- Lisa Gade reviews the Wacom active digitizer and pen feature on the Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga convertible Windows 8 Ultrabook with 4th generation Intel Haswell ULV Core CPUs (we use the base Core i5, 4 gigs RAM and 128 gig SSD in this video). The Wacom version of the ThinkPad Yoga has a reduce glare full HD display and it comes with a Wacom pen. We test art programs, note taking and PDF annotation after installing Wacom Feel drivers for tablet PC that adds pressure sensitivity for WinTab programs like Photoshop. We test Adobe Photoshop CS6, SketchBook Pro, Fresh Paint, One Note, MS Reader (PDF annotation) and Adobe Reader. Watch our full review of the ThinkPad Yoga here: • Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga R...

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank MTR for doing these reviews because it can be exceptionally hard to find decent reviews of digitizers, A lot of review sites just gloss over that aspect altogether.
You're welcome :) It helps that art is a hobby of mine.
MobileTechReview It shows! :)
Thanks for the demo of the digitizer. Ive been wanting to see how it works on this machine for a while now. Thanks again and keep up the good work love your reviews.
WOWWWW! You colored that bird beautifully! Gorgeous! Awesome job! So happy you can get that kind of detail!
Great review!
You're the only professional journalist out there giving focus to this aspect of the tablet market. Thanks! Keep it up!
Great attention to detail. The fact you came back with the pen review after the full review. Thank you.
Hi Lisa, truly appreciate your reviews ... especially focused on the digitizer!
You're awesome. Just saying. Love your reviews. Always informative, detailed, and accurate. Well done.
I used this to make my buying decision. This review is exactly what I needed. Thank you so much! :]
Awesome review; Thank you! Just ordered my lenovo :) can't wait!
Awesome review, thanks for this! Its so hard to find reviews specific to the Wacom Tablet pen functions for us artists!
As a side note, its pronounced "WAH-come." It took me about a year to break away from pronouncing it "WAY-come," since quite frankly way sounds much better!
Just bought one. I can't wait for it to come!!
Thanks for sharing the tip with the new wacom driver! ....works great for Samsung Slate PC Tablet!!!! ....a lot more accurateness in the edges! Love it!
Thanks for the demo, Lisa! Hope to see reviews of the Fujitsu T904, Q704 and Q584 from you as well. It´s getting increasingly difficult to decide between so many alternatives.
I ordered a thinkpad yoga 12.5" with digitizer
From Amazon which arrives by march 1.
I have an old IBM thinkpad bought 16 years
Ago. I just love the keyboard which allows me to type at lightning speed.
I want to thank you Lisa so much for all of your videos. I find you to be the best
Computer/device commentator.
I'll let you know how I find this yoga once I get it. 💁
Thanks Lisa! This is exactly what I'm looking for!
thank you Lisa for the review!
Hi, could you demonstrate palm rejection as well? This is critical for note-takers.
Hi Lisa, I was wondering if you are going to review the Wacom Cintiq Companion/Companion Hybrid. They look interesting for sure.
Hey Lisa,
Great review. I am a student and I have a surface pro 1. I use it a lot for taking notes in class with one note. The pen is the main reason I got it. I wanted to upgrade to a surface pro 2 for the better battery life, but then I saw your reviews of the thinkpad yoga and vaio duo 13. I like them more because of the bigger screens compared to the surface. I should mention that I had a bad experience with the the thinkpad tablet 2, where the pen stopped working at the center of the screen sometimes which bothered me in class, so I had to return it.
Do you think the thinkpad yoga has the same pen problem. Because I am kind of leaning towards it because of the flexible viewing angles, but then again the duo has a better battery life.
Also, can you mention any major differences between the yoga and duo? a smackdown would be really nice if you have the time :)
Thanks
awesome review! i did not know that that had tilt recognition in the pen, i only ever seen that in the wacom companions.
Thank you ! I've been looking for this. I'll raise a statue for you ahah
appreciate your clear review, it's really awesome. tq.
