Genuinely so peak, it’s so nice to see Subaru finally is finally embracing the exceptions everyone placed on him since this season started. He’s came so far since episode 13 or even season 2, animation, direction, voice acting, ost and Emilia’s insert song. Couldn’t have wished for a better adaptation this is even better than reading it in the light novel
Al's line about Subaru carrying heroic delusions is so important, the author was considering making it the title for this chapter of the story, it's a theme that has sort of been present and will continue to be present throughout the series. Al is basically giving him an out in this scene, but Subaru chooses the harder path himself. The contrast between both characters is very interesting, both being isekai'd but now walking different paths.
The funny thing about running away is that Subaru could have run away from every arc if he chosen so at the start, he's rarely the target, he could run away from Elsa, from the mansion, from the capital (and he tried), from Sanctuary and from Priestella, whether he could take someone with him and save at least them is another story. He always heads straight for the danger.
The way you just suddenly bawled mid-speech, started shaking, and your uncontrollable breathing, that's EXACTLY what happened to me too when I first watched this 😭😭 Subaru's speech was INSPIRING, and I cried my chest out TwT
Incredible how this episode is so entertaining despite being only dialogue, it reminded me of episode 22 of 86, where the entire episode is just 2 people in front of each other talking, but thanks to the genius directing it’s still a masterpiece of an episode.
I think it was genius that Subaru started the speech being genuine. Telling the people he is an everyday person like them trapped in this unbeatable situation and he doesn't know what he can do. He calls himself pathetic, a useless loser, that he too is scared, and knows what it feels to be weak and powerless with no hope. Then he flips it by coming at them with the reveal that he, a nobody, defeated the sin archbishop of sloth. Showing the people that even a nobody can stand up, fight and win. It was a genius way to realistically lift up the spirit of the people with brutal honesty that ended with an authentic feeling of hope.
The speech was one of the scenes I was more looking forward to. In the novels Anastasia had even wrote a whole speech for him, but when the moment came the man just started to speak from the heart LOL Also, it is SUCH a good thing (and strategy) to first put down people's hope (showing how a normal, weak, helpless dude he is), just to AFTER give them hope (when he says "I'm the spirit user who defeated the Sin Archbishop of Sloth"...the people's reactions was priceless). Also, Reinhard is here and THE MAN IS READY!!!
The most ancient of heroes is Reinhard. Notice how it's colored the Astrea red. I think the "ancient" refers to his bloodline. Haven't finished the video so you may have addressed that.
I do agree that it seems Al is speaking from experience. Maybe he came into the world with a mindset similar to Subaru. Who wouldn't think they were some special chosen hero after getting pulled into another world? However, it seems that Subaru is actually special, kind of. Because of RbD. What we see here is Subaru growing to be special outside of RbD. I think Al probably failed to learn how to do that, and doesn't want to see Subaru repeat his mistakes.
I cried and I am not even going to deny that I did, in fact I am proud that they nailed this scene so hard. This is the reason why I adore this part of arc 5, it truly shows how much Subaru has grown so far, how many friends and allies he made and how much he accomplished. Even though he still has a ton of self doubt, he can stand proud as a hero, he's so earned that title even though he doesn't even want to admit it. I love him and I love this series.
Due to time contraints, some parts of the speech were cut off, like these: “Whose face did you look at? Was it someone special to you or someone you had never met before a few hours ago? Or maybe it was a friend… They probably look terrible right now. Was their face teary? Pained? I doubt anyone is smiling right now. No, maybe there are some people. Trying their best to put on a smile to keep you from worrying. If they are, then they are truly amazing people. If someone precious to you smiled for you like that, you should be proud. And then you should compare their expression now to the smile you remember.” “If you look around you, I’m sure you’ll meet someone else’s gaze. They are feeling the same unease, the same desire to just run away from it all, but…they also don’t want to lose. Your loved ones, and the person whose eyes you just met, and if you count yourself, that’s already three people. And depending on where you are, it might be even more people than that.” Like he said, when she looked up, she could see several different people’s faces. The feelings in their eyes were complicated and muddled, and her eyes probably looked the same to them. But somewhere along the way she’d stopped feeling like she was just cowering in fear. “I hope you understand now that you are not alone. That feeling is a powerful thing even all by itself. Not wanting to see the sad face of someone you care about. Not wanting to look lame to the person whose eyes you just met. I can’t be the only one who’s that shallow and stubborn, can I?”
