The Pancor Jackhammer was a select-fire combat shotgun designed by John Anderson in the 1980s. He was a Korean War veteran who had used a pump shotgun in combat, and while he liked the shotgun concept, he felt there must be a more efficient way to make a shotgun than a single-loading pump action. The tinkered with ideas and designs, and ultimately devised the Jackhammer. It is a remarkably clever and interesting mechanism, combining mechanical elements from the Mannlicher 1894, 1895 Nagant revolver, and the Webley-Fosbery automatic revolver.
After making several dozen mockups out of wood and clay to get the mechanics just right, Andersen built a fully functional prototype, which is the gun you see here. It used a lot of large cast parts (and weighed a fully 17.5 pounds), and had a very slow reloading process. However, it proved that the concept was valid and it worked reliably. Anderson then made two more with much lighter materials and a much improved reloading mechanism. These two guns were submitted to the US military for testing, and both were ultimately destroyed by HP White Labs in destructive tests. The testing proved very positive (the guns survived a 50,000 round endurance test), but were ultimately rejected by the military.
The first prototype was kept personally by Anderson, and is now the sole existing Jackhammer. It was owned for several years by Movie Gun Services, which rented it to a number of film, video game, and comic book companies. Because of this and its very distinctive appearance, the Jackhammer has made appearances in a vast number of comics and video games.
Thanks to the folks who kicked in to my IndieGoGo fundraiser to help me make the cross-country trip to film this gun! I was not able to shoot it for liability reasons (the owner was not present and the gun most recently sold for $135,000), but I hope you will enjoy getting an in-depth tour of how it works.

I finally found the one gun that takes longer to load than a musket.
This is what the founding fathers were thinking when they penned the 2a
The Founding Fathers wrote about balancing power between the people and the government: when the firepower changed, it needed to change equally for both sides (personal weapons). But ignoring the flawed premise, the lack of historical understanding is gobsmacking stupid: since at the founding of the country we had 8-shot revolvers, 11-shot field artillery pieces, Jefferson had a 22 shot repeating rifle. Not to mention "burst mode" fully automatics that fired up to 20 rounds with one pull of the trigger. Anyone that makes the argument that the 2A was for muskets disqualifies themselves from rational discussion on guns and gun technology.
Not at all. How many muskets would you have to load to kill so many enemies?
@@shootemup2223 anyone who cares so much what a bunch of slave owners thought disqualifies himself from any modern legal or moral discussion. Why do you care what the guy who raped an enslaved 14 year old envisioned? Founding Fathers would never accept black people or women having human rights so it's irrelevant what was their stance on guns.

It would be cool a system like this but with actual box magazines or standard drum mags, like the AA12, for quick reloading. But i don't know, it would change the way the barrel operates?
It could be made to reload like a revolver, you would just cock the barrel forward then have a button that let's the brum release like a revolver to empty spent shells and also let it free spin to reload faster
+FraggingBard
There are a few more things needed. the fact that its easy to override the sear contact points is a problem that needs addressing. the mag release needa to be improved to allow easy reloading in the field. We thoufht about doing that but the expense would be too great on a prototype firearm. also....most importantly, we would have to make it in a way that doesnt permanently alter the gun.

A pump shotgun did the job better and was cheaper. Not to mention the fact that in a warzone or anywhere really a full auto shotty in just not needed, it's purely a for shits and giggles in reality.
The dude's experience was in the Korean war when shotguns were actively used in combat somewhat frequently, it wasn't uncommon to have someone in the squad with a shotgun. Once you get past the Korean war and assault rifles became more and more commonplace to cover almost every combat role, and now you may as well use a pump or a semi auto tube shotgun since they have a specialized role and not something that you generally bring for the purpose of shooting someone, but more for breaching purposes.

Gun singlehandedly makes every game it appears in an alternate history setting.
I've never seen that gun in movies ever the first time I've heard about was Zach's gun rants.
I've only seen it in a mobile game called pixel gun 3d where it's pretty good and also blue, but that game has all sorts of wacky weapons, like a cookie oven that is way more powerful than a minigun
@@suursuits7637 also in dead trigger 2 i think
First time i saw it was in a gmod gun addon

First time I saw it was in Fallout 2.
omg the pump sound
Even though this is insanely over engineered, I think these prototypes are infinitely more interesting than a final product. The problem solving here, especially in the fire control group, is awesome.
Show this to every glock customizer for a lesson in real gunsmithing. Awesome video.
Really cool video, glad you managed to cover this weapon. Too bad it never saw mass production, seemed like a lot of good engineering went into it.
