I feel like spears are good for hunting deers, you sneak up near it and throw the spear, if you miss or they live, you just pick up the spear and it is moderately easy to hit them whilst they are running. (I know I'm extremely late but just wanted to share my thoughts)
@@tomlunn15 i personally just go with a bow and wooden arrows and it is good for me. one hit and they are dead, plus dont need to sneak since i can do it from a distance.
Me and my mate first saw a plains biome, I thought it would be a good idea to land and try and battle, my level 1 bronze armour didn’t fair to well, let alone my friends leather armour
I feel that the atgeirs work pretty good against blobs too, even though they aren't weak to pierce damage. The long reach of the atgeir means that you can hit them without triggering their spew of poison
Fulings, not a weakness specifically but frost arrows will slow them down so you have a few more seconds to pop them a couple more times before they get to you. Controls larger groups as well so they don’t all arrive at once.
I find hitting the Fulings with ooze bombs is most effective, since they travel in numbers but are quick and maintain distance when needed. The poisonous gas will case a nice AOE and you can play cat and mouse with them until their health is depleted. Obviously you can say this for lots of species, but I found they're most helpful on Fulings.
Oh yeah, any time I go out, my hotbar is ALWAYS a polearm, a bow, an axe, a shield, and a pickaxe, followed by my three stacks of food items. In combat, I'm always either using the polearm or the axe+shield, and it's pretty easy to discern why that is. Polearms are so good, especially with that extra stagger on it's special attack, you can stagger Trolls with that (a Level 4 Bronze Atgeir can potentially stagger a one star Troll, though an iron one can do the job just as well if not better). Meanwhile the axe+shield is choice for just about anything else (though I'm still going through my first play-through and I plan on possibly adding the Mace to my options, for stuff that the axe doesn't cut it against... pun not intended).
So the take away from this, Blunt should be your primary weapon with fire arrows being your secondary weapon. That'll handle the weakness for 80%+ of mobs you'll face.
Just what I gathered lol. Almost everything is weak to Blunt and Fire, or doesn't have a resistance to them. So use Maces, Torches and Fire arrows immediately. Grab stag breaker when possible. Everything else is a special case.🤣
Off the top of my head, trolls, abominations, and lox are resistant to blunt damage, but that's fairly situational. Some people like to primarily use the sword, which does, I think, have the best mix in terms of DPS, attack speed, attack range etc (dagger can out speed and DPS a sword, but I found that having to be right on top of enemies to use it put me in way too many dangerous situations) and have a mace as back up. I just use a mace as my primary and an axe as my back up, even though the axe is not a great weapon, because I need to carry one most of the time anyway.
If you want to use as few weapons as possible but still be prepared - then I recommend one-handed shield + spear. The spear is by far the most useful weapon in my opinion. The spear is cheap to build/upgrade and is effective enough against everything except from blobs, rock golems and skeletons - use a blunt one-handed for those encounters. Learn to parry because that gives you a huge damage boost! Spear has super quick attack speed but is greedy on stamina, so get good at preserving stamina during fights, don't sprint around unless you have to avoid AOE attacks. Also, carry bow and wood arrows for hunting or when you want to do damage from a distance. If you have better arrows then great, but I wouldn't grind to build better arrows than the wooden ones. This is just what I find to be the most effective and least grindy set of weapons to have at my disposal. I recommend trying all the weapons and experiment with them yourself. :)
well you need a club for most things, and Frostner and Porcupine the best weapons are maces, so I just use this on everything. Many mobs are resistant to pierce, so doesnt really make sense to carry and train up multiple weapons. bow for distance, clubs for melee
For the Deathsquito, my meta means to attack them is to get a atgeir and do the round attack when they come in for their bite. After you memorize the radius range of the atgeir, it's easy to know when to time it. Might take a bit of practice tho.
@@julianmendoza9899 yeah, I feel like there’s not a lot of difference between each arrow and the damage they put out. Maybe they need to tweak that a little bit.
