      I think that is a fantastic takeaway. Of course Scar caused so much pain in Simba's life, but since Simba didn't deal with that trauma, the lessons Mufasa taught him began to deteriorate and the Pride Lands suffered because of it.

    His problem was the exact opposite of his father's. Mufasa didn't live a life of hardship or tragedy, so he was unable to see the darkness festering in the Pride Lands. In the Lion King 2, Simba can only see darkness because of what he went through. It's a good lesson on having a balance. You can't blindly look at the world and think everything is wonderful all the time, but you also can't live your life fearing the worst.

      Scar truly was a monster, is the villain who carried out the worst unforgivable actions in all of Disney, I think.. and Simba did what he did because he was very hurt by that; and in The lion guard, it hurt me and terrified the extremes with which Scar chased him and his family, I imagine that it hurt him to see what Scar had now done to his son Kion, and how he even almost killed him again, when he sent the scorpion and set fire to the King's rock again..

    Do you ever think that, even though Simba knows it was Scar who had truly killed Mufasa by pushing him off the cliff, he still believes that his roar that echoed through the gorge that day was the real cause of the stampede? That to this day Simba may still not know that it was actually the hyenas that caused the stampede and thus Simba continues to feel some measure of responsibility and guilt towards his father's death?
    I'm so glad at how thoroughly you fleshed out Simba's trauma and I wholeheartedly agree with you. I definitely understood and sympathized with Simba's actions and his decision to banish the outsiders. I never understood why people thought Simba's overprotectiveness towards Kiara in TLK2 was out of character. Of course he would be overprotective of his family after all the trauma he was forced to endure and all the hardships he was forced to face throughout his life. I completely empathized with Simba and some of his lines still hit me hard to this day. "You said you'd always be there for me! But you're not...and it's because of me. It's my fault. It's my fault..."
    I think another thing that adds to Simba's overall thoughts/behavior and how his trauma still affected him was during one of the opening scenes in TLK2 when Simba mentioned how he didn't want Kiara to get into trouble the way him and Nala did when they were kids, which makes Nala respond with "You mean all the trouble YOU got us into." It's said in a playful tone and I think Simba knew that, but I felt like that just reinforced what Simba already believed about himself; that it was always him who put those he loved in harms way and caused them to get hurt.
    This is already getting much longer than I expected, so I'll wrap this up. Simba will forever remain one of, if not my most favorite character in Disney. The maturity to his story, his character development and everything he has gone through paints him as one of the bravest, strongest, greatest characters in my view. He'll always have a special place in my heart. This video was beyond excellent Isaac! Great job once again!

    For me, the part in the nightmare that stuck most with me was when Scar stopped Simba from saving Mufasa and said "Trust Me". Not only does it feel like such a twisted and manipulative way to justify someone's murder of their parent, but it reflected Simba's real relationship with Scar, he trusted him. Simba always looked up to and relied on Scar for his knowledge that he readily accepted responsibility for his fathers death when Scar said it was his fault, only to discover years later that he has been lying and using him from the start. For Scar, Simba was merely an obstacle to obtain the throne, for Simba, Scar was his uncle and that was the worst part about Scar.

  • @tuomaspolla3814
    @tuomaspolla3814 3 роки тому +21

    No wonder is Simba is haunted by his past: He trusted and loved Scar like the family, as he was his uncle, only for Scar to betray his family for his own selfish gain by murdering Mufasa in front of Simba (without Simba either seeing or realizing what Scar did, as he was still cub back, though the image of Mufasa falling to his death must have been forever imprinted in the darkest corners of Simba's memory) and then Scar cruelly labelled Simba as a murderer of his own father before sentencing him into exile. Over years in exile, Simba loathed himself for what he believed was his own fault and much later was shocked down to the core to learn that Scar was the one who did it and all what he had told him were nothing but lies. Of course, the very memory of how Scar destroyed his life gives Simba a very hard time to ever forgive his uncle his actions.

    5:59 Ok, here are my thoughts: I can stand banishing Zira and the other adult lionesses, but the children? From what we know, not only were they the same age as Simba was when he ran away years ago, but I'm pretty sure they weren't even born during Scar's reign, so they had nothing to do with what happened. I'm sure you've seen a lot of debate about the hyenas suffering from discrimination, right? Well, the same thing applies here; I realize that Simba was still very traumatized from what he suffered during cubhood, but to me, that's not an excuse for how he treated Kovu. Throughout the duration of the second movie, never ONCE did he stop to think that Kovu was being manipulated by his mother just like Simba was manipulated by his uncle. At the very least, he should've let the Outlander explain what actually happened, instead of continuing to let his resentment blind his judgment.

