That depends on where you live, I live in just north of Tucson in the foothills of the Catalina Mountains and there's no need to replace the windows because the weather is mostly mild and even when it gets "hot" there's always a breeze coming down off the mountains.
Not bad. I did this but with lots more in 2015. Totally off grid, 27 miles from a power source' In Flagstaff az. It's in the paper. Used 400 watts of solar from renergy solar And build my own system. Same system is still working today Only upgraded to 600. Refrigerator freezer, TV, Fans and led lights. Cast iron woodburning stove. Queen size bed in the loft. 196 Square feet perfect for 2. Also used energy seal blown in Self expanding foam. Same green foam used in the baby's rooms in the hospital. Totally amazing and adds 30% ragidity to the structure. Removed the aluminum windows and add a double pane gas filled vinyl windows. Big improvement. Good start guys have fun. I did for 3 and a 1/2 years before I sold it and moved. Oh and total cost $15,000 not including property. Sold for over $180k. Off grid ❤️
Very nice. Inspiring, thank you. I would like to do the same in Tennessee. I'm going to build in a very remote, rural location, completely off-grid, also. A Batchelor pad for myself and my dog. Another out building/garage for the truck, ATV, and storage of supplies. I can't wait. Saving my money now....
Last yr, my son's friend bought this and we wired it for him in a weekend! Elec hot water tank went under the stair landing. Elec Panel was above that with elec service meter on the N end of the building. Circuits went up through upper and lower stair well walls. Toilet, shower, was under stairs, 30" door on rt end. Kitchen cabinets from stair to bathroom door. Wood stove in S. back corner of liv room. Mini/split AC N end, next to elec service. Upstairs big bedroom and sleeper/sofa down stairs for company. His Tuff Shed roof sagged and walls spread after heavy rains! We pulled the walls back in with come-alongs, Bolted steel cables thru the wall headers, next to each roof rafter with turn buckles in the center for adjusting. Then added an L shaped brace above the ceiling and short vertical 2x4's bracing the center ridge. Building wouldn't have passed a framing inspection as-is but the guys who built the kit weren't framers and there was no inspections out in the country... Glad we caught it in the elec rough in stage!

I have a septic that can handle a three-bathroom cabin. I am not allowed to put a bathroom in a cabin less then 600 sq/ft by county regulations, but I can have up to two in trailers. So I built a 4x8 bathroom on a trailer just out the back for anyone on the property to use.

