So happy for you! As an American who owns small British cars in the US (a classic Mini and a MINI), I totally understand the appeal a big American Crown Vic has for you in the UK! It’s a very cool car and the V8 sounds delicious under full throttle!
as I have a MINI as well Im looking forward to getting them side by side
I haven't finished the video yet, but there is a cheap, easy, and effective way to solve the speed of the turn signal flash. You get one of the electronic flashers that is used for trailer towing. The speed of the flash will be spot on, even with just the front signal being a normal bulb. They cost about $7CDN, or about £5. I can't imagine the mailing cost would be much as they are small and light, so if you find you need one, shoot a message and I can have it in the post the same day. I have changed more than a few. I would also do the one for the 4 way flashers because of the way they are wired. If the 4 way flasher goes bad and sticks in the wrong position you are left with no brake lights or turn signals as well. You get one guess to figure out why and how I know that. Here's a hint: 5 Panthers and 4 Torino Birds.
I'm up to 11:03 now. You backing down the drive needing to give it a bit of throttle tells me that the brakes are still sticking, and likely more than one. With the age of the car, it is likely a good idea to do all 4 flex lines, too. They can delaminate and the lining of the hose can act as a line lock.
For dampers, the Ford branded Gas shocks are the way to go. They just work better. They also last, having seen 150,000 miles out of them before failure.
That V8 is crying out for a nice aftermarket stainless steel exhaust system to help it clear it's throat great video can't beat the sound of a v8
Hurrah for the Vic! My Panda 100HP passed an MOT today (second try...) so it must be a lucky day. Looking forward to your future adventures with it :)
I bet that was like driving a land yacht compared to what you're normally used to driving. 😂
My wife's MiTo failed the mot test today ( broken spring) , I think I'd be more disappointed if your Crown Vic had failed rather than hers! It's an epic motor 😎 no.1 on the fleet. Congratulations 🎊
Awesome result! I loved it when you floored it and I could see the transit van behind you disappearing in the rear view. As well as the singing v8, great stuff!
IMHO, Matt should be in a dark suit and tie and wearing Ray Bans whenever he drives the Crown Victoria: the No 1 haircut is also a must...
Even as an American I find these things a challenge to drive on smaller streets - it's not the length, but the width. Imagine they must require a lot of concentration on UK lanes. Though for truly gargantuan Fords, I think the 1960 Galaxie (and Mercury counterparts) have it at 81.50 wide - 2070 mm. (They weren't even officially 'legal' in some states - though Ford got a one year pass)
The Crown Vic/Grand Marquis is only 4" wider max than a Mustang. It's being used to big cars that makes them comfortable. I learned how to drive in my Mom's 1978 Ford LTD station wagon...
And my Dad's '78 Ford Fiesta. It gave me a nice contrast.
The width of the UK Ford Transit van is 2474mm including the mirrors so the Crown Vic isn't too big for UK roads. Just needs more concentration due to being driven from the wrong side of the road.
I really hope to see a video with the crown vic with Hubnuts Ford Fairmont Au. A comparison of the australian 4 door sedan and american 4 door sedan. Plus the au falcon was also a police car aswell
Glad the Vic passed inspection. Remember when replacing suspension parts on the P71 Vic's that it requires heavy duty parts. especially the shocks.
Awesome! Love the moments of pure concentration as you take in that V8 growl! Looks like your research paid off and you've got yourself a really good Crown Vic. Nice one!
Congrats on the pass! There's nothing like the roar of the 4.6. I've got an 08 and recently got a mid 90s aero police interceptor to fix up, those are getting rare even here in the states
Yes they are and the prices are going up .
The "Let's wreck perfectly good vehicles affordable by the poor," aka "'Cash for 'clunkers'" scams didn't help.
Well this comment at the top saved me watching . 🤣
@@HiroNguy No it did not , that made me sick .
Mark, you're right. That program had a tremendous effect on used car prices. Some really nice well maintained cars were scrapped
It’s cool you have a US car in the UK where I would love a UK car in the US. :)
Enjoyed the high drama when the CV returned home and was immediately given a stern dismantling. Well played getting that fixed yourself. I bought an LS430 recently that had a collapsed rear air shock. Took me a while to find a mechanic that would fit replacement used parts, so that I too could get it MOT'd. So I know the frustration of looking longingly at a car you can't drive. Car passed with no advisories, but the joy for me was short-lived when the front shock went along with the compressor. Ebay is an aladdin's cave for car spares though so I'm back up and running (for now).
