I have been so caught up in life that I forgot how I love plants. The pandemic slowed me down and one day I was sitting in my living room it hit me what my life and house was missing. Greenery. I took a cutting from a plant at work as well as an orchid I had at work that was given to me and brought them home. I instantly felt better. Plants are definitely therapeutic.
I try to write short messages but they end up too long. Feel like I could “talk” with you for hours! I have a plant that belonged to someone i knew as a child. He passed away decades ago. His mother kept his plant alive. His sister gave me some of the plant clippings. A living plant that honors someone who has passed. I think there is beauty in that.
Wow, I love this.. my mums house is full of plants and she fell and broke both her ankles 18 months ago and I visit twice a week and see to them. It’s been 9 weeks here in the uk and I’m still not able to visit her... I need to rescue her plants and i have just this second realised it, thanks to you ❤️xx
The plant in your bathroom is a Peperomia Obtusifolia, or " American baby rubber plant". And the one that looks like your arrowhead is a "pixie arrowhead". ❤ I haven't found one of those yet but I found my Obtusifolia in the grocery store, of all places, just before the virus went crazy. Mine has only been with me about a month and has new shoots on the stems! I am so excited! I love Jonathon. You'll have to give him a hello for me! My girls were impressed that yours grows just as crazy as mine. Hope you and Alex are doing well! Lots of love from Florida! 💖
That's the best part about gardening, you learn that you aren't in control and you learn to be flexible and experiment. I was just telling my hubby that gardening is risk taking behaviour for people who are not adrenaline junkies.
Haha yes I love that!! That’s why it’s so good for an anxious mind! Helps us to realise we can only control our reaction to the situation, not the situation itself!
you are so right, taking care of plants will take you to a different place. Cause you spend more time with taking care of them, that you forget about the problem you having. It's make you want to get more plants in to enjoy life better. I just adore them. I called them my baby.
My university's bio department is wonderful and during normal operations they give out cuttings of plants once a week to whoever wants them! I've gotten a few plants from them but the only one who's survived is my spider plant, Spooder 😂
What an impressive collection. Love the names and the obvious care and joy you take in your plant children. I am also super impressed with how cleverly you and Alex use your space!
On Google lens you can point the camera at a plant and it will tell you what it is and give you tips! I love plants and was so excited to see this video!
You can definitely still plant the golden pothos/devil's ivy in soil, even if the roots have developed extensively in water. I imagine leca would be a great option as well if you're really nervous.
Once a plant has rooted in water it can still be transferred to soil. Many of the water roots will die back or branch into soil roots. The succulent you had was a low light haworthiopsis hence why he didn't like the full sun aspect. Looked very thirsty too. Good luck with your collection. It's great!
Last week discussing life/plants/perfectionism with a friend after I burned the leaves of a perfect succulent. I decided then that perfection can’t be sustained and the attempt to do so, stresses me. Then realized I enjoy propagating plants from cuttings and raising them and watching them grow. Sometimes I bring home cast off branches i pick up at a garden center, leaves that would otherwise end up in the waste bin. I counted and realized I had over 60 little plants! Wait, is that why they’re called “nurseries”? Nursing little leaves into mighty plants. Hmm
Omgoodness! 😱 I had no idea and bc I was so afraid to even begin to attempt to care for plants bc I thought I would just be a terrible plant mom - I never asked but always wondered! 🤷 Now I know! Thks ladies! 😁
Gorgeous just gorgeous Arna. I completely agree with everything you said about raising plants. 🙌🏻 That and outdoor gardening saved my life as a kid. I have had indoor plants all my life since I was 15 years old-with the exception of the last 2 years. I truly miss them. Thank you for inspiring me. It’s so interesting how many things we have in common! 🥰 🤗
Downstairs bathroom the plant in the corner is a Hoya. The Peace Lilly appears to be root bound. Just replant in a larger pot and it should respond nicely. Love the way you use the plants throughout your home.
Love, love, love your staircase area..💕💕💕 also, I totally agree with you on people's list saying low light plants. In my experience all plants need light and haven't survived my minimal lighted bathrooms.
It's so sweet how you've named some of your plant children. My Mom used to have lots of plants. It just amazes me how you have gotten them to thrive. Absolutely beautiful!! 💚
Came for a plant tour. Got an absolutely beautiful explanation why plants are so important for some people instead. Thanks. Looking forward to see the rest of the video.
I love how you weren’t zooming in on your plants that much I definitely like seeing the whole entire plants instead of just seeing the leaves and the soil up close!
