@@ThatxGuyxUxKnow Bought my KSG a week ago, am loving it! I do plan on getting the extended selector switch so you can change tubes by flicking your wrist. Will make it much simpler.
Probably one of the best comparison videos - not just for guns but of anything - that I've seen. Got me from the start with the time stamps and again at the end with the whole "don't discount the 500 or 870" reality check. Honest reviews not driven by manufacturer pressure. Just awesome.
Great vid quality. Calm, non-obnoxious levels, no dopey funny shinnanigans, straight and to the point, nice slo-mo action, music fits, nice fade ins and outs. 10/10. Great Job !

This is a very professional and candid video presentation. I hope you continue to be honest in the future, and not give in to corporate pressures. Thanks It is a breath of fresh air in the world of product reviews
Glad you enjoyed. Yeah it is rough fighting against the wants and needs of companies...everyone wants positive info spoke about their firearms, but honesty in my findings is #1, and it's very rarely 100% perfection on any of the firearms I review...but doesn't make any one gun horrible...but there are times a gun in HORRIBLE, and when that occurs, I'll tell you! Without the trust of my viewers...whats the point of doing reviews.
So what do you think of the ksg. Me personally I am kinda liking it. In a fantasy tactical sense lol the selector switch makes for a quick reload. 7 then a quicker 7 than reloading a new 30 rd mag. With the dp12 once you run dry you either load both tubes or shoot one skip one. just a novice shooters 2 cents
My viewers time is valuable and I respect it. Sometime people just want to see the details and others want to see just shooting aspects...Want to give them the option. Welcome to GY6vids
I watched your previous video on the DP-12 and how the cycling was a problem. I am glad that Standard Manufacturing has since corrected the problem. I own a DP-12 and have put many rounds through mine. I have never experienced the sticking of shells, and the action works flawlessly regardless of the angle I am holding the weapon. Thank you for bringing this issue to the attention of Standard which prompted them to fix this problem. I enjoy your videos.
@@pomztoybox6877 me too and I’m sorry but if someone is clearing a building with there weapon pointed perpendicular to the floor tha that is a tactical issue not a mechanical one
I have a KSG and use Aguila minishells, both slug and buck shot. You can put a max of 11 in each tube and they work flawlessly. I have shot well over 100 shells in one range visit, have had no miss feeds, no empty shell casings hit my wrist although my daughter did and the recoil is very much reduced by using a smaller shell.
Thank you for this great review. I am 100% certain which shotgun I'm going with (first). I love shotguns and have had my heart set on the KSG 25 since I came across it recently at a local gun shop. Then I saw the DP-12 which is most certainly boner-inspiring for pretty much any shotgun lover. After watching this entire review, I'm quite certain the overall better choice is the KSG, so I'll be going to pick mine up shortly. That said, I'm pretty sure I will be adding the DP-12 to my shotgun collection eventually as well.
Such a well shot and edited video, amazing amount of work, effort, and dedication! The quality really shows, and what you're doing for the firearms community is very appreciated. Thank you for the outstanding material! Liked and subscribed.
Hey GY6 I appreciate all the time you took editing and including the time markers. Not enough people say thanks so thanks man, keep making awesome videos
Thank you for saying thank you...its a ton of work and I want to make sure to NOT waste you time(Hence the Time Markers). Some viewers have time to watch it all, and others just want to get to the point. Thanks for the support!
HEY!!! Got am idea...gonna run the DP-12 again in a video, and we will see its fast double tap in action(Cant tell you what, ruin the surprise LOL)...Granted the double tap with 12 gauge isn't the most accurate but it can be VERY ENTERTAINING in certain situations! The speed of the DP-12 and its crisp trigger, will make for some fun! LIKE this comment if you're down for some more DP-12 stuff....
Yes, please! The DP-12 should excel at a double tap drill. The fast double tap, ammo capacity and pump reliability is why I'm purchasing a DP-12 for home defense.
pretty sure during your speed test that was operator error you were most definitely short stroking the action on both shotguns. alot of people give the ksg a bad reviews because they try to run it as fast as they can an in there rush tend to also short stroke the action. I have do it myself while speed firing a pump shotgun. good vid though
No complaints about my KSG,,protects me and my family just fine,, and its a great gopher remover and camping protection. God bless, great video thanks..