Given the bad quality of almost every new after-market non dealer part you buy these days, I cannot understand why a mechanic would not fit a used original one.
Congratulations, another great achievement! …and the sound of that V8!
I'm extremely happy that there is another vid I absolutely love these P71 vids!
Great news! I've got a CVPI coming to the UK too so I'll copy what you did for the indicators and fog light.
I have a grand marquis here in Bahrain 🇧🇭, many people in Gulf mainly KSA, Kuwait, and Bahrain feel in love and loyal with these cars ( panther platform ). These cars spare parts here in the gulf region is very cheap as there are many of them.. Happy to see this 98-02 CVPI in UK as it is unusual
I have enjoyed watching Furious since the Bangernomics Mondeo. ( I like it cheap )
Since this time the fleet has expanded and now appeals to so many people. I have to say I am so jealous of the P71, , I’m sure it wasn’t easy to get it over here but it looks absolutely awesome. I want one 👌
I've got a 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis, basically the same car with a leather interior. It is without doubt the smoothest car I've ever driven, as well as needing the least control input to get it to do what I want.
Well done. Perhaps it time to change the rev signature of this channel to a v8 burble?
I am now getting all sots of Crown Vic suggestions on the right.
Well, I’ve never heard anyone say Catalytic Converter like that before 😆 BUT great news on the MOT and the content for this car and it’s story from its previous life stateside, your efforts to obtain it and everything that is happening now is brilliant!
Takes me back to my youth fretting about my MOT. Plastic ramps l use for my Mobile home are very good, lightweight and rust free and not particularly expensive.
Im happy for ya , I live in the America and finely was able to buy a kind a clapped out 2011 Crown Vic that had some front end damage . I installed a new fender , bumper , header panel , grill and new lights and I love driving it , actually drive it more then my 2015 Toyota Tacoma and I love my Toyotas . Your car should be easier on fuel once you start driving it more , If I drive nicely I can average 20-22 mpg .
That is even more impressive when converted to imperial gallon. 24-27mpg
Great news! You can't beat the sound of a V8
Was watching a Canadian vlogger and his CVPI the other day, and he said that the "ticket light" is pretty rare for civilian ownership.....so that's a plus
That smile on your face when you accelerate!
Delighted. What a trial, your enthusiasm is brilliant to watch. Onwards and Upwards!
Sounds epic! Best car on your fleet. (In my opinion)!
The P71 interceptor was my dream car, Until i got in one for a test drive. My 6 foot 4 frame is too long to comfortably drive these cruisers. Still have a love for them though. Glad to see one getting the love it deserves after probably years of Duty and hours and hours of idling.
I actually let out a kind of 'yes' noise when you said it had passed it's test. Really happy for you. :)
I can't think of too many cars more out of place on UK roads than a P71 Crown Vic. I love it. Very glad the MoT is complete.
At one stretch, I used to get P72 rental Crown Vics fairly frequently. Sort of a quirk of the rental agency my company relied on, I think. I appreciated the relaxed and quiet ride, but maybe not so much the fact that everyone in front of me immediately dropped to the speed limit, and people refused to pass me.
Early 90s Buick Roadmaster wagon 🤣
@@alexander1485 Touché. They were monsters
Thats the next US car on my want list!
Well done! your smile when you said Harry had passed was priceless! upwards and onwards!
When I was a kid (around 4) in 98 after a car crash my dad bought a 1985 ford mustang LX 3.8 V6 (red on red, registration was C220 MGN, we called her Megan) and daily drove her to work, shops, road trips, picking me and my siblings up from school all the time..... The car was his only car and after 5 or 6 years by 2004 he sold the car and a few year later my dad saw Megan on a flat bed and was painted silver, tubbed and had a big block 460 fitted. Someone bought Megan and turned her into a drag car.....such a shame
Lesssssss goooooooooo the p 71
Congrats Matt, great news.👍. I was watching a documentary about the Washington sniper case the other night and at one of the crime scenes there were several police cars one of which was exactly the same as your green crown Vic! My first thought was, there's Matt's Crown Vic!😮
Brilliant news well done, looking forward to seeing more of Bosch in the future
I know the nerves, my import had to have the full test as under 10yrs old. Took ages, they test loads more than MOT. Heart sank every time he stopped just to make notes. It's a nightmare. Good feeling when it's done tho' 👍
All I can say is:- It’s 106 miles to Chicago, we’ve got a full tank, half pack of cigarettes, it’s dark out, and we’re wearing sunglasses. Hit it.
