I saw him perform this on his solo tour about a month ago. Absolutely phenomenal. His guitar skills are other worldly. He sings with so much emotion and passion on top of it. He’s a genius.
I don't know what drew me to listen to this song today. My life is good. But man...sometimes you just remember a song and need to hear it. I this this is one of the most beautiful, meaningful songs ever written. Not a wasted word. And the guitar...jeez.
i find the same; this song and never goin back just mesmerise me . have to play both.. something needs to hear them inside.. consoling or emotional need
Buckingham is a genius. F#7 tuning, moving from the bottom of the neck to the 12th fret, complex chords and progressions, all that and singing next to his once lover… what a musician
"It's about coming to the terms with the fact that there can be little gain without some loss, and little redemption without forgiveness."-Lindsey. Powerful statement. Heartbreaking and emotional song. Thank you Lindsey and Stevie!
So very sorry for the loss of your beloved! But never say goodbye, the love is still there, you take it with you! Sending you a big hug from upstate NY!😔❤️🩹🙏🏻🕊️🪽
This is the ULTIMATE Chord Cutting song. For all those lovers and friends who you thought would be there forever but fell through the cracks of Life, this song is for you. ♥
listening to these lyrics makes me wanna cry, not for me , but for them... makes me feel bad that they obviously still love each other yet cant be together. :(
Just saw them perform this in Tampa Friday night, they embraced, he kissed her cheek/forehead & then he walked off the stage with tears; she choked up but no tears. I had front row seats & most of us were in tears as well. My video is no where as good as this one. Will post later- thanks for the share.
This is such a beautiful goodbye love song it really goes into your soul. Linsley's guitar playing is off the wall. Their chemistry is amazing & intense their voices are on point - beautiful. It's a hauntingly soulful song. Regardless that they parted, you can see there's still alot of love for each other.
It had to be done for them and the fans. A fitting conclusion to a very emotional situation. Put a line under this and move on. We all will love you for it. With much love to Lindsey and Stevie.!!👍🏻🙏🏼
My Lord! Haven't heard that song in a while but that is one of the best songs ever written. Timeless, beautiful, captivating, and haunting. What a performance. Bravo!
There's another live version of this song where Stevie actually cries during it. Someone said somewhere that she was thinking about her mother, who she was very close to, and this song is so beautiful it moved even her to tears on stage. Amazing.
Can't help but cry , to lose the love you thought would always be and the pain it brings. Time doesn't change it, bittersweet memory. Beautifully done!
It's a moment in time that just stands still, the heartache, heartbreak and the loss, I listen to this nearly every day, hard to name a favorite but this is most definitely in the top 5 💜💜💜
💖 This song is so beautiful 💖 Lindsey's guitar, and the beautiful notes that come from it; enhance the lyrics perfectly. It is some of the most beautiful guitar playing that I have ever heard 🎸💕
Lindsey Lindsey Lindsey gosh you are the best musician on earth. You write songs, sing beautiful and no one but on one is better on guitar - AND in your seventies you can still write , sing snd play. This is my fav FM song. Rip Christy - you were the best musician and now one of the best in the Angelic choir! ❤️
Oh my god this guitarplay is out of this world. The melody is unique.Such a sad song. It,s allways sad when a love ends😪 I,ve watched many concert videos of Fleedwood Mac and the way how Lindsey and Stevie are together on stage,i noticed all the small signs of love towards her, showing how much he loves her.😘🌹
Didnt know this song existed, tears in my eyes. I can feel how Lindsey lived thru this one and would never get Stevie back. And the harmonies touch upon classic Everly Bros.
Saw them in oslo last night, i never thought i would get the chance to see them live. This was the last song, and i have to admit that more than one tear fell from mye eyes. Beautiful song, lyrics and amazing performers..
This is the best version. I was listening to this after a break up from a long term relationship. It used to make me cry but now i just find it beautiful to listen to
This song reminds me of my 1st love when I was 19. I'm 58 now. After 3 years of what seemed to be a storybook romance, she wrote me a short and blunt dear John letter, stating no reason for her decision to walk away, and completely disappeared out of my life. I was never able to relive nor recreate the magic and innocence of that relationship ever since. I still wonder about what could've happened to her. Did she get married? Did she have children? Is she even still alive? A few years ago I decided to satisfy my curiosity and run the risk of being rejected by performing an extensive search for her over the web since we live in different countries to no avail. I finally had to settle for the harsh reality that she's gone forever and settle for the cruel fact that what was could never be again. The story of Lindsey and Stevie, how they got together, how they complemented each other, how they created indelible magic, and how their relationship finally came to a head, ending what was an otherwise perfect union will forever resonate in the ether as one of the greatest love stories since time immemorial.
I just recently came across this song and it is absolutely one of the most unique and beautiful pieces of music that I've heard in a long, long time. The ultra fast and intricate guitar chords by Buckingham brilliantly express a great passage of time, while the much more slowly delivered and intimate vocals help to create something very special.