strongly recommend you put in holes for ventilation for the solar inverter setup, otherwise that thing will cook itself to death within low single digit years
Great advise, I will be building a solar shed this spring for the equipment. I will add some 12v fans to help with the circulation in the shed. Thnx for the advise, have a great day.
All the ideas are great. How many different sheds did you use. At the beginning the main floor at the end wall opposite the door had a window centered in it and the loft above it. Then later the loft was above the the door that is offset and the kitchen area opposite the door has an offset window. All this moving of windows and doors means the outside siding would have to be changed. The window in the loft seems to have gotten bigger too. So, how many?
The sheds I was in at home depot were base sheds that I was looking at to order. I worked with a Tuff shed rep and ordered a Pro Premier barn shed, similar to the one in the thumb nail, with modifications to the loft, window placements and a outside home door. I extended the loft by 5 feet, with a porch. So the one I built and modified were different then the ones shown in the home depot parking lot. Hope this clarifies the different in sheds. Have a great day.
@@FearlessRambler I do that for my shed which is powered by a 20W solar cell and a 100 AH deep cell battery. The reason for using a mechanical instead of an electronic timer is that as the battery voltage decreases below the design operating voltage of the timer the timer's logic may become unstable. I use a the 100 AH battery in case I want to run some corded power tools like table saws.
Thanx, that's the great thing of youtube. You can learn from other and give it a try. That how I have gotten any of this stuff done. Thanx for watching and commenting on these activities. Have a great day.
I can get up to 15 ft of snow at the properties, I had this shed reinforced to handle the snow load. I would check with the shed rep on any conditions you might need.
I feel spray foam is always better but depends on your budget and location of your shed. As you can see I used fiberglass and foam panels for the insulation. My shed is two hours away from a box store and It is almost impossible to get a contractor up to my property. So I installed the pink stuff. It is more DIY and easy to staple in place. Just make sure you use a vapor barrier and roof venting. Have a great day.
That Ikea kitchen will last about 3 years. Like the project tho. Would have spray foamed (closed cell) tho for insulation and structural improvement. Hate the exposed fasteners on the siding and roof…they always leak…only go with hidden fasteners.
Live and learn, but this has been a fun project. I went the easy route on the insulation. Spay would have been so much nicer. Thanx for the comment and have a great day .
You need a touch of ambience . . . Get one of those large (26"x20.5") oval black tubs from TractorSupply to pour a cement hearth with multi colored pebbles as decoration. Now get a SPARK mini potbelly stove. Now you in the WayBack Machine 😃. Lovely job on your cabin ✅
This was a weekender shed. It has a lot of extra. I beefed out the rafters to handle the snow load. I put in the loaf using 2x12 ply but you can have them put it in. The 5 widows I paid extra for. Thats about it.
The shed was around 13K. I probably have an additional 8K with the wiring, solar, kitchen, drywall/trim and flooring/carpet. You could go cheaper by not putting a full 12v and 110v electrical. The LPG vented heater alone was around $1K. The IKEA Cabinets were not cheap either, around $1K. Refig was $289 at Home-depot and the gas stove was around $425. The wood flooring was on clearance ($.68 psf) and the carpet was a remnant at a local carpet outlet.
In 2013 I had Tuff Shed build a 26x40 garage, framed half as a one bedroom 1 bath and the other half is a 2 car garage. Cost me 30k to build with slab and 6k to finish out the living area with 200 amp service. All labor from me.
Sorry I don't know. I bought a 4x8 trailer for a bathroom and framed a shed on top of the trailer so I could move around the property and is within the county rules of bathrooms that are allowed on trailers with no size reqs. with only a land use permit
The solar worked well for the 12V lights and the 110v, but have not tested out the refrigerator yet, need to change out the batteries in the spring. Thanx for the comment
How much did you pay for the shed including renovations inside together? Because I want to buy one converter to a Tiny House on wheels like 10 x 24 or 10 x 20 could that be possible to do?
Wow, George this is epic! This was incredible to see. You have done a fabulous job building a home away from home. We can't wait to see more. Thanks for sharing this adventure and thanks for the shout out too.
The county does not allow a bathroom in a building less then 600 sq/ft, but they did require us to put in a large septic system to handle three bathrooms. They also allow bathrooms on a trailer, so I have my camp trailer tied into the septic, but I am also in the middle of building a 4x8 bathrooms just in the back on a trailer bed. I will show this project when the snow melts. It will be used by those using the bunk house and tent camping up there. Have a nice day.
I always look at these sheds and think what a great she-shed it would make or a joke that that’s where my dad will go 😆. So so I just have the rifle for the room but hey it’s a start 😆 great video!
It would be a great project for a she-shed. With mountain lions ans bears that go through the property, sometimes you need to be prepared. At least a noise maker. Have a great day.
I'm curious did u insulate against the ceiling or use baffles. I'm at a standstill because I was advised by someone who did that said because of no ventilation above insulation condensation built up and traped into insulation and HE had to remove all from ceiling after he finished.
I up graded the rafter and trusses to 2x6 and 2x8 for snow load. The construction of the walls is 2x4 (16 inches between centers). The cabin is wrapped and for the roof insulation I installed ventilation. I added Gable and roof ridge vent with a metal roof. Between the insulation and the roof, I added insulation baffles to help with the condensation build up and air flow from the gable to the roof ridge vent. Hope this answered you question. This seems to be working in my area and condensation. Have a great day.