  • @BG-be8di
    @BG-be8di Рік тому +5

    I liked your analysis: Simba's trauma in someway, while I was growing up, I was analyzing it: Simba, as a child, saw die his father and also found his lifeless body, it's a great trauma for a child and to make things worse Scar exiled him making him feel guilty, so his self esteem was on the floor and Timon and Pumbaa trying to help him, tell him to try and forget his past, it really hurt me that he avoided his true pain and as a child he still suffered: 1:33 As a child, I realized that his nightmare was relationed with the death of his father; and it touched my heart..
    1:50 also in The Lion King II, he still wished he could have saved his dad and was left with that mark
    2:10 It always hurts me to hear him say crying: "it's my fault" that his dad is no longer with him, he was really very hurt
    3:16that hurt a lot, well, he already knew that this was what he would face if he returned
    3:44Yes, I felt the same rage as Simba, well he remembered the pain he felt when he lost his father and that the culprit was Scar;
    Since his childhood he really did live dark moments, even in The lion guard, it hurt me and terrified the extremes with which Scar chased him, and he even almost killed him again, when he sent the scorpion and set fire to the King's rock again, telling him that he was still naive, Simba did not deserve that suffering and more since he was a child
    9:01 you really moved me, Kiara was what Simba needed to open his eyes and heal some of his pain, with her innocence, hopefulness and see the good in everyone.. that scene is one of my favorite moments, together with the end when Mufasa tell him: "Well done, son, we are one."

    I also agree that whether Scar was alive or dead, he still haunted Simba so much. More than enough to ensure Kiara was protected as future queen and Kion was kept onto his path as leader of the Lion Guard. Also, adding onto that, it's why I think that because of what happened to Kion (resulting of receiving his scar and making him leave the Pridelands until he was healed) that it was also why Simba became overprotective of Kiara; one of his children was badly hurt by Scar's evil, and he didn't want the other to go through the same thing with Zira's plot to avenge Scar. Simba lost someone he cared about so much that he did not want to go through that ever again.

    Another reason Simba's trauma was such a 'scar':. It came from someone he loved and trusted. Most little kids are innocent, like Simba was when talking to his uncle at Pride Rock. He may have half-known Scar was being sarcastic, but he was laughing and listening like any kid with a family bond.
    Scar also had some (ever so small) amount of familial affection to Simba. He never actually laid a hand on him while his nephew was a cub. And his 'plans' to kill him were full of holes. Why didn't Scar end Simba in the gorge where the only witnesses were his co-conspirators?
    Ultimately, Scar's choice was to be king by any means necessary. However, he could have killed Simba or not told him AT ALL about the truth. Maybe he was a sadist or wanted to prove that Simba would have never been strong enough to be King anyway. But how could their prior relationship have played into the trauma?

    It’s a shame this wasn’t touched upon much in TLK2, though it probably was more so in TLG, on top of everything Simba suffered, the realization that his Uncle Scar, a member of the family whom he loved and trusted just as much as his own mother and father was the cause of everything, must’ve not only crushed Simba, but also made it extremely difficult to trust anyone, because his own flesh and blood turned out to be the villain! I know the point of this video is to cover the canonical events of the Lion King franchise, but I wanted to mention Kingdom Hearts' take on this idea of Scar haunting Simba. In KH2 it's shown how after becoming king, Simba doubts his ability to be a worthy successor to his father. This doubt caused his Pride to have little faith in him, he was considered a joke by the hyenas, and all of Simba's negative emotions manifested into ghostly Scar omens throughout the land. These omens would taunt Simba, and further drag him down into dispair. But thanks to the help of his friends, Simba is able to overcome his fears, and defeat the Scar omens. Thus earning the respect of his Pride. All in all, it's cool to see another form of media take an interesting approach to this concept!

    I completely agree with this. In the last video everyone was talking about the difference between the two movies and what could've been done differently. Having to live with a feeling of guilt because you were led to believe that you killed someone when it wasn't even your fault wouldn't be easy. You can tell in The Lion King 2 that all Simba was really after was finding a way for things to be safe and trying to find a way to take on this role while still being haunted by Scar. Something that I think made a difference was the fact that Kiara was able to help him see what he was doing and ultimately helped make some things clearer. It's clear that one of his biggest fears was having the same fate as his father and his uncle.

    • @Elysia63
      @Elysia63 3 роки тому +1

      What about this: What if Simba didn't listen to Kiara's warning and truth about what he was actually doing; believing that Kiara was still acting very childlike and he just went doing his own way of ruling and listening to what he wanted to listen to?

