Thin layer chromatography (TLC) principle explained

This lecture explains about the thin layer chromatography technique. TLC principle is well explained with example. Thin layer chromatography is the easy method to separate different types of chemical molecules from each other with the help of thin layer chromatography plate also known as the TLC plate. Thin layer chromatography separates molecules based on the differential movement rate in the tlc stationary phase which is calculated with the retention factor or Rf value.

You also needed to explain that some plates won't show up in UV light so they have to be sprayed with whatever spray is needed. Also, the Rf value isn't for quantitative analysis. It's used to ID the sample against a standard.

Also in some cases IODINE is used. So that the compounds absorb iodine , which will show up as Brown spots.