I don't want a shotgun that's made out of beach plastic and plus shotguns are useless against home defense if I want something for home-defense I'll take an AR-15
@@HoeLeeSheet That would be effective but not cool when the bullets blow through your (neighbors) walls and destroy things in the next room. #overpenetration
@@HoeLeeSheet Not all polymers/plastics are the same, as should be obvious, despite that I doubt that the polymer that Keltec uses isn't good enough to last
I think Standard Manufacturing must have made minor changes since this video. I've had zero (0) misfeeds or misfires since purchasing mine in Fall 2021 -- it's been 100% perfect. I'm glad they got those issues worked out :)
PERFECT vid, unbiased, very thoroughly in explaining and not just saying like if the audience should know already-experts and BEGINNERS watch. New with this and understood everything thanks for explaining and not just “oh look what I have this is cool.” These types of vids are supposed to be educational, not show and tell, other channels can’t comprehend that. I was literally deciding between these two and you’ve gave great camera angle, multiple different stress tests scenarios, time markers (to avoid wasting time), and things as a newcomer I wouldn’t have considered into perspective I’ve realized which best suits me specifically, thanks.
KSG is my to go shotgun for home defense, and its pink :3 For the selector switch i installed a longer one and use my wrist to flick it over to switch tubes.
@@HoeLeeSheet At the ranges you'd expect indoors, a shotgun is a rifle for all intents and purposes; the spread will be fist-sized if you shoot across the room. There's that and the fact that not everyone has access to an AR-15 for home defence. You could live in Canada or, even worse, California.
@@HoeLeeSheet Yes you are correct but an Ar15 round will penetrate drywalls like swiz cheese!!!, you have to think about what's on the other side of multiple walls!!!. The best home defense system is to use a good quality handgun or what I do is I have two weapons systems ready to go close to me for just an intruder or all-out "zombie apocalypse". Fight like you train and this is what 20+ years of military service has burnt into my muscle memory, I never went to combat without my P226 and my M4!!!. "Always outnumbered, Never Outmanned"
@@HoeLeeSheet An AR for close quarters home defense? Come on man that's ridiculous. Pistol first, shotgun 2nd and then my AR pistol. Hopefully never have to find out which works best. 90% of gun owners wouldn't think a shotgun is pathetic.
@@HoeLeeSheet Do you even own a shotgun? Almost everyone I know who has one would go for it for home defense especially over an AR. Using an AR doesn't guarantee that you wont hit your family in a hostage situation. Chances are, you're going to wind up shooting a member of your own family.
If the KSG had a feature that fed both tubes, without having to hit the switch to feed from the other tube, it would be a great home defense pump shotgun. I'm not suggesting they change the ability to select just one tube. But, you shouldn't have to hit a switch after one tube is empty. This causes you to break your grip and aim. These are essentially home defense shotguns. In that situation, it's undesirable to break your grip in order to engage the 2nd tube.
GY6vids thank you for the video I'm getting the KSG Friday 2-24-17 can you do a vid for KSG vs Utas vs dp12 OR. something vs the Utas ...PS you could host a gun safety class here in FL ur awesome
05crrt ..i hope you didn't buy the KSG...The DP-12 Is far better. There are a lot of DP-12 videos on UA-cam and this is the ONLY one where this guy was having problems with it..i own one and I have had no problems at all...better than burning your wrist off from the KSG.
USA- USA yes I bought one , have to say I've very happy with it. I had a few rounds jam. that was due to me NOT the firearm .. operator error but since then no problems
Nah bro it is 100% worth it ... the first gen dp12s might have had quirks but I've never had the issues this guy had ... its the best shotgun money can buy IMO .... and yes I even say it's better than the m4.
Great video but need to watch Hickock 45, he explains the problems, it's not the gun, it's the aluminum shell casing, they stick. Best to use brass, smooth loading. Try it out, you'll see.
Listen to this man. I could not figure out why my 12ga pump and my Semi-Auto 12ga would jam suddenly. I stopped using aluminum Shells and it made a drastic difference! ALOT of people have trouble with the red Winchester as well, so yeah kinda like double trouble...
