When Tidal Wave was introduced in Armada I thought this: "Well, now the Autobots know what the Decepticons in other continuties feel when they see Omega Supreme"
I wonder if series will begin playing them off as rivals so we don't have incredibly lopsided battles like the Omega Supreme boss fight in War for Cybertron.
What's cool about Tidal Wave's boss fight in the video game is that he can walk on the same landmasses as the player could, rather than most games with a titanic boss having you restrained to orbiting platforms. This really left me in awe at the sheer size of this lad. Not to mention, Tidal Wave being a part of the world at first before actually fighting him. There's even a room with a window through which you can see his head. Which is still many times your size.
I remember getting stuck on that level when I was younger and having no idea what to do because it felt like trying to figure out how to fight Godzilla
I petitioned for him to be Omega Supreme's Decepticons counterpart in the Transformers Earth Wars game. It just made so much sense. We got Overlord instead because of his recent appearance (at the time) in the anime (Prime Trilogy I believe).
Always found it really strange that Tidal Wave and Broadside weren't featured in the World of Warships tie-in. We got Optimus, Bumblebee, Megatron, & Frenzy sitting on top of ships instead of actually having some naval bots. Baffles the mind. Seaspray and Thunderblast would've made some fun additions as well.
@@SirBroccolingtonIII Maybe not by themselves, but on top of having Optimus, Megatron, and the others they could of also included the navel bots as well.

@@Double_D__ To be fair, the first third of Armada was pretty poorly done, even though it improved over time. Whereas Cybertron was consistent in quality.
This seriously needs the Titan class treatment like are you kidding me, as a kid I always wanted this figure to be as big as metroplex or scorponok, Hasbro please make my childhood dream come true 🥺
To be fair, it took like 30 years for the G1 titans to come around to their full glory. I'm willing to bet in the next ten years Hasbro will target the armada/rid generations.
I've got that original Armada figure. The 3 components are fun by themselves, but combining to form the big bot is where the character shines. What it lacks in articulation it makes up for in presence. Although not scaled nearly as large as in the show he's still head and shoulders above most toys from that era. Combining him with Megatron makes for a devastating brick of destruction.
And if you could get hold of several, his modularity allows you to combine him into some pretty awesome bases (I got the Armada and Energon versions, which made a decent base with just the two, I kinda wished I'd picked up a couple of extra Energon ones when they were cheap)...
I will say, I think the Megatron combination is easily the weak spot of Tidal Wave's toy. It's kinda blatant that Megatron's design wasn't meant to carry an upgrade, since it basically ends up being chunks of Tidal Wave bolted onto Megatron's arms and back (and don't even try getting Megatron to lift his arms when there's an entire aircraft carrier hanging off them).
Tidal Wave is still one of my favorite transformers ever. His huge size, unique splitting and combining modes, and his appearance in the cartoon and game boss battle make him so damn memorable. As a kid I had the transformers universe CD ROM disc (which had way more armada content). I just remember playing the awful games and watching the armada episode Tidal Wave first appeared in with the ABISMAL video and sound quality, loved every second of it. Still hoping that hasbro or some third party will make a Tidal Wave figure that turns into a whale.
I played that game to death for how unique it was at the time with the ragdoll physics and experimenting with the 40(or more just the weapon ones) minicons. With the Tidal Wave boss fight I will say it was cheap since you had to aim at the head which half the time was out of range of your projectiles with him mortar firing you at close range instead of at a distance when he was in ship form. Though I did learn through the cheat codes that if you get to the other islands and move to the positions he would punch you into the ground. So you could reenact Megatrons death from Metroplex in that game with the roles reversed.
I have a theory that Tidal Wave had a normal sized transformer brain for both his forms, but because he was so big most of the processing power went to his systems, leaving him with limited intelligence and speaking skill. When he was rebuilt as mirage, his brain was doing less work to manage the body so he had more processing power to develop a personality. Also because of this upgrade he may have developed his crush on megatron due to his feelings of loyalty suddenly getting a boost which caused it to evolve into love