Which models have the pen? this Info is never included on Amazon and suchlike. It is driving me mad :-)
Awesome! Thank you for this video.
Thanks Lisa! Great help
Thank you for a great review. What is the model of the replacement stylus that you switch to using at 2:52. Can you give a model number?
.just wanted to wish you and your family a happy holiday!
Very useful review. I've never liked Windows, but the more I watch your reviews and play around with devices at electronics stores, the more it seems like the Windows universe has much more versatile hardware than any other OS. Major mobile OS's are simply not powerful enough. Will have to give MS a rethink.
i've been hiding under a rock with technology toys... i woke up. i'm elated like a little kid in a candy store. cheesus crisp, this is amazing - the features and price point seems more affordable!! i can't wait to get my hands on one.
Please someone tell me what the second pen she uses is? I really want a pen that allows you to erase quickly for note taking. Thanks!
hello, thanks for a informative video, do you know of a list of compatible wacom digitizers?
Thank you for the review. Will the eraser on the stylus for my old Thinkpad X61 automatically work on the Thinkpad Yoga? Or at least the second stylus in your review?
Dear Lisa Gade, Thank you for such a beautiful description. I have recently bought Lenovo Yoga 500 and am facing the issues with touch screen as I am always getting weired lines while drawing straight lines. This is bothering me. I need some help. Currently I am using Jotpro pen and Sketchable app
Please review HP Split x2 with haswell processor! If possible, make a smackdown with sufrace 2 and asus t300 :-)
Really good value for money, trouble is I dont have the money. Will have to stick with my Wacom bamboo for now.. Thanks Lisa great demo.
Thank you for your review... :)
Hi Lisa, thanks for the review. Can you confirm that the Yoga supports pen tilt? This is a feature that my Cintiq 22hd supports. I'm looking for a portable solution that also has this and the Cintiq companion is expensive!
Lisa,
Since I found you. My life has changed. Now I know where to turn if I want buy the latest toy (laptop) for personal/business use. My question here is: Can I still use a Wacom pen with the yoga ThinkPad that does not come with it?
Thank you so much for such GREAT REVIEWS!!!!!.
Thanks for this great review! But I have one question. The free, metro edition of OneNote is now also "adapted" for Android, right? But the Android version on my Galaxy Note 10.1 just doesn't accept handwriting - but I have a digitiser? If I want to take notes in OneNote, do I really need a Surface or some other W8 tablet? Hoping for a reply :)
Thank you so much for your excellent reviews, Lisa. I just ordered a Thinkpad Yoga with a digitizer screen thanks, in no small part, to your excellent videos on the device. I want to buy a better Wacom stylus--mostly for handwriting--but I'm having trouble determining which ones the Yoga will support. If we download drivers from Wacom, will all their styluses work? What would you recommend? Thanks!
The Wacom Bamboo Feel "Graphite" Edition. I've find it to be best pen for these types of Wacom Enabled tablets. The only pens/stylus that will work have Wacom's "FeelIT" compatibility, so may as well just stick with Wacom. Don't get a "Capacitive" by mistake. It must be the FeelIT type.
I am not a business type at all but I like to draw the toons.
I'm very happy with my ThinkPad Yoga.
It's magic but a little on the expensive side considering the competition.
Consider the Samsung Note Pro 12.2 as a cheaper alternative though.
It also has a Wacom digitizer and an HD screen.
Great reviews Lisa.
i really want one of those
Hi Lisa! Please do a review of the Dell Inspiron 7000 Series, specifically the 15 inch version! Please please please! I'm really considering it but I've read that it has trouble with wifi or something like that...
Hi Lisa!
What stylus you are using in your review (not the Lenovo one)? You state that it is Wacom Tablet PC stylus, but can you provide some details (product id or similiar and where to buy one)? Does this stylus work with Surface Pro?
Hi, I currently own a Yoga ThinkPad laptop. At one point, the pen that came with the laptop had stopped functioning properly and only produced thin pen strokes at high pressure only when it touched the screen at a certain angle. Is there a way to solve this issue?
