Any comments on actual feel and design? Does the plastic looks and feel cheap and archaic? What's your view on keyboard lift and lock feature? Do you actually often find yourself using the tab mode with pen on win 10, or it's something you play with at the start for fun, but soon stop doing so as not really practical and comfortable?!
I'll start off by stating my specs: i7 6500U, 8GB Ram, 500GB SSHD, Win10, also with Fingerprint Scanner. Love the general aesthetic and design; straight lines and flat surfaces are my thing. Also like the material used. It is a high quality smooth plastic that looks really sleek. The trackpad is really nice and smooth and the trackpoint is the first I've used so can't compare. Generally it's not the lightest thing ever but thin and light enough for me. The general build feels solid and rigid, owing I imagine to the carbon fibre. There is a little bit of screen wobble when you move it with your finger, and while it doesn't bounce when typing, it is noticible with the pen in stand mode. Speaking of which, I do indeed use the pen feature, but mainly for note taking in one note, and filling out things like exam papers on my laptop. The pen can be a little glitchy every now and then, the software's pointer can get stuck to the left of the screen while I'm trying to write in the middle. I mainly use the pen in tablet mode on a flat desk so it is more stable. The keyboard itself is lovely! Standard Thinkpad quality here, lovely smooth keys, nice actuation. It feels like you are typing with intent. I'm still getting used to the Fn and Ctrl being switched, and the general slight variation in size of keys from other laptops, but that will come soon. I do like the lift'n'lock feature, however don't imagine the keyboard area is going to be like a rigid block of steel when locked in place, it's a little mushy but nothing actuates. The actual lift'n'lock plastic itself is a bit cheap, thin and flexible. It stays pretty rigid when locked, but feels a little looser otherwise. It's not a problem for me, but since you asked. The only thing I do wish it had was ethernet. You can buy adapters, I personally feel like USB3 ones are a better choice than the one-link because they'll be plenty fast enough and much cheaper than lenovo's proprietary one. And I think I've run out of things to say hardware wise. Do ask me anything else but I'm by no means an expert.
Well I paid around £760 for mine. But prices vary wildly depending on specs, region and exchange rates. ( I also used a 10% discount code). It's best you do your own research for your region.
The BestBuy version comes in only one CPU configuration and has soldered on RAM, not expandable. So, discrete graphics are a good benefit, but otherwise, it's a consumer grade machine.
The low score is because the machine is working in single channel (only 1 sodimm slot for ram). I much prefer dual channel memory as integrated graphics also get severely implacted, more so than the processor.
currently waiting on my yoga 460 here in australia, lenovo currently has on sale with 50% off, offer ends tonight australia time 12am. i got mine with core i7, 256ssd (sata3), wqhd screen, 2gb dedicted graphics, 16gb ram, windows 10 home, inte dual wireless, 4.1 bluetooth and fingerprint reader. $1350 australian dollars, fingers crossed cause at this price it has great specs. converts to around $1000 us dollars with sale
Hi lisa, great review! One question, what is that slot to the left of the RAM and cpu at 8:00? It looks like a 42x22mm M.2 slot... perhaps for a small SSD? haven't seen one of those in a while.
It appears to be a half height M.2 slot, though I can't tell if it's actually got active solder traces on the board. My guess is it's there for future WWAN or WiGiG options, should Lenovo decide to offer those. It's completely ignored in Lenovo's service documentation, so I can only guess.
I use the M.2 slot for SSD on an older yoga 14, so I imagine it should work... what's more interesting is the SIM-like tray at the top, about 1/3 length from the left
The one reviewed was not the OLED version. The OLED version just came out a couple of weeks ago. I ordered one, but the shipping has been delayed by about a month, due to overwhelming demand. I think the only major difference with the OLED version is just the image quality of the display, being much brighter (around 480 nits, according to the customer service rep I talked to, although on their website it's shown incorrectly as 300 nits), with higher saturation, and much wider color gamut (should be 100% Adobe RGB, I'm guessing).
For gaming, 2-in-1 laptop/tablet hybrids are not ideal, because they need to be very light, so you can't cram heavy-duty discreet graphics cards in there, and there isn't as much room for ventilation to keep the heat down. If you want serious performance, the laptop will be quite large and heavy usually. But it depends on whether you play demanding current AAA games or not. As for whether the price to quality/performance ratio is worth it, I do feel it's overpriced, but it's the only one that has the features I want currently (high-quality stylus for doing visual art that can be stored inside the laptop instead of attaching to the exterior, OLED screen with high color gamut and brightness/contrast), one of the best laptop keyboards (I'm also a writer so I type a lot), and under 3 lbs.
I tried the Yoga 12 today at Fry's. Excellent keyboard... The Yoga 12's was not clicky, had good key travel and good key spacing. Keyboard, keyboard, keyboard. That is what matters when you are typing all day long. For comparison take, I also tried the Dell XPS 13's, Asus 303's and the LG Gram's keyboards-- all seemed like afterthoughts with barely any engineering time expended to make them usable and not a health risk. BUT knowing Lenovo I have to wonder if the Yoga 460 already has a different keyboard?
I bought this laptop 1.5 months ago and never regret this decision! I love it and sometimes I am still amazed by its design and convenience! yes, it is quite heavy in today standard but its versatility is my primary concern. Buttom line: if you have a few hundred dollars to spare, go for the Thinkpad yoga X1; if not, this is your best option:)
The Yoga 460 from Lenovo has an option for a QHD screen. The Best Buy version does not, and it only has an i5 CPU. So unfortunately you have to choose if you live in the U.S.: faster processor and better screen vs. dedicated graphics. I find that to be a very annoying choice given the fact that the P40 Yoga is the only alternative with a GPU and is a bit more expensive.
Yes they are only available in Australia and some European stores. Ordering from campuspoint, for example, costs over $1,500 USD excluding shipping, making it too expensive to be reasonable when you can just get the P40 in the U.S.
another fantastic review 😀. Do you know if they made a deal with Intel because all their new products come with Intel graphics now instead of nividia like they used to. and any yoga you recommend for gaming and business?
Hi Lisa. Thanks for the great review. I noticed that when I customized it from the Lenovo Website (Singapore), when I chose the 1TB HDD option, it came with a 16GB M.2 Solid State Drive. But when I looked at the internals of the laptop from your video, I don't see the slot. Please advise. Thanks.
@@paulojamero9670 I don't remember but it's not a normal M2 nvme, it's shorter. I think 42mm and it's not nvme. In my opinion it's not worth it. A 2.5 sata sata is more than enough, you will see no difference with a m2 nvme. Buy a 870 evo from samsung.