Honestly, given how great of a character Tidal Wave is in where he stands out he feels like a missed opportunity in Armada (most notably the cartoon). The PS2 game really got his character spot on in being a boss that it would ages to take down and really made the character something of a huge threat, a gargantuan and looming behemoth that because he turned into something so huge that a majority of the level is mostly spent exploring the inside of shows you are inside a literal giant almost on the same level of as Metroplex of Trypticon. The cartoon really failed to do more with his character especially by Energon, but the comics at least helped make him more interesting. Even in Sins of the Wreckers, making his alt mode a whale is an example that because he is so huge he turns into something that matches his size and doesn't shrink down and that's really the best way to go. @@jonryder7269 exactly, heck I can Imagine Tidal Wave as a sort of siege tactics user where he breaks a hole into enemy defenses and releases a fairly large force of transformers inside while he destroys the rest of the outside defenses to let the larger army inside or naval transport and defense for an underwater base where the seekers and other aircraft decepticons can use him to both launch and recharge themselves, Tidal Wave is one of the most under utilized but incredible potential transformers out there and I'd argue could be the most useful out of any large decepticon the decepticons ever had being able to basically travel on any terrain and likely a fair bit faster than a giant dinosaur and scorpion which are sort of land locked with low maneuverability any other type of area like the air or underwater
@@Xeno-The-Wanderer Exactly, him and Lugnut should be staples of the decepticons cast. And yes he would work perfectly as a siege engine/transport. I would have him be aquatic and avian support. Idk hes just cool, tho i love his tv grey and purple more than his toy green and such lol.
Chris was right about the toy. Recently, we finally got a Titan sized tidal wave figure in the legacy evolution line. But it was at a cost. Mainly having to do with the legs. It’s sorta of a must not have toy.

I scored a, mostly, complete Tidal Wave at a convention. He was missing the missile launchers. I've found his landing ship component fits Legends class vehicles nicely while the aircraft carrier can accommodate some aircraft vehicles very nicely.
I love how rare the nautical Transformers are. Broadside, Seaspray, the Seacons, Tidal Wave, to name just a few, but you can't keep them down 20,000 leagues under the sea for long!

@@residentrump3271 I do have my problems with the game, like how once you get the wingpack minicon, there's no reason to not take it off (on top of it being orange, which grants the most amount of health when paired up with another orange minicon). IMO, it should have been a permanent upgrade along with the high jump.
They should make a combiner of tidalwave, if they go titan class with him that is, make each component a leaderclass figure in their own right then have them combine together to form tidalwave's robot mode
@@dredgenwar2375 I'm thinking takara could figure out a way to make them combine into the battleship mode, cause let's be honest hasbro would never give us something like that these days, and a combined robot mode
You know when you stop and think about it Tidal-Wave is a perfect Antithesis for Omega-Supreme, not just in faction clutch bots but also what they represent to their factions too. Omega-Supreme is usually a star ship, a vessel that represents scientific achievement and exploration. Where as Tidal-Wave transforms into a battleship (ignoring the sea advantage he has) a vessel that represents dominance and conquest. Yet those are the only real differences because looking past those they're really one in the same and shows how war really does change everything and nothing simultaneously.
I loved playing that PS2 Transformers game, the animated cut-scene for Tidewave was pretty cool and until then, I have never fought something THAT big in a video game! Good times even if a little scary! 😅

Okay okay but seriously Tidal Wave is great I attribute his cult favorite status largely (pun not intended but it’s there all the same) to his boss fight in the PS2 game. Given his colossal size and ship-mode I’ve allows thought it’d be a neat idea for him to be depicted as the Decepticon counterpart to Omega Supreme. But I really loved how he showed up with a whale-mode in Sins of the Wreckers I was like "Ahh that makes so much sense that’s fantastic Nick Roche!" I also have had this headcanon for a while that given Mirage’s sleeked down look and had the hots for Megatron/Galvatron that when the universe rebooted into Cybertron Mirage let’s say transitioned into becoming Thunderblast.
well... based on backstory I don't think that's possible, sure it's headcanon but I still feel like poking some holes that may not be considered(also the universe didn't get rebooted, today takara and hasbro have cybertron as a sequel in the same universe as energon), Starscream and Galvatron plunged inside and came out corrupted and with Unicron like powers though most went to megatron starscream still got the ability to open dimension gates like megatron (I want to say they opened the gate to save thundercracker in the first episode) mirage is nowhere to be seen after he plunged into the sun. Thunderblast we see is a Lorelei or well inspired the legend of one and ended up imprisoned hundreds of years ago by Crosswise, so while they're both boats that have the intense hots for megatron/gavatron, they aren't the same
@@Xeno-The-Wanderer Yes but the whole universe got reboot and reshaped and shifted around E.G. like how Sideways is in Cybertron than in Armada. And while it is perhaps unlikely that Mirage is literally turned into Thunderblast I still feel confident in saying she is an extension or evolution of Tidal Wave/Mirage.
I feel that the recent Ark figure could fairly easily be retooled into Tidal Wave. Somewhat similar form to the combined ship mode, and some design cues shared in robot mode as well. Seeing what they did with Metroplex -> Fort Max, it seems inevitable.
Topspin, Seaspray, Broadside, Scourge, Splashdown, are the few that I can think of off the top of my head. When you think about it, with the exception of a hovercraft, nautical-based modes are pretty limited when it comes to versatility.
Just under a year ago, I bought a PS2 with the intention to get the Armada game for it. When I got to the Tidal Wave level, I knew what was coming... I mean it was nearly 15 years ago that the game came out and I have always been a fan of Transformers, so avoiding that spoiler was very difficult. That said... when that cutscene came, with him transforming... I was still kinda shook. I had seen the cutscene on UA-cam before, but getting there yourself in the game... It still hits you. It's a shame that game is often overlooked when people make lists.
when I first saw that he was going to get a titan class figure I thought "oh dear, I have Megatron but how will he combine?" but when I saw that he comes with a mini version of himself I then thought "oh that's neat"
What I want to see the most, is to see a Rivalry between Tidal Wave and Omega Supreme. Two giant transformers (not quite titans though) who split apart into a multitude of altmodes, and are weapons of mass destruction.
Absolutely! Granted, I still consider the both of them titan-class characters, with at least Omega having the power to fight titans like Trypticon, but they aren't really "Titans". That odd fact between them would make for a badass rivalry.

