    Thanks for another chapter of Iron Coffins. Yes, the type XXII was a marvelous advancement in Submarines. Luckily for us, the Germans didn't get them a couple of years earlier.

    To bad our captain didn’t get a Type 21 boat, it would have been great to hear first hand how this boat operated compared to his old boat ! Anxious to hear about his next deployment! See you then ⚓️⚓️⚓️⚓️

      I'd have liked that, too! But he has to deal with the trusty Type VII again. Well see what happens 😎

    He must have been in awe of the type 21.

      Type XXI was ahead of its age, fortunately arrived too late and and too little numbers.

    • @TrenchDiaries
      @TrenchDiaries  Місяць тому +1

      The XXI was practically a late 20th century conventional design deployed in an early 20th century war. The jump in technology was tremendous.

    Anyone else noticed endless numbers of those ww2 channels where ai voice reads these text? I mean this is a real channel but there are channels in all genress where ai voice reads some text and sometimes I wonder whether the text it self is ai gen.

    • @TrenchDiaries
      @TrenchDiaries  Місяць тому +8

      I actually started with the intention of going AI only, because it is eaiser to produce. But narrating myself is more personal and more fun.

      @@TrenchDiaries Don't forget to mention Trench Diaries that we twisted your ear until you agreed to try reading your script yourself! 😢
      We wouldn't have hung around so long or had so much fun if we had just been listening to a AI voice. 😂
      Imagine listening to an Aussie AI voice.
      "Good 'ay mates! How's it hanging?"
      😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
      Oh my poor teachers tried so hard to teach me proper English!

      @@markfryer9880 This channel would not exist with an AI voice, in my view anyhow. We are all here as fans of the material presented, but also/more so of Trench, the presenter. Among many screwball careers, I more than dabbled in professional radio, both as a program director and as an air personality. The first time I heard him, Trench blew my ears out of the water. Note his unique phrasing, his compelling vocal tone and a very uncommon way of modulation in sentences to include how he ends many of them, leaving my ears (at least) hungry for the next one. Yup, Trench has "THE VOICE". A quite remarkable and uncommon gift, actually.👏👏👏👏👏😎

      He is witnessing the collapse in real time. And yes, the Type VIIs are cramped beyond belief.

      @@TrenchDiaries Even the American Gato Class had much more room and air conditioning!
      Those poor Type VII were only small steps forward from the U-Boats of WWI.

I listen to this every night as I fall asleep so I have to repeat many episodes. lol that is not to say it’s boring, quite the contrary. I’ve also been exhausted at work from staying up too late listening
      I plan to buy your audiobooks for road trips( wife might be a problem on that)

    Didn't the type XXI influence Soviet post war boats? I think the Golf was a fairly close copy. The type XX "Walther" boats arrived at this time with a revolutionary propulsion system too. Fortunate for the allies they didn't appear earlier or the war would have dragged on much longer!

    • @TrenchDiaries
      @TrenchDiaries  Місяць тому +1

      Type XXI influenced practically every post-war boat on all sides. Especially the Soviet Whiskey and Zulu boats were rather close in design.

    Of all the ‘wonder weapons’ I have always felt only the XXI was a real game changer - if that beast had been available in numbers in say 43 it could have been a very difficult time in the Atlantic. The V2 was horrible but had limitations - the Me 262 was dangerous but manageable - but the XXI would have been a very difficult beast to handle with then current technology! Ultimately air power would still I figure have prevailed but losses would have been much higher in shipping.

    • @TrenchDiaries
      @TrenchDiaries  Місяць тому

      Most of the so called wonder weapons were smoke and mirrors. The XXI weren't, they were extremely advanced and capable. There are reports of these boats literally running circles around DDs and doing mock attacks without notice.

    Our guy is now the grizzly old veteran now!! What agony, you know that this new boat is paramount to your crew’s survival, but you can only “Soldier “ on with Old equipment!! Man fighting on till the end!! On another note 🗒️ it must’ve been wonderful for the spirits to see his old Commander Ziggy!! Glad they both survived the war!! We all do it to keep sanity, we think only of the machine of the opponent and not the crew in that “ Tank” Airplane, or submarine!! Cheers 🥂 and see you with my favorite character!! Spitfire on my tail!!
