I know a guy who has done it but after it's all said and done he was left with a lot of electronics like gages and windows not working and would have come out cheaper just buying a v8. Good luck with what ever you choose.
Physically yes, the trans lines right up with motor but depending on the type of 5.3/6.0 etc you may need to change lifters, timing chain, cam shaft etc if motor has vvt or not.
@@silverbullet_2ss that's even more motivation to try this setup. Out of all the vids on swaps and upgrade for the 5 gen, this one makes the most sense. Thanks for taking the time to reply 💯
@baconslaughter127 I paid $1,300 for ly6 6.0 out of a GMC 2500 work van. $400 for cam, $400 for Johnson lifters, valley cover, timing chain ⛓️ upgrade, timing cover and a fee other miscellaneous parts. So maybe 3.5k. All other parts were swapped from my 6.2 stock motor to the 6.0.
Using a Gen 4 block, the knock sensors were in the same place as my original Ls3/L99 that comes in 5th gen camaro ss. I did have to drill and tread a hole for the A/C compressor braket to hang off the driverside of the block.
Gen 4 iron blocks seem pretty hard to come by. I have a gen 3 iron block that I wanted to build for mine but I wasn't sure what to do about those things. Thanks for the info though.
Fun fact, the Camaro concept from 2007 had an LS2 w/AFM and a T56. It was basically a GTO underneath.

I’m doing the same in a 5gen Camaro about to start putting the 6.0 in this weekend

I'm wanting to upgrade my v6 Camaro RS to a carbureted 454 with hei ! Possibly a 572. Just don't know how the leftover wiring and PCM will react
Maybe go with a 70s harness and fuse box, turbo 400 and solid rear get rid of all the bcm , airbags, and abs brakes too
Where did you get the side skirts and that rear diffuser from looks awesome 💯
Amazon but it's been 5yrs or so. Not sure if they still offer them

what transmision is it bro?
Manual Tremec TR-6060
Will it work in a 6th gen Camaro ss

4" Gforce Aluminum Driveshaft