So glad to see you struggle with peace lillies too! I read they are super easy to care for but my god they are picky with what they like!! Mine always struggles haha
I love the way you have little elephant figurines and pots throughout the home. I do the same thing with foxes ☺️ Your plants are looking absolutely wonderful! I love when you share tips too, I find it really helpful with some of the plants I’ve struggled with in my home.
I’ll never get used to finding Aussie UA-camrs lol! I’m Australian myself but I always love hearing the differences between accents across the country, yours is gorgeous! I love your space! It’s so gorgeous and light and your plants all look pretty happy!!
I didn't think I was into plants before but after seeing yours I think I may enjoy a few. It really makes your home look inviting, happy, clean and fresh. I know that seems an odd description but it's just what came to mind. Your babes are very pretty and I enjoyed this video.
I think the peace lily in the bathroom is making green flowers because it doesn’t get enough light. They usually make green flowers to create more room for chlorophyll (to absorb more light).
Your Peacock Plant (fyi it's called a Calathea Makoyana) did not have a pest making its leaves sticky. That was a watering issue. Most people waaaaay overwater or underwater these plants, but they really just need to dry out to about 70% between waterings. If this was getting too dry, then saturated, you'd get the sticky leaves. Just an fyi. Also, "Devil's Ivy" = Pothos (or more properly Epipremnum).
Loved this video, I’ve been waiting for it! I currently have 3 plants that I adore, I’ve been dying for more. I loved seeing your little tricks for hanging them and clipping the vines to the wall with the hooks. I have a plant who is growing quite long and is getting harder and harder to keep from my plant obsessed cat lol. My Calathea (Carrie ☺️) started out stubborn as well but has really started thriving in the last month or so, not as many crispy edges and lots of new babies popping up!
I have no idea if this would be of any interest to you, but an art therapy classmate recently posted a directive for us to try that involved leaves. You get leaves of different sizes and shapes and put a thin piece of paper on top. You then take the paper off of a crayon or pastel, turn it horizontally and lightly rub it across the page. The shape of the leaf and the pattern of veins wind up printed on the paper. It's really cool! You can also experiment with using different colors to color different sections of the leaves. Thought maybe it would give you something creative and different to do.
I can also relate to the idea of caring for something else being wonderful for mental health! During a period of severe depression, my parents let me get a pair of guinea pigs. They have helped me recover so well! Caring for them brings me so much joy. They are silly, smart, loving little creatures that are full of personality. My first two had health issues that were totally out of my control (birth defects and a brain tumor, respectively), but the one I have now is an older rescue guinea pig. She's estimated to be about 4 years old, and she was found wandering around a local park. She had health issues that required surgery, but she recovered beautifully and is basically a brand-new piggie.
I strongly suggest reading on gardening for kids learning. While it is messy, having something like a small pot of cherry tomato plant project when they're around 4+ yo can teach a ton about where food comes from, how long it takes, how to appreciate the work gone into it, and of course how to care for something that requires maintenance. Gardening as a mental health benefit is also very researched topic. It doesn't mean you need an acre of space, just a couple pots by the window are enough.
I thought the same. I have twin three year olds. Becoming a plant mom was the best thing I’ve done this year. It really helps your house feel more relaxing and it relaxes me to care for them. I even have poisonous plants in my bedroom. I tell my sons that they are my babies and not touch them but to look at them. They love them and help me repot the others. And the help outside with the garden. I love it. But I still say no to pets lol.
@@mrs.s6212 that sounds wonderful! my mother kept a lot of dangerous looking cacti when i was little, there was the common sense to not go touch them :D And I agree on pets, it's not something I want to cate for alongside kids, maybe a hamster, but that's it.
@@vilieto We have a large yard they are allowed to help care for. Definitely not in the house. My children are very active in activities and lessons and remembering to water something in addition to running my business is actually more stressful. We each teach our children in our own way. I'm glad you found something that works for your family!
The second plant is a Pothos n'joy, 6:33 is a pilea glauca, 13:20 is a ficus pumila Variegata (creeping fig), 15:03 is a type of peperomia obtusifolia, 18:33 is another arrowhead plant (syngonium), there are many many varieties of them! Hope this helps!!
Birdsnest ferns loveeee potassium! Think banana peels. Chop them up into tiny pieces and pop them in the centre of the plant. Goood stuff xx You could also make a tea out of the banana peels, let it cool and water with that 💜💜
Now I love you so much. I filled my house with plants. Yes Florida is on a lock down too. United States has the highest rate of corona virus. When I go grocery shopping at Walmart I always pick up a new plant. I leave my house at 7 am to avoid crowds.
