      That depends on where you live, I live in just north of Tucson in the foothills of the Catalina Mountains and there's no need to replace the windows because the weather is mostly mild and even when it gets "hot" there's always a breeze coming down off the mountains.

    Not bad. I did this but with lots more in 2015. Totally off grid, 27 miles from a power source' In Flagstaff az. It's in the paper. Used 400 watts of solar from renergy solar And build my own system. Same system is still working today Only upgraded to 600. Refrigerator freezer, TV, Fans and led lights. Cast iron woodburning stove. Queen size bed in the loft. 196 Square feet perfect for 2. Also used energy seal blown in Self expanding foam. Same green foam used in the baby's rooms in the hospital. Totally amazing and adds 30% ragidity to the structure. Removed the aluminum windows and add a double pane gas filled vinyl windows. Big improvement. Good start guys have fun. I did for 3 and a 1/2 years before I sold it and moved. Oh and total cost $15,000 not including property. Sold for over $180k. Off grid ❤️

      Very nice. Inspiring, thank you. I would like to do the same in Tennessee. I'm going to build in a very remote, rural location, completely off-grid, also. A Batchelor pad for myself and my dog. Another out building/garage for the truck, ATV, and storage of supplies. I can't wait. Saving my money now....

    Last yr, my son's friend bought this and we wired it for him in a weekend! Elec hot water tank went under the stair landing. Elec Panel was above that with elec service meter on the N end of the building. Circuits went up through upper and lower stair well walls. Toilet, shower, was under stairs, 30" door on rt end. Kitchen cabinets from stair to bathroom door. Wood stove in S. back corner of liv room. Mini/split AC N end, next to elec service. Upstairs big bedroom and sleeper/sofa down stairs for company. His Tuff Shed roof sagged and walls spread after heavy rains! We pulled the walls back in with come-alongs, Bolted steel cables thru the wall headers, next to each roof rafter with turn buckles in the center for adjusting. Then added an L shaped brace above the ceiling and short vertical 2x4's bracing the center ridge. Building wouldn't have passed a framing inspection as-is but the guys who built the kit weren't framers and there was no inspections out in the country... Glad we caught it in the elec rough in stage!

      @lakishadm6587 Thanks so much. I would start with your neighborhood. If you live in an hoa community they have guidelines on how big it can be, color etc. Luckily my neighborhood doesn't have one so that was a bonus. Next you want to figure out the purpose of your space and if you want it to be a standalone unit like a tiny house or just an outfitted shed. If you want to make out a tiny home look for land and price the cost of adding utilities to that area. It can get expensive.

    All the ideas are great. How many different sheds did you use. At the beginning the main floor at the end wall opposite the door had a window centered in it and the loft above it. Then later the loft was above the the door that is offset and the kitchen area opposite the door has an offset window. All this moving of windows and doors means the outside siding would have to be changed. The window in the loft seems to have gotten bigger too. So, how many?

      The sheds I was in at home depot were base sheds that I was looking at to order. I worked with a Tuff shed rep and ordered a Pro Premier barn shed, similar to the one in the thumb nail, with modifications to the loft, window placements and a outside home door. I extended the loft by 5 feet, with a porch. So the one I built and modified were different then the ones shown in the home depot parking lot. Hope this clarifies the different in sheds. Have a great day.

    Get a mechanical timer light/power switch. That way you never leave your main lights on and run your batteries down when you don't need light.

    • @FearlessRambler
      @FearlessRambler  Рік тому +4

      Thats a great idea. I probably need to put a timer on each circuit.

      @johnpettimore5806 Рік тому +5

      @@FearlessRambler I do that for my shed which is powered by a 20W solar cell and a 100 AH deep cell battery. The reason for using a mechanical instead of an electronic timer is that as the battery voltage decreases below the design operating voltage of the timer the timer's logic may become unstable.
      I use a the 100 AH battery in case I want to run some corded power tools like table saws.

    What do you recommend on a repurposed shed? Also, spray foam or fiberglass insulation? Thank you 😊

    • @FearlessRambler
      @FearlessRambler  8 місяців тому +1

      I feel spray foam is always better but depends on your budget and location of your shed. As you can see I used fiberglass and foam panels for the insulation. My shed is two hours away from a box store and It is almost impossible to get a contractor up to my property. So I installed the pink stuff. It is more DIY and easy to staple in place. Just make sure you use a vapor barrier and roof venting. Have a great day.

    That Ikea kitchen will last about 3 years. Like the project tho. Would have spray foamed (closed cell) tho for insulation and structural improvement. Hate the exposed fasteners on the siding and roof…they always leak…only go with hidden fasteners.

    What is your estimated cost to convert shed to tiny house? Thanks

    • @FearlessRambler
      @FearlessRambler  2 роки тому +6

      The shed was around 13K. I probably have an additional 8K with the wiring, solar, kitchen, drywall/trim and flooring/carpet. You could go cheaper by not putting a full 12v and 110v electrical. The LPG vented heater alone was around $1K. The IKEA Cabinets were not cheap either, around $1K. Refig was $289 at Home-depot and the gas stove was around $425. The wood flooring was on clearance ($.68 psf) and the carpet was a remnant at a local carpet outlet.

    I'm curious did u insulate against the ceiling or use baffles. I'm at a standstill because I was advised by someone who did that said because of no ventilation above insulation condensation built up and traped into insulation and HE had to remove all from ceiling after he finished.

    • @FearlessRambler
      @FearlessRambler  Рік тому +5

      I up graded the rafter and trusses to 2x6 and 2x8 for snow load. The construction of the walls is 2x4 (16 inches between centers). The cabin is wrapped and for the roof insulation I installed ventilation. I added Gable and roof ridge vent with a metal roof. Between the insulation and the roof, I added insulation baffles to help with the condensation build up and air flow from the gable to the roof ridge vent. Hope this answered you question. This seems to be working in my area and condensation. Have a great day.
