Imagine being a fully armored Dremora Lord and some mortal mage summons you only to deliver a letter. "Begone, mortal" is a modest response tbh.

I'll always remember this quest for one of the vocal bloopers from one of the female NPC voice actors in the unpatched game. Where there was a line left in where they comment about how different places were hit at the same night, but then mutters "oh wait, let me do that one again" then repeats the line.
Yeah I remember that too, I also remember there being a blooper voice line from one of the female NPC’s in the tiber septim hotel. She is like “wait let me do that one again” lmfao
I recall that attacking a horse in Oblivion was mistakenly coded as "stealing," rather than its' own thing, so if you were caught attacking your own horse, it was counted as a crime against yourself and you would be kicked out of all your guilds for "stealing" from a fellow guild member.

This quest also presents a good opportunity to begin the Dark Brotherhood questline and assassinate the pirate captain in the Waterfront. When you enter the ship and kill the captain, the hostile pirates will be cut down by all of the guards around when you leave.
I remember that i once started the Mages Guild questline a bit late on my first time playing Oblivion (I had maxed out Armorer thanks to me grinding armor skills on the goblin caves) and when i got to that quest i had the bright idea to over-repair that staff and the game won't let me return it and my last savefile was like 1 hour before i started the quest.
Good times.
Yeah it would've been so helpful if oblvion had it so that it saved everytime you entered, many times I would forget and either get killed by a stupid clannfear or remember to save while fighting
I feel like this quest was vestigial from Morrowind where it was possible to make enemies with other guilds if you didn't take quests selectively.
I was thinking that. Was there something abandoned?
@@DarkLOREDash it's very possible, these are very large games with long production times.
And the only game where you can make nearly every NPC non hostile for them to love your character.
@@killertruth186 it is handy to have a fortify personality 100 + fortify mercantile 100 + charm 100 for one second. Bypassed the boredom pie minigame, sell for good prices, plus guard will let you get away with most crimes

In all seriousness, I actually triggered the Ontus Vanin glitch many moons ago, which prompted guards to fight one another shortly afterwards. A downed guard flew to his feet (literally) and arrested me.

In a world where the emperor was slain by a group of devil worshippers, the barrier between the overworld and hell is paper thin and portals randomly open to spew out Dremora hell spawns, suddenly, in the dead of night, a random Daedra approaches a guard captain from behind and says: "Begone... mortal..."
The Captain's Interpretation: Ah! It's my political supporters casually informing me that I need to get back to my post guarding the mages guild. Also the arch mage wants his hot chocolate stirred, not shaken this time...
I'm just saying, my reaction would have been a bit more... reflex based...
I also finished the mages guild before starting the thief’s guild on my first playthrough so it was trippy
And my opinion, the Breton race is probably the most powerful race you get 50+ extra Magica plus you have 50% magic resistance, which makes it easy to bring that up to 100

It is much easier to steal the ice staff as the arch mage than before completing the questline. But I am sure it would be changed in the remaster/remake.
Ironic how we don't see a single battlemage in the waterfront during this quest.

Ive done this quest both being in the mages guild and not being in it, I don't remember the patch though lol anyway love watching your Oblivion videos Dark Lore Dash even though I've done these quests a bunch of times lol would you be interested in doing a video on The Order Of Virtuous Blood? As an aside, arch, in this instance, is arc or ark - not like church or chicken. Its etymology is Greek in origin “from Latinized form of Greek arkh-, arkhi- "first, chief, primeval," combining form of arkhos "a chief, leader, commander,".

As soon as this video started I thought: "is there some kind of bug that lets you pickpocket yourself?" But after I've heard *spoiler* guild and *spoiler* stuff it all clicked. I remember staring on Methredhel and saying "are you serious?.."
I remember doing this before, it was quite funny.
I did the mages guild first then the thieves guild on my first playthrough of Oblivion. I found it very funny that they had me stealing from myself

The quest is to steal from the arch mage at the university. If you’ve already completed the mage’s guild quest line, you become the arch mage. So if you get this quest after doing that whole quest line, you are told to steal your own stuff.
It can happen in real life too. It's called embezzlement.
Can't you fence non-stolen items as well?
So the obvious reason the guild wants to nick all the stuff is to pressure the rich and the mages in the quarter to put pressure on the watch.
From a pure common sense perspective, if the arch mage would join the guild, or more likely, someone attuned to magic joins and along the way happens to become the arch mage, the entire theft becomes unnecessary.
Instead of "steal form the arch mage and leave this letter that puts the fault on the guard so that they do something about that" it would be "hey, you've recently became arch mage, right? Use that position to tell the guards they need to watch elsewhere, since your staff was stolen" followed by a wink.

I didn’t like the magic system on oblivion that much spells and spell creation were cool, but we only had limited Magica. They only went up to 200 and just a base character of a race is have a bonus but not anything that would make a big difference that’s why a lot of people resort to glitches, including myself.
You had to think outside the box making spells and include things like fortify Magicka and fortify intelligence, which could even be combined with attack spell effects to have an infinite castable spell as it just renews and insta recharges your magic infinitely.
You needed to think of more than just fireball, to be a good mage. If you did to could make Dr. Manhattan
Yeah, I use that didn’t like the magic system to begin with. It’s too weak people should get more than just 200 points of magic. There are a lot of spills on that game that can’t be casted because of that take, for instance, the fingers of the mountain that spell cost like 700 Magica and even if your destruction is 100 that’s pretty much would it cost it’s crazy they probably expected you to wear full Magica gear but I’ve notice there’s a lot of bugs and glitches that didn’t get fixed that been on the game for years. I think Bethesda leaves those there deliberately and honestly I kind a like that because they’re not trying to dictate how people play games my opinion the only glitches that should be fixed are the ones that prevent progression into the game like quest bugs, or not being able to get a certain item

Methredhel annoys me so much- she is one of a few characters i want to kill grrrr amazing how you beat her to Amantius Allectus's diary and she isn't admitted into the guild, yet when Lex invades the waterfront she is making plans and giving YOU orders😡😡😡so frustrating

The funny thing is, this bug would only be uncovered by power gamers. If you tried a more immersive experience, you would likely only join one guild, progress slowly while you go through the main quest, then not join another guild. Bethesda games reward roleplaying with fewer glitches and bugs.
