A fabulous documentary. Marianne Faithfull fought the Male Gaze with drugs and entered the underworld to uncover the Self. A woman who braved the unknown passage and pioneered the way for other woman to fully embody the opposites within.
Mariane is a talent by herself. A good actress, a gorgeous, good singer and songwriter, and a nice, wise and clever lady. I always love to hear Mariane. Singing and in interviews she spreads beauty and intelligence, a not common mix. Am reading her autobiography, which I recommend warmly. Love both periods in her music. A very interesting, lovely, fascinating person. A unique artist. Deeply admire her. 🙄🤔💎💖👌
I met Marianne when she and Mick Jagger visited Frank Zappa's log cabin in Laurel Canyon, Hollywood. They sat in the kitchen with Frank and his wife Gail. Mick and Marianne were like a double act - he spoke, she spoke, he spoke, she spoke. By contrast, Gail never spoke when Frank entertained. She always sat mute, allowing Frank to hold centre stage. Such a contrast.

Thank-you so very much for posting this documentary of Maryanne! Enjoyed very much, thanks again B DP* & Maryanne* I have been listening to Maryanne's music since the late 70's and am always pleased!!!!! even to this very day!
A very sobering documentary (no pun intended). You are beautiful and talented Marrianne. I hope you are having a happy and joyful life right now. Stay blessed xxx
Damn, I wanted to hear about her dream (possibly whilst in her coma, or just before...🤔) where she was with Brian in "the inbetween" just after hé had let himself get killed...but as she said, she didnt like talking about it. 😔 "Wild horses could'nt drag me away" she said when she finally woke up from that coma. Amazing. Whilst watching this, I realised it would have been Brians birthday today.
In the 60s Marianne Faithful and I were so alike that I was chased through Chicago by a crowd of crazy people who were out to get me! It was very scary........very scary. We are still alike even now. We do have quite a lot in common. We were both born in December and are only 10 days apart. Those days were really strange. Even my mother thought Marianne was me at one time. Very strange. Thanks for reading my comment.
Wow---I didn't know much about Marianne other than the things that went on when she was with Mick Jagger. I knew she later had drug problems, and made a few albums, some better than others. Essentially, I thought of her as Jagger's one-time girlfriend, a London hottie who was also a singer, who sang a song The Stones wrote ("As Tears Go By"), got into drugs, and became a musical footnote. I now see that I was really selling her short. In terms of female musicians who are avant-garde, write controversial and highly confessional lyrics, and are extremely courageous in following their musical visions, I've progressed backwards in time. For me, it started with Tori Amos, then I learned to appreciate Kate Bush, and now I have a much greater appreciation for Marianne Faithfull. I echo what Roger Palmer said below, in terms of it being a rather sad story. However, in this case, it's both a tragedy and a victory. For all she's been through, she survived, she's still making music, and she seems extremely grounded, even in very recent interviews beyond this biography. She certainly seems more sharp than Keith Richards nowadays---she has progressed from being merely intelligent (which she was from the beginning) to being wise. She was given a second chance---good for her.
Everything I knew about you, until today, was wrong. You are a nice person and you will be all right. Thanks for sharing your story and your gifts with us! All the best!
When it comes to artist at 360 ', one of the names is Marianne Faithfull.Especially of the highest level. ❤You will remain in the heart of those who saw you.
When she said "I found out I WANTED to live, but I didnt know HOW to, without drugs and alcohol" and she had to try to figure out how to do it... I empathise completely with her, I know what she means. I'm so happy she got there.
I thought she was a sweet girl who was involved with a jerk like Mick Jagger until she morphed back into her aristocratic Austro-Hungarian mentality and blossomed into a chanteuse a la Kurt Weill My love and respect has greatly grown!!! Thanks!!!
Oh - I understand your choices Marianne. Choices you consciously made. Don't tell me that you had no control over yourself. You're one of my favorite singers, but don't tell me you had no control over your choices.
I think "Tom Hayes" may actually be Tom Waits, who was with Island at the time. I remember when Strange Weather came out in interviews of the time it was stated that she had talked to Tom Waits and he helped her get straightened out with her career, acting sort of as a counselor and that led directly to Strange Weather. They cut directly to Strange Weather at that point. Waits famously doesn't like his friends to tell personal stories about him so it makes sense that Faithful, being a "nice person," would disguise his name since the tale here included a bit of personal info. Of course, me not being a nice person or a friend of Waits, I've opted to stumble along and make the connection.
Marianne allowed herself to be exploited by men from the start but remained very appealing and charming . Her performance on the Late Late show years ago when she sang' Dreaming my Dreams' in an incredibly sleepy voice was mesmerising and unforgettable .
WOW ! Seem's to be a very descriptive expression upon getting to the end of this film. I was expecting to hear her singing, "Dreaming my dreams" and was not prepared to spend an hour of my Sunday morning watching this. Captivating and most interesting. WOW is probably the best word to describe it. W O W .
The best bio actually. Marianne is terrific, so classy, so witty. Many interviews, afterwards, maybe for the many repetition and aging, are quite annoying, life expectancies translates in prosiness. Aging can be a gift , but not to the extreme, alas
Let's be balanced - then we can be profound. When you're as spectacularly beautiful and talented and successful as Marianne was at a very young age, almost no human can have the tools to manage their personal life. Marianne didn't have them. Her development into a mature human being was stunted so sharply so early, it almost never happened. It appears to me that consequently, she has spent her life - and I mean !SPENT! - perceiving herself as only an artist. There is no sign that she ever considered living a non-artistic life. No sign she ever seriously sought getting a job or starting a business. No sign that she took on becoming a "conventional' responsible adult. THAT IS NOT GOOD OR BAD. I DON'T JUDGE IT. IT'S JUST AN OBSERVATION THAT GETS US TO A PROFOUND TRUTH. The deepest happiness comes in two flavors, and always will. Flavor 1. Luck. Marianne experienced this for a brief time. But luck nearly always runs out. It's just reality. The Universe in all its mysterious, perfect inevitable glory. In a spectacularly short amount of time, she went from Pop superstar to a street-corner druggie. (Well, not EXACTLY a street-corner druggie, but rather a "wall" druggie. The Bio explains this.) Flavor 2. Maturity. Most humans reach maturity. You become a real adult. You make practical, sensible decisions. You place others - especially your children - slightly before yourself. You skillfully flow with your environment at every level - personal, family, professional, social, political, etc. You understand that the world is run by human beings just like you. Imperfect in every glorious way. As you become wiser, and your understanding grows deeper, your embrace increases. Your peace increases. Your power increases. Your happiness increases. The mature person's life is as artistic as Marianne's. It's the art of living with dignity. At the point where Marianne is being interviewed for this video, she is taking on responsibility. She is maturing. She is a smart human being. She'll keep maturing. It's what we do. I love you Marianne. I'm in love forever with your incredible natural beauty - it's what testosterone does. I admire your courage and talent. Keep singing. One piece of advice, Marianne. You may think it inconceivable, but believe me when I tell you, you are capable of no longer smoking cigarettes It will rejuvenate your voice. Far better from my perspective, it will extend the years I can fantasize that you and I will meet and fall in love. I'm always here. Al. P.S. CONGRATULATIONS, MARIANNE!
