As someone who has experienced all that the market for crappy fighting games on mobile has to offer, I can tell you with 100% certainty that this is a Unity asset flip. Ticks off all the boxes for one. Same combo system I've seen in all of them, same announcer, same noises, same modes (all of the ones I played only had the same 3 modes this game offers), same menu noises, etc. The fact that this is on PS4, Switch and Xbox is a crime in and of itself.
And worse yet, it's not even a FUN asset flip like Chicken Gun (whose gameplay is so good it got a whole fandom), no, this is just bottom of the barrel stuff with zero originality or polish
100% I can tell you for a fact that Ethan, actually is from the old Unity standard assets that come with your unity install
the robot is a generic robot that a lot of stuff on the asset store uses
and mechanim bot is a generic human male humanoid base model from mixamo LMAO
these animations are all also from mixamo as well it seems
they need some cleaning up but they can be a good base, if you clean them up, which these people clearly did not
just learn about state machines, arrays, linked lists, and timers

The year is 20XX. The Evolution Championship Series has gone bankrupt and exclusively streams Urban Street Fighter matches 24/7 to pay back their neverending debt to permanent Driver champion Daigo Umehara. The metagame has progressed to a point where none of the players agree to any other stage besides Stage 4.
Umehara was the first human in 20XX to be augmented through extended life treatments and robotic and cybernetic implantations through the government one world government. Truly an example of humanity focusing on what matters for the betterment of all 🙏🏽

worst part is half the assests are taken from a unity assest pack... actually probably all of em are tbh
I will add that Mecanim Bot looks suspiciously similar to the default humanoid model in Unity, I wouldn't be surprised if it was an older model for it.
bot is from mixamo, rest are standard unity assets and the gameplay is from an asset called universal fighting engine. they literally changed nothing even the ui and text is what comes with the asset. shit like this gives me faith in my games honestly so i dont mind at all
mecanim bot is the mixamo female humanoid model which perplexes me cause mixamo IS an animation library so they shouldve just used their animations tbh
it even has anim in its name, theyre not even trying to be subtle

I killed a man by doing only pelvic thrusts in Toribash’s multiplayer
Simultaneous turn based physics ragdoll fighting, still one of the coolest concepts out there. I should play it again

I've had this game on my steam wishlist for the longest time because I was looking into developing a fighting game. Going through resources I found this game and found out it was a unity asset pack called Universal Fighting Engine(UFE). There are other games that used that engine like Fighter of Gods that was fun but this game has little development in it to make it stand out in a good way.
You could just study MUGEN to get an in depth grasp of character and system design
@@dougneon9550 I would actually like to make a fighting game with MUGEN (well, IKEMEN since you can sell it, but you can use MUGEN programming on it). Only issue is getting sprite artists. Ask for paid work and people will either accept and drag their feet with progress, or they will just decline. Now if you use the words 'passion project', you will either get a ton of angry comments telling you that people don't work for free, or some people incredibly committed to your idea.

If you want an explanation to all of this, its because it obviously uses an asset called UFE (Universal Fighting Engine), a Unity asset acting as a template for fighting games. Seems like they legit just uploaded it as a full release with only adding 2 minor things (2 new characters which they dont own using animations of other characters in the game, and 2 stages which looks to be slapped together).
Probably costed around $500 and took a day or 2 to make.
someone make a fan remake of this and call it; "Urban Street Fighter: Factory Fights" i am begging you

This game has one theoretical use and that is at a mystery game tournament. If you ever want to find a worse fighting game look into Frame fighter. I believe it is currently in an entirely unplayable state, not that it was ever particularly functional to begin with.