Thanks
Lisa is the screen just as shiny as any tablet or does it have the usual thinkpad anti glare screen?
Hi Lisa, Could you please tell me if that yoga allows you take notes (handwriting)? For example, when I go to classes and need to take notes, shot the board with the explanation of the teacher, etc.
Lisa, can you please supply a link to the drivers you mentioned to get pressure sensativity. TY
so did you have to install a driver to use the stylus? bc I just got a Lenovo miix 510 and it came with a stylus but the screen does not respond to it
good thing they fixed the black hole problem. But now I am really stuck to get this 12.5" or the Vaio 15"....
Which Pen would you recommend that also has the feature of pen pressure sensivity?
youtube won't let me reply to the comment directly, but as for the person below me talking about annotating ppt slides - you can save them as pdf's and annotate that way. no, it's not the same thing, but until you find a way to do it this might be a helpful alternative :)
Lisa, which hybrid laptop tablet that you've tested has been the best with the digitizer pen?
we need to know how to set up buttons ....... please explain in a new video..... when i try to highlight ..... it wont highlight, it moves the paper from side to side or up and down
Hi! I have a question about this: I write and draw like my hands touching the paper. Could theese tablets know when am I with pen and when with bare fingers?
Lisa, thanks for adding the wacom pen review, very useful. How would you compare ThinkPad Yoga and Sony Flip 13A for business meeting notes taking, automated handwriting recognition (on custom forms and templates) and for book reading purposes? How would you rate lagging/sensitivity of two pen technologes (Sony's N-trig pen I saw in other review is auckwardly heavier toward the back side of the pen and one needs to land pen on the screen first before the hand rests on), How would you compare screen glare-wise and reading/scrolling. What are your thoughts? Could you possibly make a smakdown between those two? Thanks for best in class reviews!
The Flip 13 and ThinkPad Yoga are similar when it comes to using the pen for note taking and handwriting recognition. They're both quick and efficient for the task.
For those who are looking for the way how to identify pen-enabled Yoga ultrabooks look for the ThinkPad Yoga S1 series models. On a picture you must see a place for the pen on the right corner of the ultrabooks keypad side. They are sold with different hardware (cpu, ram, hdd etc), but not sure about nVidia video cards on S1 series.
all the s1's have the pen slot (they have a blank insert installed on non-penabled versions). the better indicator is screen resolution, all Pena bled s1's have a 1920x1080 screen, the non-penabled versions are 1280x768.
+fwdixoniii Thanks for the extra clarification.
Lenovo home page however says, that pen-able screen is an extra option for the better resolution screen.
So those who are going to buy pen-able Yoga, be careful.
Hello Lisa, i would like to know what wacom model pen did you use. Thanks.
Getting one for class during Quarantine, can this tech run Photoshop, Storyboard Pro and Sketchbook Pro? Need for my animation classes lol
Hi Lisa, is it possible to annotate pdfs within onenote and can I search the pdf?
Good pen, but its looks like your hand floating above laptop ?
is any mode hand off recognize/only pan recognize?
thanks great work
You mention that the 20CD0032US and 33US don't include the pen, but can you buy one aftermarket an it still work? Or is there software that is included on the version of the Yoga that includes the wacom pen?
I know that it has the palm cancellation, but Is it possible to completely disable the touch and still have the pen working? I'm considering getting one, but I'd be too scared of ruining any pictures I draw by resting my palm on the screen.
What is the model number for the Wacom pen?
If you want to calibrate the edges you can use this command (in cmd) to calibrate your pen:
tabcal lincal novalidate XGridPts=0,30,50,150,350,650,945,1240,1540,1740,1840,1890,1919 YGridPts=0,30,50,150,350,630,830,1030,1050,1079
Lisa,
I have been having problems using the full version of OneNote 2013 on my Thinkpad Tablet 2, mostly it is just slow. It is especially evident when I try to use the lasso select tool to highlight my writing or sketches (lots of Mathematics notes). Do you think this is something that I will run into with the Thinkpad Yoga (or really any of the notebooks with Core processors?)