You know that was a Dodge Monaco, right?
@@alexander1485 Yes, I do know - one of my favourite films of all time. It's just that Furious is now ready to hit the road in an American police car.
Congrats on the Crown Vic MOT. Nice car and engine. Only problem is the view point when trying to overtake a truck or a bus.
Congratulations and well done for sorting during the same day, I must admit I do like your tinkering video's, keep up the good work and thanks for sharing.
Woo-hoo!😁🥳 GREAT! That was tense but well worth it. The two chickens and goat didn't die in vain after all.
I could sense you were nervous watching this. And your relief after shows how much you love this car already! Great news 👏
Love it! The noise it makes, more then makes up for the fact it doesn't lose the transit in the rearview :)
I thoroughly enjoyed the Rover 200Vi series and now I’m equally enjoying the Yankee Tankee Story!!!❤
Congratulations!! For reference, since you are doing shock absorbers, consider Bilstein 24-014953 for the front and 23-014960 for the rear if you cannot get Motorcraft police shock absorbers. The Bilsteins ride a bit firmer, but they are great and also quite durable.
For the stabilizer bar links, I recommend sealed units that are factory filled with synthetic grease. The Original Equipment part is Motorcraft MEF-171.
As for brake fluid, definitely flush out the old stuff and refill with DOT 4 Plus or DOT 5.1 brake fluid. Also consider changing your power steering fluid; the Ford pumps tend to have the infamous whine at some point. I'd suggest you go with CHF-11S for that one.
Ive actually already ordered the shocks and links from Rock Auto, sealed links and standard Motorcraft Police spec shocks. I thought about firmer ones but as Im only doing the front didnt want to upset the handling, and wanted to try it in regular form before modifying it. Someone else commented about using transmission fluid in the power steering, have you come across that before?
@@furiousdriving Ford calls for Mercon V ATF in the power steering system, used to be plain Mercon at one point before Mercon V superceded it since Mercon is no longer being licensed. That being said, CHF-11S hydraulic fluid is a far better fluid for the power steering system. It uses a PAO base stock (doesnt thin out or break down easily), has an extremely high viscosity index (great for extreme cold and extreme heat) and a low cSt (flows easily) that is only matched by aviation grade hydraulic fluids.
Congratulations!
I have a 03 Grand Marquis, nice to see another Panther car on the road in the UK.
Whooooo hooooo 🥳 congratulations on getting the old girl through the MOT, an amazing car and one to keep forever ? 👍😁
Its a long termer for sure
Congratulations 🥳 that lovely v8 sounds amazing 👌
Too bad Ford quit the production of this fine vehicle.
As a Radio Tech working on cruisers for several PD's it was great driving new cars from the dealer to the PD. plain white wrapper the only give away are the pair of spots on the A pillars. Funny they had no number plates on them either and we are passing several city cruisers as well as the State Patrol. Never were stopped just an acknowledgement wave from some of the officers.
One of the best riding cars of the time! Yes the power of that engine is great! Enjoy the ride!
I got to admit that's pretty cool to see the Crown Vic across the pond, cool part is I know exactly what you're feeling I have to work on and occasionally get to borrow his 92 Citroen XM Prestige, Matra Rancho, and the 2 stroke Saab 9-6 that came from Yorkshire funny enough here in Chicago.
Edit: Not to mention for a ol Vic it is blessed coming from Ohio and surprisingly clean/bearly rusted for it's age most of the ones I work on even if low mileage the salt has just eaten them alive. As a Ford nut I hope it does you well, also lots of the taxi Crown Vics I've worked have their original engines with 300k-500k miles on em still running strong... Maintenance goes a long way with em.
Very happy for you Matt! Good times enjoying the barge while you still can!
Congratulations!! Looking forward to plenty more content with your Crown Vic.
Fantastic result Matt! Can't wait to see, and hear, some more vids of the Crown Vic out at and about.
