I don't get drone like you described and I drive with my rear seats folded down so I can hear it all! My only exterior mods are getting the hood, mirrors, and spoiler painted black and an aftermarket grille for the front and new wheels and tires. Looking forward to getting a supercharger in the near future. I think I will look into tinting the headlights and when I black out the tail light bezels this winter. I only drive in the summer months up here and there is no night at that time of year.
Lmfaooo for a daily? WHY NOT, hahaha! Yeah going FULL straight pipe is wild tbh. You're a guy that went straight to performance, exactly what I should have done!
everyone talks about modding the inside of your car changing up things in the engine bay etc, but small cosmetic upgrades can make such a difference to how you feel about your car, I just got some vinyl striping for the vents, it was like 6 bucks, and it just makes me feel so much better about my car, I look at it and im like "damn that is so sick"
As far as your exhaust goes. Retro fit a factory NPP system. I did it & I absolutely love it. Quiet when cruising Flip a switch & it becomes a strait piped system. Best of both!
Are you running the Mild2Wild setup? I have a stock 2014 SS with the NPP and considering my exhaust options. I’m thinking about just keeping the NPP and eventually running headers and a X-Pipe. I also really like how the Valvetronic mufflers came out on Gabe’s SS. I still want some kind of quiet mode, but don’t want to spend money unnecessarily.
@@jakethomas_419 Sorry for the delay. Mine is a 12 so i it is retro fitted . ran off engine vacuum with a vacuum solenoid to open ^ close the valves it works but only an open & closed position, no in-between.
Definitely tackling suspension mods on my stang before doing anything under the hood. What good is a one trick pony that only goes fast in a straight line.
I’m really happy you went into it about intakes. I have a K&N plastic tube cold air intake and thought about changing because people apparently don’t care for them as much. I didn’t know if that was because horsepower gains were worse or not. I take it they are around the same. Also I’m pretty sure your gears aren’t stock. I have a 2012 LS3 with a similar exhaust set up. I have flow master axel backs instead of no mufflers. (416rwhp and 426 tq on dyno), and 75mph I’m right at 2000 rpm.
Got a 2015 LS3. It came with a Hurst short throw shifter, dual mode exhaust and a trunk mat. Bought it new. Do not like the transmission, Shifts hard and will jump out of 2nd gear sometimes and is noisy. Installed the skip shifter bypass and got rid of that nonsense. Had the dealer check the oil level in the transmission. Never raced or even done a burn out. It has not been abused so I don't know what the deal is with the transmission. But I love the car. Would never lower it because I already drag the stock front splitter on everything. Only got just over 14k miles on it, almost 10 years old. Looks brand new, still.
Soft at first but when you started explaining the exost and the getting older thing i started paying attention. And thanks for the swade tip im sick of cleaning.
The exhaust was surprising, however it makes total sense man. Especially as you get older. My 2SS still has the stock exhaust and im not really eager to swap it for the reasons you've mentioned. Im 41 years old, and when guys pull next to me with super loud exhausts, it annoys the F out of me. So, the idea of hearing that 24/7 from my own car is not very appealing. Driving on lowered cars is also not very fun when you get older, but i really dislike the Camaro stock height. So I went with airlift suspension. I can drive lower, higher, or at stock height. Also, slamming it when parked is pretty cool. Like you, driving around on static just makes me too self conscious. When you get a certain age, you'll start to prefer comfort and practicality over looks.
One thing you need to do that i just recently did was a 2015 front end swap on my 2010 made the front end so aggressive & so much better looking found all the parts for $300 on offerup headlights bumper & hood
Adding J pipes to your exhaust is supposed to get rid of the drone with straight pipes. SOLO makes a kit. I'm looking into it myself. Nice looking car!
Ay I had the same problem, so I got a Stealthy black Durango with an obnoxious engine in it for the days I want to blend in... but still pass everything but a gas station. ;)
Dude if you don't like the straight pipe exhaust put two mufflers on it to quite it down some.I love the color and seats I don't like those black rims they have no flash like chome, aluminum or polished aluminum rims do but you have a nice car build there.👍
The quickest way to hate your 5th Gen if you take long trips is swapping out the exhaust. Most aftermarket exhausts are going to drone unless you do it the right way and that gets expensive with little gain in performance.
On the cold air system, it really seems to be a matter of personal preference. I have the Z/28 system on mine mainly because I like the factory look. Looks like it came with it from the factory.
I like my exhaust on my 11 vert... headers into a (stock I think) collector back set of cats with mufflers.... when you start it it gives a growl that let's people know this isn't a 6cylender... then it's very subdued... right up until you mash that right peddle... then she will tell you what's what... then when I'm done being a hooligan we can go back to subdued. The best of both .... I think
I feel like the straight pipe could have been fine if this wasn't your daily car. But as a daily car, i find it's too much, especially with those long tube headers.
I have a straight piped 2010 2SS. (No muffler, no res, 7/8 long tubes, x-pipe and high flow cats) It's honestly really not that bad unless you really get on it. I work and live near a police station and never even get looks from cops when I'm crusing past them. I also don't have much drone either. With my music going, I barely hear the car from the cabin. The concern for this setup is a bit exaggerated. I do have the L99 though. I'm not sure if that makes a difference at all. Adding a cam with that set-up would be a different story.
I disagree, even with headers a straight pipe will make your camaro ss sound pretty good but not obnoxiously loud. Now if you had a Mustang GT then yes it’s obnoxious. Plus the only time a camaro is truly loud is if you either Gun it or have Cams. I have a 2010 camaro 2ss and I had long tubes with straight pipe as well and I loved it. I changed it to highflow cats mainly because I live in Cali and there’s no way I could pass smog with long tubes.
@@Fade2BlackSSI agree, a cam will definitely be too loud and you’ll definitely get a Cop on your ass. I was pulled over once but only because I floored it right next to a cop. Camaros sound amazing with a cam set up.

Personally I don’t think I’ll get rid of my 2010 silver camaro 2SS. It’s just so much fun to drive and they look amazing even after 13 years. It’s funny, mustangs tend to be faster but I see way more mustang GTs on Craigslist or being sold on the street more often than a camaro ss. For every 10 mustang gts I see maybe 2 5th gen camaro ss being sold on the street.
I had a 2019 Challenger R/T some years back. A mid-muffler delete and h-pipe with the stock rear resonators sound sounded great. Deep sound, not too loud until you get on it especially in sport mode. Never had any issue with cops or anything like that. If you ever decide to go back, I'd recommend that setup. It won't break your wallet either. Just keep in mind that on the Challenger and Charger the mufflers are in the middle. The resonators are in the rear. There are some shops that will argue that and they are incorrect. Don't let them tell you otherwise. Lol.
