Finally, a Junji Ito anime adaptation that is able keep up with the manga's vibe, they really nailed the "fear of the unknown". I love the ED for Junji Ito Collection tho, but that's it.
Trust me, we won't complain over people gushing over this show haha Like I read Uzumaki maybe 8-9 years ago, and since then I've been convinced that there's no way you can capture Junji Ito's style in animation. The animated Gyo and the Junji Ito netflix series just cemented my opinion. But the way they've done this series, the gorgeous animation and the soundtrack... I'm so happy to be wrong, and I can't WAIT for what's up next
Bruh I fuckin LOVED this manga. Had a huge Junji Ito phase and spent 2 months reading everything I could find by him, and this is still one of the stories that stuck with me the most. Second to his one slice of life story about his cute cats. Which still has body horror. Cuz Junji can't fucking stop himself lol
I'm pretty sure a lot of this is rotoscoped. The director, Hiroshi Nagahama, also directed Flowers of Evil which also was fully rotoscoped. That being said, this looks a lot better than that other show which was really experimental in its use of it. Not to take away from this at all though. Still looks absolutely creepy and uncanny which is the point
Yeah rotoscoping in itself gets a bit of a bad wrap but it's a technique, nothing wrong with it in itself. Rotoscoped animation is often percieved as being uncanny because it's so smooth and lifelike, which makes it PERFECT for this style.
Junji Ito is a master of eldritch horror and I’m glad that his manga finally gets an adaptation of comparable quality. I’m not enthused by the blistering pace, but I see the rationale in wanting to quickly hook people into how batshit insane this is. The animation is gorgeous too- definitely rotoscoped with some layering on top, it looks real smooth.
I've been listening to the soundtrack on repeat since yesterday. It's so good. Colin Stetson's style is really so fitting (he did the soundtrack for Hereditary and The Menu, among other films)
Not the right thing to watch at 10 P.M apparently...no sleep for me I guess! That "The More You Know" actually got me and relieved some of my horror. Thoroughly terrified asf rn.
14:51 This part of that episode made my stomach hurt. I can't even imagine how painful It will be to cut the finger skin like that. _________________________________ Damn, the animation of this anime is crazy good!!
This was sooooo fun and creepy I read most of Junji Ito a few years ago and going back to it from time to time is so good I'm glad this anime started quite strongly
This show is gonna be awesome lol

the stuff with the traumatized mom was the most upsetting part
I know, imagine losing your dad in such a traumatic way and then realize that your mom is affected too (but in the opposite way)

I do think there are some parts that are land animated though. I feel like you can kind of tell which scenes are rotoscoped and which ones aren't.

You're welcome lol
Tomie is for sure somewhere out there laughing menacingly while drinking her tea while everybody else is dying from this curse LOL.
watched this at midnight and decided not to sleep for at least 2 days now(Still gonna watch the res of the season tho)

Awesome reaction, man. First time seeing your videos and damn, your voice is deep!
i read the manga and they actually did a really great job
(also maybe 4 episodes may be enough it is a 19 chapter manga)
Glad you enjoyed it
This is so creepy... love it
This is where Gege got the idea for “uzumaki” in JJK
i think it actually is rotoscoped, anime-ized.. at least most of the people when they move and talk.. makes the movements lifelike and creepy.
Love the body horror!!! 👌
love your reaction and love love your voice ❤❤
Thank you:) glad you enjoyed
They putting several chapters together into one. The manga is very episodic so I suppose it works.
This anime is already fucked up in black and white scheme, how much more if they decided to fully colored it
I think it'd ruin it tbh