You were very informative and I thank you. I was on the fence between the two guns. I'm going with the ksg on the price factor, accuracy, and ease of stripping down.
lmao That ending was a lot like a Top Gear verdict: "So between the KSG and the DP-12, I recommend the Remington 870." I know that's not what you were getting at, but it just made me think of that. And really though, it is a very good point. I mean, they're 12 gauge shotguns for god's sake; quite possibly the simplest principle of all firearms. Put shell in chamber. Pull trigger. Gun goes boom. Shot goes somewhere in front of you. These two guns, unless you're going to need that higher capacity, its really just a matter of how much you're willing to pay complicate a simple prospect. I mean I do like both guns and they'd be a blast to own, but for my money, I'd probably just grab myself an 870 as well.
lucernhammer Not all newer 870 models have problems. However I would say for the $, no one should have any issues, but you can thank The Freedom Group that bought out Remington for that. For sure, you can't go wrong with a mossberg.
Just wanted to say excellent video! Very professional and well put together. So real quick I'm overseas so have way to much time on my hands. I have watched probably 50 reviews between the KSG and the DP-12. I like both but will choose the DP-12 more than likely. I dunno if it is just the DP-12 you have but this is the only video with the issues of misfeeds and soft primer strikes. Maybe user error short shucking because your going back and forth and the KSG is smaller. You obviously have a ton of experience with shotguns but just noticed none of the other videos have this issue and the DP-12 looks pretty flawless besides this video.
I put the shell deflector from Mcarbo on my KSG Gen 2….really protects the wrist. Lots of fun upgrades for the gun….all making it look more bad ass. Thank you for a great video. Not only informative but your on camera demeanor is terrific.
Thanks for the great review. Totally top notch quality and VERY fair to both platforms. Many pros and cons to be to be sure. Because price was certainly a big factor (and quite frankly, they both seemed about on par) I went with a KSG. I still love the DP12 and would love to own one. After shooting the KSG, I can thankfully say that the rounds clear my wrists and I have never been bitten by a single round. I wonder if this is a change in Gen 3 or if my wrists are just a little smaller than yours (or we hold the platform differently; I think my grip is in a different spot). Likely the latter. I am 6' 192lbs btw, so not a small man, so for all those reading, don't automatically assume the rounds will hurt your wrist like they did his. If they DID I was willing to take that chance, as if I need to pull her out in home defense, I couldn't give two shits less about a bruise lol.
I have a few bullpup shotguns and the KSG is one of my favorites. Love the vids. Yours and Hickok's are definitely the best. Thank you for the quality content.
For the ksg you can put the selector switch in the middle so you don’t have to switch it after the first 7 shots. It automatically switches from barrel to barrel.
KSG owner here. That is false. It cannot cycle and you can't even load it if the mag tube selector switch is in the middle. If anything, it functions as a second safety.
@@trapez6271Don't listen to him he's full of it. If you put the selector switch in the middle if prevents both tubes from loading. I own a KSG and I have tried it myself in the past
Just from my own experience, the KSG absolutely hates those short neck aluminum shells and gets sticky like that with them as well. Most notably the Remmington target load shells, bound up like crazy. No problems with high necked shells, or short neck brass ones. Kel Tek themselves told me they don't intend them to use the short neck ones, just a thing with the KSG extractor. Had the thing for about 5 years now and still love it, just gotta experiment around with ammo a bit.
This video made me make up my mind between the two, went with the KSG. Literally no issues at all since i bought it, and it’s an absolute blast to fire all 15 rounds in rapid succession.
I have a ksg 1st gen. I took it out of the box an check the bore to make sure it was clear then fired two rounds thur it an then put it in the safe for 2 years. I finally took it out an wanted to pattern it. Fired five rounds 2 3/4 Oo buck. Had some light primer strikes an failure to fire. Then shot a round of trap with the 2 3/4 target loads an had fun but again lots of lite primer strikes an failure to fire. Field stripped an noticed a lot of sticky cosmeline type crap on the bolt an bolt carrier. Cleaned all off with WD40 went back to the range an fired six 2 3/4 target loads an three 3 inch number 2 shot...no malfunctions. I'm guessing a lot of folks must have experienced this same problem. I did notice the 3 inch shells chambered easier than the 2 3/4's probably cause that's what the keltec is clambered for...my suggestion is make sure you completely clean any cosmeline off the internal parts an lubricate before shooting.
