god I miss practical effects, I've never seen this movie but even just clips are so impressive
It's actually a decent horror flick
I remember showing this to my daughter and she turned slowly and asked in all disturbed seriousness “What…do you have me watching?” She was horrified and loved it.
This is an excellent essay, with brilliantly detailed analysis! Superb work. A+ XD
Glad you liked it
It isn't my favourite John Carpenter movie, but I think it is the one I think looks the best. The framing and lighting and environment draw the framing of the movie so perfectly, that you believe every second of it.
I was surprisingly intrigued when learning about all the media the team used to make the monsters gooey.
Extremely entertaining essay, thank you so much for the hard work, you're a blessing!
no you're a blessing
Great video! Wonderful breakdown of a true classic.
Thank you Fudd! Glad you enjoyed
In the 1955 "The Thing', the man in the suit is James Arness, who played, "Marshall Matt Dillon" in the TV Show, "Gunsmoke".
This was an amazing and incredibly informative video. The editing was also next level, well done man you got a new sub
Why is it a comic book *artist* and the vfx *nerd* ? Lmao have you got beef?
Amazing video as always tho.
Yes Rob Bottin desecrated my family name
@@AlexBoucher ah that explains it
If you ever get the chance to see The Thing in a theater, regardless of how many times you've seen it, I'd highly recommend it. The sound and special effects come across as much more impactful and immanent than watching at home. Love the amount of care you put into the essay.
What's with the algorithm. This is top quality and deserves more views. Also, thanks for reminding me why I need to watch this masterpiece again soon!

Beautiful essay on one of the greatest movies ever made! I didn't notice the eye shine thing while watching it!
Even when its was only for one scene, so many use this detail to answer the question of the ending.
Great video. I saw The Thing when I was 10 years old and saw nightmares for weeks haha
Awesome work dude, keep it up!

I would personally argue that the 1950's version DOES hold up today aswell, just in a different way.