Can I ask how you insulated the floors. I already have my shed up on blocks but its really hard to climb under there. Is there an easier way to get it insulated that will last a long time or am I going to have to jack up the building to get that done?
How many solar panels did you need Im total I want to make a shed house too and want to go solar and probably propane or maybe a wood stove any recommendations and what I will need to convert to a solar set up
Last year I used two solar panels and two 12V 100 Ah lead acid batteries. That keep the lights, ceiling fan and TV going. This year I am adding two more panels and 2 more batteries so I can run the refrigerator. Calculation says that will work, but time will tell.

This is a summer use shed, so the Lithium should work out fine. When the real cold shows up I will close up the shed and store the batteries at home. Thanx for the info. Have a great day.
I thought about it, this frig was under $239 and had a rating of 297 kWt Estimated year use. The 12/120 were around $700 - $1200 at the time. I did the math and my solar system would handle it with a small 110/120 inverter, so I went with it. If it doesn't work out then I will move to a LPG Frig.
Can you give a ballpark estimate of what this cost you? My husband and I were thinking about doing something like this for our son that's graduating soon for a shed we'll put on our property.

Silly question. What is the rock/pebble mix called you have in video under solar panels you unboxed? I like it very much and redoing my front yard. TYIA
We used crushed rock, there is between 6-12 inches used as the base for the shed. Crushed stone is used as aggregate in construction for drainage. This was suggested by Tuff Shed
you went with the exact model I want! I currently have a 12 X 8 shed, and want to upgrade to the 12 X16... and the tall barn model is what I want. nice video! hope the tiny house survives the weather!
It was a nice model, I did extend the loft a few feet. The county allows for a shed up to 200 sqft with a land use permit. I would have gone a little larger if the could have, but this was fine. Have a great day.
The county did not allow for a restroom put in the bunk house, so I have built a 3/4 bath just out back hooked to a septic. So yap you have to head out side, the benefit is the people sleeping in tents on the propriety can go use the bathroom with out disturbing those sleeping in the bunk house. Have a great day. ua-cam.com/video/zpy15Ls0K1M/v-deo.html I have finished the bathroom, this vid shows what it looked like in the spring,