When I 1st got my dp12 I had to send it back to the factory for repair because it was shooting both rounds at the same time .... so there is a way. Now it's functioning as advertised
It would be nice if it had that option to switch though... Can you imagine shooting two 3" slugs at the same time? Kinda like a midget on redbull trying to punch you in the side lol
Finally!! an informative review that offers both honest pros and cons. Unlike a lot of the "I don't like it so you shouldn't like it either" reviews... I really appreciate you just giving the facts and leaving the choice up to the viewer. I feel like the DP-12 is definitely a more robust gun but the KSG is more compact and I like that you can select between two different types of rounds if you want. Thanks for the review.
Great review. Never fired the DP12, I own a KSG. Love it. I like being able to put buck in one mag and slug in the other. The weight is also a big factor between the two. Ensuring that I fully pumped it each time was the hardest thing to train. No short stroking. It will not feed if you do. When you are looking at 1400+ or 800+ and need a red dot or any other additions, the KSG is the best way to go. Plus the extra 600 gets you a lot of buck and slugs ;)
When shooting the dp12 you can not hold the trigger down while racking the slide. By doing so it will not allow the trigger to reset which in turn causes a weak hammer fall or it will not fall at all.
Hey man, you have some of the greatest reviews I've seen on UA-cam, great job! It's fun and it's complete on information. Ps: I'm Brazilian and unfortunately we aren't allowed to have guns, but fortunately I've been learning a lot about them with you guys, thanks a lot!
Watched both your first review of the DP-12 and now this one (came across this one accidentally) . Both well done and I love the honest opinions given based on your observations. As others have said it is refreshing and well done.
I had some light primer strike on my DP-12 right out of the box shooting today... That was one of the problems. The other problem is that one round would fire but the other one won't let me pull the trigger. I was shooting the Fiocchi ammo... After I went home, disassemble the shotgun, clean it, oil it ,and switch to Estate Super Sport, the problem went away. It's the weirdest thing ever!!!!
Thank you sooo much! You don't know how much these videos means to me since it's extremely details with precise pros and cons list breakdown bravo!!! First time gun owner here and much appreciated!! 👍👍🙏💯
A Google search brought me here four years after the video was made. With a pandemic going on, rioting, and violence going sky high; anticipate this video getting a lot of new views between now and November. A KSG sold on an online auction today for over $1600. Kel-Tec is out of stock and distributors have NO idea if / when they will be manufacturing / shipping more KSG's. (You can get a tricked out DP-12 for $1700+; they have plenty in stock.) I am going with the KSG. This was a GREAT video. Awesome video angles and slow mo, great graphics, editing well done. You took two things I needed a direct comparison of and gave me a fair evaluation while sitting on my ass. I thank you and my lazy ass thanks you. (As odd as this will sound, I do not own a single short sleeved shirt or wife beater. The wrist burn shouldn't be an issue for me. Hopefully I don't set a shirt on fire.)
I own and run a ksg. With practice, you can get the hang of reaching back with the thumb on your fire hand. It is a bit uncomfortable, but it's a game changer.
Excellent, thorough comparison. I've watched a few videos on these guns. This video was the one to help me decide to purchase the KSG. (I already have a few Mossbergs!) The quality of your presentation is better than the others I viewed.
Hey I watched this video like yesterday or 2 days ago I just wanted to say you said the details very good And that you added time stamps in the description is just amazing Great video man, keep up!
Thanks for making this video I've been looking for a comparison video for years & yours is the only one I've found that focuses on just the two guns I've searched for
@@GY6vids Very nice!!! The length of the hallway in my house is about 50', so I don't really care about rounds on target at 450'... (that's why I have a .308) Due to the mis-fires in this video, though, I would not choose the DP-12, regardless of Hickok45's review ;)
Watching the slow-mo these guns are flexing quite a bit - I wonder if that is contributing to the issues that crop up when you are rapid firing. Either way - great review. I'm leaning towards the KSG due to the centered barrel and consistent target acquisition.
+Slash Poison deflector available or don't hold your elbow in so much so your wrist isn't tucked directly under. I don't have a deflector and have no issues with it hitting my wrist.