Me and my mates kept talking and loving our boars yet they never got tamed we were actually feeling down and asking them ''we gave you everything why are you still hating us?'' until I watched this video and figured they were afraid of the giant bonfire that stood in front of their pen LOL
Fang Spear is my weapon of choice for Deathsquitoes because the first hit comes out quick, and because they fly diagonally upwards and away after you block them, the over the shoulder poke animation really comes in handy for giving you a longer window. I found the reaction windows were much tighter and I had to be very mindful of terrain when using a sword or they'd fly above the swing. Fang Spear also seems the obvious choice for Lox. They're weak to pierce, and it has a *far* higher DPS than bow & arrow, and no need to kite. Parry and poke is very potent. If you have decent health, stam, and armor you can risk not stopping after getting in 3 hit post parry, since the 4th hit will frequently stun him and interrupt the bite, and it'll go down in one satisfying burst attack. If you can parry (and you really should be learning to parry), then Iron Mace is the best vs. Stone Golems. It only takes two 3-hit parry combos and a couple more regular hits to down him with the mace. Much better damage than the pickaxe and you don't have to resort to cheesing them with the terrain either.
I find the best way to kill fulings is to use the frostner. Most of the time when they're slowed down you can walk up to them and kill then with the frostner without them attacking back. Their circle pattern they use to try and surround the player is also a good weakness because you can hit and freeze, lets say, three of them and just pick them off as they move at a snale's paste usually away from you to try and complete that pattern. But sometimes they'll hit you which isnt a problem if you can block or dodge them. For me they usually can only get two swings in before they try to run away whilst still being part frozen.
If you have multiple players you can also just jump on top of the serpent's head and kill it with a pickaxe in open water and get majority of the drops including the scales. Other player just drives the boat and come pick you up when its done
I think they shoud do obsidian tipped fire arrows or with the New future metal. Helps lot in endgame When you want accely good damage with fire damage.
A tactic that works good on Lox is to sneak up on them and backstab with a Black Metal Dagger on the first hit, as it often does half their HP in damage. Then stagger their ram attacks with a shield. Roll out of the way when they smash with their feet.
It's very easy to cover all three physical damage types through organic play. Chopping down trees is time consuming, so most players will upgrade their axe when given the opportunity, giving them access to a Slashing weapon. Bows are useful for attacking enemies from a distance, so most players will make one for that reason, giving them a Piercing weapon. And finally, the first weapon that most people will use is the Club, which is a Blunt weapon. So long as they keep using maces, while also keeping on top of upgrading their axe and bow, they'll have a weapon for almost any enemy encounter in the game.
I have something to add that you might find funny, but... Trolls also have a weak point in the crotch. If you shoot them there or stab them there, you tend to get more yellow damage than any other part of the body. It might seem weird or fake, but after testing all sorts of weapons on them, the one place I consistently crit when attacking a troll that is aware of me is the crotch.
About golems. While pickaxe does a good damage per hit, it is very slow and has a very short reach. And, since, golems does not drop any useful loot, very slow and *very* tough to kill most players will be better with just luring them in a pit and leaving them there. You probably will have a lot of holes in the ground after mining silver. Using harpoon will make things even easier, just drag them in and just go by your business. You don't have to kill everything you see:)
There's also no new spawns if you trap them in holes. There's some bug in the game right now where Golems sometimes respawn very quickly after being killed. Trapping them in a hole is a very good strategy.
@@Jonsse I cover the hole with roof peices. It keeps the drakes off them a little longer. The drakes will eventually kill the golem and he will respawn.
My highest one hit damage was with the Dark Metal Sword, special attack, vs the new Abomination in the Swamps: 972 - how about you guys? Where are you scoring top damages? Overall and unfortunately, at Endgame, there is no weapon with a better damage distribution and attack speed than the Dark Metal Sword.
I like how the troll gets attacked solely and only in the groin area... "take your atgeir and..." WACK! Or you take your knife and sneak up from behind " WACK in the ballz!!!
While not exactly “weak to”, a charged arrow shot will stagger wolves for a very long time. After which you can easily flip to the melee weapon of your choice and dispatch them without worry.
I find the stagger easy to get, but doesn't last too long. I made atgeir my weapon of choice, but after update I'm using round shield and dagger. Very effective once skill is up a bit.