Oh great!! Yes I figured it was somewhat related to the Devils Ivy since it has similar leaves and aerial roots etc!! I should definitely propagate it!
The haworthia doesn't like too much sun, but if moved a little further from the window it'll recover quite easily. I love the beautiful display of your plants, very nice pots. And thumbs up for not buying bottled water for plants!
Plant number 3 is a pilea! It’s called silver sprinkles and likes frequent small waterings and higher humidity, you can soil propagate them to have more trails in the same pot :)
Haha, oh gosh, one of my kitties loves eating plants too 😅 I’ve found though that he will leave succulents and plants with thicker leaves alone for the most part. I’ve also been growing him cat grass and he’ll go for that!
Morgan Baldwin Miller get them cat grass! That really helped with my two plant eaters. Apparently if they’re eating your plants they’re craving greens and cat grass is good for them. Most pet stores sell pre-grown ones or you can get seeds and they grow super quick
For your aluminum plant from my experience mine did the same thing and I decided to repot it to find it had these dark mushy roots from root rot! I had to cut back the roots and put it in water to regrow and now he's settling into some new roots!
You have a beautiful home and gorgeous plant babies! I have struggled with our water turning the edges brown and also do not want to purchase bottled water for the plants because environment. A good trick is to let the water sit in your watering can for at least a day to allow the chemicals it has been treated with to evaporate off. Great to put the can in an area that has plants that can use a little additional humidity too! The plants seem to love it all!
Hi Arna, try placing the peace lily in a place it is exposed to a little bit of warmth like near an air vent on the floor. We placed ours near a vent without thinking too much about it and the plant has been just thriving for the last 2 years. It’s not like he gets much more light there but the heat seems to help. Hope this is useful.
Something that's worked well for me - if you are not already doing it - for your peace lily - is to wait till the leaves are starting to slightly wilt to ensure that it's time to water it - once they start to wilt I put it in the sink and let it soak properly for a few hours and it perks right back up again. Occasionally I'll put a little liquid fertilizer in there with it. But yeah - I wait till it wilts and then water it. I've kept two alive for a couple years so far this way. Was my mum's advice and has worked well. :)
Hello! 😊 I have two. One is in a natural light filled bathroom which is quite bright with indirect light. And the other is by a window with transparent white curtains that diffuse the directly sunlight. So both have quite a lot of indirect diffused sunlight all day. ❤️
Misting plants actually does help them. I used to mist my prayer plant faithfully until I went on holiday, now it’s in a terrible state. Try it, you’ll see for yourself. The pothos next to the Monstera is a Pothos n’ Joy the Marble Queen is pale and varigated the tiny vine is Glauca your Marble Queen is the hanging one near the window. Your plants are lovely.
I remember my aunt husband had told me if you choose an elephant with trunk up or down curled but not trunk down out you choose the right elephant to display indoor as fengshui positive sources I’m not sure about but that what I remember. So if I see elephant statues that words always came out from my mind😀 I’m just saying.. I like your decoration of you plants 🌱 ♥️
Hello! I found your channel through your video with Jessica recently. I share your passion about plants and can see they bring you a lot of joy! I also love when you call your plants floofy. This video makes me happy.
Hey just a plant tip. You don’t have to collect rain water, just get your tap water and let it sit on the counter for 2-10 days depending on what time frame you have and the water will oxidize and the chemicals from the water will slowly evaporate. Also if you put a bucket under your shower head when you turn it on and the water is heating up, you can catch that water and it will also reduce waist because you aren’t letting the water go down the drain
The one next to the monstera is a Pothos N'Joy, and maybe next to that is a Peperomia Perciliata? Need close ups. Corner of your bathroom is a variegated Peperomia Obtusifolia. The arrowhead plant in the mug is definitely a Syngonium Pixie, just a smaller version of the syngonium you have in the bedroom. The devil's ivy lookalike is a Philodendron Hederaceum. The ferns you have in your bedroom and on the little Kmart shelf in the stairwell are Boston Ferns. I love your plant decor!!!
You were the one who got me into plants. Got my first one in March of 2019, and now have 2 dozen leafy green children (3 dozen if you include air plants and succulents). Ironically, the only plant I can't seem to grow is my pothos (devil's ivy). It just sits there with like 5 leaves; neither dying nor thriving. I keep telling myself that it's just dormant since I got it at the end of summer last year (I'm in the US).