Brilliant work in songwriting etched in his heart- he STILL loves her but he had to let her go- but when they perform togther they cant hide how they feel and thats the only place they can share now- I think they both have healed a lot of hurt- he has moved on- he is married happy and fianlly found some peace- I think she is still lookin her hers but she'll get there!!
This live version is a million times better than the album version. The line "Oh I let you slip away, there was nothing I could do" makes me think of a close relative of mine dying before my eyes😔
I could listen to it over and over. Has meaning. He made me believe that he loved and wanted to physically be with me. All was a lie when he married another woman. Now I say goodbye to you. Let me live my life
This is a great conclusion to a relationship that ended. You have to close a door so that a new one can open. Move on and enjoy what is to come. Love you Lindsey.❤❤❤❤❤
The guitar work puts him in another category above the norm. I may venture to say the background melody he plays is based on Tchaikovsky's 6th Symphony. It harmonies with their musical singing of the beautiful lyrics.
It was and always has been Fleetwood Mac Destiny, to be here for so long. I dearly Love them. Happy to of survived the 70's and 80's with them. I've yet to see them.I hope so much for One Last Tour, so that I can finally see them.
This is a guitarist ... and this masterpiece is an indication that the guitar is the best beautiful instrument especially if it is in the hands of maestro Lindsey Buckingham
To my ex husband whom I married in 1977, and divorced in 1984, in the event of your death I will play this song and others on my social media page.. Our 7 year marriage was a disaster, however, if I had it to do all over, I would change my actions and attitude..I have always loved you...

@@MrSadsack56 absolutely. A genuinely beautiful piece of music
He didn't take leave of the band on his own. Stevie had him snuffed out! I don't care for her anymore!

Poetically speaking.😊

What a touching moment. Beautiful song. He clearly wrote it for her.
John Leo a lot of their songs are about each other
I thought the exact same thoughts. That song came from the depths of his soul. I know it touched mine. I honestly buying the CD, for this song alone.
They clearly both love each other 45 years after breaking up. They have made a career out of taking digs at each other.
Silver Springs
Go Your Own Way
2 more songs about their themselves❤
the album version is great but this...this takes the song to another level entirely! So beautifully done.
Yes you can always tell the deep emotions he still feels even when he sings it in his solo shows
Album version is too fast and it loses the emotion that these slower live versions have
This is the ULTIMATE Chord Cutting song. For all those lovers and friends who you thought would be there forever but fell through the cracks of Life, this song is for you. ♥

So you face yesterday
Thinking on the days of old
And the price that we paid
For a love we couldn't hold
I let you slip away
There was nothing I could do
That was so long ago, yeah
Still I often think of you
I fall down, I get up
And I've always had to fight
Everything that was wrong
For the things that were right
Now I finally found my way
Now I know just what to do
Once you said goodbye to me, yeah
Now I say goodbye to you
[Verse 2]
It's so hard to find your way
When the lies come around
Still it happens everyday
So don't let it get you down
Just a time within a time
Just a scheme within a scheme
A little world within a world
Yes, a dream, just a dream
[Chorus]
[Outro]
Now I best be on my way
Before the night turns blue
Once you said goodbye to me, yeah
And now I say goodbye to you
Once you said goodbye to me, yeah
Now I say goodbye to you