Chris that day has come, Hasbro heard and delivered in Tidal Wave Animation cartoon colors
Chris was right about the toy.
Recently, we finally got a Titan sized tidal wave figure in the legacy evolution line.
But it was at a cost.
Mainly having to do with the legs. It’s sorta of a must not have toy.
You can fix the legs fairly easily
8:31 he's here!!!
Now we just need the American toy colors so we can recreate that boss fight.
yo!!! i grew up with Armada as a kid i enjoyed Tidal Wave for how tall he was and ever since i have kept the name with me ever since!
Was just gifted my 1st Energon Tidal Wave on the 18th for my B-Day...just love it & your video was perfectly timed! Thank you! :D
That part at the end about Tidal Wave getting a new Titan-class toy someday aged like the finest of wine!
I know everyone wants a titan class toy but I'd love a smaller one that could combine with Megatron. Armada was one of the few times Megatron had a combination to match Optimus'
I really hope we get a new Tidal Wave figure in the upcoming Transformers: Legacy Toy line 💚🖤💜
My love for tidal wave has reawaken ❤️🔥
I love Tidal Wave a lot he definitely does not get enough play, I wish I had his Armada or Energon toy, I've even bought the Sea Minicon Team so when the time comes I'll have a little fleet ready for him.
finding one with his Minicon ramjet is difficult for a good price, good luck
@@Xeno-The-Wanderer This is the good luck comment, I managed to snag an Energon Tidal Wave with Ramjet relatively cheap on eBay a few days after this and he arrived today, its great timing I love him
I actually managed to get an Armada Tidal Wave figure and I'm so happy with him in my collection.
Oh man I loved this figure. Namely because I liked military toys at the time too and I was more than happy to play with the individual parts too
That ending. I think I know what titan Chris is hoping for. Me too.
Thank you for still making these videos. It’s always great to start my Saturday mornings with some transformers history.
I scored a, mostly, complete Tidal Wave at a convention. He was missing the missile launchers. I've found his landing ship component fits Legends class vehicles nicely while the aircraft carrier can accommodate some aircraft vehicles very nicely.
I only saw him in the Sins of the Wreckers, but he was memorable.
I first encountered him in Armada. I love how he combines with Megatron countering Optimus and jetfire combo
I love how rare the nautical Transformers are. Broadside, Seaspray, the Seacons, Tidal Wave, to name just a few, but you can't keep them down 20,000 leagues under the sea for long!
I only know of Tidal Waves Armada appearances. I absolutely love his stage and boss fight. Best part of the video game.
I really hope they make a titan class tidal-wave toy
So glad he is getting a new toy
It's kinda fitting that this came after the Ark vid if anyone has seen Grimlockimus' custom on Twitter.
That boss fight goes down as one of my favorites ever. Absolutely lost my mind when I finally beat it. I sincerely hope the armada game gets some sort of re-release/remaster
If you haven't: pick up that PS2 game. It's worth it even for just that level. And that boss fight was one of the most memorable I've been through. Absolutely amazing.
Be warned though, the game is hard as balls.
@@harlannguyen4048 I've had that game since it released and *STILL* haven't beaten it! It is super fun though :)
@@residentrump3271 I do have my problems with the game, like how once you get the wingpack minicon, there's no reason to not take it off (on top of it being orange, which grants the most amount of health when paired up with another orange minicon). IMO, it should have been a permanent upgrade along with the high jump.
One of my favourites from this trilogy! Glad to see he got 'the basics' treatment.
They should make a combiner of tidalwave, if they go titan class with him that is, make each component a leaderclass figure in their own right then have them combine together to form tidalwave's robot mode
That would be a really clever allusion to his old combining alt-modes, so I can't say I wouldn't love that.
@@dredgenwar2375 I'm thinking takara could figure out a way to make them combine into the battleship mode, cause let's be honest hasbro would never give us something like that these days, and a combined robot mode
Tidal Wave, one of my favorite decepticons who didn't start in G1
I find Tidal Wave so awesome. I wish he was in more media, and I wish I played the PS game.
Thank you so much for expanding my knowledge of this fun character!
This dude was pretty sweet, I remember playing the game and being like "I think this ship can transform." sure enough he did. Crazy boss fight and great character. Just a great level overall.
Damn imagine if tidle wave had the brain power of shockwave and the brutality of impacter he'd be nearly unstoppable
I love this series for consistantly introducing me to cool new characters I've never heard of before
with the Ark getting a robot mode I would love to see this guy back again I still have one the toys but I think its the Japanese release of the engeron version as it has the neon clear plastic on it
Tidal Wave's basics are soo wavy!
Well! Here we are, Titan Class Tidal Wave up for Pre-Order, crazy!
No one:
Not even anyone:
Tidal Wave: *T I D A L W A V E*
As a 2000s kid who grew up with the Unicron Trilogy, he was always the most sought after toy, Mirage was also nearly impossible to find.