I think its a combination of the parts just expanding with heat (he did mention that it only happened after 150 rounds or so), and the fact that shotguns like this are notorious for misbehaving if you repeatedly fire them as quickly as he was; especially something like the UTAS UTS-15, but that thing has so many other problems, its hard to pick just one. I did notice though that the DP-12 didn't seem to flex nearly as much as the KSG.
Just (end of Feb 24) picked up the DP-12 From Palmetto State Armory for just around $999!!! Haven't even gotten out to the field to shoot it yet, but excited to. Great video! New subscriber!
Having used the KSG and owning a DP12 I prefer the DP12 to the KSG. The KSG after breaking it down 10-15 times, cleaning, oiling, and making sure it was reassembled at a relatives house, he and I spent more time doing that than shooting it. He eventually sold it just to get rid of it . The DP12 I have owned for a year now and i have never broken it down or cleaned it after having shot 6-7 hundred rounds through it. I have experienced however as in this video the light primer strikes of the DP12. At most i would say its been 5-10 shells that failed to fire. Now I havnt broken it down to see whats going on in there whether it is a factory issue or a ammo issue even though i highly doubt its the ammo do to the light dimple on the back of the shell. Price difference is significant to i paid 1400 before taxes on mine but to me it was worth it. All in all though i love the DP12 it has a velvety smooth action but neither make good skeet guns lol.
There is a shell deflector available now to prevent the shells hitting your wrist and there is a selector extension which makes it very easy and fast to switch tubs.
Hey man I know you put a lot of time and energy into this video and I really appreciate it. Really helped me with making the decision between the two... I'm going with the KSG! Anyways thanks again keep up the really good videos thank you!!
Slow down on those times you’re trying to speed up. You’re short stroking it and creating the yam. On the one barrel one. Slower means faster when short stroking occurs.
Between the two, KSG. But, I'll stick with my 870, she's never done me wrong. _ The sticky rounds might be the Winchester you're using.. I've had to butt-stroke more than a few of them out. __ Awesome video! *~Spoiler~* After 30min of watching, the best bullpup IS? The 870! LOL
Super Tactical.. It's got a black stock and everything.. (Snark) _ 870 Mag express, w/ 18" cly, Short Lop Hogue stock&forend, streamline sidesaddle, and +2 extension. My cheapest, and most adored firearm.
sticky problems usually are related to 'shell quality'.. I once shot some cheap shells that left a coating in the barrel that after about 20 rounds I had use a rod to bang them out, like a muzzle loader!... switched to Remington and never had a problem!
Fantastic review; very impressed with the thoroughness and honesty. I'm still debating on which to get personally, but this review has shed a lot of light on the pros and cons. I am especially interested in those failure to fires in the DP12, which I primarily wanted more due to it's supposed increased reliability. Thanks for the great video.
Addressing the cons on the KSG, the first one is there a spent casing deflector available now and for the selector switch there a longer replacement available so you can now toggle between tubes with your wrist so you no longer need to go off target to switch between tubes.
Did the manufactures ever comment on the misfires, shell extraction "bite" or the stickness? After watching your review, they both seem to have major issues and made me decide not to buy either. It seems like each one failed the most import test during the speed fire. Not good - seems like they would have caught this during testing on their end and just let it go out anyway. IMHO
Been using a Gen 2 KSG for about a year now, no problems to speak of. For whatever reason the shells don't seem to hit my wrist, maybe this depends on shooting style and arm length? I've never held a DP-12, but just looking at the thing I can't help but think "Who the hell thought that was a good idea?" The thing weighs so much it's not even remotely considerable for real world use, and the accuracy issue with having two barrels basically means using slugs is impossible. I didn't even know the field strip was so @#$%ed up until I saw this, but good lord how are people even remotely excited about that gun? Not to mention the price... If people want a fast shotgun they ought to buy a semi-auto. Besides the important stuff, I think it looks worse than Clinton's health. Good video and good observations.
Angry Owl I think the dp12 is more of a "badass" novelty firearm more than a truly practical defense gun. on a side note, have you by chance tried Aguila minishells in your ksg
I haven't had a chance to do that yet, I've been pretty caught up with school and camping/testing my AR build so the KSG hasn't been getting a lot of use for a bit.
