A lot of fans of The Lion King give Simba all the credit when it comes to saving the Pride Lands, but few acknowledge the essential role that Nala played in saving their ancestral homeland. If it wasn’t for her decision to leave Pride Rock when all of the other lionesses stayed under Scar’s rule, Simba might have never learned about his Uncle’s tyranny. But have you ever wondered why it took so long for Nala to leave the Pridelands? Well, sometimes it’s hard to leave behind something, or in this case, some PLACE that means a whole lot to you. This means that whatever it was that Scar did to force Nala’s must have been pretty disturbing. Let’s check it out.

you can find the deleted scene where nala enters the cave where scar is and tries to convince him to change his ways and he does say "my have you grown" and sings to her about wanting her to rule by him and she does indeed give him a big smack on the face when he keeps getting closer to her face and refused to listen to her warnings to back off

I’m not sure about this but I’m pretty sure scar trying to find a heir and tried mating with Nala but actually scar has a child with Zira which is where Nuka comes from, But scar doesn’t think Nuka is good enough so he orders zira to go find another lion to mate with which she does but that lion ends up being a female which is vitani so scar orders zira to go kidnap another cub for scar and she does, And that’s how we get kovu.
Even if it was implied that Scar liked Nala, she gave him a paw in the face and ran away. Judging by Nala's character, she would Never let Scar touch her! She's proud. And she was happy with Simba. If Scar could touch her, she would be sad. So this did not happen and she was faithful only to Simba, even though Scar dreamed of her

I never thought of it as Nala leaving the Pride land I thought she was just searching for something to eat since they were basically starving at the Pride land. It makes sense now and if she told Simba that was the reason she left he would’ve have approached Scar a lot more aggressive than he did.

In the original movie, thats the reason she tells Simba. She left the pride land to look for food due to it being too scarce and to look for help.

i just rewatched the films and she said in the original movie she was in search of FOOD... so u are right. that said, she didnt say food to take back home either... so both right lol who knows. its cartoon not worth drama
From what I understand Nala left to look for outside help plus to get away from Scar because he said he needed a queen Nala was the only lioness that was now a young adult & unmated. The other lionesses were either too old or had cubs of their own Nala felt disgusted at the thought of being Scar's queen & mother to his cub so she needed to leave her home asap before Scar found out.
People complained that it would be too dark for a Disney movie.
But if you look at the original version of Pinocchio were he hung himself, it was way worse.
The scene of the Lion King would have explained how she ended in the exact place where the trio were.
And Hunchback of Notre Dame had so many dark scenes

If Scar forcing himself on her was the real reason Nala left the Pridelands, Then it would be understandable both because Scar was being a creep and I have no doubt that Nala would rather live in exhile or even die than be married to a creepy tyrant like Scar. I mean for Nala being married to Scar would've been a fate even worse than death.
Scar wasn’t being a creep. He was being a LION who decided after all these years of being a bachelor that it was time to ‘settle down’ and create a heir for himself. Since we don’t see any other lion cubs in the pride besides Nala and Simba, the only thing left would have been the older lionesses, who are probably past their cub rearing days by now, while he has a fresh, YOUNG and available lioness like Nala he could chose from instead as his future Queen.

@@hollyagate491 He WAS doing it rather forcefully, though, and they ARE presented as sentient/sapient beings.
They should have left the scene in the movie where Scar tries to force Nala to become his queen and the lionesses defend Nala and being threatened by their uprising Nala accepts her banishment rather than submit to Scar. This adds that not only is the balance of predator and prey important but so is respect for the lionesses important to the pride.
while i agree and wish they would release a version with ths scene in, it is a childrens movie and i think the idea of SA might be too adult for children

I actually theorize the reason Nala left was Vitani. Hear me out. Vitani has blue eyes. Other than Nala she is the ONLY lion with blue eyes. And we know blue eyes have to be recessive because Kiara got Simba’s eyes. So for Vitani to have blue both her parents had to carry recessive genes. Scar is the ONLY lion with green eyes so we can assume that too is recessive. We can see that Nuka doesn’t share his green eyes despite being fathered by him. My theory is Scar forced a cub on Nala and Nala, after seeing this little life she was now responsible for couldn’t bear for her new cub to have to grow up in a wasteland. So she left her with the only lioness who was still nursing- Zira. Zira was currently nursing Kovu, the cub Scar had stolen when his heir turned out weak. It would explain why Vitani seems to have particular hatred for Nala. Because Nala allowed her own cub to be outcast as one of Scar’s rather than admit to Simba what happened to her. But it explains as well why Nala was so invested in rehabilitation for Kovu. If it worked maybe she could make a case for her secret daughter who had also been just a cub. I feel like it’s a pretty solid theory
Actually, this made me remember Vitani telling Nala "Where's your pretty daughter Nala?" In a very mocking tone in the sequel movie