But I really loved how he showed up with a whale-mode in Sins of the Wreckers I was like "Ahh that makes so much sense that’s fantastic Nick Roche!"
I also have had this headcanon for a while that given Mirage’s sleeked down look and had the hots for Megatron/Galvatron that when the universe rebooted into Cybertron Mirage let’s say transitioned into becoming Thunderblast.
well... based on backstory I don't think that's possible, sure it's headcanon but I still feel like poking some holes that may not be considered(also the universe didn't get rebooted, today takara and hasbro have cybertron as a sequel in the same universe as energon), Starscream and Galvatron plunged inside and came out corrupted and with Unicron like powers though most went to megatron starscream still got the ability to open dimension gates like megatron (I want to say they opened the gate to save thundercracker in the first episode) mirage is nowhere to be seen after he plunged into the sun. Thunderblast we see is a Lorelei or well inspired the legend of one and ended up imprisoned hundreds of years ago by Crosswise, so while they're both boats that have the intense hots for megatron/gavatron, they aren't the same
@@Xeno-The-Wanderer
Yes but the whole universe got reboot and reshaped and shifted around E.G. like how Sideways is in Cybertron than in Armada.
The idea of a Titan-Class Tidal Wave figure never occurred to me, but now I really want it.
He easily had the best toy in the Armada toy line, change my mind.
Topspin, Seaspray, Broadside, Scourge, Splashdown, are the few that I can think of off the top of my head. When you think about it, with the exception of a hovercraft, nautical-based modes are pretty limited when it comes to versatility.
Wow! Never heard of him. So, as usual highly informative! Keep up the great work sir!
very nice you mention that PS2 game, it was the greatest scene in the whole game
Two years later, and our prayers have been answered transformers legacy, United Titan class tidal wave
Tidal Wave is now offically a Titan class in the Transformers Legacy United toyline
'One for The Unicron Trilogy kids this week' Hey! That's me! 😊
This giant is the only 'Con from the Unicron Trilogy that I love!
I love being able to look over at my shelf and say hey I have this guy still ah good times
And now in 2023 we got the reveal of the legacy United titan class tidal wave with cartoon accurate colors! He is massive and imposing as he should be
Wow. Hope we get more of him someday.
when I first saw that he was going to get a titan class figure I thought "oh dear, I have Megatron but how will he combine?" but when I saw that he comes with a mini version of himself I then thought "oh that's neat"
Chris always makes my day! 🙌🙌
Update: Titan class Legacy Armada Tidal Wave confirmed.
And now his Titan Class toy is on the way ship to my home😆
8:27 Grimlockimus has got you covered.
Tidal Wave’s theme in the 2004 was epic. Heck his entire cutscene was awesome!
Also I agree with a Titan TW. Especially after that custom Ark recolor went up on twitter.
If legacy needs another titan, or commander class, we all know who’d be the perfect fit!
