And to answer your question, the 4 Gauge is just what I thought. An extremely high damage output shotgun that is fun to shoot. Although, I was surprised to hear you say it holds 3+1. With that ginormo anti aircraft barrel, I was sure it would hold more for extra fun, haha. Thanks for an entertaining video, as always, Scott.
"funny story Ivan. One day a trio tried to rob my house. So i grabbed my shotgun and gave them a good pump welcome. The first bastard ran as soon as he heard the pump. The second thought he'll be brave and take on 12 gauge buck. Unfortunately for him, i don't have 12 gauge shotguns, I only have 4 gauge at home." "What happened to the third one?" "I had him clean up the second off my pristine floorboards and paid him with birdshot for his troubles"
Never commented before but glad to see he didn't let that .50 cal snafu keep him down. Keep it up man, I remember when this show first started and it was always good but he really seems to be coming into his own lately. You can get any of this info anywhere but he makes it fun to watch, that's probably the main reason I watch.
First of all, note that it is Russian made. In the states anything larger than 10 guage is illegal for any kind of hunting. That's why most have never heard of it. They still make 8 guage ammo, but not the guns. That's because the ammo is used to "shock clean" things like kilns and boilers. From a logical standpoint, it was quite logical for the Russians to come up with a 4 guage shotgun because of all the 4 guage elephant guns that were made. No problem coming up with the needed engineering data because it had already been done. All that was needed was to bring everything forward into our current Era. Regardless, I'm impressed anyway.
One of the things I've always liked about shotgun shells is how easy it is to reload them with whatever you have handy. I trust the 4ga will be back, I'd love to see a row of watermelons take on one of those slugs or even the buckshot.
Little side note: The barrels for the TOZ-123 (The original name of the BFG-1) were not made from AA gun barrels, because are rifled. The KS-23 actually is classified as a carbine (the K stands for Karabin) and is restricted to military use only. the TOZ-123 is a normal smoothbore shotgun (as far as 4 gauge is ''normal'' for a shotgun tho).
Wow that was impressive, thought these guns actually didn't exist but glad to see they do. Very surprised that the recoil looked so low but even more so stunned by the CLOUD of bird shot that thing spat out.
"cloud of birdshot"? Think hamburger meat and your intended prey. I can't see this thing useful for bird hunting. Unless, it's an Ostrich! Pterodactyl, definitely!
Scott, I am actually very curious as to the muzzle velocity of these "4-gauge" (really 6.27-gauge in our measurement standard) buck and slug loads, especially compared to a typical 12-gauge or your undeniably-spicy 10-gauge. I wonder if you'd consider putting something like that on your to-do list. : )
3.5 inch 12 gauge Lichtfield sabot slug was more powerful then any KS-23 or BFG-1 or 10 gauge round. It was doing 4759 ft/lb. BFG-1 rounds are not loaded that hot.
You take guns and humor and keep making fun and informative videos. I always look forward to watching new ones or rewatching past ones. Keep being you. Thanks for all you do.
All around great episode. Best table disposition thus far and you actually caught me with the subscribe notice this time, legit thought there was a gun issue for a second. Also the gundies should have a messiest/grossest range day award named in your honor: The Poup-er Glue-pon award. Unless the spicy film community already corrupted that one?
That thing could use buckshot as a birdshot load 😆 I first saw the KS-23 in a mod for STALKER Anomaly, I figured it was just some prototype gun that the mod author had heard about and thought was cool, I never expected to see one actually fired. That's super neat! I wonder if the age of the rounds didn't gentle them somewhat. It seems like they were all a bit lackluster for being so hilariously oversized. Obviously Scott is a big dude, but I would have expected him to have a bit more of a reaction when firing this thing, I feel like the 10 gauge was more potent at least in the recoil department.
KS-23 itself actually served for a long while as a weapon for SWAT teams and prison guards. It didn't really have straight up buckshot, but accepted several types of rubber slugs, a flashbang slug and several tear gas shells. It's only "lethal" round was a steel slug, but that one was meant fir taking out car engines instead of people. The thing used in the video is "Selezen-4", a civilian version of the KS-23 with a proper stock and elongated barrel
Very underwhelming from what it was supposed to be capable. Age of the shells was the first thought, would definitely be interesting to see some new shells for it. Could also be a low powder load compared to the amount of lead its sending down range. It takes a lot to move 3oz of lead and it might not have enough to really send it.