TL;Dr of the video: KSG pros and cons vs DP-12: -Much lighter -One barrel so better accuracy at range -Selector switch to load two different rounds (but can be a con, see below) -Cheaper! Which is really pretty huge for a lot of us, as if two things are about as good but ones is 30% less money, well... -Easier to clean/strip Cons: -Ejected shells can hit wrist, like he showed -Can get sticky and result in failure to load shells; overall less robust action -Ejector switch must be toggled after one tube is empty (which would be hard to remember in a combat situation) or could even be switched accidentally -Only loads one round per pump, so shoots at about half the speed of the DP-12 (all things being equal) -One less round -More recoil than DB-12 -Less badass; I admit the KSG is a ridiculous cool and gorgeous shotgun, but the DP-12 is even cooler as far as pure novelty/wow factor as it's double barrel and looks like it's from Terminator 7. Just writing this it's hard for me to determine which features I care about more. In the end I think I agree that I prefer the KSG dollar to dollar, but as to which I want more, I'm still unsure.
Spoken like someone that doesn't know what the they're talking about. "I've never held a DP-12, but the thing is way too heavy to even remotely consider" is a dumbass opinion. I've handled both, shot both, and bought the one that performed better. The DP-12 is a FAR better close quarters weapon, and the LOP is actually built for a man. Maybe you should just get to a gym.
Right because getting pelted by shells and having to switch between the loading tubes is no legitimate downside in a "combat scenario." I don't really think you thought out your comment at all. And incase you're not aware, he did a new vid explaining that the dp-12 made an improvement on the slide making it all metal-on-metal improving the alidse function considerably. Making it superior to the KSG. KSG wont even produce a company-made shell deflector for THEIR GUN. 100% stupid.

Thank you Jimmy! Means a lot. Thank you for all the support. MUCH MORE COMING.
+1989Muppet Huh, I wonder why?
Oh I forgot...ALWAYS DOUBLE TAP!!!
You should get vambraces for the ksg.
pretty sure during your speed test that was operator error you were most definitely short stroking the action on both shotguns. alot of people give the ksg a bad reviews because they try to run it as fast as they can an in there rush tend to also short stroke the action. I have do it myself while speed firing a pump shotgun. good vid though
I`m a little late to the show but I think they make a shell deflector for that now. No more snake bite !
No complaints about my KSG,,protects me and my family just fine,, and its a great gopher remover and camping protection. God bless, great video thanks..
Mr. TEN 13 ever have any problems with the shell bite like this man had?
Adam Weight I haven’t, and i’ve cycled all 15 rounds multiple times.
I don't want a shotgun that's made out of beach plastic and plus shotguns are useless against home defense if I want something for home-defense I'll take an AR-15
@@HoeLeeSheet
That would be effective but not cool when the bullets blow through your (neighbors) walls and destroy things in the next room.
#overpenetration
@@HoeLeeSheet Not all polymers/plastics are the same, as should be obvious, despite that I doubt that the polymer that Keltec uses isn't good enough to last
I'm picking up a DP-12 this weekend in my home state of CT. Thank you for the great review.
I always thought the dp12 was just two KSG's welded together
It kinda is.
It's more of a ksg with and extra barrel.
Thanks for letting us know you have a double digit IQ
Best firearm reviews in the Internet! Very entertaining, honest, amazing quality of video. Keep it up
Thank you!
I think Standard Manufacturing must have made minor changes since this video. I've had zero (0) misfeeds or misfires since purchasing mine in Fall 2021 -- it's been 100% perfect. I'm glad they got those issues worked out :)
How many shells do you have through it now?
PERFECT vid, unbiased, very thoroughly in explaining and not just saying like if the audience should know already-experts and BEGINNERS watch.
New with this and understood everything thanks for explaining and not just “oh look what I have this is cool.”
These types of vids are supposed to be educational, not show and tell, other channels can’t comprehend that.
I was literally deciding between these two and you’ve gave great camera angle, multiple different stress tests scenarios, time markers (to avoid wasting time), and things as a newcomer I wouldn’t have considered into perspective
I’ve realized which best suits me specifically, thanks.
Having worked with both, I believe the DP-12 to be the superior of the two......good speed and smooth action. Love the double barrel feature.
It’s also like twice the price
@@brenchyalowicois6748 Yeah it’s 2 ksgs welded together of course it costs twice as much.
