Dark Eyes (Italian: Oci ciornie; Russian: Очи чёрные óchi chjórnyje) is a 1987 Italian and Russian language film which tells the story of a 19th-century married Italian who falls in love with a married Russian woman. It stars Marcello Mastroianni and Yelena Safonova.
One day, on board a steamer, Romano (Marcello Mastroianni), a middle-aged Italian, tells to a Russian man the story of his life. He narrates his encounter with a young Russian lady with dark beautiful eyes, their brief romantic interlude and his sudden abandonment. Haunted by the memory of that lady, Romano travels to Russia to find her.
The film was adapted from (or rather inspired by) four Anton Chekhov's stories, notably The Lady with the Dog, by a Soviet-Italian team that included Alexander Adabashyan, Suso Cecchi d'Amico and Nikita Mikhalkov. The latter directed. The title refers to a famous Russian art song.
Oh, these gorgeous eyes, dark and glorious eyes,
Burn-with-passion eyes, how you hypnotise!
How I adore you so, how I fear you though,
Since I saw you glow! Now my spirit's low!
Darkness yours conceal mighty fires real;
They my fate will seal: burn my soul with zeal!
But my love for you, when the time is due,
Will refresh anew like the morning dew!
No, not sad am I, nor so mad am I;
All my comforts lie in my destiny.
Just to realise my life’s worthiest prize
Did I sacrifice for those ardent eyes!.
Translation by Peter Farnbank
Another rhythmical translation which is closer to the original
Oh you dark black eyes, full-of-passion-eyes
Oh you burning eyes, how you hypnotise
Now I love you so, but I fear you though
Since you glanced at me not so long ago.
Oh I see you now, you are dark and deep
I see grief and feel that my soul will weep
I see now in you a winning burning glow
in my poor heart will a fire grow.
I’ m not sorrowful, I’m not repenting
I accept all that my fate's presenting
All the best in life, God has given us-
this I sacrifice, to you dark black eyes.

Ich danke Ihnen, aber Ich bin nur die Geigerin !
Heyy
On a side note: What a lovely painting! Is she gypsy? ❤
No, the owner of the painting is Remzi Taşkıran. You can search on Google. In his painting, a young woman reflecting old Turkish traditions is depicted. Although most people think they are gypsies, unfortunately they are not. Such a thought is very normal because they use accessories similar to gypsies in Western countries.

Sir, I included that little interlude from the Czardas, cause I wanted to and it works. But the predominant song is Oci Ciornie, I’m sure you’d agree.
That Russian song, my grandma singing for me that song, she living in Moscow❤
❤️❤️❤️
ЭТУ НЕ РУссКУЮ песню поет ваша московская бабушка,продолжая имперскую ложь . Євген Гребінка,который НАПИСАЛ ЭТОТ РОМАНС ,УКРАИНЕЦ. И романс украинский.
I was staying and having dinner in a hotel in Moscow in 1959 with my parents and listened to a live performance of this beautiful song by a woman wearing an evening dress. We were joined at dinner by a radio announcer from Saint Louis, Missouri who we did not know. Referring to the Communists who accompanied us everywhere, he quipped: "They must .have allowed her to wear the dress tonight."
Es una canción gitana no rusa
Nope. It's old russian romance. Composers russian-german Florian Hermann, words Evgeni Grebyonka. Both of them are russians. Gypsy artists performed this song very often

I am playing the violin, Magdalena. I’m not sure what you wrote, maybe you can tell me in English?
@@danielabisenius9858 She said that was sang by a gypsy that played the Violin. Also mademoiselle... Who is the woman in the picture and where from? I am really curious as the comments say that the song has a Russian origin however, according to Magdalena it has a Gypsy origin. As the picture looks old I doubt that even the person be still alive. Anyway, keep practicing.
@@EtoDemerzel it's not a gypsy song. It's old russian romance. Composed the music russian-german Florian Hermann, words-Evgeny Grebyonka. Gypsy artists performed this song very often. Russian Gypsy's are very wonderful artists, singers and dancers, but there are no composers among themthem, famous composers
@@NO_NAME_722 Thanks a lot, I appreciate it.
What you hear, is simply me playing the violin. It was a bday party I was hired to play for. The picture, can be found on the internet where I found it.
a wonderful performance of the Ukrainian romance by Hrebinka - Dark Eyes. when the Russians started passing it off as their own, they couldn't translate Ukrainian word - OCHI - eyes, so they left it like that
Thank you 🙏
This word is not Ukrainian
strong))))) @@lazeee1
Ukrainian - OCHI
ruZZians - GLAZA
@@krasche Not ruZZians, but Russians. In the Russian and Ukrainian languages, the processes of archaization developed differently. There are many words that have long fallen out of use in the Russian language, but remain so in Ukrainian. For example, the words “oko”, “ochi”. In the Russian language dictionary there is a note - outdated, bookish, poetic, in general, relating to high style. But in everyday speech in Russian the modern synonym is used - glaz, glaza. I use Google Translate, so I may make mistakes
Очи черные с Русскими.
Claro .es una canción rusa
where is the image from? looks like turkish traditional clothes and jeweleries, the golden scales etc.
Remzi Taşkıran ressamın adı :) evet bende hemen fark ettim. Sanırım tabloyu aşerenlerde nerden aşerdiğini bilmiyor ki adres vermemişler.