Can tell you those plastic deck boxes don't last mine was lucky it made it 4 years and I live in Southside VA so not exposed to alot of snow .It was protected from summer heat by a pergola I built and in sumer pergola had shade cloth on it . I spent over 200 dollars on that box to store furniture cushions in the winter . Then I built a wood one with feet and waterproofed it
Sounds like a wonderful place. It sure means more when you put the effort building yourself. Thanx for the info, Nice job. Have a great day.
@@FearlessRambler back then it was cheaper to build your own , now not so much . got a great pic of a baby bear sitting on a rocking chair on the front porch
how are you handiling you toileting needs? how are bring in & using the water for the sink?
I have a septic that can handle a three-bathroom cabin. I am not allowed to put a bathroom in a cabin less then 600 sq/ft by county regulations, but I can have up to two in trailers. So I built a 4x8 bathroom on a trailer just out the back for anyone on the property to use.
The property has a water connection, so water doesn't need to be hauled in.
Are you ready to build the best chicken coop ever? Then you need this book! ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxLum--iPp9YKZ09j1BMdHaBMLkrGfIbcm It has tons of awesome barns and coops that you can choose from, without making you dizzy with too many options. The book is super easy to follow, with lots of pictures and videos to show you how it's done. But don't expect to learn everything about chickens here, this book is all about the structures. You'll have to look elsewhere for chicken care tips. Trust me, this book is a must-have for any chicken lover!
This is what we have done "Tiny House Heating with NO Electricity for OFF-Grid" ua-cam.com/video/T5fXSBjAVKA/v-deo.html . Take a look and have a great day.
I was curious on how to do solar power for my outside bedroom shed, thank you for sharing this idea, this is awesome 😊
Glad it helped
Good to see you didn't skip the vapor barrier! This has always been a dream of mine. Cheers!
It was part of the shed kit, it good to have it on. Thnx for the comment. Have a great day.
Thank you for sharing and you have a beautiful lady helping you. I hope you guys have many fun times in the cabin 👍🏻
Thanks so much, Terri is the also the smart one. Have a great day
I subbed in the first 45 seconds because I like you already.
thanx for joining the crew here at this channel. We always like new friends, Have a great day.
The shotgun near the bed speaks for itself! xD Lovely little home.
We do have bears and cougars, but sad to say that that is only a broken bb shooter. Have a great day.
strongly recommend you put in holes for ventilation for the solar inverter setup, otherwise that thing will cook itself to death within low single digit years
Great advise, I will be building a solar shed this spring for the equipment. I will add some 12v fans to help with the circulation in the shed. Thnx for the advise, have a great day.
Very nice work, it looks sensible and do-able!
You’re a trip, dude! I love it. Thoroughly enjoyed the vid and continue fearlessly rambling 🖖
Thank you, one day I will finish and have a place to lay my head. Have a great day.
Get a mechanical timer light/power switch. That way you never leave your main lights on and run your batteries down when you don't need light.
Thats a great idea. I probably need to put a timer on each circuit.
@@FearlessRambler I do that for my shed which is powered by a 20W solar cell and a 100 AH deep cell battery. The reason for using a mechanical instead of an electronic timer is that as the battery voltage decreases below the design operating voltage of the timer the timer's logic may become unstable.
I use a the 100 AH battery in case I want to run some corded power tools like table saws.
did the same, need advice with drawing the heat out the ventilation. i have a open ceiling
I used a ridge vent, but is insulated. If you need to draw out heat, a small attic fan could work, but depends on you electrical situation.
Love the wholesome narration haha
Thnx for the comment, if you want some more wholesome comments, try the Finished shed vid, ua-cam.com/video/Gw-fqnAReis/v-deo.html . have a great day.
I know nothing about construction or anything but I’m glad I checked this out, you are such a sweetheart with good vibes. Nice video dude!
Looks like you're on your way to a very cool setup! 🇺🇸🤜
Thanx, that's the great thing of youtube. You can learn from other and give it a try. That how I have gotten any of this stuff done. Thanx for watching and commenting on these activities. Have a great day.
Look absolutely beautiful man!!
Are these things strong or can they be knocked down easily?
I can get up to 15 ft of snow at the properties, I had this shed reinforced to handle the snow load. I would check with the shed rep on any conditions you might need.
What do you recommend on a repurposed shed? Also, spray foam or fiberglass insulation? Thank you 😊
I feel spray foam is always better but depends on your budget and location of your shed.
Such a great build! Great video also. Thank you!
Glad you like it! Thnx for the comment. Have a great dsy.
10:03 what was the think ? Tatar borek ?
Looks so awesome!!!!!
He is the finished shed if you are interested. ua-cam.com/video/Gw-fqnAReis/v-deo.html Thnx for the comment and have a great day.
LOL
WHOA! You all made that look amazing!
Thank you so much!! Its been a fun hobby. Have a great day.
Can you discuss what things were added to allow for buildout.. from home depor. Ie the studs have to be at for insulation etc..
This was a weekender shed. It has a lot of extra. I beefed out the rafters to handle the snow load. I put in the loaf using 2x12 ply but you can have them put it in. The 5 widows I paid extra for. Thats about it.
What is your estimated cost to convert shed to tiny house? Thanks
Cool sounds like a fun project
Wonderful! Could a 8x16 be mounted on a trailer?
Sorry I don't know. I bought a 4x8 trailer for a bathroom and framed a shed on top of the trailer so I could move around the property and is within the county rules of bathrooms that are allowed on trailers with no size reqs. with only a land use permit
Good video. Keep us posted on how the solar power system works in practice .Thanks for sharing.
Around 30k. That's include the solar. Septic, the kitchen are all the other stuff. The shed itself was around 12k. Have a great day
What’s the maximum sustained winds that such shed can handle?
Sorry, that's one question I don't know. We have had winds over 70 mph and it seamed to handle it ok. You might want to talk to Tuff Shed.
Excellent beats rent. I think i would put is on a slab with blocks
Wow, George this is epic! This was incredible to see. You have done a fabulous job building a home away from home. We can't wait to see more. Thanks for sharing this adventure and thanks for the shout out too.
Now you know why I miss your live shows. It would be fun to join your travel group during you chats.
@@FearlessRambler , we changed our time slot on Saturday to 6:00 PM EST . We hope you can join us live one day too, or better yet, on a cruise.
That is very Beautiful thanks for sharing ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks for watching. Have a great day
Is it possible to put a bathroom in one of these even if it doesn't have a full bathtub just a shower stall?
Solar no good outside when cold or hot wouldn't want to up those stairs lol not very rugged. Nice finish on the job
Thnx for the comment, yap not quite stares and not really a ladder lol
Amazing work! Underrated video
Much appreciated!
❤ thank you !
Planning my own shed to cabin conversion ….
Some how I missed where you installed the bathroom