@@brenchyalowicois6748 And twice the quality. Wouldn’t pay a plug nickel for that KSG piece of crap
@@toddbowser9415 the early ones yes but they fixed all the kinks. My ksg has been 100% reliable
@@toddbowser9415 plug nickel? How old are you? 150 years old?
That LaRue target rises like something out of a horror movie.
Again 7Yrs. later, but was that because he just shot the crap out of the base of it? Or do they always function that way?
KSG is my to go shotgun for home defense, and its pink :3 For the selector switch i installed a longer one and use my wrist to flick it over to switch tubes.
Haha pathetic you use a shotgun for home defense. Use an Ar15 wont hit your family in a hostage situation.
In that situation, it's undesirable to break your grip in order to engage the 2nd tube.
finally someone who doesn't curse every 2 seconds so I can watch videos around my house without headphones
I will never allow cursing in my videos on GY6vids. I will either bleep them out or cut them out. Promise you that.
It's definitely appreciated thank you!!
Yeah....not for $1300 bucks....almost twice the price of the KSG and all of these issues? I'm good. Great vid.
KAMP- I agree 1,000%.
imgone What does the DP have over the KSG?
@@YardieSmoke1 Nothing.
Thank you for helping me decide that I’m sticking with purchasing a KSG
Nah bro it is 100% worth it ... the first gen dp12s might have had quirks but I've never had the issues this guy had ... its the best shotgun money can buy IMO .... and yes I even say it's better than the m4.
Getting the DP 12 Thursday thank you so much for helping to resolve the feeding issuing when pointing downward
I want to thank Tim Tebow for doing this review.
Ahahahaha
Bwahaha
Muahahaha
🤣🤣🤣
lmao That ending was a lot like a Top Gear verdict: "So between the KSG and the DP-12, I recommend the Remington 870." I know that's not what you were getting at, but it just made me think of that.
If agree with that verdict, but if I didn't have a choice between the two, if choose the DP-12
I'd choose
anyone who advocates for the remington 870 hasn't shot a new one terrible ejection I'd go mossberg
lucernhammer
Not all newer 870 models have problems. However I would say for the $, no one should have any issues, but you can thank The Freedom Group that bought out Remington for that. For sure, you can't go wrong with a mossberg.
More shells can be the difference between life and death. I'll take more over less any day.
Hands down you have some of the most Complete reviews i've seen. Thank you!
thank you!
I'm still continually impressed by how well shot (pun intended) and edited these videos are
Well done man
Thank you! always good to hear, and EXTREME amount of time and money goes into producing them.
OMG No videos mention this!!! Thanks!
@@rwplm thanks for verifying that, i read that somewhere a few weeks back 👊
@@rwplmI started smiling until I saw your reply. I own the ksg also and got excited to test that out.
Just bought KSG, can't wait to shoot, ordered choke tube and recoil pad also scope.
This video made me make up my mind between the two, went with the KSG. Literally no issues at all since i bought it, and it’s an absolute blast to fire all 15 rounds in rapid succession.
Do you still like it? I'm thinking about buying a ksg 12
Absolutely fantastic review Andrew. I really appreciate your time, efforts and sincerity. Thank you and please keep up the great work.
Bought my Ksg12 second batch years ago . Still have it love it no problems at all . Still watch this video to date
Glad you enjoy them! Much more to come...thank you for the support.
Are you ambidextrous? Just curious because you shot the guns from both shoulders.
Bought my KSG today. Great comparison with the DP...glad I went with the KSG even more now! Nice review.
I must be perpetually 13 years old (I'm actually 44). Every time he said "girth" I heard Beavis and Butthead laughing!

Hell of a review. Knows his stuff and has GOOD quality.
Thank you!
Hopefully I don't set a shirt on fire.)
you don't have to flip the KSG to switch tubes... you can change it with your wrist. which includes on accident!

Excellent, thorough comparison. I've watched a few videos on these guns. This video was the one to help me decide to purchase the KSG. (I already have a few Mossbergs!) The quality of your presentation is better than the others I viewed.

Thanks for making this video I've been looking for a comparison video for years & yours is the only one I've found that focuses on just the two guns I've searched for
Man that KSG looks so good in that color. Love mine it's black and I can hit a 12" gong at 150 yards with slugs, I Have a Holosun 506C on it.
