Maunika, You don't know how thankful I am for this upload. My mom isn't around to make biriyani and I really really miss it, and I feel I can't cook it, after watching this great and simple recipe, I will finally attempt to make biriyani. Thank you so much!!!
Easy College Friendly Rookie Biryani: Ingrediants: Chicken 250 gm Biryani Masala 3 tbsp (get this at your nearist desi store, shaan is a nice one) Yogurt 3 tbsp fried onion 3 tbsp (can fry your own or get a pack) chopped tomatoes 1 (or 2 tbsp of tomato puree or even cheap pasta sauce) green chilli 1 would do rice one serving (160gm) Ginger garlic paste 1 tbsp (if you can afford some) water 250 ml Mix masala in the yogurt and just drop everything into a rice cooker and mix well. Cook until done and thank me later. Sincerely, A cheap college student
I remember you from the butter chicken recipe you gave sometime ago on this channel Maunika, and I have never failed since. Thank you for showing yet another brilliant Indian preparation.
one tip for cooking the rice that she missed. Take basmati rice and shock it for 30-40 min before cooking & then cook the rice in water seasoned with salt and oil (make sure the water is salty must taste like sea water), what it does is give u nice fluffy rice that don't stick together also makes you rice nicely seasoned. Then cook the rice until its 90% done. after that follow the recipe Enjoy your cooking :)
Joe P depends where you live, if you have a Chinatown district or Asian area in your area, try there, these ingredients aren't so hard to find, it's mainly spices, and chicken.
PhilyCheese India has a whole wide range of accents. They usually pick the harshest ones to get some laughs. But I think it's safe to say that most educated urban Indians sound like her.
I made it and it's gorgeous! I knew it would be a success when I was seasoning it and tasted it. The chicken part was 100% as described, but I forgot to buy saffron and simplified the recipe even more :D Doesn't matter, the chicken makes up for it. Loving the heat, too. Thanks Maunika for simplifying this recipe for us! I am glad I did not give up.
that's the beauty of Indian cooking... so many ingredients to experiment that you can make multiple version of a single dish!! just like this recipe, it is so different from traditional lucknawi or hyderabadi but I can assure it is delicious just by looking at it!!
I've lived there for 3 months and I can't agree with you. Very "aggressive" spices become very easy repetitive. Even now when I cook at home my native food when I get a slight scent on something that resembles Indian food it simply does not work on me. We have also a very limited amount of spices and ingredients that are going in food, however, Indians do not know how chicken tastes as it is always dipped well into spices. The same spices are used on fish. If you smell curry or this biryani, 90% (if not more) spices are the same. Just gets into your nose and it does not work equally. Biryani (with mutton) was excellent and my most enjoyable food in those 3 months.
We made this recipe and it came out delicious, so delicous we made it again 2 days later 😂 we had zero experience with Indian food but we bought all the spices we lacked. Very easy to make!!! Loved it!
I used this recipe for my first ever Chicken Briyani and all I can say is Thank You! It's really easy to make and really delicious! Thank you again and God Bless
This is actually one of the easiest biryani recipes I've seen--most biryani dishes require a lot more work! Not only is the outcome beautifully-dished out, but it also looks tasty! Thank you for sharing this recipe with us, Maunika!
biriyani is a difficult dish to master the traditional way first of all it takes......way longer this is easy peasy in comparison. thanks so much for this! hoping to make it this weekend.
Please don't dare speak the truth, the snowflakes are horrified. I used the recipe and it worked beautifully, the bonus being that she is also beautiful, gorgeous in fact
I’ve done this with roasted chicken and roasted lamb i cut them up into small pieces then I marinated both in the yogurt mixture after cooking the meats. I also cooked the rice in homemade chicken stock both times. One mug of rice to one mug of boiling stock and one mug of boiling water then simmer on low with lid on for 15 minutes I used Tilda basmati. Absolutely gorgeous
Thanks Maunika. Its looks super easy. Cook desi chicken, then add cooked Basmati Rice layer wise. Add saffron milk and corriander in every layer, and then simmer. Lo. Done. Awesome.
the spices are the hardest part of this dish, what were the other parts? Fry some chicken, garlic, tomatoes and onions... if you can't fry that god help you.
lots to see pretty much everywhere, weather is kinda unpredictable, it gets really cold in the winter and really hot in the summer and in between theres lots of rain... people may seem a little reserved to outsiders, especially older people but that comes from the attitude of getting to know people a little rather than just having small talk. We have great food especially in bavaria and of course great beers too. And we like to drink a lot here.
There are two perfect dishes...enchiladas with corn tortillas and red sauce, and chicken biryani. And I'm not sure if that's the order anymore. I grew up in California, but I've been all over the U.S., lived in Canada, in the UK...chicken biryani is perfection.
Thank you so much for this recipe! I made it tonight, although without saffron as that was the only ingredient I didn't have in the pantry, and it was amazingly easy. Hard to believe I didn't spend hours on the final dish. Delicious and I will be subscribing for more of your content
Visiting second time. I tried it. Added an extra step and it paid off. While adding the rice, take the chicken out, add some rice beneath the layer of chicken. Believe me, that layer of rice at the bottom is the closest thing to heaven you'll ever see.
It's a beautiful name. They always messed mine so I just say write Sunny. One lady put a sun and a smily face lol...guess she thought I was bubbly and pretty lol..was nice.
I made this today by watching your video over and over to catch the steps and measurements since it's not posted on the website yet. Turned out well- thanks!
Never heard of tomatoes in Biryani, but then i always make Raw/'Kacchi' Biryani and not the 'Pakki' . Also the yogurt adds enough tang to the dish, adding tomatoes will add more sourness and unwanted sweetness and moisture overwhelming other gentle flavours and even cause rice to get soggy due to more moisture than required. You missed out on Ghee/clarified butter on the rice, adds that authentic flavour, for non-Indians, a couple of tablespoons of butter will also do, they will give the smoothness to rice (like olive oil gives to pasta after draining the water) and it is easy to swallow and does not form those painful lumps in your throat that can happen with certain rice centric dishes.
Hi, the Biryani recipe is quite simple and easy to make. I would suggest you should have a thick layer of rice at the bottom first and then add the chicken mix on top of it. This would help the flavours of the chicken to mix with the rice in the bottom. You can have the plain rice as a top layer which is glazed with saffron milk.
This is an impressive dish ... her version is simplified but has great taste ... I usually do a much more complicated version but this looks great too - will try!
I have never tasted this dish before, which means it's the perfect time to try this elegant recipe. I'll like it no matter what and not know if I screwed it up haha