A lot of people theorized that too for years. Ngl, I used to think she was related to Nala, and possibly adopted from Nala or someone related to Nala.
When the film became a play, they needed a way to extend its run time and also make up for the fact it was harder to show what had happened to the Pridelands on a stage. That’s why they had the song Shadowlands in it. The Madness of King Scar song also illustrates the fact that Nala was a devastating beauty as lionesses go, hence his lustful advances that forced her to flee the kingdom.
What Scar tried to do was so creepy, and yet it doesn't make sense as he had Zira who you see in the sequel.
In my head cannon I like to think Zira chased Nala out of the pride lands to prevent any competition for Scar.
And Scar gave Zira that notch in her ear for doing such a thing behind his back.
Nice head canon! :D Makes sense, I could totally see Zira either overhearing Scar talking to Nala about becoming a Queen or hearing it from another lioness. Then becoming UNHINGED and doing whatever she could to have Scar all to herself.
After chasing away Nala, Zira would either be caught outright by Scar or Scar was informed by a spying lioness or hyena.
To add onto this further.. If Kovu's father isn't Scar, and Zira isn't Kovu's mother.. I could see Scar "punishing" Zira by refusing to mate with her after she chased away Nala. And mating with another lioness behind Zira's back, only to leave Kovu to Zira to raise. Maybe Kovu's biomom died in childbirth or a tragic "accident". (Probably caused by Zira, let's be real)

I like to think she was given the notch for allowing Nala to escape, but then I also have a headcannon that Zira only raised Vitani and she’s actually Nala’s cub by Scar. Given to Zira by Nala so that Nala could escape because Zira was just finishing up nursing Nuka
I wanna hear the story that wasn't even put on TV. I guess Kiara had an older brother that died days after Kiara was born. I guess because the mother from the other Pride they were enemies with, killed her brother. Ironic that she married the lion that was the son of the lioness that killed him. I can't remember his name but somewhere else heard the story.

Speaking of creepy villain songs from disney the worst is by far the intro song to the original pete's dragon. It's not very often disney goes off on a detailed tangent about binding torturing and potentially killing a 10 year old kid.

Don't get me wrong, Spirit is an alright song but it is sad that they didn't use shadowlands in the Lion King remake. And it's not like they couldn't use a song from the Broadway musical in the movie, another song from the Broadway musical Lion King is He Lives in You which was later used as the opening song of Lion King 2 Simba's Pride.
I seen the Broadway show of the lion king years ago and still remember it very well. Scar tries to make her his mate and she’s not going for it. So she ignores his advances and she goes to the other lionesses and tells them she’s leaving to try and find someone , anyone who could come back and help them from scars reign. (She didn’t expect to see Simba , because she already expected Simba to be dead) , after this moment , in the Broadway show, she and the ensemble cast (the other lionesses ) performs “Shadowlands”…. Which is the main theme song to the Lion King when you hear its instrumental and beat you should recognise it. It’s played throughout the Disney animated movie version. But the song in lyric and that Broadway act was not put into the movie.
Fun fact, in the Broadway lion king , there are a couple songs that were scrapped out of the Disney lion king 1 animation . But it was used in Lion king 2 😊
I saw heather headley when she was nala and shadowland has been my favorite song ever since. My mom even bought the soundtrack and we would listen to it after church ❤

In the Broadway musical it also shows that Nala is Mufasa's biological daughter. She and Simba are half blood siblings. They have same father, but different mothers. And since she's Mufasa's daughter, that also means that she's Scar's niece. There's a scene in the musical that hints Scar needs a 'queen to rule by his side'. She promptly rejects him.

