Anyone else think their beast altmodes were chosen as an homage to Godzilla and King Kong? If that's common knowledge, I'm only just now realizing it. 😅
I was just thinking the same thing
Gozillza vs kingkong in g1
Ape vs. Dino
@@SPIDERtuber7610 apeface vs gridlock vs snapedragon
Thanks for telling me that
"Snapdragon mauled Daniel Witwicky"
Ah, i see why these guys are fan-favourites
LMAO.
Optimus Prime dies in Transformers the Movie (1986): "NOOOOOOO!"
Daniel Witwicky gets mauled by Snapdragon: "Umm, okay."
Well Daniel is Annoying.
@@there4you19 He's worse in the Japanese series.
@@RDSArcade Don't! Just Please Don't!
They were supposed to be Godzilla and King Kong. Hence: HORROR cons. As Godzilla and Kong were both originally marketed as horror films.
Idk how anyone thought giant monsters were a horror type film
@@MunchaBuncha Well it was because of they were originally shown and executed, and yeah, the original Godzilla and King Kong films were really scary back then
@@nathanielcatan6657 i see
@@MunchaBuncha The original Godzilla movie was presented and portrayed in much the way Cloverfield would be decades later - a giant, nearly unstoppable force of nature that turns humanity from dominant species into something like insects.
@@OtakuUnitedStudio I see
At this point they're kinda decepticon shock troops that you just see in one scene and never see again. Which sucks because I like Apeface's design, wish he got more time as a character.
You could always get a mask of him and pretend you are him as a homage to how much you love him
@@youtubestudiosucks978 Strange, but ok
@@youtubestudiosucks978 very strange
This gave me an idea for a case of Headmasterception. Have Snapdragon's headmaster turn into a head for him which he himself turned into a headmaster for Trypticon since they both have Godzilla inspired beast modes.
Mentioning that they don't really bathe makes me want a Basics on Transformers Hygiene/Self Care
Was thinkin the same thing
Always start the day with a good energon shower.
We do hear about ‘mineral baths’ (or was it oil baths? I honestly can’t remember…) in Transformers Prime, alongside seeing Knockout excessively polishing himself or fretting over his paint job, so honestly it could be a thing.
An a oil bath too!
Think of it like not ever washing your car.
I like that little Headmasters scene where Galvatron arm-hugs the Horrorcons like they're best buddies.
Japanese headmaster concept makes so much more sense. The heads having the conscience instead of two aliens sitting on top of each other
Yeah, that's why I love masterforce so much
Makes more sense, yes, but as a sci-fi writer I find the idea of the unified consciousness interesting and have used it as inspiration for a few characters over the years.
Plus it doesn't leave the Body useless when the head isn't on it.
"Decepticons are obsessed with combining. Put two of 'em in a room and within seconds one will be standing on the other's shoulders. Fact."

"Horrorcons" what a great name

I actually thought that Mindwipe, Weirdwolf, and Skullcrusher were a part of the Horrocons.
Great video, and perfect for Halloween.
They were just headmasters
They were all headmasters and under the command of Skorponok. The Horrorcons being triple changers was the difference.
Surprised there's not a version where they combine with each other yet.
I think the obvious reason for why they didn’t combine was because for one, there weren’t enough horrorcons to form a traditional combiner. Second, there ability as triple changers probably would’ve made it to difficult to have them be just a two bot combiner.
@@blackcomet2nd950 Good point.
@@blackcomet2nd950 you're right about that
"Decepticons are obsessed with combining. Put two of 'em in a room and within seconds one will be standing on the other's shoulders." --I just did what needs to be done
I don't know about the new ones, but G1s did, kinda? The jet modes combined to make Dreadwing, as I recall, which was a bigger aircraft rather than a bigger robot.
I remember as a kid being genuinely surprised and confused by the idea that apeface had a robot form. Like to me he was an ape that could turn into a plane
He was actually probably my favorite decepticon headmaster in the cartoon. Probably because I thought his head design was cool and I just thought it was hilarious how when the evil nebulans were getting inside the headmaster bodies, ape faces partner crawled inside the mouth to get into the headmaster body.
Honestly, throw out the robot mode and just have the ape body be a stylized robot mode would be fun on its own. He has fingers , so why need a separate robot form?
@@justarandomsasquatch1480Absolutely. Reject robot mode, become monkey.
