If you are in the mages guild, there is an extra dialogue with ancotar which was overlooked in this video where you can express your interest in the spell when he says "nevermind. I don't mean to bore you."
There's an argonian shepherd I believe that is affected too along with his flock of sheep and rams. He leaves the town and walks along the roads with his flock that you can run into. So I always make sure he and the flock is home before using the scroll 😅
I'm glad to see you are still giving Oblivion some love. For all Skyrim's changes, it is quests like this that really show what we lost from Oblivion and Morrowind. Failing as a choice, unexpected optional pathways, the feeling of real permanent impact on the game world we had and gradually lost from one game to the next. Like, with Morrowind I tried genocide to see how long I could go and how far I could get just because. Or the secret thief-assassin that burns all his bridges behind him in hopes of becoming the new sole "God" of Morrowind.
@@FifinatorKlon I would take anything said about Starfield, good or bad, with a grain of salt. My recommendation is to play it for yourself with an open mind and form your own opinion. In my opinion It has some areas that could stand improvement on, but is largely a good game if given half a chance. You may have a different opinion on it but you’re welcome to it.
@FifinatorKlon he barely elaborated. Play the game and you'll see the quests in starfield suck if you compare them to oblivion, morrowwind, hell I had more fun playing the trash daggerfall quests because atleast I had a fun giant world.
@@johnnyboygriffin5764Oh, I have. Hell, I'm old, I played Morrowind when it released. I played Oblivion for literal years (and will again no doubt), and there have been tradeoffs each step of the way. Gaming was still much more niche and for geeks and nerds, so those games were tailored to geeks and nerd. Skyrim has great breadth, it's wide and beautiful and you can get enjoy the long journey of individual quests without many deep quest chains (the way they trimmed down the civil war is the obvious but prime example), but the older games have much more depth to them with the interweaving questlines. Both approaches have their benefits and drawbacks. I'd like Bethesda to pull back some and find a middle ground, but money talks and it's hard to ignore Skyrim's numbers. BUT, if they are paying attention and seeing how Skyrim has led people to Morrowind and Oblivion all these years later, perhaps they are keeping a wider eye on things. I guess we'll see if we can make it to 2037.

Hard to imagine failing this quest in any way but on purpose, so it's good to see they still fleshed out the failing branch of the quest line. As janky as Oblivion can be, they sure did put a lot of thought and detail into a LOT of their quests.
I had no idea while doing this quest how hilarious screwing up would be lol. While doing I was worried something horrible would happened if I messed up!
If you ever get bored on an Evil Playthrough...piss off an entire Town's worth of Guards and have them chase you into an Oblivion Gate. Its pretty hilarious watching from the side as Daedra destroy them.

I think Ancotar got into my Conan exiles game somehow. I nearly got merked by an invisible boss elephant twice now. And the rest of the elephants and some rhinos are invisible too, I assumed it was a bug but now I'm not so convinced...
Zero Visibility is usually the first thing I do for each of my characters after finishing the tutorial. Free storage and bed right at the start of the game.

Technically, considering the spell gives you -50 luck, maybe it dooms the villagers by smacking them all with -50 luck too...

In all the years I played this game, it never occurred to me that this quest could be screwed up quite this badly!
To be fair, you almost have to fail it on purpose. It's not likely you'll fail it accidentally.

Have you heard of the elves?
It's insane that I've been playing this game every year since 2006 and still haven't seen this quest before.
I actually missed it for the longest time.
It was the first one I stumbled upon after leaving the sewers, I still dont know how I missed the bridge leading to the imperial city.
Funny, back in 2006 this was the very first quest I ever did
There's quite of few of em. I'm always searching for them. Talking to every NPC and talking to them about anything I can.
Glad to see I'm not the only one who never knew about this.
These are always my first quests. Getting the permanent storage at the inn in the early game is too good to pass up
Why do you need it? I just put my crap in the crate at vilverin until I can afford the house in the waterfront district.
I also do that for the same reason. Plus a nice place where I can sleep for free.