Skeletons are also semi weak to spirit. All undead are semi weak to spirit damage. Blob and oozer are undead and also semi weak to spirit, Fenrings are also semi weak to it. Drakes are also weak to poison.
For the Ogre you can kill it without killing the first boss, you need, a bow, and good kiting abilities, shot him in the heat every time you can while going backwards and there you go.
Atgeir power attack for trolls, and for deathsquitos you want to spin attack right before they get on you. Hammers for Golems. Crystal axe for undead. Arrows for Drakes, Fuling, Berserkers, Lox, and any other heavy hitters. Ground pound leeches with hammer weapons.
I usually fight Fulings with my Frostner (1h mace that does cold & spirit damage) as it slows their (attack) speed down. And the Porcupine (1h mace with blunt & piercing damage) against Loxes.
I ran around chasing deers or until I spot a deer from a distance and throw my spear. I lack the patience to kill these deers but it works for me since I'm pretty good with the spear
Also at the very beginning when I first played valheim, I thought necks are weak to frost damage because the yellow number would pop up when I hit them with frostner. But after watching your video I realized the reason might be that they tend to stay in the water.🤣
I remember killing my first Lox by luring them into a Swamp and letting an Abomination deal with them, luckly (or sadly) a Lox is far more powerful than an Abomination, so he managed to kill at least 2 of them before dying
You probably don't want to slow the sea serpent down with frost arrows. You should use your harpoon and take them on land before you kill them so you get the scales for a shield.
Use an iron mace and iron shield against golems on mountain. You can stagger golems with the shield and kill them with the mace very quickly. About 6 or 7 hits.
...You can sneak? 😅 Dangit, I could've been dealing with those trolls so much easier this whole time. Ah well, gotta learn somehow. I've just been kiting them across the map while peppering them with fire arrows.

Thanks guy, I can't wait to get back out there and give'm the business!
Thanks super helpful, I like those tutorials so keep going doing those
Glad you like them!
Thanks Jiroc that was super helpful :)
I ran around chasing deers or until I spot a deer from a distance and throw my spear. I lack the patience to kill these deers but it works for me since I'm pretty good with the spear
Spear is great to use!
Also at the very beginning when I first played valheim, I thought necks are weak to frost damage because the yellow number would pop up when I hit them with frostner. But after watching your video I realized the reason might be that they tend to stay in the water.🤣
Great job, thanx fir this tips.
Thank you man, very usefull :D
I remember killing my first Lox by luring them into a Swamp and letting an Abomination deal with them, luckly (or sadly) a Lox is far more powerful than an Abomination, so he managed to kill at least 2 of them before dying
amazing work!
Trolls have another weakness. If you shut them with a bow a little under a head you will stun them for few seconds.
I'll have to try that. Thx for the tip.
I kill a bunch of deer pretty quick with bow. Dagger w/ sneak seems like too much effort to me lol
When you can make a bow ;)
You probably don't want to slow the sea serpent down with frost arrows. You should use your harpoon and take them on land before you kill them so you get the scales for a shield.
This comment is a year late but damn did you actually not watch the entire video 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
All these weaknesses remind me of dragons dogma, which had very similar enemies
Nice video and no bullshit, thanks !
greydwarf hate torches so that’s why they carry all materials needed to craft one and drop them on death.
GIVE EM THE BUSINESS YESSIR!
needs an update for frostcaves and mistlands, but otherwise helpful for existing mobs at the time
Liked & Subbed !
Right on! 🍻😁
Use an iron mace and iron shield against golems on mountain. You can stagger golems with the shield and kill them with the mace very quickly. About 6 or 7 hits.
thank you so much
🍻🍻🍻
1:28 when you wake up hungover after your tinder date, and look across the room
It’s also possible to stagger wraths with a shield. I know, too late to say but still
Very helpful, cheers 🥂 👍🏻👍🏻
Glad to hear it! 😁
Still informative even after 2 years but would you mind adding up the updated mobs to the list as well? Its gonna be very helpful
...You can sneak? 😅
Dangit, I could've been dealing with those trolls so much easier this whole time. Ah well, gotta learn somehow. I've just been kiting them across the map while peppering them with fire arrows.
Fire. Fire good.
