I love how Billy just throws the metronome on the floor when he's done with it after saying that it's "held together with a rubber band because he dropped once in the dressing room & it broke" at 18:48.
I've been a drummer for 35 years and have always wanted to play bass. This video is great. I like how you describe what's happening in a slow and very simplistic way. You're so humble and funny making it fun and easier to learn bass. You're a great bass player. Thanks.
The Modes of the G Major Scale- Do not fear or over-think them. Just learn their names and start using them: G,A,B,C,D,E,F#,G - G Ionian (G Major Scale). Root chord G A,B,C,D,E,F#,G,A -A Dorian (Jazz Minor, David Gilmour, Santana flavors). Root chord Am B,C,D,E,F#,G,A,B -B Phrygian (a bit of an Yngwie flavor and exotic minor/Spanish flavor). Root chord Bm C,D,E,F#,G,A,B,C -C Lydian (Steve Vai flavor). Root chord C D,E,F#,G,A,B,C,D - D Mixolydian (Blues Rock Major). Root chord D E,F#,G,A,B,C,D,E -E Aeolean (E Minor Scale) Randy Rhoads Metal flavor. Root chord Em F#,G,A,B,C,D,E,F# -F# Locrian (diminished flavored mode) Root chord F# dim - F# power chord not in key. One Scale- Seven Modes- Seven Distinct Flavors! Easy as heck!
@@captainbeyond165 Nice! I forgot about this comment. You're welcome. Making the most of each key and its 7 modes is the most useful thing I've ever learned in music. And it's not even that hard, once you see how one key works.
i was sitting her watching this for about the 5th time and Billy is the Bob Ross of bass playing...makes it so simple to learn it with no pressure just take your time and enjoy it...
I dislike the genres he plays, but I think Billy is one of the best bassists of all time, and an excellent bass teacher. A really good guy who cares about his fans.
My jaw dropped when I heard EVH doing Eruption... then my jaw dropped when I heard Billy's solo from the band Talas... couldn't believe it ... I thought it was layered recordings on top of each other but it's just him playing by himself... incredible... I've been playing guitar and bass , like a bass player with fingers , and I'm not even close to this guy ... I'm playing every weekend with a band ... thanks for posting this Iconic Bass player
This is such a great video even for those of us that have played for years. It's full of great information and Billy is an excellent presenter ... I used to play only passive basses but when I started playin the Music Man Stingray which is purely active, I fell in love with the tone ... So now I make an exception :-)
I do have to admit that I kinda lost the plot a little when he was discussing scales and the different positions. It was a lot to take in. Lol. But other than that, this was a great bass lesson video. Very informative, very encouraging, telling us different ways to do stuff, etc. I've been playing bass for a few, so I more or less know the basics. But I i like reviewing videos like these to make sure I didn't miss anything. Plus, I wanted to learn more about Billy Sheehan, since his playing is awesome as heck! I'm currently playing in a gospel type church, but I'm a sucker for rock music, and I noticed Billy's style of rock bass, so I wanted to check it out. Man's is _incredibly_ goated. I love it!
I only can say Thnak you, thank you, thank you... over and over again... I did went to musci classes when I was a kid, but stopped so soon and didn't continue my studies... guess had other interests; but time went by and it came one day there was an instrument but no musician to play it, guess??? Yes, it was a bass guitar... I said: "ok, got rythm but don´t know anything about solpheo, scales, etc. If you tell me where the fingers go, I can play"... that´s how I started as a bass player... so, I consider myself an outsider (not master one) and... suddenly, one day find this video... I did learn more than could ever imagine in just one hour and a half. That's why I only can say Thank you, thank you, thank you... DeathCrueVideos, Billy Sheehan for sharing!!! Big applause!!!
Nooooooooo!!!!!!! I wasn't ready!!!!!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I recently got into this guy, and he's starting to grow on me _heavily._ But this comment was very funny!!!! 😆😆😆😆😆
Its hard to anchoring the thumb and stretch your fingers across the strings i dont agree on that. Its better to move the hand up and down to come closer to the string you play
do you hear that? when he pauses for effect there is a clicking sound. the sound comes from his mouth and the mic picks it up. its a sucking sound, like a baby nursing. do. you hear it. pet peeve, don't do that. its pretty bad.
I listened to Mr Big just to hear him play. Well, I don’t like Mr Big. It’s just not my thing. I typed up his name in Apple play and he has stuff with other bands where you can hear his playing without the corniness of hair metal.
I'm a simple man. I see Billy Sheehan, I Like the video

The GOAT in the rock n roll bass world and just the nicest human being 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
billy is probably my inspiration for playing bass
A brilliant bass player, I remember seeing this video in the 90s… One of my absolute heroes in the music world

I can’t tell you what genre he plays, or what bands he’s been in; he’s a new discovery for me and likely will be a new hero of mine.

Fantastic! Thanks very much for this upload.
Thank you for shared. 👍😁
Was always curious how Billy put his strings because he has a few inches on the threaded part. So, he just bends it in half.
~ Make and model of bass please?
somebody know where to obtain the book assocciated to this video?
I played silence bass. No string needed. 😊
귀한 영상 감사합니다 'ㅡ')/★
IDK why but Billy reminds me of George Carlin.
