Brilliant. Thank you for that. Isn't it ironic that something as tough and durable as a birch log can be broken just by trolling it. Goes to show the power of social media :-)
I am 2000 hrs in Valheim, and I also did not know all of this stuff, just some parts of it (knew that it is useless to roll them into stumps, stones or buildings but did not know that the log does not take any damage when you roll it into a standing tree). The "door method" seems sound and fun, I'll definitely try it in my next game. Thanks for so detailed info!
You can also build a workbench next to existing buildings in meadows (or use a stone axe) to dismantle furniture, draugur villages are a bit risky, but can net you iron nails before leaving meadows (via raven throne). Trolls are by far the most fun for mass farming, can also let you skip the first boss if you still want deer/boar "invasions".
I didn't know that only logs do damage to logs but I've been taking advantage of it accidentally. I usually find a good patch of trees and play dominoes with the ones I'm felling to save time. Apparently it's also possible to get finewood from shipwrecks and furniture in the various ruins on the map if you're willing to go into the forest before beating the oversized deer.
I have almost as many hours as Jiroc. . . LOL. Though I knew the core aspects of this video - the biggest take away for me was penning in the logs. I usually let them free roam. :D But I might try to keep them a little in place next time. You mentioned rolling logs can do like 17 points of damage, though I know this varies, but i found pushing logs like a battering ram into the birch ones can do more. I have seen mid 20's in my games.
I'm so sorry about the loss of your beard, I was wondering if you'd like it if I donated mine? its not as glorious as yours was, but maybe if you wove it in?
Nice to see I caused some experiments. I sadly also head to realise I was wrong on that a day after I commented it :D But this brings up a amazing building idea. This means you can make bridges out of logs and as long as you have some blockers build betweens the logs the bridge will never be destroyed. And (I might bewrong on this one) I think enemies can't path over logs.
Its quite simple, logs deals collision damge. There is no mechanic for object taking damage when they collide with other object. Its only logs that deal damage
well if you're out and about pretty far from base and can't be bothered to build a repair bench with a roof you just keep rolling logs into trees to get more wood :P
The moving log does not take the damage. The stationary log is the one that will get damaged. You can roll beech into birch to break birch but the birch has to be motionless
I am amazed how you stretched two useful sentences into 8 minute video. Birch logs can't be damaged by anything other than specific mobs, players with specific instruments and collision with other logs. You can push logs more easily using opening animation of the wooden gates. That's it, thanks for the video.

If you use a sledge hammer against several logs next to a birch tree they do collision damage with zero initial momentum.

You're welcome. Thanks for watching
The beard is gone. No way
To Valhalla!
@JirocTheViking poor beard. It is with its brothers and sisters now in Valhalla lol
Something else you can do with gates is push boats off the beach or use gates to give your boat a boost to speed up.
No wonder why it was taking so long to break these birch. Thanks

Downhill woodcutting. :)
I hypothesized something like this must’ve been possible, but never got around to testing it! Very nice!
I'm more of a troll rodeo player for early finewood, fun tactic tho!
RIP beard!
good sir, i see many early game wood mills popping up with your door machinations lol
Your tips and tricks are always from another planet.
Hope to see some new taming videos soon 😉
I can see why this makes sense, but i would not bother to figure it out. So thanks for your video. :]

Super clever! I'll definitely be using this in future runs. Great video. 💯
thanks for "logging" this tip!
😄

that bridge idea is an interesting one. let me know if you try it out and it works!
So Cleaver! Never ceases to amaze me. I remember thinking maybe just needed more ramming speed. ha ha
Ramming speed!
Great video. Very methodical.
What if you push them off a cliff? Does the ground damage them?
I would have to double check but I don't think they take damage from falling and hitting the ground

good tip thanks
Great vid... Thanks!
If I recall from a Yag fight, birch don't take damage from him either.
So you could use logs as a defence by rolling them into creatures!
realy interesting. thanx, bro.
Wow. Good to know.

But good to know when ashlands comes into being XD
Interesting!
Thanks for this helpful tip. Where can i view more helpful sciencing the s**t out of things in Valheim?
I have a few Valheim playlists with tips and guides:
www.youtube.com/@JirocTheViking/playlists
that is nice info great video :)
Glad you liked it!
I just look for a boat wreck.
You look sooooo much younger!
nnnooo the awesome amazing beard is gone! it was so kool and awesome!
To Valhalla!
I honestly prefer to explore and find shipwrecks early game for my fine wood pre bronze axe. Rolling trees into each other is just not fun game play.
so door log invader removal?
Using doors to launch rolling logs at enemies/raids can be useful!
Seems like the door take
Much more effort and time to use the doors vs manual rolls.
Nice.
you can also break logs by throwing them of a cliff. i was chopping woods in a mountain and a couple fell over the mountainside and broke completely
Same for core wood ?
yep, logs only damage logs
Nah good od blue dude do a job for me
How can I get the bronze axe pls
mine copper and tin
@@JirocTheViking ty so much ♥

If you come to Germany at some point please remember to wear hat and/or beard or I'd walk right past you.

That's no fun. People are looking for entertainment and info. Some like to see the testing involved. Etc.
What happened to your beard?
Valhalla!
The Beard is gone oh no!
It went to Valhalla!