The Legacy of Monke and Lizard lives on.
I didn't have many transformers as a kid, but I did get Apeface for Christmas one year. It easily became my favorite and I was very happy a couple years ago to buy the updated version.
I wonder if there were ever any plans for more Horrorcons that never made it into production.
Would have been a sick Combiner team
@@goodputin4324 abominus
@@alfordfelixon9470 Abominus is the combined form of the Terrorcons, not Horrorcons.
WFC Snapdragon is one of my favorite transformer toys, I love it to bits and Im glad you made a video about the horrorcons
While it was odd that TR didn't release Snapdragon, it's fitting that him and Apeface get full figure release in WFC even if there was bith of year gap between them.
It would be interesting match if someone would force Apeface and Snapdragon fight each other in GvK style fight.
Probably would start with Snapdragon enjoying a grease bath when suddenly Apeface throws something in there to mess with him and absolutely pissing Snapdragon off.
Love the idea of Triple Changers with robot, vehicle and beast mode.
For next year's Halloween the video could be about the Monsterbots, their Autobot counterparts.
Did 'em *last* Halloween!
And with the kingdom toyline their releasing a mew night prowler based off cheetor so it's good to see that unreleased figure getting a little love nowadays
If you mean shadow panther then that's a separate character who also is based on cheetor.
@@Unicronsupreme no lmao
Ooh, i had these two when i was a kid as toy, didn't know their backstory until today. Thanks lots for the video and bringing back nostalgic memories =)!
You never googled them?
Did you not have a computer at home?
Nice Godzilla VS Kong reference at the end card! It was HORRIFYINGLY accurate and well placed!
Snapdragon was one of my favorite toys growing up because my grandfather gave him to me. I still have all the pieces and immediately preordered his Earthrise version as soon as it was available.
Always interesting to hear how much more significant a toy is to a child just by who gave it to them.
Can confirm, Snapdragon is a WONDERFUL toy!
@@ryugaknight for sure. I’m sure a lot of us here have a fond memory of a transformers toy being given to them by a loved one.
@@tanman99 That warmed my heart. Thanks!
Kinda right there with ya. Except grandmother, and no specific bot. My Grandmother was the only one who got me transformers. Glad I'm not the only one that had an awesome grandparent!
I’d love to see the horrorcons fight the monsterbots
I still have my original G1 Apeface. He was one of my favorite toys as a kid. Great video, cheers!!
They definitely deserve much more attention as they are very overlooked in Transformers media. Would've been interesting to see a Grimlock vs Snapdragon battle tho
Too many characters
@@chrisedwards3214 You can never have too many characters!
Nice video, I would love an episode on another obscure G1 character, Devcon
So, basically, they're robot/jet versions of King Kong and Godzilla?
Yup
How did it take this video for me to realize that?
Yes japan.loves both
Didn't know Snapdragon had been intended as a merc in Earthrise. Which is funny as I had him displayed as one under the command of Double Dealer.
I recently found both of them at Ollie's for half price. They look good together on the shelf.
I’ve been ill in bed the last few days and your channel it only got me through
BUT has renewed my interest in Transformers. In fact I think you’ve made me more of a fan than ever
That's sad to hear. Get well soon!
Hopefully your health transforms, so you can roll out!
You didn't mention that they are both particularly powerful, but limited by their weak personalities.
Amazing episode as usual! Also, Happy Halloween in advance everyone!
Love the season 3 weirdo characters, would be great to see them in a future cartoon one day
Although figures like Snap Dragon, Crossfire and Scorpinoc weren't the most advanced toys to have transforming capabilities they were some of the first toys I had to have good articulation. Basically meaning that their arms and legs weren't stuck to their bodies. It was a step forward in possibility for sure.
both are my favorite. The difference is, for me, at least, was my brother had snapdragon and I had apeface.
This really makes me wonder how I'm gonna incorporate these guys into my own Transformers stories.
"Lizard vs Monkey"
Me: Godzilla vs Kong vibes.
Beast Wars vibes.
It would make sense if Shackwave scanned Optimus Primal and Grimlock's beast modes, an then created the Horrorcons to counter them.

Not to be confused with Shedwave

Thanks for the video it makes my G1 horrorcons more awesome thanks again.
These guys were always cool to me, and I've always wanted to see a similar Autobot duo made.