as someone who enjoys playing crappy old games that were released by actual companies, with budget and staff, and not just made by one guy flipping assets, I'd say this game is way better than many stuff that were sold for much more money... the title wasn't lying tho, it seems like one of the worst fighting games I never played
I appreciate that you have a leveled take about fighting games as a whole. So many in the fgc are jackasses when you say "I like [insert fg title]". I just like the entire genre too.
It's a total asset flip. Nothing is original. if you want to play a better version of Urban Street fighter, go play Universal Fighting Engine Demo. It's basically the same game -minus driver and boxer, soccer boy is replaced with Ellen (a 2d character) and the shitty stages. Funny enough, it has an story mode(it's more like an arcade mode) and training mode.
for context: This game was build with the Universal Fighting Engine or UFE for short in the Unity engine. It's the same engine that was used to make Fantasy Strike and Among Us arena.
The factory backgrounds are all from the same factory asset pack map, just in different areas of the map. The characters are all default assets, the fighting game engine was bought off the store, etc.
This pairs with Matt McMuscle’s series well. Would love to see more like this

Oh yeah, the moment you opened up the menu I could tell it REEKED of a Unity asset called Universal Fighting Engine 2. Its absolutely shameless how little effort was put into this game to flip onto the store front lmao

Can confirm, most of this is just straight up a fighting game template by rhe name of UFE (Universal or Ultimate Fighting Engine, can never remember which), which is of course a fighting game template for Unity

Trying to make characters in Mugen back in the day really made me appreciate all the work that goes into making a good fighting game. I remember testing my first character and not understanding why he felt so bad to control -- turns out it was because I hadn't put hitstun on any of his moves

I played some time ago another asset flip game similiar to this called Sento Evolved, and has someone that likes to lab stuff in fighting games it was really fun to see the small differences between characters that have the same move set. For example, you have a bunch of shotos but for some reason 1 or 2 of them have less recovery in their firball, giving them an infinite.
I really love finding stuff like that.
This is literally a template project from the Unity asset store, all of the menus, all of the characters, The ENIRE game! It’s supposed to be a tool for game development.
There’s even a UA-cam series, that’s basically a tutorial on how to use it.

Putting MK1 and DNF Duel with Marvel Vs Capcom Infinite is absolutely crazy, but other than that this video was pretty good.
And to think that instead of spending five dollars on this, you could've spent five dollars on YOMI Hustle, which is actually an amazing and very innovative fighting game with a good community to back it up :D

I developed that same appreciation through watching the evolution of various genres. Super Mario Bros. Started out as a platformer that has tight responsive controls, but feels sluggish and rigid. As the series progressed we see improvements to more fluid movement and control. 3D platformers started off with camera control issues and janky collision, and grew into games with dynamic cameras with consistent and clear interactions.
Fighting games have done the same. Just like everything else in life, we use knowledge gained from the past to improve. This gives us enough of a head start to make inovations of our own.

It's honestly tiring that all the new bad games are just unity games on steam. Old bad games were made with bespoke tools and engines and had their own vision and assets, unity games are completely and utterly soulless.
This reminds me of Kandidatos, a brazilian fighting game for far cheaper, about parodies of brazilian politicians fighting for the presidency
It uses the same engine and movesets, but of course has a lot more work put into it
Also the Robot style has a very fast jab that propels forward and I'm pretty sure frametraps into itself forever

I actually played this game on my switch from what I remember, that version is even worse than this one, because from what I can recall it had no story mode or training mode.
By you thumbnail i thought that you will talk about Toribashi. And it's a pretty unique turn based fighting game.
This exact game is a 1 to 1 copy if many mobile fighting games, i've seen over 10 different games like this that do nothing but switch the models and are all by different devs

I like your surprisingly positive end note. You could have just ranted about this game, but I agree: it's incredibly hard to make a fighting game. I mean, the biggest ones have been going on for over 30 years, of course they are well polished and have accomplished a lot of impressive feats.
One could argue that this game could have used some originality in the stage and (especially) the character names. The only reason I can imagine they barely gave them names is because, when you are making a game in such a rich genre, you're bound to find characters in other games with similar names. Or, perhaps, real people (like, imagine if they gave Soccer Boy an actual name. There's no way there hasn't been a soccer player with any given name that looks like him, and what if they don't like seeing "them" in a game?).
That said, who knows, maybe they'll make Urban Street Fighting 2, and improve a lot