My husband is the green thumb in our family and I only got interested in plants 🌱 in the last year. My favorite is a Christmas cactus 🌵 which has the most incredible bright pink double blooms right now. It’s only supposed to bloom around Christmas time but this plant blooms at least 2 times a year🙈 You have a beautiful selection of plants and they do bring us joy and now with the quarantine love my plants even more💝 Thanks for sharing 🌱🌵🌹
Love your style! With the peace lily, if you find that you’re watering it very frequently and it still tends to droop, then consider repotting it. Give it new soil. It may be root bound or the soil is old, and isn’t retaining water or nutrients.
For the pothos in your bedroom, Jonathan you can get hanging planter drip trays. It’s a clear saucer drip tray with little hooks that keep it hanging to the basket. I’m in Canada and found them at our local garden centres, and hardware stores. Google “hanging planter drip tray”. One of these will save you a lot of time watering Jonathan. Lovely collection :)
I have fallen in love with the norfolk island pine, I really want it now but I do not have enough light for it. It is time to look for a new place then ahah

Really enjoyed seeing all of your plants. I love plants and am slowly acquiring more.
Wow so helpful!! You’re clearly a Plant Lover xx
Birdsnest ferns loveeee potassium! Think banana peels. Chop them up into tiny pieces and pop them in the centre of the plant. Goood stuff xx
You could also make a tea out of the banana peels, let it cool and water with that 💜💜
Oooooh perfect! I’ll definitely make a little banana tea for it!
This made me want to be a plant mama 😢 I just weeded my garden but I think I should have just started indoors 🤔
🙌🏻🌿
@@ArnaAlayneMorton are your trailing plants Devil's Ivy or pothos...i mean ate they the same varieties....???
Are they the same varieties???
I love the way your plants bring life and energy into your home. What a beautiful selection!
Thank you so much!!
Devil’s ivy is actually variegated pothos
Devil’s Ivy is the common name for it, Pothos is part of it’s scientific name ;)
I LOVE how your Chinese Money Plant hangs, it's a dream of mine! Looks stunning!
Thanks xx
Ohhhh your Orbifolia 😍😍😍 I’ve been wanting one in my home for agesss but I only see them in tiny 7cm pots lol
🥰🥰 thanks!! I got this guy at a big plant warehouse sale!!
I have some for sale i have regular and marbled hit me up ill send u one
Karima mckimmie i have a few ill sell u hit me up
Now I love you so much. I filled my house with plants. Yes Florida is on a lock down too. United States has the highest rate of corona virus. When I go grocery shopping at Walmart I always pick up a new plant. I leave my house at 7 am to avoid crowds.
🥰🥰 that’s great you can pick up plants on your grocery shop! And yes my heart is breaking for the USA right now 😞
I like that intro about plants not being perfect like humans
Your plant decor is gorgeous! I'm somewhat new to the plant addict club and I found this video very therapeutic ;) Thanks for sharing your home!
You’re so welcome! Glad you enjoyed x
Ugh peace Lilly’s are my hardest plant to figure out as well 😩
I think that second plant is an epipremnum snow queen. It’s actually a type of Devils Ivy and can be propagated in water for new free plants
Oh great!! Yes I figured it was somewhat related to the Devils Ivy since it has similar leaves and aerial roots etc!! I should definitely propagate it!
It looks like a Njoy or possibly Pearl and jade pothos to me, which are other cultivated varieties of pothos (devil's ivy). such a lovely plant :)
Your peace lily needs more light. N may be root bound
Oh ok!! Thank you for the help x
The haworthia doesn't like too much sun, but if moved a little further from the window it'll recover quite easily.
I love the beautiful display of your plants, very nice pots.
And thumbs up for not buying bottled water for plants!
the second plant you showed is a “pearls & jade” pothos!
Thanks 🥰
Plant number 3 is a pilea! It’s called silver sprinkles and likes frequent small waterings and higher humidity, you can soil propagate them to have more trails in the same pot :)
So helpful thank you x
God I wish my cat wasn't into eating plants....
😭 I really feel for cat owners who also love plants ☹️
Haha, oh gosh, one of my kitties loves eating plants too 😅 I’ve found though that he will leave succulents and plants with thicker leaves alone for the most part. I’ve also been growing him cat grass and he’ll go for that!
Morgan Baldwin Miller get them cat grass! That really helped with my two plant eaters. Apparently if they’re eating your plants they’re craving greens and cat grass is good for them. Most pet stores sell pre-grown ones or you can get seeds and they grow super quick
honestly i have so much respect for her that she will go through her comments and like them, i feel like most creators don’t do that
Thanks lovely x
I am so drawn to Ruby! 🥰 So cute to see all your plant babies! 🌿
🥰🥰 isn’t she gorgeous! Thank you 🌿
Like your analogy of being a plant parent. Feel the same way!!! Looking forward to your future videos.