I just wish there was cinnamon, cloves, star anise, nutmeg, mace and whole peppercorns in it too... In fact... if you have any of these lying around chuck them in the oil with the cardamom and cumin... Agreed... nice recipe to begin with. How I wish this recipe was there when I was in university missing my dad's biryani.

I made it and it turned out so DELICIOUS!!! i am planning to make a larger amout for people that I will soon invite over,i was wondering what about the ingredients? should i just double them? - thank you
I think the ginger and garlic paste should be added before adding tomatoes. When the onions are frying there is quite a bit of oil and ginger garlic release their raw flavours best in oil
Biryani is my absolute favorite rice dish. I too use boneless, skinless chicken thighs cut into chunks, but when I cook the thighs they release so much of their own water that the thick sauce turns into a soup! I end up removing all that spiced up liquid but in order not to throw all that flavorful goodness away, I mix that to the water I use to cook the rice. The end result is still delicious but I want to know why it never seems to happen to anyone else - I've watched DOZENS of chicken biryani videos!
This looked so good that I didn't have the patience to cook it and immediately went and picked up a Chicken Biryani from the nearest Indian restaurant.
romail john Her biryani was so tasteless that she opted for Salan (Gravy) to add some flavors to it. Who the hell eats Biryani with the Salan? As an Indian, I am offended.
Maunika- your recipes are divine! big fan. I had a question though- when adding garam masala "raw" over the rice- won't the taste be over powering? because technically you aren't cooking out the spice. right? or am I making no sense at all
italians are very proud of their authentic recipes. if you tell an italian to make modifications in his recipe he will get very offended. for example, a simple margarita pizza. the real margarita pizza is simple and authentic and the keep the recipe of it real. the same way, the recipe of biryani we should not disturb. keep it simple and keep it authentic and real! there is no shortcut to a fine biryani.
Tomatoes in a Biriyani? that's a first I've seen. Generally yogurt forms a good base to hold together the spices. You do not need tomatoes. The need for tomatoes in any Indian dish is to a) Give tanginess b) Hold together different flavors. Yogurt does both of them well. So tomatoes are not needed.
As easy as this was and it is easy you left out one very important ingredient..Biryani is a dish of indulgence and sticky bits..This would have been so easy just to do..desi ghee..Why oh why did you leave this out..drizzled with ghee from top to bottom would make this a lot better and then people who have not tasted this dish properly would have at least some idea what this is all about
Maunika, You don't know how thankful I am for this upload. My mom isn't around to make biriyani and I really really miss it, and I feel I can't cook it, after watching this great and simple recipe, I will finally attempt to make biriyani. Thank you so much!!!

Adam Voigt Yep, it wasn't bad for a first timer, with time you'll gte better, and it is easy.
I just made it and the recipe was easy to follow, but I didn't find it very flavourful. Fortunately I made a basic curry sauce to go with it.
I made it...and it was very flavoursome. I for add one more teaspoon. chilli powder though and that helped it be more spicy

Overall is a good performance but hey - The basic ingredients is Ghee and is missing from this recipe.

Wow! Thanks Maunika and Jaimie for bringing her this recipe out. Hope you can post more.👏🏻👏🏻😍😍
As easy as this was and it is easy you left out one very important ingredient..Biryani is a dish of indulgence and sticky bits..This would have been so easy just to do..desi ghee..Why oh why did you leave this out..drizzled with ghee from top to bottom would make this a lot better and then people who have not tasted this dish properly would have at least some idea what this is all about
i wish there were more kerryann vids, when she says it's easy literally easy.....this dish is still some high level cooking
