What the heck?? At 814K views, this is STILL underrated, imo. Beautiful documentation with wonderful editing! Informative and entertaining all the way through. The cherry on top is that you have a great voice for this format of video. I hope the algorithm makes this EXPLODE someday, you deserve it for your more than successful efforts!

Honestly, I think Cyberbots is a little underrepresented in conversations about how the iconic MvC or anime fighting game styles developed: Cyberbots allowed too much freedom with aerial options compared to later games... thus the problems with stalling. Still, the way it affects how mid-screen neutral is done feels WAY closer to the crazy aerial tech we see from MvC2 or 3 than, say, XMen V Street Fighter... And this game PREDATES Vampire Savior, when Darkstalkers actually starts to feel like a proto-anime fighter.

This video is really great, all the small edits are nice and the way you introduce the Point System is so good and smooth, it just catches one's attention again real quick

I played the absolute shit out of Cyberbots in the old WinKawaks setup I had back as a wee lad. I was super into emulation and I'm so glad I was. It's beautiful to see Cyberbots randomly pop up in my feed after so long

This might be the only Fighting game to ever actually try and emulate a real combat sport's rule system instead of just using the competition concept as an aesthetic theme.

Devilotte was how I found out about this game. I saw her in Super Puzzle Fighter and had to ask around a lot (this was before the internet was a widespread thing) to learn about this game. I'm glad she still shows up from time to time and Capcom hasn't totally abandoned the characters from this game.

This game was dope. It had a sense of ‘realism’ which could be ascribed to the combination of the various mechanics and the mo capped moves. Also, there was zero chance a new player could compete with an experienced one. Anyone who knew the defensive mechanics and the move sets was eons ahead of those who didn’t. The ring out instead of being knocked out mechanic I don’t actually see as a huge flaw - it added to the strategy of the game. Some combat sports have a similar rule set, I believe. This and Tobal no. 1 were right up there for innovative ‘realistic’ mechanics.

There was an arcade in New Orleans with a copy of this game, lo these many decades ago. Pity I was so utterly terrible at fighting games, I could never make it any decent distance in it.