Bonus (this appears right at the end of the speech): "Voices cried out as a singular hope multiplied and spread. Looking down at her brother cradled in her arms, she could see hope lighting up his green eyes, too. Confirming that, she hugged him tight. His arms timidly wrapped around her waist, too, and she looked up at the ceiling as she felt the warmth of his hug. The boy who could not hide his own fear, his own unease, who could not hide anything from them, had sworn he would still fight, carrying the hopes and expectations of all the people in the city on his back until the very end. She did not know his face, but in her heart, he was a picture-book hero, and she closed her eyes as if praying that he would be blessed with every good fortune she could imagine. Because he would surely break if she didn’t. -Because he was just your average, everyday boy who was struggling against the outrageous for someone precious to him."
Al was transported about 19 years ago, in his own words during the breaktime. Which us interestingly Subaru's age currently(?)(correct me if I'm wrong) During the part where Subaru was debating whether or not to do the speech, to me, Al was just genuinely concerned about Subaru. Especially since he knows that he's someone who's been isekai'd and was just a normal person. From his perspective, not knowing about the things Subaru's gone through already and Return by Death, Subaru just seems like a regular old kid who's been transported to an unfamiliar environment. From that perspective I would feel bad too if a guy like that had to carry the burden of an entire city's hopes. Aside from that, I got this from a different comment, but it's interesting: Al's acting more tense, different, recently, and may be due to the Authority of Wrath amplifying his emotions.
I dont think Al spoke like he knew Typhon, he just knew about how she died or how Gluttony might work, which is plenty suspicious on its own. Al certainly doesn't seem like someone who lived for extra long time, he's too down to earth (heh) for that, according to his own words he's about 37-39 years old with being isekaid for the last 19 years, I believe Subaru is a bit younger than 19 though, being 17 when he got there and year passing since. But extra thing, if you brighten that one frame where we see his eyes, it seems like he has sharp brown eyes and black hair, which isnt that surprising if he's from Japan, but it makes you wonder...
I thought Subaru would get Lilliana to sing for everyone with the broadcast, but I’ll take that awesome morale-boosting speech he gave, holy crap. Al definitely seems like someone who’s been in a similar situation to Subaru, but chose to gave up on becoming a hero. I’m curious to how he ended up working for Priscilla.
Bro I have to say ur reactions r top tier man I am so glad I found ur reaction channel through orb anime reactions. U literally felt how I felt during this ep.
This episode really really broke me as well man it's ok to let everything out and you were like ....fuck me dude why didn't bring myself some tissue LOL ...would definitely drink loads of water after this xD sucks 1 more episode left till cour 1 ends till it returns February 2025.
Btw the archbishop don't really react to Subaru's speech cause they just don't care like Al said . This will never be shown in the anime thus Tappei said it in his Twitter
Yeeah I agree, I wonder why they chose that specific moment for Satella. What I mean is why did they put the visual of him offing himself to get away from Satella. It would've made more sense to have the visual that happened a minute later where it showed him taking off her hood, and when he saw her crying he wiped away her tears proclaiming "I will save you." That would've made more sense as its consistent with the other flashbacks showcasing the different women in his life that he's taken upon himself to reach out and save.
The pattern is a moment of despaiir/showng resolve+a moment of sharing gratitude. ("I swear... I'll save you"+ "My name is Emilia", "Petelgeuse! Petelgeuse! Petelgeuse!" + Thank you for saving me.
Can't wait for the next arc. SPOILERS: "if i am going to be saved, then i don't care about who's capable, or who happened to be in the right place at the right time, or who wants to help me... what matters is that is the person i love, my name is emilia, just emilia, please tell me your name". "I am Subaru natsuki" Pools of tears will be filled that day, my friends.
To me this ep was full of yapping. But that’s cuz I know Subaru is the GOAT. If Ms. Sleep was there, there would be no discussion on who speaks to inspire the masses. I agree; it’s only Subaru, through his str despite his weakness, that can (and has done so before) rally people to him. He’s developed so much; he knows yet still doesn’t. He’s only a normal guy after all. Yet this normal dude is a true figurehead, the only one who claimed victory over an archbishop. So my mind didn’t need a talk on who’s the spokesperson nor Subaru’s awkward relatability in his speech. I’m 10 million percent IN on this man, thru thick and thin! I was already thinking “ok, he’s gonna get jumped or targeted now, how do we counter that while letting the MVP do his thing?” And that’s when I forgot the title of the episode (let alone the run time 🗣️🔥). Chills when Natsuki Subaru claimed his rightful accolades; more chills when a man of equal accolades is now active on this battlefield (Otto is da best). New and old heroes indeed! …also does this count as giving Gluttony his name 💀
YO THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT FOR YOU IF YOU HAVNT WATCHED RE ZERO BREAKTIME OF EP5 AND EP6 PLS WATCH QUICKLY BCS IT IS VERY VERY IMPORTANT FOR THE STORY IDK WHY WOULD THEY ADAPT IT IN BREACKTIME BUT PLS WATCH IT 18:10 That explains this line as well!!
They didn't know which tower had which bishop though. You also didn't react to Al going "This wasn't how I was told it would go." When Emilia picked up
I have never cried more in a reaction than I did today... wow, what an episode.
Subaru after he see reinhard: nah we'll win

