At this point do the Grammy's even matter anymore? Back when music was gatekept by radios and record labels, the Grammy's brought awareness and prestige. But now fans have a direct link to their favorite artist's new music through numerous apps and distribution platforms. I remember getting Grammy nomination compliation CDs and being exposed to hit music I had never heard. These days I've already heard and listened to everyone who is being nominated and winning way before the Grammy nominations are even announced, due to online exposure and ease of access to the artists' content. The Grammy's can say "this is the best song of the year" but it has little to no effect on how many streams that song gets. An artists gets snubbed, it has no effect as well. The fans either agree with the win or feel the artist was snubbed, nothing changes. Especially with Gen Z, I don't think they even register who wins and loses a Grammy and listen to whoever they want. At this point it's an industry wank fest trying to justify its own existence and is only good for a few performances a year. Same goes with the Oscars, Emmy, Golden Globes, etc. The internet has made information and spreading of content and opinions so accessible, we don't need industry people to tell us what to like anymore.

The Grammys were very unfair to Ariana and BTS. Yes Billie had a great year with amazing music but they should have gave Ariana at least 1 Grammy. At this point do the Grammy's even matter anymore? Back when music was gatekept by radios and record labels, the Grammy's brought awareness and prestige.
But now fans have a direct link to their favorite artist's new music through numerous apps and distribution platforms. I remember getting Grammy nomination compliation CDs and being exposed to hit music I had never heard.
These days I've already heard and listened to everyone who is being nominated and winning way before the Grammy nominations are even announced, due to online exposure and ease of access to the artists' content.
The Grammy's can say "this is the best song of the year" but it has little to no effect on how many streams that song gets. An artists gets snubbed, it has no effect as well. The fans either agree with the win or feel the artist was snubbed, nothing changes.
Especially with Gen Z, I don't think they even register who wins and loses a Grammy and listen to whoever they want. At this point it's an industry wank fest trying to justify its own existence and is only good for a few performances a year.
Same goes with the Oscars, Emmy, Golden Globes, etc. The internet has made information and spreading of content and opinions so accessible, we don't need industry people to tell us what to like anymore.