For your aluminum plant from my experience mine did the same thing and I decided to repot it to find it had these dark mushy roots from root rot! I had to cut back the roots and put it in water to regrow and now he's settling into some new roots!
IT. IS. NICE. TO MEET THEM ALL!!
🌿🌿
You have a beautiful home and gorgeous plant babies! I have struggled with our water turning the edges brown and also do not want to purchase bottled water for the plants because environment. A good trick is to let the water sit in your watering can for at least a day to allow the chemicals it has been treated with to evaporate off. Great to put the can in an area that has plants that can use a little additional humidity too! The plants seem to love it all!
Such a great tip!! Thank you 🥰🥰
Nice display. Clean and neat space. The peace lily plant isn't happy there. You may consider to change its spot .
That is helpful :) thank you!! Xx
This video is so beautiful. Thank you for the words before showing us them. I really enjoyed this :)
The one at 18:28 is a mini/pixie arrowhead plant, it's got two different varigations in it so it's probably a mix of two types :)
Your peace lily isn't sick, it's just aiming its leaves at the light which is horizontal. Gives it a funny look, the leaves on mine did that too.
Your house is so cool. You have plenty of plants and they're all gorgeous.
Thank you!!
Yes that’s how I water it now, but he never perks up more than a little haha! Most of my plants get a “deep soak” every few waterings!!
@@ArnaAlayneMorton Oh no! Maybe it's just a depressed plant! And that's ok. It's still alive and it's doing the best it can. Nawww
Emma Louise Pursey , what light do you keep your peace lily in? Xxx
Thanks 🤗 appreciate the advice!
The propagated Ivy that's hanging into the dark..you should wrap it around the railing going down. That would be so pretty.💜🙏🏽💜
Hello! I found your channel through your video with Jessica recently. I share your passion about plants and can see they bring you a lot of joy! I also love when you call your plants floofy. This video makes me happy.
Thank you!! Haha yes the ferns are particularly floofy!! Glad you're a plant lover too :D
Thank you!! Xx
Thanks for sharing. Fellow plant mama here.. My love for plants grew nore after watching this.
Awww yay!! Thank you 🌿
The plant you talk about at 23.58. It’s a coleus, it wants alot of indirect sunlight. And quite alot of water:)
Love this. I also gor into plants in 2018, now sitting with about 50 and many many propagated babies... they are beautiful.
🥰🥰 gorgeous!! Congrats xx
@@ArnaAlayneMorton i just cant seen keep an aluminum either, I'm up to 2 casualties and can't bring myself to try again..
Thanks so much 🥰🥰
Love the way you decorate your home with green life🥰 inspiring
You were the one who got me into plants. Got my first one in March of 2019, and now have 2 dozen leafy green children (3 dozen if you include air plants and succulents). Ironically, the only plant I can't seem to grow is my pothos (devil's ivy). It just sits there with like 5 leaves; neither dying nor thriving. I keep telling myself that it's just dormant since I got it at the end of summer last year (I'm in the US).
That’s so wonderful to hear 🌿🌿🌿 yes it is possible that it’s dormant! Give it a feed since it’s Spring now :)
Gorgeous house, plants super healthy, and a good decorator with plants and furniture
Oh that’s so lovely! You’re most welcome 🌿🍃🌱
Love your style! With the peace lily, if you find that you’re watering it very frequently and it still tends to droop, then consider repotting it. Give it new soil. It may be root bound or the soil is old, and isn’t retaining water or nutrients.
Great idea!! Thank you x
Agreed. Looks like it needs a new pot.
if you use a macrame hanger for jonathan you can have a saucer underneath in the hanger and have the pot on top of it all in the hanger
Yes I just got a hanging planter for him x
Hey girl, you should get the plantsnap app!! You take pics of your plant and it tell you what kind it is!💗
Yes I have since haha thank you x
For the pothos in your bedroom, Jonathan you can get hanging planter drip trays. It’s a clear saucer drip tray with little hooks that keep it hanging to the basket. I’m in Canada and found them at our local garden centres, and hardware stores.
Google “hanging planter drip tray”. One of these will save you a lot of time watering Jonathan.
Lovely collection :)
Thanks so much!! Xx
I have fallen in love with the norfolk island pine, I really want it now but I do not have enough light for it. It is time to look for a new place then ahah
You are really certified plantita, lucky having a green thumbs 💚🍀👍😍
Arrow head plants are a type of syngonium. Bathroom plant that mimics the look of a rubber plant is a type of peperomia.
Thank you!!