Subaru is a true hero with a heart of gold. He's ridding the world of sin and asking little to nothing in return. He's the messiah!
The way you just suddenly bawled mid-speech, started shaking, and your uncontrollable breathing, that's EXACTLY what happened to me too when I first watched this 😭😭
Subaru's speech was INSPIRING, and I cried my chest out TwT
Natsuki subaru ...the newest of hero ....truly deserves
As a WN/LN reader, I was holding back tears, but Crusch opening her eyes did it for me.
If they showed his parents, I'd bawl my eyes out
Al does really feel like someone who tried to be a hero once, tried to shoulder the burden ... and failed
Damn, I didn’t think they were actually gonna do the entire speech. Was like the pages coming alive right in front of my eyes.

@@Mepharias ahh that makes a lot of sense, I tailored it a lot on my theories about Al, so I was incorrect. That makes total sense though
I do agree that it seems Al is speaking from experience. Maybe he came into the world with a mindset similar to Subaru. Video length almost as long as Look Back’s reaction love to see it 🗿
6:20 Garf is really learning Mimi's mannerisms

Yea that’s my MC 🗣️🔥🔥🔥🔥
Watched it midnight. You can imagine how my sleep went.
I can't believe rewatcning this again made me tear up already. It's literally just been 12 hours since I watched this

Peak reaction and commentary bud

I wonder if the most ancient of heroes is about al. He does feel like a fallen hero.
Emilia when she asks why she seems so confident after talking to Al is because Al subconsciously reminds her of Subaru.
I went into this episode expecting the awesome speech from the novel.
I ended up tearing up like a moron.
Damn you Subaru.😭

Al is such a fascinating character, please stop cutting his content out please 😭
Peak
I did cry with the novel, the anime was good but a no where near the novel.
Which subs are these? They seem so much better than the ones I saw on Hianime
This is just basic chrunchyroll subs
They are not trust me ... crunchyroll is infamous for wrong subs. Even Muse Asia has better subs