@@mzohaibawan3647 They are very good bro. when i got mine was a few years ago. I had a small pencil type thing with mine, you can flip the screen 360 degrees and fold it. Watching this on a Thinkpad yoga 460. Love this machine, the only downside of this is lacking of a numberpad. But you can easily add an external one while keeping the size of the whole machine down. Really sweat piece of tech. If you are considering this machine, just consider if you really need a 2-in-1 convertable. If not, go for x1 carbon cuz it's lighter. Overall, no complaint.
Hey Lisa! Your reviews are lovely as always. Could you please review the newly released hp envy x360 with 4k display (it has i76560, 16gigs of ram-Released in april 2016). Thank you ☺️
This is a great review. I upgraded my 20FY0002US with more memory and added second storage using the M.2 slot. Works great and I am - really - happy with the machine in every way except one. Performance, speed, battery, stylus are all great! I have the dock attached to two high resolution monitors and they work well... Except... my 460 doesn't have the NVIDIA graphics and I really miss it when sharing screens (Skype or other) or using any kind of video editor/ video capture. The CPU alone just can't handle the graphics load when sharing screens or capturing video, and thus the machine slows down quite dramatically. It is my only complaint and it does not seem that the graphics is upgradeable. Darn... Otherwise nearly perfect for the money.
Do companies not make tablets anymore? I feel they used to be much more popular a couple of years ago. Anyways I am looking for a new tablet with a stylus max 10 inches (preferably non-Apple made). I would just need it mostly for reading pdfs and highlighting said pdfs, any recommendations, that won't break the bank? I currently own a nexus 7 v2 and surface 2, would the hp pro slate 8 be an upgrade?
if you were to compare usability with the spectre x360, which would you rather choose? I'm trying to decide between the two, and I'm struggling to determine if the bettery battery life of the spectre is more worth it relative to the better pen response of the 460.