Thanks a bunch.
I have a Bamboo Pen & Touch tablet. Can I use that pen on the Thinkpad Yoga 15 - is it a digitizer tablet?
Do you know if the Bamboo CTH-670 pen will work on the yoga? I've been trying to get it to work for awhile now.
How do you set up the wacom pen to use on the yoga screen not the wacom pad?
Hi, Lisa. Thanks for the demo. I have a question. Is the update for the digitizer to fix the issue a firmware update or a driver update? i.e. do I just have to install it once and never have to worry about it, or will I have to install it every single time I do a reformat?
It's a firmware update.
Firmware
MobileTechReview
Excellent, thanks for the reply.
How does it feel when the keyboard is on the desk, don't you think of scratches and friction?
Hi Lisa;
I just bought a lenova Yoga 15 and I am looking to buy a pen that I can take notes with. I don't know much about this so if you recommend me a pen could you also let me know if I need to download any firmware of programs. I appreciate your help.
I bought this and the tip of the pen fell off in 6 weeks. I cannot find the exact product to purchase. I want the one that recharges in the slot without batteries. Can you help?
Does the pen works on ubuntu?
How many varieties of Wacom pens will function with the Yoga?
Will a Wacom Bamboo pen work on it?
Particularly the new Yoga Pro 3 has me interested, but it's really difficult to get to try all the devices out there.
Seems most PCs are crap these days. If it's not the software, it's the bizarre choices in ports. I'm on the Yoga 2 right now, and I'm probably going to return it like the several Surface models before it.
I'm interested in getting a yoga and a stylus like this to use with staffpad, but iv been told that not all of staff pads features will work with anything but the surface stylus, is this true? what's the difference?
Does anyone know if there's another brand stylus works with this convertible ? And where can I find a replacement for the original ?
Does the Lenovo Yoga 13 able to use a Wacom pen, too? (Thank u)
Does this also work like this for the Flex 2? I want to draw on it, but I'm not sure, if I could buy it.
im getting this laptop soon what better pen would work.all wacoom, what about surface pro 2 ones.
which pen are you using? I would like to buy a stylus that works in this computer and I haven´t been able to find any that promises to be compatible...
Hi Lisa, what other things can the digitizer be used for ?
I have one this laptop but havent used the pen, Because Im scared it might scratch the screen? Is it safe for that or not
informative video . thank you :)
Hello! I have a convertible laptop Lenovo Yoga 300, and I'm using a pen for the touch screen, but its too thick for write, draw and other functions... my question is: the pen for Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga (in this video) its compatible for my device too? If not, what pen I need?? Thnx very much for any info :D
Tried samsung note 10 fills a bit not natural due to small lag(also here in the video)
Isn't there a a pen /tablet than enables wrting without any lag?
I bought a lenovo digitizer pen separetly, do I have to download anything to make it work?
does the palm rejection also work during note taking on one note?
Hey Lisa, I purchased the Thinkpad S1 Yoga. It has 4gb ram, and 128gb state drive. It also comes with a digitizer. The price tag was pretty steep. I am looking for a Lenovo alternative that also supports a digitizer. In this review, are you using the Lenovo Thinkpad S1 Yoga? If you are not, then can you tell me what Lenovo you are using, please?
I have a very interesting question and very important to me. Can you use that pen with a Surface Pro 4,if please check, please!
which model of Wacom pen you use in this video? I try Wacom pen model lo 171 (one by Wacom) but it doesn't work on my ThinkPad Yoga which is support pen.
Can you review the new Lenovo yoga book?
Hello Lisa! How do you erase using the digitilizer pen?
there is any problem in touching your hand while you are drawing ?
can anyone tell me where you can buy the this Wacom version of the Thinkpad Yoga? i've been looking everywhere online for days and every single one i've found lacks it. thanks for any help.
So is it really good for art? Even better than the surface 3?
Can you support your entire hand without being detected?
Where can I find wacom drivers compatible with a yoga 11e
It is possible to use galaxy note 3 s pen on it?