I do have a thought on that, but it might be too campy.
I really do appreciate the fact you put in the panel of Apeface eating a banana. I find the fact that that isn't synonymous with Apeface to be a crime.
Definitely 2 of my favorite characters from the Headmasters series. The designs and color schemes were perfect decepticons imo.
I do wish we got more horrorcons. Maybe a bat and a wolf.
My great grandma had toys of Snapdragon and Apeface. They were my favorite of the Transformers she had. After she passed away, I got to keep the two Horrorcon toys. These two are my favorite of the underrated Decepticons, so much so that I bought the War for Cybertron toys of them. This was a great episode, thanks for taking a look at them!
I love this dark duo and spent decades wanting them. Now having the g1 and siege versions (also third party ones) I feel quite happy.
I knew nothing of their story but Lizard v Monkey hit enough of a hype in Godzilla v Kong that I really wanted these. Plums they are cool toys!
The Terrorcons, Monterbots, and Terrorcons the Halloween Trilogy of Transformers
Happy Halloween
I knew you were gonna do the horrorcons this year
Oh and they probably added snapdragon as a mercenary in earth wars because they didn't know which autobot triple changer would be his opposite
@@Ecl1ps0_ that makes sense
I liked that in the cartoon Cyclonis didn’t want the “normal” Decipticons bonded, so he offered the beast as Headmasters, while the rest offered their weapons, thus making Target Masters.
The idea behind them reminds me of a joke line about The Shredder from a review of the original tmnt cartoon, when talking about the idea of creating Bebop and Rocksteady- "I think I'll do it just twice, and then never again. OH, THE POSSIBILITIES!"
The New Snapdragon is my favourite for sure! That Cybertronic jet/spacecraft alt mode is amazing
Christmas 1987 I got Snapdragon from my Uncle, always was one of my fav decepticons
I have always loved these guy's design.
Same here ☺️
People who dont care about their hygiene : Am I a -monster- horrorcon?
Been waiting a LONG time on this, apeface is my MAN and ive been bugging the comment sections on these videos for a LONG time
Fitting in a way. Using today to talk about two Metal Faced villains.
If you get it, you get it
This has to be the most horrific episode of "The Basics."
Great video. Love learning about characters I don’t know about.
Huh never heard of these guys but they sound awesome! I wonder if rampage from beastwars would count as a horrorcon
I like to think of Apeface and Snapdragon as the Kong and Godzilla of the Transformers.
That is who they were modelled in homage to.
@@pious83 makes sense.
I remember watching the rebirth and enjoyed seeing these 2, though Apeface having a russian accent might be frowned upon as a stereotype these days, it felt like it fit the character since it gave him a more imposing voice.
I'm glad the two are getting more love these days and seeing them get updated toys is a treat.
I wonder if the two have any rivals from the Monsterbots?
I had Apeface although I never really remembered the name even though he appears in the final episodes of the cartoon along with Snapdragon whose name I do remember from that despite not having that toy. One of my favourites old Apeface though. Didn't have too many Headmasters but he was one of them. Good times. Cool choice for the season.
I have watched this episode twice this month and wish there was more on them because ever since the rebirth snapdragon has been my nr 1 favoriete transformers character of all time
Apeface & Snapdragon are two of my favorite Decepticon Headmaster Horrorcons in the Original transformers cartoon.also all I can say is Chris. Thank you for posting this video about the Decepticon Headmaster Horrorcons 👌 up the 👍 work and stay safe and stay healthy. Until next time till all are one.☺☺☺☺☺☺☺👏☺😀😊😉
I continue to always look forward to your newest episodes of Transformers: the Basics as well as rewatching your prior episodes.
Please keep up the wonderful work of expanding knowledge of Transformer Lore & History.
I like the name like the Terrorcons and monsterbots the name is horror just amazing and also where you say horrorcons in start rain
I have both WOF Apeface and Snapdragon. Good to see them in the spotlight.
I do wish Snapdragon and Apeface would make more appearances in TF shows and comics. The idea of lazy and disgusting Decepticon slobs is pretty humorous, like the original versions of the TF Animated Constructicons.
Props to Apeface for trying to take on Megatron USING TELEKINESIS.
Ah yes, Apeface. Slayride faces his next challenger...