WHY SILVER THO >,< I'm not a big fan of (non-black) thinkpads. For $600, my thinkpad e560 works perfect, still haven't used the free windows 10 pro upgrade yet.
Hi, i was wonderring if all the yoga series ( even the yoga 500 for example) have a stylus ? And if they don't if we can download the wacom app for presure and use a wacom pen, like on the thinkpad yoga ?
I would love to put KDE Neon .... Linux is secure and MS IS NEVER ... your the best Lisa when i am looking for the goods i trust your truth telling ...congrats
I don't know why they're doing silver now when all the other manufacturers are starting to move away from that look. They should do a steel grey or something more industrial looking.
Infuriating strategy of Lenovo: announced the 460 to have dedicated graphics globally available, then only USA and Australia got it with that. For Europe no Geforce, only the integrated graphics. Also it was announced with QHD option, yet not a single SKU has it...

is it possible to write with the Pen on the Screen When your hand is touching the Screen? or do i need to keep My hand above the Touchscreen thank you:)
I'm thinking about buying a laptop/utrabook with stylus support. I looking for a durable, reliable laptop that will last me a long time. A good screen is a plus. At the moment I'm set on getting dell latitude 7350. But thinkpads are known for their ruggedness. Could someone advice me on this? Also looked into specte x360, but it seems to be focused on beigng flashy rather than reliable.
This laptop is essentially for people who like tinkering with laptop I reckon. I don't think that this is a product for people who want something that will be their everything right out of the box. But if you do like tinkering, this is technically almost a surface book for half of the price.
Hi Lisa, I bought my 1st year uni student/artist daughter a Yoga 460. I thought it would be good for her work as it's small, has the 2GB graphics (helps with some of her work), fast SSD & 8GB RAM. After having it a month or so, it's deciding to do this thing I'm only now seeing a LOT of-- "no drivers installed" when she tries to use her Wacom Pro, or "driver not started"....sometimes she loses the touchpad & trackball, too. It seems that the active pen doesn't like the Wacom Pro. Lenovo is offering to work on it (format & start over), but she's got so much installed now for uni, we're hoping for a miracle to fix the d*mned thing. I doubt them formatting it will fix the issue. Can you offer any knowledge about this?

Hi, i was wonderring if all the yoga series ( even the yoga 500 for example) have a stylus ? And if they don't if we can download the wacom app for presure and use a wacom pen, like on the thinkpad yoga ?
yoga 500 doesn't have pen support. I think Only thinkpad yoga and X series have pen support.
It does really look bad in silver. You don't want cheap plastic looks to be highlighted. you want them discrete, thus black and classie.
my only gripe is the serial number sticker. it comes off way to easy.
I would like you guys to compare with SF pro 4.... Now I really confuse to make decision to but which one.
Do the people who design these computers hate good looking computers? This thing looks like it was designed in 2005.
Infuriating strategy of Lenovo: announced the 460 to have dedicated graphics globally available, then only USA and Australia got it with that. For Europe no Geforce, only the integrated graphics. Also it was announced with QHD option, yet not a single SKU has it...
do u recommend lenovo ideapad 500 for personal use as downloading movies and watch on line movies
iwant to buy a laptop and confused between lenovo ideapad or dell insperon 5558

is it possible to write with the Pen on the Screen When your hand is touching the Screen? or do i need to keep My hand above the Touchscreen
thank you:)
"woah, kinda retro here"
Haha, yes it is a bit old, but you can easily purchase a M.2 SSD to SATA converter pretty easily! :D
Lisa! When you'll review Asus Flip series?
Hello, is this a good option for an architecture student?
I'm thinking about buying a laptop/utrabook with stylus support. I looking for a durable, reliable laptop that will last me a long time. A good screen is a plus. At the moment I'm set on getting dell latitude 7350. But thinkpads are known for their ruggedness. Could someone advice me on this? Also looked into specte x360, but it seems to be focused on beigng flashy rather than reliable.
Not sure if I should get an ultra book like this or a MacBook Pro, help me.
if you want durability go thinkpad
Do you want touch screen and pen functionality? Few laptops have this technology in a 2 in 1
The HP Spectre x360 and Vaio Flip Z are convertibles with both pen and touch.
I agree with you. I am only thinking thinkpad x1, or to wait till December and get a Microsoft Surface 2.
This laptop is essentially for people who like tinkering with laptop I reckon. I don't think that this is a product for people who want something that will be their everything right out of the box. But if you do like tinkering, this is technically almost a surface book for half of the price.
Is the trackpad glass like the X1 Carbon's?
where did you get the tux doll from?
How much is the yoga 460?
fantastic :)
Can you offer any knowledge about this?
who's the thinner the New razer blade or the macbook pro ?
If this had Thunderbolt 3 Usb C and an Ethernet port this would be a true steal. Sigh
For ethernet, you can get adapter. Lenovo offers it. However, I do feel USB-C would have been great (instead of one of the USBs)
Yoga 460 support DDR4 ram???

Praying that the lift and lock is 10x better than the previous thinkpad yoga. It is cheap garbage. I know because I am currently typing on one
which model are you using? so you would not recommend the 460?!
Osman Yousaf I'm using the thinkpad Yoga 14. No stylus.
Prefer ThinkPad signature BLACK...