Nice to have money, nicer to have skill, good job.
Thank you. Have a wonderful day.
Can I ask how you insulated the floors. I already have my shed up on blocks but its really hard to climb under there. Is there an easier way to get it insulated that will last a long time or am I going to have to jack up the building to get that done?
Great idea! Enjoyed the video! Be safe out there!
Thank you watching, Have a great day
How many solar panels did you need Im total I want to make a shed house too and want to go solar and probably propane or maybe a wood stove any recommendations and what I will need to convert to a solar set up
Last year I used two solar panels and two 12V 100 Ah lead acid batteries. That keep the lights, ceiling fan and TV going. This year I am adding two more panels and 2 more batteries so I can run the refrigerator. Calculation says that will work, but time will tell.
How do you deal with formaldehyde in the shed?
“You will own nothing and you will be happy”
Owning a small house on your own land is literally the opposite of "owning nothing" and living in a pod.
Yeah,Our homeowners insurance doubled!
It would of been nice to see a good picture of the inside when completed, 😊
Thanx for the comment, here is the shed finished, one year later. ua-cam.com/video/Gw-fqnAReis/v-deo.html If you don't mind, take a look and comment. (finished Shed)
Wow. Very good 👍👍 You gotta have some fun too. It takes a long time to get stuff done.
Thank you, it has been to build
I would love to know the total cost and time taken to complete. It is so tempting to build one of these in my back yard just to rent out.
The shed was around 13K. I probably have an additional 8K with the wiring, solar, kitchen, drywall/trim and flooring/carpet. You could go cheaper by not putting a full 12v and 110v electrical. Paint the trim before you cut/install it. Easier to do small dabs over nail holes and joints
tap, me and Terri talked about that after that last night, thanx for the comment so true
Batteries dont like cold much, especially LION so might need to insulated inside of deck box and install low draw heater
This is a summer use shed, so the Lithium should work out fine. When the real cold shows up I will close up the shed and store the batteries at home. Thanx for the info. Have a great day.
why not go with a 12v/120v rv fridge/freezer combo? they have some good size ones.
Do those solar panels come with directions how to install?
Excellent photography 📸
Thank you so much 😀
Will Prowse is pretty amazing.
Thank you
Very good presentation and craftmanship

Thanks for sharing...Excellent job!

Can you give a ballpark estimate of what this cost you? My husband and I were thinking about doing something like this for our son that's graduating soon for a shed we'll put on our property.
The shed was around 13K. I probably have an additional 8K with the wiring, solar, kitchen, drywall/trim and flooring/carpet. You could go cheaper by not putting a full 12v and 110v electrical. Great job sir keep up the great work
Thanks, will do!
This is really cool! Great ideas. I love how your family helps out and hangs out. May you have many years of enjoyment. Thanks for the content.
Thank you, have a great day
This is so cool 😎 I enjoyed it.
It looks fabulous! I love it!
Thank you, lots a work but it should pay of in fun
you went with the exact model I want!
👍👍
HI!! Great video. I have a few questions, Did you install a restroom?
The county did not allow for a restroom put in the bunk house, so I have built a 3/4 bath just out back hooked to a septic. So yap you have to head out side, the benefit is the people sleeping in tents on the propriety can go use the bathroom with out disturbing those sleeping in the bunk house. Have a great day.
ua-cam.com/video/zpy15Ls0K1M/v-deo.html I have finished the bathroom, this vid shows what it looked like in the spring,