I really do love 2 things about KS23:
1) Its literally classificated as artillery weapon, since it uses barell from anti-aircraft machine gun
2) The nonlethal "Волна-Р" ammo type, can be lethal under 50 meters
I had no idea a 4 gauge shotgun even existed. Not really surprised the Russians developed it. Those shells are absolutely massive
They even make 4 guage flashbang rounds called the Zvesda
@@jacoba7915 zvezda* it means star in english
@@АнтонЕлбаев I know, its just the name for the 4 guage shells that function like a flashbang. like the volna is the nickname for the less than lethal 4 guage shotgun shell that the ks23 uses
There are also 3, 2, 1, 0, 00 & 000 gauge shotguns as well. The Russians did not invent the 4 gauge shotgun but was invented in England.
Russians didn’t develop the 4 ga shotgun they only made a variant the origin of the original was invented in England.
Seems to me like these would be about perfect for hunting drones. A weapon truly ahead of its time.
Your channel is one of the few that I can watch all day and not get bored or tired of. Thank you, Scott, for all the hard work and above and beyond effort to entertain us and wow us with big guns.
Unfortunately for him, i don't have 12 gauge shotguns, I only have 4 gauge at home."
"What happened to the third one?"
"I had him clean up the second off my pristine floorboards and paid him with birdshot for his troubles"
Never commented before but glad to see he didn't let that .50 cal snafu keep him down. Keep it up man, I remember when this show first started and it was always good but he really seems to be coming into his own lately. You can get any of this info anywhere but he makes it fun to watch, that's probably the main reason I watch.
It would be interesting to see a comparative speed test on slugs between the 10, 12 and 4 gauge.
It looks like 4 gauge is quite slow
@@jimmyjohansson202 But *very* heavy
It’s more of a weight thing.
Indeed, I was expecting a much more explosive effect when shooting the ballistic bust.
Don’t forget 8 gauge!
I didn’t even know that they made a 4 gage shotgun, it is unbelievable! Wow, I always learn something new all the time on here!
i want to know how bad the recoil really is or isn't
In US measurements, it's like 6.75 gauge or something. Only in European measurements (I presume metric based) is it a 4 gauge.
I have seen a 2 bore. But it was a muzzleloader.
Forgotten Weapons did a piece on the 2 bore if you're interested.
I proud of my country. Only Russia can transform the Doom's BFG into the bloody shotgun!
That was impressive, and I feel sorry for the guy who has to clean up this mess.
Scooter probably. :D
@@happisakshappiplace.6588 Can't be him. I saw him leave with his table in tow!
One of the things I've always liked about shotgun shells is how easy it is to reload them with whatever you have handy. I trust the 4ga will be back, I'd love to see a row of watermelons take on one of those slugs or even the buckshot.
Scott never fails to go above and beyond with his vids
You are special because God said you are. You are loved because God said you are. You matter because God said you do.
In this episode, Scott plays with a modern punt gun, makes a giant gummi bear do a backflip, and turns a Furby into individual molecules.
Bad thing, no one will notice this important notice.
True it’s not normal, but it makes such a satisfying splat😊
@@M65V19*Ahem* I literally looked for the comment 🤣 But you right. Only us weirdos will ever know.
I also believe that it’s also only 4 gauge in European measurements and around 6-ish by US standards
Little side note²: BFG-1 was an early prototype of a later final one - The BFG-9000 😎
Wow that was impressive, thought these guns actually didn't exist but glad to see they do. Very surprised that the recoil looked so low but even more so stunned by the CLOUD of bird shot that thing spat out.
By his scream each time he torched off a 1000 gr slug I'm pretty sure, at least with the slugs, recoil was pretty tough
@@russellcrawford4809 the slug rounds for the ks-23 are intended to be used against engine blocks, so I imagine the recoil kicks hard
Russian Claymore Cannon
Wait ‘till you hear of the 2-gauge punt gun, well it’s more like a cannon 💀
"cloud of birdshot"? Think hamburger meat and your intended prey. I can't see this thing useful for bird hunting. Unless, it's an Ostrich! Pterodactyl, definitely!
Scott, I am actually very curious as to the muzzle velocity of these "4-gauge" (really 6.27-gauge in our measurement standard) buck and slug loads, especially compared to a typical 12-gauge or your undeniably-spicy 10-gauge. I wonder if you'd consider putting something like that on your to-do list. : )
I have one, but I'm too sceered to shoot it. Hasn't been fired in about 150 years. 😬😬😬 plus, I only have one shell. 🤦🏼♂️
I was just about to mention that. Kind of odd that 4 gauge/6 gauge work like that but apparently 12 gauge is still 12 gauge...
Saw that barrel off to 18" and you got yourself the perfect home defense weapon!

I like the way you think.
Hold up Mr. Robber while I clear this jam.
That zombie shot spread was beautiful. I can watch that all day. Firearms are beautiful and destructive. Hell yeah!!!!!!
That thing could use buckshot as a birdshot load 😆
I first saw the KS-23 in a mod for STALKER Anomaly, I figured it was just some prototype gun that the mod author had heard about and thought was cool, I never expected to see one actually fired.
It takes a lot to move 3oz of lead and it might not have enough to really send it.

well thats actually pretty good; huge ammo shotgun with huge barrel and not much of a kick to user? damn, thats sweet
I love that he’s on the box of hard to find shells and riding a bear.😂
The average 50 bmg round is 660 grains so that gives you some perspective of how massive the slug is.

And suddenly every kid from the 90s-00s all rejoiced when he blasted the Furby. 😂 I wasn’t old enough at the time when I owned one of those, but definitely wanted to shoot it. Wouldn’t have thought like 20+ years later Scott would do it for me. 😊

People used to use huge shotguns like this around here but they got banned because people were taking out entire flocks of ducks in one shot. You can still find old shells at gun shows.
Those were punt guns.
Much bigger then this.
Like atleast twice as big minimum
@@cw93711 Thanks captain pedantic!
4 Bore punt guns exist. There's no set size. Also, 4 bore is only .55'' smaller than 1 bore. I think the word you were looking for was longer.
@pilsnerd420 punt guns could have a bore of over 2 inches and shot over a pound of shot with each shot.
They were normally mounted directly to the boat or punt on a swiveling mount and, when fired, pushed the punt backward several feet.
These are the ones that took out entire flocks of ducks.
Oh, they didn't use shells either.
