    I'm building a patriotic edition rod. Just started building recently as a hobby. Was trying to do a star pattern but that's alittle much for me being a starter. I ran across this video and love it. Thank you for the advice. Can't wait to start wrapping

    Nice work John, I have done several chevron wraps and a few of the chevron sideways wraps but never did a multi directional wrap like this one. Thanks for the demo . I will be doing one with my next build. Thanks for the suggestion and tutorial.

    Another great tutorial, John. I helped build fifteen fly rods for the local Casting for Recovery chapter that they started last year and did the decorative wraps on most of them. The majority of the designs were from your videos. I like how you get into the color theory as it relates to the color of the blank and where to locate the colors in the wrap.

    Hey reel, appreciate you posting these tutorial videos. I just got into rod building but there seems to be alot of gatekept knowledge locked behind pay walls. Im having to really dig on the internet to find little gems of info to really understand things. I don't want to pay $300 for in-person classes, or buy a bunch of $40 dollar books.

      I totally get it and I’m glad you found the video useful. No pressure, and only if you are interested, here are two resources that I think you should read or watch. The first is a link to my ebook on all things guide wraps reelbluecustomrods.com/product/guide-wraps-ebook/. And the other is a video I think prologue get a lot of value out of. John I think this is a simple question with a simple answer but as usual I'm lost in translation. I see you go to the right tape and make multiple wraps to line up the thread. Is that to hold the thread or find the proper thread to follow? I'm continuing to go through all the videos as I can. I can't tell you enough how these videos are making my mind work. Again Thank you.

    • @reelbluecustomrods
      @reelbluecustomrods  8 місяців тому

      Thank you Dave, and I’m very glad my videos are helping you with rod building. As for your question, it is both. It’s to hold the thread in place and to line up my next wrap along the thread. Thank you for watching and commenting Dave.

    John,
    Have you ever used a drop of super glue to hold micro guides in place prior to wrapping?
    Tom

    • @reelbluecustomrods
      @reelbluecustomrods  7 місяців тому

      No I have not Tom. Super glue sometimes turns white when it comes in contact with other products, so I stay away from it. Also, makes guide repair a pain in the but as well.

    Nice video John. If this wrap was done over an under wrap of a solid color would you apply a coat of finish to the under wrap first or just finish everything at the same time? Thanks

    • @reelbluecustomrods
      @reelbluecustomrods  8 місяців тому +1

      It all depends on the type of thread I was using. But for this one I would have put finish over the under wrap since the red, white, and blue threads are NCP thread.

    John ,love the videos. Question. This wrap move the center of the wrap around the blank making it difficult to center the wrap with the reel seat as the thread builds on top instead of horizontal along the blank. Any rule as to what to allow so as the wrap centerline finishes in the centerline of the reel seat

    • @reelbluecustomrods
      @reelbluecustomrods  8 місяців тому

      No rule really Richard, but try starting the wrap on the left or right side of the parabolic bend - 45-90 degrees from center.