    • @clairefranzen5753
      @clairefranzen5753 3 роки тому +3

      @@Elysia63 I think he would've continued to rule in fear. Something we see early on in the movie is how determined he is to teach Kiara. What we see later is just how much he's haunted by his uncle and witnessing his father's death. It's understandable that he'd have trouble trusting anyone loyal to his uncle because of all the pain Scar caused him and who knows what kind of influence he had one those who stayed loyal to him. When the outsiders aren't involved he usually seems fine other than nightmares and being a little overprotective of Kiara. If someone hadn't gotten through to him whether it be Kiara, Nala, or anyone else he probably wouldn't have realized what he was doing. Mufasa was a good ruler and even though he and Scar didn't always agree he didn't make Scar leave. Had he been able to pass on more knowledge to Simba before he was killed then the outcome might've been different from the beginning. It's clear that Simba wanted to be a better ruler than Scar and was trying to find a way to live up to his father's rule because the line " you're not Mufasa" seemed to be something that in a sense woke him up to the reality that he wasn't and wouldn't ever be his father. Even if he still saw Kiara as childlike and refused to listen to what she had to say I think later he would've realized that she spoke the truth. Something that would be scary to think of is if Kiara ran away after not being able to get through to him.

It is hard work and you also have to want to chance. Simba didn't Seem to want to do that to begin with, but being the kind guy he is he end up given Kovu a change thanks to Nala and Kiara.

      @@Rasendebolge I am so sorry that you had to suffer because of this man and your father. I have daddy issues too. My father is like the worst man you can imagine. He did all the things no one should do to their partner or kids. I always try to see a sign of him being guilty but without success so I know how you feel.
      You are pointing something interesting out. Simba himself was too stuck with his trauma so he couldn't overcome his fear. Only with the help with Nala and Kiara. This shows how important it is to have kind hearted people in youe life. They can't heal you alone but they will go steps with you and give you validation while we are at the healing process. Do you have people like them?

    Imagine if Zira had found out that Scar had been resurrected by the Outlanders. With her lionesses under his rule they might have actually conquered the Pride Lands but lucky he was defeated by Kion before they ever found out.

Because I want to know what happened to Eric's parents, if his parents died when Eric was a child, how he met and adopted his loyal dog Max and how many princesses from different kingdoms beyond the "princess of Glowerhaven", Prince Eric met and has turned down on them before meet and falling in love for Princess Ariel, and if Eric had to be married to become monarch of his kingdom!

      yes, I too, until I grew up I was able to realize more how hard was: Simba being a child, Scar blamed him for his father's death and also later exiled him, he was left with nothing: without a home or family... and I do think that it was harsh for a kid's movie, besides, living with guilt is a horrible feeling.

      Well, I like to think that Scar (originally named Taka) suffered something kind of trauma that got him his scar. Because of this, I think he had a back-up plan; to force Simba to witness his father’s death to have him suffer a similar trauma to him, because to Scar, Simba represented the naive, innocent cub he used to be.
      Also, the black and white view around Scar in the Lion Guard frustrates me, because Mufasa says “Scar NEVER cared for anyone else the way you do, Kion,” indicating that Scar was BORN evil. I don’t like this. I don’t think ANYONE was born evil. Also, I think that Scar’s destroying of Pride Rock in Lion Guard is a warped version of events, due to Simba’s PTSD.

    This is definitely the movie that I’ve watched the most times out of any movie ever. When I was really little, I never really looked more into why I loved the movie so much. Now that I’m older, and now that I understand my childhood trauma, I can appreciate it even more than I did before. This is why I was attached to it. Pain, fear, guilt. Being gaslit into thinking that it’s your fault that something horrible happened. Then, just to find out that you were being manipulated? The rage in Simba’s eyes. Family is supposed to be there for you, not abuse and betray you. Unfortunately, I know how Simba feels all too well. This will always and forever be my favorite Disney movie of all time, as well as my favorite animated movie of all time. It’s a masterpiece that symbolizes so much and addresses such heavy topics that it’s impossible to ever call this a bad movie. All in all, I fucking love The Lion King.

    There’s also another thing about Simba and his need for security but Idk if that’s just a theroy or if it’s been confirmed. But if you look at the presentation scenes from the end of the first and the beginning of the second movie, you’ll see those aren’t only completely different scenes but also different cups. The second one‘s obviously Kiara but who’s the first one? And what happened to it? The fandom named him Kopa and there’s two possibilities of what could’ve happened. 1: He left pride rock when he grew up. But Disney already ignored that rule with Scar, Kovu and Nuka. So the second possibility is more probable: He died. Which is one more trauma to add for Simba.

    Can you do a video about a Beauty and the Beast theory if Gaston's reputation was severely damaged to majority of the villagers after the events of Beauty and the Beast? Because in the opening scene of Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas, everyone of the village came to the castle to celebrate Christmas with Belle and Prince Adam, but I think that only LeFou and Gaston's "buddies" do not attend the Christmas party in film due they are the only ones in the village who remained faithful to Gaston and his "legacy".