In the lion guard I believe rafiki talks about nala’s father referring to him as kions other grandfather

I always thougut she left to go hunting. With the other animals moving further out to find food the lions would have further to travel so they can hunt.
Why Nala? Why not go after one of the older lionesses?
Because Nala was picked as the betrothed to the prince. That would have likely been because she was the strongest or best bred of her generation.
1. Nala was young. To Scar he needed a young lioness to have his cubs.
In the 2019 remake Scar did go after Sarabi. He wanted Sarabi to love an adore him like she did with Mufasa.
But Nala in a realistic way would make sense for Scar since she was young and healthy.
Plus I think theres that trope of the villain going after the protagonist love interest that we see in media

@@moondivine2288 It’s possible he was trying to groom Nala. None of the other lionesses would've been interested in him, but maybe he thought that if he groomed her, she would be interested back.
Simba was chased to the thorns and pumba helped him. He adapted to survive on bugs. Then he was caught in the roots when Nala was after him and Simba protected him. He swung out and went swimming when she avoided it. Then the karate monkey said his father was alive so he followed to check.
this is why I love the Broadway version of the lion king it just makes scar more evil and why nala left ❤
Are there seriously people who still think Simba and Nala are related? Didn’t Lion Guard already confirm that they aren’t. At this point it feels like you people want them to be related.
here is a question did simba expand the pride land when he became king? think about it he lived with timon and pumba for few years did that part become part of the pride lands
I think it was neccessary for time to pass, so simba could clear his head. Wish we saw him in decendents 1-3.
It was necessary for the time to pass so simba can grow up. He wouldn't have been able to defeat scar as a cub.
I just want to point out that a lion pride the only the only one who would be mating with the females is the King Mufasa, so technically that adds a whole different level of creepy to Simba and Nala's relationship!
Im nearly 40 yrs old, saw this in the theatre when it came out...when it showed blood lol...and NEVER realized the hyenas were meant to represent greed. I mean...it makes sense now that i think about it, but to me, i always thought the problem was there was too many hyenas in one spot...therefore not enough food. A more "more mouths than you can feed" sort of situation. Tbf, they show a ton of hyenas, like hundreds, so it does appear more to be an issue with too many to feed.
So, scar tried to get it on with Nala, and she had to run away... heh.

5:40 in the real version of 2019 Scar wanted Sarabi for his Queen. When she refused, Scar said, the hynianas would from now on eat before the lions.
This is why I prefer Scar wanting Sarabi in the live action remake because it’s less inappropriate than Scar wanting Nala

Not so fun fact: Disney actually released a reanimated deleted scene of Scar singing a song to Nala about something like being his queen. It was as disturbing as finding out that a goddess in Greek mythology married her uncle.
I wish they could’ve had Zira in Lion king 1 or lion guard where they can have meet.
My parents went to see the musical when it came to Houston. There is a big part of the story revolving over Scar and his infatuation of Nala. He wanted her to be his queen. They nixed that plotline in the movie because it was considered to mature for children.
Also Scar never said he is the heir to the throne. He said it’s with a heavy heart that he takes over as king.
The movie edited version. Made it that food had gotten too scarce to find near the Prideland. So lionesses had to go further out to hunt. That's how they swapped the reason for Nala finding Simba.
In the video you say Simba was gone for a short time when in fact he was gone for a long time as he left as a cub and returned as a young adult

One thing I was always confused about is why Scar was still around in the first place. To my understanding lion prides only have one adult male. Which also makes me wonder who Nala's father is.
Actually prides depending on their size can have up to 3-4 males. The males are usually always brothers, rare occassions just random males joined together as a stronger force. One male is always the primary leader meaning he gets first rights to all the females but on occassions the lesser males may as well if the primary is not around or resting elsewhere.

He’s the dominate of the males and the females mate with the strongest male.
The females run the pride,prides are matriarchal not patriarchal. Human men always assumed the males were the leaders because they mated. That’s an incredible inaccuracy based on human ego.
When you think about it theres only two male lions in the pride lands muphasa and scar which means nala must be the daughter of one of them so shes either simbas sister or cousin 🤔🤪

If you know how lions work irl, often females will leave the pride temporarily to get pregnant by a male to have him welcomed back to the pride, or to bring a new male. I'm not an expert and only have a video I saw where this actually did occur but it was with 2 males.