These were the biggest and best transformers my brother and I had as kids. We got them for Christmas and I got Apeface, since then he has been the core of my Transformers focus. As I kept rediscovering the show I would update my head stories.
Now I have this elaborate idea that they were actually Micromasters who gave up their own vehicle forms to become Headmaster. They use trnastectors and the Horrorcons were actually made to be a countermeasure to the Dinobots. But later they use the recovered Nemesis to fly the galaxy and get energon from the other plants we saw in season 2. They also use that extended time away to build their own base in secret using schematic they stole from Grapple and Hoist. Because of my brother and the stories we made together I always see these two as something of brothers, rare decepticons that won't betray each other.
We also imagined that each was also an honorary member of a combiner team. Apeface with the Predacons and Snapdragon with the Terrorcons. More just so we could pretend to be Predaking and Abominus taking orders from our guys.
I always love to revisit the g1 series The Dweller in the Depths as a child, I was very scared by the concept of characters locked up, very frightened by Trans-Organic and the Dweller himself and evo the transformation of robots into vampires
I'd love to get toys of those, even if they don't transform. That was as close to horror as the show got I think.
@@originaluddite They'd all go perfectly with my Inhumanoids figures.
2 of my fav Cons in general :) well done Chris
These two bots were great had both as a kid and only found apeface in the seige lineup
I’m 16 minutes late but this is the earliest I’ve been
I always thought these two were underrated as a kid! I mean a gorilla and dragon triple changer, that is fucking awesome!!!
I would love to see these guys toys repainted to be newer versions of BW Optimus Primal and Megatron, I think that would be so cool
I was didn't care for the horrorcons as much, after getting their toys and learning how good they are... I am all in with them!!!
Not only does one remind you of King Kong and the other of Godzilla, but one also looks more like Optimus Prime and the other like Megatron, respectively, and by extension, Primal and BW Megatron.
Great vid man, it was nice to hear these guys personalities
Can you do basics on trailbreaker
Honestly. I'm surprised Apeface hasn't gotten more time in the sun than Snapdragon. Given his gorilla beast mode helped him stand out more. While Snapdragon's Godzilla looking mode to me would've seemingly left him in the ever-titanic shadow of fellow Decepticon Trypticon.
I’ve been waiting for this! Thank you!
Funny thing is that this was 3 hours ago and I was looking for the basics on horrorcons a few days ago😳😂
Congratulations on 160K 🥳🥳🥳
The fact i come across this on a...somewhat friday night 13 days away is spooky
For favorites: it’s a tie for robot modes, Snapdragon for jet mode, and Apeface for Beast mode.
The horrorcons they are personal favorites of mine hopefully they get into the spotlight again someday
I actually have the newer Snapdragon toy and hated fining out it was a Headmaster
as you see at 3:08 the reason Snapdragon nearly killed Daniel Witwicky is because Daniel Witwicky prevented Snapdragon from biting off Arcee's hands by as seen at 3:12 by jumping on Snapdragon's head.
I would of loved more autobot animal version's especially head master's, we kinda just got the usual jets, cars or choppers where as the cons got cool ape face, snap dragon and the other three head master cons.
I have gotten apeface from Amazon today to add to my transformers collection.
Since this video came out, I've seen The Headmasters. And it's kinda surprising just how little they did in the anime. They spent most of their time just being background crowd fillers or tackling the Monsterbots. I do recall one significant battle on Master's moon (I think) where they fought the Autobot Targetmasters.
The Horrorcons are top tier Decepticon goons.
Love the color scheme! Great Stuff!
Witch one is my favorite? YES
Hasbro: what should we name this HORROCON? It has to be e something monstrous.
the writer: let's name it after flowers.
Well, according to the in the language of flowers, snapdragons are said to represent deception, so it’s a fitting name, really!
@@clogs4956 in that case; well played hasbro.
I remember showing the toy to my grandma and she told me that it was the name of a flower.
3:28 *"HUH, SAYS YOU!!!"*
Before this video I knew literally nothing about the two, but was very tempted to pick up their WFC figures when I saw them at a discount shop, but ended up not getting them.
I like their bief appearances in Headmasters. Those lovable troublesome scamps.
Wish these characters expanded into Transformers Animated in the 2000s.
A TFA guide had snapdragon
Edit: oops there was a TFA storybook that had what appears to be snapdragon (5:19) that was probably killed by cosmic rust