Nice!
@@GY6vids Very nice!!! The length of the hallway in my house is about 50', so I don't really care about rounds on target at 450'... (that's why I have a .308) Due to the mis-fires in this video, though, I would not choose the DP-12, regardless of Hickok45's review ;)
A place called Hitec has a lot of great upgrades for the KSG. They have a longer tube selector so no need to change your grip to switch tubes
Watching the slow-mo these guns are flexing quite a bit - I wonder if that is contributing to the issues that crop up when you are rapid firing. Either way - great review. I'm leaning towards the KSG due to the centered barrel and consistent target acquisition.
Except the fact of the shells flying out and hitting your wrist.
+Slash Poison deflector available or don't hold your elbow in so much so your wrist isn't tucked directly under. I don't have a deflector and have no issues with it hitting my wrist.
Also, you can't put the DP-12 on safe after shooting one barrel. You have to either shoot both barrels or dump a live round out to put on safe.
I did notice though that the DP-12 didn't seem to flex nearly as much as the KSG.
maniacmatt1782 true true but the fact is, that it is a base shotgun review honestly would not buy either to many cons for the price
Just (end of Feb 24) picked up the DP-12 From Palmetto State Armory for just around $999!!! Haven't even gotten out to the field to shoot it yet, but excited to.
Great video! New subscriber!
It’s a fun shotgun. And I’ve heard they fixed some of the issues I found
Having used the KSG and owning a DP12 I prefer the DP12 to the KSG.
Thank you for sharing your personal experience, sorry to hear youve had such issues. That sucks;-/
+GY6vids you should do a dp12 vid with aguila mini shells lol. thanks for the awesome vids
Yeah that would be cool! The DP-12 can dump shells so fast it would be a crazy time for sure!

I have an extended tube selector that I can switch tubes with a flick of my wrist on my KSG..
There is a shell deflector available now to prevent the shells hitting your wrist and there is a selector extension which makes it very easy and fast to switch tubs.

Slow down on those times you’re trying to speed up. You’re short stroking it and creating the yam. On the one barrel one. Slower means faster when short stroking occurs.
Redo that testing going slower and you will see I’m correct.

sticky problems usually are related to 'shell quality'.. I once shot some cheap shells that left a coating in the barrel that after about 20 rounds I had use a rod to bang them out, like a muzzle loader!... switched to Remington and never had a problem!
I watched a video where the guy stuffed 24 Aguila mini shot shells in the KSG and it worked perfectly. Interesting, great educational video you did!

Awesome as always, Andrew!
Addressing the cons on the KSG, the first one is there a spent casing deflector available now and for the selector switch there a longer replacement available so you can now toggle between tubes with your wrist so you no longer need to go off target to switch between tubes.
Damn, he powdered that pidgeon. Slow-mo really added to this.
Good enough! Honest review plus Timelines provided clinched it. Subscribed.
Welcome to GY6vids!
The faster you try to pump a bullpup, the more likely to accidentally short-shuck it, causing jams.
OUTSTANDING VIDEO.. VERY DETAILED. I really enjoyed this video.. Answered ALL my questions! :)
Glad it was helpful!
*"DP-12 hands down!"*
Great video y’all, your production and demonstration is pretty phenomenal. Keep up the good work!
IMHO
Very high quality and professional video. No bias, just facts. Great job
TL;Dr of the video:
KSG pros and cons vs DP-12:
-Much lighter
-One barrel so better accuracy at range
-Selector switch to load two different rounds (but can be a con, see below)
-Cheaper! Which is really pretty huge for a lot of us, as if two things are about as good but ones is 30% less money, well...
-Easier to clean/strip
Cons:
-Ejected shells can hit wrist, like he showed
-Can get sticky and result in failure to load shells; overall less robust action
-Ejector switch must be toggled after one tube is empty (which would be hard to remember in a combat situation) or could even be switched accidentally
-Only loads one round per pump, so shoots at about half the speed of the DP-12 (all things being equal)
-One less round
-More recoil than DB-12
-Less badass; I admit the KSG is a ridiculous cool and gorgeous shotgun, but the DP-12 is even cooler as far as pure novelty/wow factor as it's double barrel and looks like it's from Terminator 7.