Congratulations! I can't wait to see this with its plate and conducting some road trips!
Congratulations! I'm so happy for you, and the Vic :)
Nice one Matt, hopefully you will not have to wait too long with the DVLA.
Oh that GREAT V8 sound
Nice one! it was MOT day for my 24 year old Saab convertible yesterday - also a pass, at this age I never take it for granted that it hasnt developed a problem...
Delighted for you! Mind you it wouldn't be FD if there wasn't an unexpected surprise, glorious sound and looking forward to more videos.
Well done! Love the feeling of an MOT pass!!
I would bleed the brakes, maybe not today, but near the top of the list. I'm in the USA, had a Mercury version as a rental. They are nice cars, not too big if you have the room. Normal cars in the '50's -'80's were this size or bigger.
Wow !!what a growl from the v8👍 enjoy your videos
Well done Matt looks like you have got a really good crown vic there it looks and sounds amazing here’s hoping you can get registration quickly and enjoy many happy miles of motoring in it Daniel
Great news! Your relief was there for all to see. You do look completely at home in this car, like you were born to it 😊✔
Congratulations on the MOT Pass! Can't wait to see what you'll have in terms of content for us with this old girl next! ^^
I'm well chuffed Matt, great news, can't wait to see future videos, hope Swansea are prompt and efficient 🤞
So glad you got your dream car on the road and another great video has always
Love the sound of the engine sounds like it's got supercharger fitted
Congratulations! I love seeing these cars in right hand drive countries! You have a super clean P71 and I'm jealous! Watching all the way from Miami, Fl!
Congratulations with the pass, mate! Looking forward to see it in action on the roads :).
Yeeeessss! We passed. Nice one Matt. Looking forward to watching the up=coming fixes.
Crown Vic for the win! Congratulations on the MOT pass. Looking forward to a full review and seeing it at a few shows this year.
So happy for you and the vic!
Great news that it's passed - very happy for you! I'm sure there were some other cars that had to be tested with a Tapley meter.
Congratulations! Epic news Matt and not without a bit of added jeopardy. Hope you’re taking it to the Practical Classic show?
Way to go Matt!Congratulations!Good job!
Absolutely love this car! Amazing, well done.
So happy for you! Sounds, moves and rides down the road like a healthy one....that CV you drove before made a thumping noise on every bump. Your handbrake should pop off by itself when you put the car in Drive or Reverse and you have to flip the decorative cover a bit back on the ashtray in order to use the cup holders as they are meant to be. Super car...you will love it.
So happy for you Matt! Awesome car.
I've had to do the exact same thing to my Rover 2000 caliper as of late - lack of use is terrible for cars!
Great news Matt. Well done
A moment of truth for the Sherman tank.
I' m happy for you.
Great result Matt. Now to enjoy the car!
I’m so happy for you Furious. Great news. Pete 🇬🇧
Congrats and many happy miles
I felt your pain and then your joy Matt 👏🏻
Congrats and enjoy!!
Seized calipers oh the joys! Like the G clamp idea, good for double pistons, or a piston either side, generally use those big parrot grip things in my own calipers which are all single piston sliders. Always worrying to think what that binding heat does to the bearing seals and stuff, specially as it's heating up really quickly. Might be worth doing a fluid flush some point. Congrats on the MOT woohoo!
Congratulations. Probably worth fettling the other calipers too.
Congrats and very well done.
I had a binding front brake on my E46 that was easily rectified by popping the piston out giving it a clean up then back in and
a quick bleed. Its worth trying it before ordering a new caliper if the problem appears again.
Lovely car and cant wait to see more of it.
Yes, I was thinking that, a lot quicker and cheaper than a new caliper.
Well done Matt, congratulations on the pass!
Lovely car.
Great success, happy times!
This is my favourite YT car at the moment.
Congrats!! Those front shocks aren't easy, most of us just a buy a quick strut and swap the whole assembly. If you do that, I would recommend two new rear springs. But given the shipping costs to where you are, perhaps just disassembling the coil-over strut and replacing the shock cartridge is the better bet.
Yay it’s getting there. It’ll be awesome once it’s fully on the Road
Great news: all coming together slowly.
what a lovely car and a great video keep up with the good work
Well done Matt I am very pleased for you 🙂👍👍👍
